• Extract known pattern substring from NSString (without regex)

- by d11wtq
I'm really tempted to drop RegexKit (or my own libpcre wrapper) into my project in order to do this, but before I do that I want to know how Cocoa developers manage to do half of this basic stuff without really convoluted code or without linking with RegexKit or another regular expression library. I find it gobsmacking that Cocoa does not include any regular expression matching features. I've so accustomed to using regular expressions for all kinds of things that I'm lost without them. I can do what I need without them, but the code would be rather convoluted. So, Cocoa devs, I ask you, what's the "Cocoa way" to do this... The problem is an everyday problem in programming as far as I'm concerned. Cocoa must have ways of doing this with the built-in features. Note that the position of the elements I want to match changes, and sometimes "quotes" are present. Whitespace is variable. Take the following strings: Content-Type: application/xml; charset=utf-8 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Type: text/plain; name="example.txt"; charset=utf-8 From all of these strings, how would you go about determining the mime type (e.g. text/plain) and the charset (e.g. utf-8) using just the built-in Cocoa classes? I'd end up performing a series of -rangeOfString: and substring calls, with conditional checks to deal with the optional quotes etc. Is there a way to do this with NSScanner? The NSScanner class seems to have a pretty naive API to me. Something like C's sscanf() that works for NSString objects would be an ideal fit. Most of my string parsing needs are simple such as this example so maybe regular expressions, while I'm accustomed to them, are overkill?

• Emacs Lisp: how to set encoding for call-process

- by RamyenHead
I thought I knew how to set coding-system (or encoding): use process-coding-system-alist. Apparently, it's not working. ;; -*- coding: utf-8 -*- (require 'cl) (let ((process-coding-system-alist '("cygwin/bin/bash" . (utf-8-dos . utf-8-unix)))) (setq my-words (list "Lilo" "?_?" "_?" "?_" "?" "Stitch") my-cygwin-bash "C:/cygwin/bin/bash.exe" my-outbuf (get-buffer-create "*my cygwin bash echo test*") ) (with-current-buffer my-outbuf (goto-char (point-max)) (loop for word in my-words do (insert (concat "echo " word "\n")) (call-process my-cygwin-bash nil my-outbuf nil "-c" (concat "echo " word))) ) (display-buffer my-outbuf) ) Running the above code, the output is this: echo Lilo Lilo echo ?_? /usr/bin/bash: -c: line 0: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `"' /usr/bin/bash: -c: line 1: syntax error: unexpected end of file echo _? /usr/bin/bash: -c: line 0: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `"' /usr/bin/bash: -c: line 1: syntax error: unexpected end of file echo ?_ /usr/bin/bash: $'echo \346\267\205?': command not found echo ? /usr/bin/bash: -c: line 0: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `"' /usr/bin/bash: -c: line 1: syntax error: unexpected end of file echo Stitch Stitch Anything sent to cygwin in unicode is failing (MS Windows, Korean).

• How do I remove accents from characters in a PHP string?

- by georgebrock
I'm attempting to remove accents from characters in PHP string as the first step to making the string usable in a URL. I'm using the following code: $input = "Fóø Bår"; setlocale(LC_ALL, "en_US.utf8"); $output = iconv("utf-8", "ascii//TRANSLIT", $input); print($output); The output I would expect would be something like this: F'oo Bar However, instead of the accented characters being transliterated they are replaced with question marks: F?? B?r Everything I can find online indicates that setting the locale will fix this problem, however I'm already doing this. I've already checked the following details: The locale I am setting is supported by the server (included in the list produced by locale -a) The source and target encodings (UTF-8 and ASCII) are supported by the server's version of iconv (included in the list produced by iconv -l) The input string is UTF-8 encoded (verified using PHP's mb_check_encoding function, as suggested in the answer by mercator) The call to setlocale is successful (it returns 'en_US.utf8' rather than FALSE) The cause of the problem: The server is using the wrong implementation of iconv. It has the glibc version instead of the required libiconv version. Note that the iconv function on some systems may not work as you expect. In such case, it'd be a good idea to install the GNU libiconv library. It will most likely end up with more consistent results. – PHP manual's introduction to iconv Details about the iconv implementation that is used by PHP are included in the output of the phpinfo function. (I'm not able to re-compile PHP with the correct iconv library on the server I'm working with for this project so the answer I've accepted below is the one that was most useful for removing accents without iconv support.)

