• how do I go about removing all the language packs I don't need

  I just noticed that in /usr/share/help I have the ubuntu help files in 70 different languages. I only speak 2, and I only really compute in one. I also noticed that it is full of broken symbolic links to /usr/share/help-langpack. I want just want to get rid of all the languages I don't need. How can I do this without getting all rm -r happy? I'm preferably looking for a way to do this without installing any new packages, as my main goal is to get rid of excess stuff on my machine. I'd like to find a way to do this preferably with dpkg, or apt.

• Html Buttons with Triangles [migrated]

  I'm looking for the simplest way of creating 'buttons' with bootom-central triangles as follows: |--------| | Text | |---\/---| By buttons/menu items I mean something which will will support atomic mouse behavior for the whole shape's region. No rounded corners just the shape itself. I saw plenty of websites doing thsese buttons lately, but now for some strange reason I couldn't find any. Ideally I'm looking for tutorial links or some general guidances, as the topic might be too big to be covered by one post. Technology scope wise - ideally I'm looking for Html5/Css3 solution. I don't care mouch about old IE support and I think Html5/css3 will give a slicker/more elegant solution. On the way forward I might need to add drop shadows, which is another argument in favour of css3. Thanks.

• Ubuntu 12.10 automatic logout

  I just had a new desktop constructed and installed ubuntu 12.10 which was successful for the most part but every time I open up some applications like thunderbird I get automatically logged out and all my windows are closed. System error messages also come up from time to time. Also I'm not sure if this helps but if I select the "Use system title bar and borders" in chromium I will also get logged out and from that point won't be able to use it without getting logged out in the future. If I click on particular links as well. If anyone has any tips on how I can isolate and fix the problem I would greatly appreciate it.

• How do I install third-party rhythmbox plugins?

  Now that the dust has settled and Rhythmbox has become (again) the default music-media player in 12.04, I'm interested in extending its functionality. For example, the default lyric plugin does not work for me and there doesn't appear to be an sound-equalizer by default. Having done a search, I came across the Gnome-website that lists a number of third-party plugins, some-of which I wish to install which can resolve the above. However, there doesn't appear to be .deb packages or a repository containing these plugins. Instead there are links to source-code websites such as GitHub and others. So, I'm confused - I don't know which plugins works in 12.04 Rhythmbox and I'm not sure how to install these. Help please?

• Is a program linked against an LGPL library in linux still under GPL?

  If I were to write say, an embeded linux video server, how much of the code do I have to offer to someone who requests the source? Do I have to offer the code that directly links against the GPL covered code or do I have to offer all code? For instance, if I use gstreamer, or any other LGPL code, on a linux platform in my program, does all of my code become under GPL simply because somewhere in the chain, the LGPL program had to link agaist GPL code? I guess this is an extension of the question. Can you write a C library that compiles in linux that does not become subject to GPL?

  I'm interested in developing a game who's background music changes with the mood and scenario of the game's action. Of course many existing games do this (halo for example), but I was interested in any resources/papers/articles talking about the techniques to develop a system like this. I have some ideas, and I understand that this will be equally challenging to implement at the code level as it will be to come up or acquire music that fits this model.   Is there any direct way do contact a „real” person, an YouTube employer? Someone created an account for the company I work for (previous employer). She entered some password and e-mail. The provided e-mail was valid, but since last login (more than two years), we changed our domain, and this e-mail is probably not valid anymore (and we even don't know it), co we can't use option to reset password. I have used all the options in YouTube help center, and no one worked. Also we can't contact this previous employer to get any data she entered in the registration form. The only data I know is the username. All the movies present the products of our company, there are links to our site in movie descriptions, so there should be no problem to prove that the account is ours. This is an urgent case, becouse the movies contain outdated information.

• Why is Google not indexing my forum?

  I have this web site that as you can see on the top right has is a "Forums" button that links to my forums. My problem is that if, for instance, I make a Google search "site:heliumscraper.com answers" I don't get any result, even though the word "answers" is in the forum's board index and it has been there for a few months already. I don't have a robots file. I also uploaded a sitemap to Google that contained the forum. I'm thinking the problem might be the fact that the only link from my main page to the forum opens in a new window. Could this be the problem?

