• Can you change a license once you pick one?

  I am working on a product that I don't feel is completely ready but I have a set of users that are very interested in using it now as "alpha" testers. I would like to give them the product now for free as "alpha" testers, but I would like to later license the software. Is this possible? Can anyone point me to any links/books/articles/etc? Thanks. EDIT: Due to the lack of my clarity and the reponses to the question I thought I should add this statement. I haven't decided if I am going to close-source or open-source this project yet. The user base that wants to get their hands on it now has kind of surprised me and I was concerned about what my options are as far as being able to give it to them now as open-source and later change to closed-source, or even vice versa. • SEO for landing page of three different language sites

  I have three sites running under the main domain example.com/en/ example.com/ar/ example.com/ur/ And there is a main HTML landing page example.com which have some introduction in three languages and links to three sites. Now i want this landing page to have a good SEO. and i want this page to appear in search in three languages. if someone searchs Arabic it should be in results with Arabic title and description, if someone searches in English it should response in English. Is it possible? or suggest me other way to make a landing page for these sites.

• Recommended flexible website solution?

  My site has a MyBB forums installation, and that is pretty much all I need. Forums. However, I need a homepage and a couple other static pages, for showing relevant information, links, etc. I don't need something fancy, all I need is something very flexible regarding theme and style editing, and just a couple simple modules, like public polls. That's all. I am very graphical, and I am looking for something to let me edit pretty much every aspect of the site. These are static pages, mainly, so I don't need something very complex. Some people tell me to use Dreamweaver, but quite honestly, that is not what I am looking for, even thought it does offer a lot of flexibility. I want something like, you know, Drupal or.. some other simple, deeply-editable in terms of graphics and style web platform. What would you recommend to me? Thank you.

• joomla sometimes messes up urls, probably cache involved

  Is a bit i'm having this problem and i really cannot get the hang of it... Every once in while my joomla site messes up links url and for example from something like this: http://www.sism.org/index.php?option=com_comprofiler&task=userslist&listid=4&Itemid=123 it becomes like this: http://www.sism.org/index.php/component/k2/administrator/components/com_dump/assets/css/images/stories/inrilievo/sism/htm/index.php?option=com_comprofiler&task=userslist&listid=4&Itemid=123 the new page has the right content but there are no css and other linked resources. Usually i solve the problem by deleting all the cache and turning it off and on again. Of course this is pretty annoying especially for my association. Does any one have any clue on this? Watching the URLs the components involved seems to be K2 and Jdump. Thanks

• Should I use nodindex, follow or rel canonical?

  I have a site that lists offers, promotions from other websites. Since the offers expire rather quickly I don't save them into my database. I see no point in having a page from 2010 about 30% discount on a certain brand of shoes which isn't availabe anymore. A visitor enters my website; He clicks on the "shoes" category; http://www.mysite.com/shoes/ Here he sees 20 available promotions from different online stores. He clicks on a promotion and gets to a page like this: http://www.mysite.com/shoes/promotions/prada Questions: I use the template promotions.php and list all the promotions. /promotions/prada/ /promotions/otherbrand/ .... What I do is use "noindex, follow" for the links. Is that a good idea? Or should I use rel="canonical" for the promotion page? How do you advise me to handle this from the SEO point of view?

• How to use PostgreSQL on AWS - Ubuntu 11.10

  I'm extremely new to cloud-computing, Linux, and PostgreSQL, so if this is a stupid question, I apologize. I've managed to create an m1.large instance running Ubuntu 11.10, connect via Putty SSH, and install PostgreSQL (sudo apt-get install postgresql), but that is as far as I've gotten. My goal is to run several python web-scraping scripts that I've written on this instance (so as not to eat up all of our bandwidth (smaller company at the moment)) and insert the scraped data into a PostgreSQL table on the instance and later retrieve that data to store on our local server (as I've heard AWS EBS is unreliable and I don't want to take chances). How can I configure PostgreSQL on my AWS instance? How can I access the data from my machine? I currently use PgAdmin3 to manage PosgreSQL on our local server. Can I use this same interface to manage PostgreSQL on my AWS instance? Any suggestions, solutions, links, etc is greatly appreciated. And again, if this is a dumb question, I apologize.

• Amazon GameCircle Integration

  I'm trying to integrate Amazon GameCircle and I have been able to successfully initialize GameCircle in my app, but the problem is when I click on the button that displays achievements, the GameCircle achievement list comes up but it says "You have unlocked 0 of 0 achievements". Same happens with leaderboards i.e there are no leaderboards for this app. I have created a Leaderboard and a few achievements on the online developer portal for Amazon but they don't show for some reason. Can someone help me with this. Any links/resources that help with integrating GameCircle will be appreciated. Thanks.

• Which folders need to be backedup for migration in Joomla?

  I have never used Joomla before, so this might be a noobish question. I have tried searching, but haven't found anything relevant. I'm helping someone update & migrate their old website, built on the Joomla framework. Currently it is running on Joomla 1.5.8 which is an ancient version. I've convinced them to upgrade Joomla to atleast 2.5 I have already taken the database backup. Most links I have seen talk of backing up the entire public_html folder (The website runs on a shared host). But in my fresh Joomla installation there are several folders that are in the public_html folder. So which of the folders in the public_html folder are from the content of the website, and which are of the old Joomla framework? I'm afraid that I might overwrite files of the new Joomla framework with the old framework, if copy all the files and folders into the new installation.