• Getting a binary file from resource in C#

- by Jesse Knott
Hello, I am having a bit of a problem, I am trying to get a PDF as a resource in my application. At this point I have a fillable PDF that I have been able to store as a file next to the binary, but now I am trying to embed the PDF as a resource in the binary. byte[] buffer; try { s = typeof(BattleTracker).Assembly.GetManifestResourceStream("libReports.Resources.DAForm1594.pdf"); buffer = new byte[s.Length]; int read = 0; do { read = s.Read(buffer, read, 32768); } while (read > 0); } catch (Exception e) { throw new Exception("Error: could not import report:", e); } // read existing PDF document PdfReader r = new PdfReader( // optimize memory usage buffer, null ); Every time I run the code I get an error saying "Rebuild trailer not found. Original Error: PDF startxref not found" When I was just opening the file via a path to the static file in my directory it worked fine. I have tried using different encodings UTF-8, UTF-32, UTF-7, ASCII, etc etc.... As a side note I had the same problem with getting a Powerpoint file as a resource, I was finally able to fix that problem by converting the Powerpoint to xml and using that. I have considered doing the same for the PDF but I am referencing elements by field name which does not seem to work with XML PDFs. Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks in advance!

• XML validation error when using multiple schema files/namespaces

- by user129609
Hi, I've been reading a ton about xml and learning a lot but I am stuck on one error. I have a schema defined in multiple files and I can't get it to work. Here is an example ================================== libraryBooks.xsd <xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns="urn:MyNamespace" targetNamespace="urn:MyNamespace" elementFormDefault="qualified" > <xsd:element name="libraryBooks" type="libraryBooksType"/> <xsd:complexType name="libraryBooksType"> <xsd:sequence> <xsd:any minOccurs="0"/> </xsd:sequence> <xsd:attribute name="name" type="xsd:string"/> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:schema> ================================== book.xsd <xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns="urn:MyNamespace2" targetNamespace="urn:MyNamespace2" elementFormDefault="qualified" > <xsd:element name="book" type="booksType"/> <xsd:complexType name="bookType"> <xsd:attribute name="title" type="xsd:string"/> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:schema> ================================== myXml.xml <libraryBooks xmlns="urn:MyNamespace" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="urn:MyNamespace file:///C:/libraryBooks.xsd" name="CentralLibrary"> <mn2:book xmlns:mn2="file:///C:/book.xsd" title="How to make xml work the way I want"> </mn2:book> </libraryBooks> So the error I get would be "The 'file:///C:/book.xsd:book' element is not found". Any ideas? I'm almost certain it is something simple

• XMLBeans - xsi:type stripped using Axis2 and Tomcat?

- by Matthew Gamble
I’m new to XMLBeans and have been trying to use it to create an XML document as part of an axis2 web service. When I run my code as a standard Java application or as a standard servlet, the XML is correctly generated: <c:BroadsoftDocument protocol="OCI" xmlns:c="C"> <sessionId>000000001</sessionId> <command xsi:type="AuthenticationRequest" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <userId>admin</userId></command> </c:BroadsoftDocument> However, when the exact same code is run under Axis2 & Tomcat in a servlet I get: <c:BroadsoftDocument protocol="OCI" xmlns:c="C"> <sessionId>000000001</sessionId> <command> <userId>admin</userId></command> </c:BroadsoftDocument> This of course isn’t valid – the xsi:type of the “command” element is stripped when the code is run under Tomcat. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I could be doing wrong that would cause this type of issue only when running under Axis2? At first I thought it was a Tomcat issue, but after creating a generic servlet and running the exact same code I don't have any issues. I've tried playing with the XMLOptions for XMLBeans, but couldn't seem to resolve the problem. The options I'm currently using are: xmlOptions = new XmlOptions(); xmlOptions.setCharacterEncoding("UTF-8"); xmlOptions.setUseDefaultNamespace(); xmlOptions.setSaveAggressiveNamespaces(); xmlOptions.setSavePrettyPrint();

Unfortunatelly all webmail (gmail, webmail.mydomain.org, emailaddress.domain.xx) use different coding. How can i force to use UTF-8 coding to show my mail exactly same on all mailbox? I try to convert the mail header width mb_convert_encoding(), but with no luck. Thank you.

