    I need the timestamps of files on my local and on my server to be in sync. This is accomplished with Subversion by setting use-commit-times=true in the config so that the last modified of each file is when it was committed. Each time I clone my repository, I want the timestamps of files to reflect when they were last changed in the remote repository, not when I cloned the repo. Is there any way to do this with git?

    Why can I not rebase from the same location that I can pull? For example, if I am in a pository I can pull from another repository: git pull /path/to/other But I cannot rebase from that other repository; the following fails: git rebase /path/to/other The help for rebase doesn't mention any refspec's, so I don't know how, or even if, I can/should specify them. How can I rebase from a different location?

    Is there a way to configure the directory where core dump files are placed for a specific process? I have a daemon process written in C++ for which I would like to configure the core dump directory. Optionally the filename pattern should be configurable, too. I know about /proc/sys/kernel/core_name_format, however this would change the pattern and directory structure globally. Apache has the directive CoreDumpDirectory - so it seems to be possible.

  • Poor performance / speed of regex with lookahead

    I have been observing extremely slow execution times with expressions with several lookaheads. I suppose that this is due to underlying data structures, but it seems pretty extreme and I wonder if I do something wrong or if there are known work-arounds. The problem is determining if a set of words are present in a string, in any order. For example we want to find out if two terms "term1" AND "term2" are somewhere in a string. I do this with the expresion: (?=.*\bterm1\b)(?=.*\bterm2\b) But what I observe is that this is an order of magnitude slower than checking first just \bterm1\b and just then \bterm2\b This seems to indicate that I should use an array of patterns instead of a single pattern with lookaheads... is this right? it seems wrong...     Simple question: What is the pattern for the word character \w in c#, .net? My first thought was that it matches [A-Za-z0-9_] and the documentation tells me: Character class Description Pattern Matches \w Matches any \w "I", "D", "A", "1", "3" word character. in "ID A1.3" which is not very helpful. And \w seems to match äöü, too. What else? Is there a better (exact) definition available?