• Is there a media player that works on HTTPS sites?

  I'm currently using Yahoo! Media Player for a site that needs to play MP3 files that are stored on our server. In total, there's quite a bit more than the free limits at Soundcloud, but each file is only a few minutes long. YMP is pretty good, but causes security warnings on HTTPS pages, because it can only be served via HTTP. Is there an equivalent free player I can embed for the HTTPS pages? EDIT: Just to clarify, I'm initially looking for something that will scan the page and turn media links playable.

  Hi All, Recently I went to an interview for a C development position. Instead of asking me questions, they just gave me 20 code snippets to find out two logical errors on each one. I just couldn't complete all of the 20 since it took me time to go through each of these code snippets. My question is: Is this the right way to judge a candidate? If yes, how can I improve over my error detection skills so that I don't need to waste a lot of time in the next interview? • Why Wikipedia doesn't appear as a referral in Google Analytics' Traffic sources?

  One of my clients has a website and got not spammy backlinks in a Wikipedia article. When I test it for SEO purposes with Google Analytics (from different IPs), apparently there is no referral information. On the Real-Time view my test visit is visible but with There is no data for this view in the referrals subview. And this visits appear as (direct) / (none) on the Traffic sources view. Wikipedia is not hiding in any way its links origin, since it is shown in the server visits log. Is Google ignoring Wikipedia as a referral? Am I missing anything else? Update: Now it works, several days after the link was active. Maybe something is detecting for how long the link was there so that it doesn't work just from the beggining, as a security measure? Many visits are actually not recorded.

• Why are Back In Time snapshots so large?

  I just backed up the contents of my home partition onto my external hard drive using Back In Time. I browsed to the backed up contents in the external drive and under properties it showed me the size as 9.6 GB. As I read that in next snapshots I create, Back In Time does not backup everything but creates hard links for older contents and saves newer contents, I wanted to test it. So I copied two small files into my home partition and ran 'Take Snapshot' again. The operation completed within a minute - first it checked previous snapshot, assessed the changes, detected two new files and synced them. After this when I browsed to the backed up contents, I was surprised to see the newer and older backup taking up 9.6 GB each. Isn't this a waste of hard drive space? Or did I interpret something wrongly?

• MVC 2 Breaks my Charts?

  I wonder if anyone has had issues with running MSCharts with MVC 2?  I have tried a couple of different issues, but still have not got them to render correctly.  In the end I always end up with broken image links.  Has anyone seen this? I have no errors displaying in my MVC 2 Application build or anything, nothing specific that leads me to any explanation.  If anyone has any ideas, please leave a comment or shoot me an e-mail; adronhall at gmail dot com.  I would greatly appreciate any insight you MSChart Elite may have.  : )

• fglrx installation without success - gl_conf issue

  I followed the steps of this guide. I've installed the drivers without any problems with sudo dpkg -i fglrx*.deb. The next step is Generate a new /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, but I can't do this due to the following reason: When I enter sudo aticonfig --initial -f the terminal show me this output: sudo: aticonfig: command not found This problem is caused by an error with the symbolics links into the fglrx directory. Look at this section, where you can see -how to fix it- but it doesn't work for me. Why it doesn't? Because after I enter sudo update-alternatives --auto gl_conf the terminal show me this: update-alternatives: error: no alternatives for gl_conf. What I have to do to fix this problem? • My first Windows Phone 7 application is live &ndash; from zero to submitted in 5 hours

  Tuesday evening I found myself minus family. I decided to use the time to “have a crack at this Silverlight Phone 7 stuff”. From zero (no experience, no tools installed, no membership on the AppHub) to submitted for approval took me from 8pm to 1am – with the last hour messing around with png files in Paint to complete the submission process! Two days later on Thursday it was approved and is now in the marketplace for you to install - or not :-) The application is very simple but it works and looks “finished” – and importantly I learnt a lot about what is involved and the power of our tooling to make this pretty easy to get going. Go on, give it a go by popping over to the App Hub. You do need to pay $99 to join the App Hub to publish but you can start by downloading the free tools and just work with the included emulator.   Apress Books Introducing Visual C# 2010 - ISBN 978-1-4302-3171-4 Having read through parts 1 and 2 of this 4 -part book, I am very impressed by its practical approach to C#. I cannot improve on the by-line "Get started on your C# journey with an expert by your side leading by example" Adam Freeman teaches C# by precept and example. I suspect he drives a Volvo C30 as it comes up in many of the code examples!  Throughout the book there are numerous links back and forth so as to avoid overcomplicating the current topic. I have have no hesitation in recommending this book both to programmers starting out with C# and to the seasoned professional. It is a book that should be on every C# development team's book shelf. There are a few typographical errors in the book, one of which has already made it to the errata, however these are very minor and do not detract from the usefulness of this book.

• Rendering citations and references in HTML using PHP/Perl/Python/

  Is there a PHP/Perl/Python/... library for picking citations out of an HTML file and rendering a nice list of references at the bottom, like in Wikipedia? I'm developing a website with heavily-sourced content, and I'd really like to have automatically-generated lists of formatted references, like in Wikipedia. (Check out their philosophy page, and see how the superscript numbered citations interact with the references at the bottom. This is all dynamically generated, automatically ordered & linked.) They do it really well: the citations are linked to the references (which are backlinked to the citations), when you click on one of the links, the target is highlighted, etc. I'm tempted to build the site on MediaWiki just for this one feature, but it seems like overkill. Do I have any options?