• Inconsistent get_class_methods vs method_exists when using UTF8 characters in PHP code

- by coma
I have this class in a UTF-8 encoded file called EnUTF8.Class.php: class EnUTF8 { public function ñññ() { return 'ñññ()'; } } and in another UTF-8 encoded file: require_once('EnUTF8.Class.php'); require_once('OneBuggy.Class.php'); $utf8 = new EnUTF8(); //$buggy = new OneBuggy(); echo (method_exists($utf8, 'ñññ')) ? 'ñññ() exists!' : 'ñññ() does not exist...'; echo "\n\n----------------------------------\n\n" print_r(get_class_methods($utf8)); echo "\n----------------------------------\n\n" echo $utf8->ñññ(); that produces the expected result: ñññ() exists! ---------------------------------- Array ( [0] => ñññ ) ---------------------------------- ñññ() but if... require_once('EnUTF8.Class.php'); require_once('OneBuggy.Class.php'); $utf8 = new EnUTF8(); $buggy = new OneBuggy(); echo (method_exists($utf8, 'ñññ')) ? 'ñññ() exists!' : 'ñññ() does not exist...'; echo "\n\n----------------------------------\n\n" print_r(get_class_methods($utf8)); echo "\n----------------------------------\n\n" echo $utf8->ñññ(); then the weirdness appears!!!: ñññ() does not exist! ---------------------------------- Array ( [0] => ñññ ) ---------------------------------- Fatal error: Call to undefined method EnUTF8::ñññ() in /var/www/test.php on line 16 Well, the thing is that OneBuggy.Class.php is UTF-8 encoded too and shares absolutly nothing with EnUTF8.Class.php so... where is the bug? UPDATED: Well, after a long debugging time I found this in OneBuggy.Class.php constructor: setlocale (LC_ALL, "es_ES@euro", "es_ES", "esp"); so I did... //setlocale (LC_ALL, "es_ES@euro", "es_ES", "esp"); and now it works but why?.

• xml declaration not being omitted from page

- by Mark Schultheiss
I have an XSLT transform I am using to process an XML file, inserting it into the body of my aspx page. Reference the following for background information: background on xml/xslt I have the following in my xml file: <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:msxsl="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:xslt" exclude-result-prefixes="msxsl" xmlns:myCustomStrings="urn:customStrings"> <xsl:output method="xml" version="2.0" media-type="text/html" omit-xml-declaration="yes" indent="yes" />...unrelated stuff left out here Here is the output that is relevent:

My question relates to the output, specifically to the which is getting included in the output anyway. Is the issue related to the custom method I have used? If so, I don't really see the need to include the xml part as the namespace is in the div tag. Is there a way to ensure that this extra stuff gets left out as I asked it to?

• Can't bind string containing @ char with mysqli_stmt_bind_param

- by Tirithen
I have a problem with my database class. I have a method that takes one prepared statement and any number of parameters, binds them to the statement, executes the statement and formats the result into a multidimentional array. Everthing works fine until I try to include an email adress in one of the parameters. The email contains an @ character and that one seems to break everything. When I supply with parameters: $types = "ss" and $parameters = array("[email protected]", "testtest") I get the error: Warning: Parameter 3 to mysqli_stmt_bind_param() expected to be a reference, value given in ...db/Database.class.php on line 63 Here is the method: private function bindAndExecutePreparedStatement(&$statement, $parameters, $types) { if(!empty($parameters)) { call_user_func_array('mysqli_stmt_bind_param', array_merge(array($statement, $types), &$parameters)); /*foreach($parameters as $key => $value) { mysqli_stmt_bind_param($statement, 's', $value); }*/ } $result = array(); $statement->execute() or debugLog("Database error: ".$statement->error); $rows = array(); if($this->stmt_bind_assoc($statement, $row)) { while($statement->fetch()) { $copied_row = array(); foreach($row as $key => $value) { if($value !== null && mb_substr($value, 0, 1, "UTF-8") == NESTED) { // If value has a nested result inside $value = mb_substr($value, 1, mb_strlen($value, "UTF-8") - 1, "UTF-8"); $value = $this->parse_nested_result_value($value); } $copied_row[$ke<y] = $value; } $rows[] = $copied_row; } } // Generate result $result['rows'] = $rows; $result['insert_id'] = $statement->insert_id; $result['affected_rows'] = $statement->affected_rows; $result['error'] = $statement->error; return $result; } I have gotten one suggestion that: the array_merge is casting parameter to string in the merge change it to &$parameters so it remains a reference So I tried that (3rd line of the method), but it did not do any difference. How should I do? Is there a better way to do this without call_user_func_array?

