  • How to tile multiple procedurally generated textures?

    I'm trying to develop a procedural tile generator for a game, mostly for the ground tiles, instead of using "hand-drawn" tiles. To achieve this I'm using Perlin noise and a sine wave with multiple parameters, which already gives me pretty nice results. I don't want to generate 1 tile and repeat that one forever for one ground type, but I want to avoid recurrences, so I'm generating n different tiles. The problem I'm having now is that I want to tile the generated textures (smooth transitions). At the moment I have this: 4 256x256 textures. I thought a simple method would be to just add the positions of the different tiles to the noise generation algorithm, so that, when creating the 4 256x256 textures, it would behave like it would create a 512x512 texture, but that somehow didn't work as intented. So how can I tile those textures?

    I have a Thinkpad E430 notebook, and the intel's USB 3.0 controller can not be recognized by Ubuntu 12.04. The LED on my USB-HDD is white instead of blue (And in Windows 7, it is blue when connected to USB 3.0 port, and is white when connected to 2.0). And the transfer speed is around 25MB/s instead of 65MB/s in Windows 7. I'm not familiar with Linux systems, so I've no clue about what's going wrong. I've searched the web, but got no solution.

    Hello I'm a senior student at my university and chairperson of IEEE Student Branch there. Recently I was thinking of some idea to acquaint students with the professional environment, how software is produced in the industry and get a practical experience.. Obviously trips to software houses are not enough and we cannot provide this many internships. So the idea of simulating a software house within the university popped in. Resources at my disposal are students with their own laptops, university UPS and lan network with internet access, and a reasonably sized room with a whiteboard and three hours free time daily.. :) However, I have absolutely no idea where to begin with. Milestones or whatever it may be called, are Requirements Document generation, sharing of resources, delegation of tasks, version controlling etc... I'd really appreciate some advice, programming tools (for JAVA), communication tools etc and other things used in a decent software house... Technologies to be targeted shall be random possibly starting with J2EE Spring Hibernate and Later Visual Programming in .NET C# and ASP.NET MVC as well as Android or iPhone development....

    i tried to install bricscad from the deb file but is for 32bit systems.So i had problems and i downloaded the .tgz file and ran tar -xvf and i was in the directory /opt/bricsys/bricscad/v12 So i managed to run bricscad with the command sudo sh bricscad.sh in the directory this.So my question is, do you have any idea of how to make a launcher or smthing so i can run the program from an easier way?I cannot find it in dash(unity) or in the desktop. Any help will be great! Thanks

  • Ubuntu Freezes w/ Proxy

    Ubuntu 11.04 freezes completely after a little while when using a proxy. It's fine when it's got a direct Internet connection, but it completely grinds to a halt after about 10 or 15 minutes of traffic through a proxy. Any ideas? UPDATE: Here's some more information. I have a second-generation MacBook, which has both OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) and Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) installed on it. When running through a proxy, Snow Leopard works fine, but Ubuntu freezes frequently. Any suggestions at all? Or, rather, what other kinds of information do you need?

    I have heard about the GPX, but i don't really think the embedded market is mature enough in terms of performance, but what about the home console market ? I'm not talking about last-generation graphics, because that would be economically impossible, but what about an hardware as fast as a playstation 2/Xbox 1/Gamecube ? For games, the trick would be to ask some editors to recompile their best sellers for the new machine: those games being from the PSX age or even older console generations, I think this would have a very low cost job and they could still make some good profit, but I need to know if this is doable technically, considering the architecture which can be quite exotic. Do you think it would be a viable project to talk about to investors ?

I'm having this error message while running ./configure: checking for gsl-config... no checking for GSL - version >= 1.0... no *** The gsl-config script installed by GSL could not be found *** If GSL was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in *** your path, or set the GSL_CONFIG environment variable to the *** full path to gsl-config. configure: error: could not find required gsl library I checked and I have the GSL already installed: :~/Programas/ape-2.2.0$ dpkg -l | grep gsl ii libgsl0ldbl 1.16+dfsg-1ubuntu1 i386 GNU Scientific Library (GSL) -- library package So I have the library but the program installation isn't finding it.     I've been out of the Ubuntu loop for quite a while now and have a completely new laptop now.     In certain corners of the PHP meta-programming world, it's become fashionable to use PHPDoc comments as a mechanism for providing semantically meaningful information to a program. That is, other code will parse the doc blocks and do something significant with the information encoded in those comments. Doctrine's annotations and code generation are an example of this. What's the earliest (or some early) use of this technique? I have vague memories of some early java Design by Contract implementations doing similar things, but I'm not sure of those folks were inventing the technique, or if they got it from somewhere. Mainly asking so I can provide some historical context for PHP developers who haven't come across the technique before, and are distrustful of it because it seems a little crazy pants.
