  • XNA VertexBuffer.SetData performance suggestions

    I have a 3d world in a grid layout where each grid cell contains its separate vertex and index buffer for the mesh/terrain of that cell. When the player moves outside the boundaries of his cell, i dynamically load more cells in his walking direction based on his viewing distance. This triggers x number of vertex and indexbuffer initializations depending on how many cells that needs to be generated and causes the framerate to drop annoyingly during this time. The generation of terrain data is handled in a separate thread and runs smoothly. The vertex and index buffers are added during the update cycle of the game loop. I´ve tried batching the number of cells to be processed to avoid sending too much data at once into the buffers, which worked ok at a shorter viewing distance (about 9 cells to process), but not as well at greater distances with around 30 cells to process. Any idea how i can optimize this?

    So I got my new laptop recently. HP Envy 15 with switchable graphics card. I'm using both windows and ubuntu, but for ubuntu I need just Intel HD3000 for better battery live. I've installed fglrx-updates and fglrx-amdcccle-updates. The drivers seems to work for my ATI card. The problem is, Intel HD3000 does not support Unity 3D. Why?     hello I'm new in linux systems and I have the same problem in every distro... the thing is that my mouse every time i move it or do anything with it blinks!!! I think it's a xorg problem or a driver problem and the only way it does not do that is when i start with the low-resolution error using a xorg.conf from another graphic chipset and i think that isn't the best choise xDD please if you can help me I have a ati rage 128, thanks a lot for your help people n.n

  • System beeps on shutdown

    Very recently a couple of our systems have started making beeps on shutdown, we've not been able to isolate the exact time that they've been updated and it's occuring, but I've narrowed it down to being not pcspkr or snd_pcsp as both are blacklisted under modprobe, and rmmod'ed just to be sure. Now I'm a bit puzzled as I was under the impression those were the only two modules that could make the beep, is there a third lurking that I need to blacklist?     Is it possible to create a terminal application which uses cocos2d? I've tried to make one using cocos2d 2.x, but it requires a MacGLView to be initialized. I need it so that I could program a terminal application that generates a screenshot given a TMX file and an optional preferred width or height parameter (for resizing). Then I can automate the generation of map previews for my game, instead of manually taking screenshots. It's not practical to load the actual TMX and resize it inside the game (what I'm currently doing), because each TMX file has 7 layers, my tile sheet is huge, and I have lots of levels.