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.domain\.com RewriteRule (.*) http://domain.com/$1 [R=301,L] AddHandler fastcgi-script .fcgi RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^jalka\.domain\.com$ [NC] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*) cgi-bin/fifa2010.fcgi/$1 [QSA,L] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^subdomain\.otherdomain\.eu$ [NC] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*) cgi-bin/django.fcgi/$1 [QSA,L] Notice, that i have also other project set up with same .htaccess and that one is running just fine with more complex urls and views fifa2010.fcgi: #!/usr/local/bin/python # -*- coding: utf-8 -*- import sys, os DOMAIN = "domain.com" APPNAME = "jalka" PREFIX = "/www/apache/domains/www.%s" % (DOMAIN,) # Add a custom Python path. sys.path.insert(0, os.path.join(PREFIX, "htdocs/django/Django-1.2.1")) sys.path.insert(0, os.path.join(PREFIX, "htdocs")) sys.path.insert(0, os.path.join(PREFIX, "htdocs/jalka")) # Switch to the directory of your project. • How do I process multipart http responses in Ruby Net:HTTP?

- by seal-7
There is so much information out there on how to generate multipart responses or do multipart file uploads. I can't seem to find any information on how to process a multipart http response. Here is some IRB output from a multipart http response I am working with. >> response.http.content_type => "multipart/related" >> response.http.body[0..2048] => "\r\n------=_Part_3_806633756.1271797659309\r\nContent-Type: text/xml; charset=UTF-8\r\nContent-Transfer-Encoding: binary\r\nContent-Id: <A0FCC4333C6D0FCA346B97FAB6B61818>\r\n\r\n<soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv="http://www.w3.org/2003/05/soap-envelope" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"><soapenv:Body><ns1:runReportResponse soapenv:encodingStyle="http://www.w3.org/2003/05/soap-encoding" xmlns:ns1="http://192.168.1.200:8080/jasperserver/services/repository"><ns2:result xmlns:ns2="http://www.w3.org/2003/05/soap-rpc">runReportReturn</ns2:result><runReportReturn xsi:type="xsd:string"><?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>\n<operationResult version="2.0.1">\n\t<returnCode><![CDATA[0]]></returnCode>\n</operationResult>\n</runReportReturn></ns1:runReportResponse></soapenv:Body></soapenv:Envelope>\r\n------=_Part_3_806633756.1271797659309\r\nContent-Type: application/pdf\r\nContent-Transfer-Encoding: binary\r\nContent-Id: <report>\r\n\r\n%PDF-1.4\n%\342\343\317\323\n3 0 obj

• Issue encondig java->xls

- by Xerg
This is not a pure java question and can also be related to HTML I've written a java servlet that queries a database table and shows the result as a html table. The user can also ask to receive the result as an Excel sheet. Im creating the Excel sheet by printing the same html table, but with the content-type of "application/vnd.ms-excel". The Excel file is created fine. The problem is that the tables may contain non-english data so I want to use a UTF-8 encoding. PrintWriter out = response.getWriter(); response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel:ISO-8859-1"); //response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel:UTF-8"); response.setHeader("cache-control", "no-cache"); response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=file.xls"); out.print(src); out.flush(); The non-english characters appear as garbage (áéíóú) Also I tried converting to bytes from String byte[] arrByte = src.getBytes("ISO-8859-1"); String result = new String(arrByte, "UTF-8"); But I Still getting garbage, What can I do?. Thanks

• production vs dev server content-disposition filename encoding

- by rgripper
I am using asp.net mvc3, download file in the same browser (Chrome 22). Here is the controller code: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Uploadfile(HttpPostedFileBase file)//HttpPostedFileBase file, string excelSumInfoId) { ... return File( result.Output, "application/vnd.ms-excel", String.Format("{0}_{1:yyyy.MM.dd-HH.mm.ss}.xls", "????????????", DateTime.Now)); } On my dev machine I download a programmatically created file with the correct name "????????????_2012.10.18-13.36.06.xls". Response: Content-Disposition:attachment; filename*=UTF-8''%D0%A1%D1%83%D0%BC%D0%BC%D0%B8%D1%80%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%B5_2012.10.18-13.36.06.xls Content-Length:203776 Content-Type:application/vnd.ms-excel Date:Thu, 18 Oct 2012 09:36:06 GMT Server:ASP.NET Development Server/10.0.0.0 X-AspNet-Version:4.0.30319 X-AspNetMvc-Version:3.0 And from production server I download a file with the name of the controller's action + correct extension "Uploadfile.xls", which is wrong. Response: Content-Disposition:attachment; filename="=?utf-8?B?0KHRg9C80LzQuNGA0L7QstCw0L3QuNC1XzIwMTIuMTAuMTgtMTMuMzYu?=%0d%0a =?utf-8?B?NTUueGxz?=" Content-Length:203776 Content-Type:application/vnd.ms-excel Date:Thu, 18 Oct 2012 09:36:55 GMT Server:Microsoft-IIS/7.5 X-AspNet-Version:4.0.30319 X-AspNetMvc-Version:3.0 X-Powered-By:ASP.NET Web.config files are the same on both machines. Why does filename gets encoded differently for the same browser? Are there any kinds of default settings in web.config that are different on machines that I am missing?