  It might seem like there is not much time passed since Tyrus 1.0 (Java API for WebSocket reference implementation) release, but the fact is it was frozen several weeks before going public and development in the trunk continued. Tyrus 1.1 brings some new features and improvements: client-side proxy support simple command line client various stability/performance fixes (see below for complete list) Individual blog posts about highlighted features will follow, same as related user guide chapters.. stay tuned!   I was always told I was left brained and could not draw. And I bought into that view. Somewhere down the road years ago I did learn to play guitar and to play by ear at that.  Now that’s not all left brained so my right brain must be working.  About a year ago, my good friend Billy Hollis turned me own to a book by Betty Edwards (http://www.drawright.com/).  I started reading this and soon I found my self drawing on napkins in restaurants while we were waiting on food and at many other times too.  Dang’d if I could not draw! • How can I make a browser trust my SSL certificate when I request resources from an external server?

  I have installed an SSL certificate on one of my domains and it works perfectly, but on some pages I include a Google Font, which causes my certificate icon to change in: instead of: The reason, according to Google Chrome (translated with Google Translate): Your connection to xxxxxx is encrypted with 128-bit encryption. This page includes other resources which are not secure. These resources can be viewed by others while in transit and can be modified to fit. So how can I make the browser 'trust' my SSL certificate, even though I request an external resource from Google Fonts?   I installed Ubuntu 11.04 on one of my systems and I am using Unity interface. Unity is working quite nice so far but i really miss panel applets for net speed, cpu temp, and system monitor. These applets show useful quickinfo and unlike 10.10 there is no way to get these on panel or unity launcher. There are solutions like screenlets and conky but they don't feel appropriate for a clean desktop look. If you know then please list out any third party indicators with links so that they can be found at one place.

• phpBB3 antispam: mod for "patrolling" the forum?

  I've been working on various antispam measure in a phpBB3-based forum I host. Now I was thinking of an extension/mod that ties in with editing of posts (and later perhaps signatures/profiles) in that new text or edited text defaults to something like "not patrolled" and moderators could then in a special queue review text that contains links or similar item (based on heuristics). Now the question: does such a mod exist (I didn't find one)? If it does exist and anyone has used it (or them), please include your experiences with it in the answer.

  In this talk Jon Skeet talks about the advantages of reading programming language specifications. I have an Ebook Reader (a Sony, one of the better ones for PDF's, though EPub is still much better). Does anyone know any sources for specifications, optimised for ebook readersm that can be downloaded? I expect someone would have gone through the effort of optimising the websites for ebook reader reading, ideally: EPUB Format (though pdf will do) Annotated (eg XML) Most specifications I find don't have obvious download links. I'm having trouble googling because everytime I seach for say: "F# Spec EPUB" or "Python Spec PDF" most of the results are for the EPUB or PDF specifications.

  I have connected USB keyboard & mouse to core i7 intel processor.When i boot my system in ubuntu with kernel 3.2.21 it runs properly i.e usb keyboard & usb mouse works satisfactorily. ISSUE When i boot my system in linux(ubuntu 3.5.7) USB keyboard & usb Mouse stops working.i have to boot my system by pressing "e" and then "Enter" i.e it directly links with the hardware.Mouse doesnt get power i.e LED under my optical mouse doesnt glow. kindly help me.

• Why my site is not ranking for particular keyword

  My site is only 3 days to be 6 months old. This website is unique, that is there is no competitor to this type site in India, providing comparison of payment gateways in India, besides the payment gateways companies itself. I've optimized it for key word : "payment gateway" I've changed the url's twice, latest being 3 months back, in which case Google Webmaster gave plently of 404's. I corrected the useful 404's and left meaningless ones as it is. What is the reason it's not ranking well for payment gateways? Even site with single page about "Payment gateways" seem to be ranking better than this. Is it does to: 1) Lot of outbound links to in-context companies and information 2) 404's as reported in Google Webmaster My another site is successfully getting 1500 unique visitors daily and is up in Google ranking. I don't know why it is not!