• IIS6 compressing static files, but not JSON requests

- by user500038
I have IIS6 compression setup, and static content is being compressed correctly as per Coding Horror. Example of a static file: Response Headers Content-Length 55513 Content-Type application/x-javascript Content-Encoding gzip Last-Modified Mon, 20 Dec 2010 15:31:58 GMT Accept-Ranges bytes Vary Accept-Encoding Server Microsoft-IIS/6.0 X-Powered-By ASP.NET Date Wed, 29 Dec 2010 16:37:23 GMT Request Headers Accept */* Accept-Language en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding gzip,deflate Accept-Charset ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive 115 Connection keep-alive As you can see, the response is correctly compressed. However with a JSON call you'll see the request with the gzip parameter correctly set: Accept application/json, text/javascript, */*; q=0.01 Accept-Language en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding gzip,deflate Accept-Charset ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive 115 Connection keep-alive X-Requested-With XMLHttpRequest Then for the response: Cache-Control private Content-Length 6811 Content-Type application/json; charset=utf-8 Server Microsoft-IIS/6.0 X-Powered-By ASP.NET X-AspNet-Version 2.0.50727 X-AspNetMvc-Version 2.0 No gzip! I found this article by Rick Stahl, which outlines how to compress in your code, but I'd like IIS to handle this. Is this possible with IIS6?

• Space-saving character encoding for japanese?

- by Constantin
In my opinion a common problem: character encoding in combination with a bitmap-font. Most multi-language encodings have an huge space between different character types and even a lot of unused code points there. So if I want to use them I waste a lot of memory (not only for saving multi-byte text - i mean specially for spaces in my bitmap-font) - and VRAM is mostly really valuable... So the only reasonable thing seems to be: Using an custom mapping on my texture for i.e. UTF-8 characters (so that no space is waste). BUT: This effort seems to be same with use an own proprietary character encoding (so also own order of characters in my texture). In my specially case I got texture space for 4096 different characters and need characters to display latin languages as well as japanese (its a mess with utf-8 that only support generall cjk codepages). Had somebody ever a similiar problem (I really wonder, if not)? If theres already any approach? Edit: The same Problem is described here http://www.tonypottier.info/Unicode_And_Japanese_Kanji/ but it doesnt provide an real solution how to save these bitmapfont mappings to utf-8 space efficent. So any further help is welcome!

• Strange javascript decoding behavior in IE

- by Yoni
I run the following html snippet in IE8 and IE7 with non-English characters (we tried both Hebrew and Chinese), and the second link never works properly. The displayed text in the alert box is mangled. This occurs in IE8 and IE7, but not in firefox. It is not dependent on Windows's regional settings. Here is the html snippet (html header and footer omitted for brevity, the content-type is "text/html; charset=utf-8", and so is the response header):
link with English and Hebrew text same text, url encoded
Here is the alert box that pops up when clicking the second link: I know that the string for "????" is encoded as 8 bytes in utf-8, thus there are 8 %NN items, and there are also 8 weird characters in the alert box. The problem is, how can I make IE recognize that this is utf-8 encoding text, like firefox does?

• Java to C# code converter

- by acadia
Hello, Are there any converters available that converts Java code to C#? I need to convert the below code into C# String token = new String(""); URL url1 =new URL( "http", domain, Integer.valueOf(portnum), "/Workplace/setCredentials?op=getUserToken&userId="+username+"&password="+password +"&verify=true"); URLConnection conn1=url1.openConnection(); ((HttpURLConnection)conn1).setRequestMethod("POST"); InputStream contentFileUrlStream = conn1.getInputStream(); BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(contentFileUrlStream)); token=br.readLine(); String encodedAPIToken = URLEncoder.encode(token); String doubleEncodedAPIToken ="ut=" + encodedAPIToken;//.substring(0, encodedAPIToken.length()-1); //String doubleEncodedAPIToken ="ut=" + URLEncoder.encode(encodedAPIToken); //String userToken = "ut=" + URLEncoder.encode(token, "UTF-8"); //URLEncoder.encode(token); String vsId = "vsId=" + URLEncoder.encode(docId.substring(5, docId.length()), "UTF-8"); url="http://" + domain + ":" + portnum + "/Workplace/getContent?objectStoreName=RMROS&objectType=document&" + vsId + "&" +doubleEncodedAPIToken; String vsId = "vsId=" + URLEncoder.encode(docId.substring(5, docId.length()), "UTF-8"); url="http://" + domain + ":" + portnum + "/Workplace/getContent?objectStoreName=RMROS&objectType=document&" + vsId + "&" +doubleEncodedAPIToken; Thanks in advance

• Windows cmd encoding change causes Python crash.

- by Alex
First I chage Windows CMD encoding to utf-8 and run Python interpreter: chcp 65001 python Then I try to print a unicode sting inside it and when i do this Python crashes in a peculiar way (I just get a cmd prompt in the same window). >>> import sys >>> print u'ëèæîð'.encode(sys.stdin.encoding) Any ideas why it happens and how to make it work? UPD: sys.stdin.encoding returns 'cp65001' UPD2: It just came to me that the issue might be connected with the fact that utf-8 uses multi-byte character set (kcwu made a good point on that). I tried running the whole example with 'windows-1250' and got 'ëeaî?'. Windows-1250 uses single-character set so it worked for those characters it understands. However I still have no idea how to make 'utf-8' work here. UPD3: Oh, I found out it is a known Python bug. I guess what happens is that Python copies the cmd encoding as 'cp65001 to sys.stdin.encoding and tries to apply it to all the input. Since it fails to understand 'cp65001' it crushes on any input that contains non-ascii characters.

• PHP webservice for c# application

- by user293995
Hi, I want to create a php webservice server to be used from a C# application. I want to have a library who autogenerate wsdl file for easy management (That's the reason why I choosed NuSoap). I tried to use nusoap on PHP5. I have some problems with charset and Content-Type. Visual Studio gives this error : The HTML document does not contain Web service discovery information. Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'https://www.xxx.yy'. There is a problem with the XML that was received from the network. See inner exception for more details. The encoding in the declaration 'ISO-8859-1' does not match the encoding of the document 'utf-8'. If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again. $soap= new soap_server(); $soap-xml_encoding = 'utf-8'; $soap-configureWSDL('Bonjour', 'https://www.xxx.yy'); $soap-wsdl-schemaTargetNamespace = 'http://soapinterop.org/xsd/'; $soap-register('bonjour', array('prenom' = 'xsd:string')); $HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA = file_get_contents("php://input"); $soap-service($HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA); header('Content-Type: application/soap+xml; charset=utf-8'); function bonjour($prenom) { return "Bonjour ".$prenom; } ? Does someone knows how to change that to make it compliant and working ? Thanks

• OS X: Terminal output of javac is garbled.

- by Don Werve
I've got my computer set up in Japanese (hey, it's good language practice), and everything is all fine and dandy... except javac. It displays localized error messages out to the console, but they're in Shift-JIS, not UTF8: $ javac this-file-doesnt-exist.java javac: ?t?@?C??????????????: this-file-doesnt-exist.java ?g????: javac <options> ?g?p?\??I?v?V?????~??X?g?????A-help ???g?p???? If I pipe the output through nkf -w, it's readable, but that's not really much of a solution: $ javac this-file-doesnt-exist.java 2>&1 | nkf -w javac: ????????????: this-file-doesnt-exist.java ???: javac <options> ????????????????????-help ?????? Everything else works fine (with UTF8) from the command-line; I can type filenames in Japanese, tab-completion works fine, vi can edit UTF-8 files, etc. Although java itself spits out all its messages in English (which is fine). Here's the relevant bits of my environment: LC_CTYPE=UTF-8 LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 From what it looks like, javac isn't picking up the encoding properly, and java isn't picking up the language at all. I've tried -Dfile.encoding=utf8 as well, but that does nada, and documentation on the localization of the JVM toolchain is pretty nonexistent, at least from Google.
