• How to detect popup of a sub-menu of a popup menu (and how to populate it dynamically)?

  Hi everyone, I have a popup menu which contains several menu items and one of them can have child items. This entry has a little arrow on the right and when you hover your mouse over it, a sub-menu will open. Now I want to populate this sub-menu at runtime, but only if the user actually opens it. If the user never opens the sub-menu, it will be empty (maybe contain a placeholder). How could I accomplish this? Is it even possible to modify a popup-menu when it is already visible? • Different return XML in a WCF Operation

  I am writing a service to a international HTTP standard, and there is one method that can return three different XML results, call them Single, Multiple and Error. Now I've written an IXmlSerializable class that can consume each of these results and generate them. However, WCF seems to insist that I can only have a single return XML root name. I have to choose an XmlRoot for my custom object of either Single, Multiple or Error. How can I set up WCF so that I can choose at runtime what the root will be? • WPF Custom Control with Image problem

  Hi all, I am quite new to WPF/XAML and I am currently facing a problem. I have a solution with two projects in it, the first project is a Custom Control Library with a custom Window form control inside. The second project is a WPF application using my custom window form. All work fine except for the form Icon. In the WPF application project I set my window icon property to "/ProjectTwoNameSpace;component/Resources/Images/Film.ico", and in the WPF custom control I try to show that image that way : <Image Grid.Column="0" Margin="3" Width="27" Height="27"> <Image.Source> <BitmapImage UriSource="{Binding Path=Icon}" /> </Image.Source> </Image> But it doesn't work, I get a error at runtime saying that the property UriSource or StreamSource must be set for my tag. Anyone can help me ? I think it's jsut a WPF newbie problem ^^

• Storing an image map in a database

  I have a requirement to allow users in a content management system to create their own image maps through a gui interface, which I have accomplished. But instead of saving the image map to the page code, I want to save the image map code to a database (sql), which I've also accomplished. When I started down this road in my head I was thinking the whole time that I'd just add the "usemap" attribute at runtime shown below where promo1.ImageMap holds the entire map code: if(promo1.HasImageMap) imgPromotion1.Attributes.Add("usemap", promo1.ImageMap); I guess I didn't think it though well enough, because it seems that "usemap" only expects the name of the existing map to use from the page code, and not the map code as a string. Does anyone have any clever ideas on how to apply the map from the database to the image at run time?

• Dynamic Linq query issue

  Hey All, Im trying to query the Netflix OData feed. I have the following query that works fine in LinqPad: from g in Genres from t in g.Titles where g.Name == "Horror" && t.AverageRating == 2 && t.ReleaseYear == 2004 select t But, when I move it over to my Silverlight app, the user selects what to search on so I may or may not have all of the params. That being the case, I need to construct the query at runtime. Ive looked the the Dynamic Query stuff and that will do fine...the issue that I have is that I need an initial acceptable query to append to and this doesn't fly: from g in Genres from t in g.Titles select t; Any additional thoughts would be appreciated.   Hi, I am adding a WCF Service Reference in a Silverlight project, it is generating code with XmlSerialization attributes for DataMembers than SOAP Serialization. But, if the same WCF service reference is added in an ASP.Net project, is generating code with SOAP Serialization attribtues. Can anybody let me know what could be the cause for it, and how can I force reference to generate SOAP Serialization? • What causes a WPF ListCollectionView that uses custom sorting to re-sort its items?

  Consider this code (type names genericised for the purposes of example): // Bound to ListBox.ItemsSource _items = new ObservableCollection<Item>(); // ...Items are added here ... // Specify custom IComparer for this collection view _itemsView = CollectionViewSource.GetDefaultView(_items) ((ListCollectionView)_itemsView).CustomSort = new ItemComparer(); When I set CustomSort, the collection is sorted as I expect. However I require the data to re-sort itself at runtime in response to the changing of the properties on Item. The Item class derives from INotifyPropertyChanged and I know that the property fires correctly as my data template updates the values on screen, only the sorting logic is not being called. I have also tried raising INotifyPropertyChanged.PropertyChanged passing an empty string, to see if a generic notification would cause the sorting to be initiated. No bananas. EDIT In response to Kent's suggestion I thought I'd point out that sorting the items using this has the same result, namely that the collection sorts once but does not re-sort as the data changes: _itemsView.SortDescriptions.Add( new SortDescription("PropertyName", ListSortDirection.Ascending));

• ASP.NET MVC based CMS - dynamic generation of form helpers

  I am working on an ASP.NET MVC based CMS that presents a rather extreme case. The system must allow the user to add custom content types based on different fields, and for every field, one can add options and validations. The thing is that everything is stored in a complex DB and extracted at runtime using LINQ. I am pretty fresh with ASPNET MVC so the following dilemma came to mind How should I make the content creation view so that form helpers are not predefined int he view code but are loaded based on the type of the field ? Do I have to create a factory class that checks the value of the type property of the field, and then returns a helper based on that or there's a better way to do it. This one seems pretty rigid to me , because anytime I make a change in the Fieldtypes table, I will have to make sure to create a check for that new type too.

  I know that PHP doesn't have native Enumerations. But I have become accustomed to them from the Java world. I would love to use enums as a way to give predefined values which IDEs' auto completion features could understand. Constants do the trick, but there's the namespace collision problem and (or actually because) they're global. Arrays don't have the namespace problem, but they're too vague, they can be overwritten at runtime and IDEs rarely (never?) know how to autofill their keys. Are there any solutions/workarounds you commonly use? Does anyone recall whether the PHP guys have had any thoughts or decisions around enums?

  In Emacs, I'm working with a file that is a hybrid of two languages. Question 1: Is there a simple way to write a major mode file that combines two major modes? Details: The language is called "brew" (not the "BREW" of "Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless"). brew is made up of the languages R and Latex, whose modes are R-mode and latex-mode. The R code appears between the tags <% and %. Everything else is Latex. How can I write a brew-mode.el file? (Or is one already available?) One idea, which I got from this posting, is to use Latex mode, and treat the code of the form <% ... % as a comment. Question 2: How do you change the .emacs file or the latex.el file to have Latex mode treat code of the form <% ... % as a comment?

• possible to recreate xml out of ActionScript?

  Hi, I got stuck with an SWF which has ActionScript in it and should use some xml. The problem is, I cannot edit the SWF by decompiling it and compile it again, it simply doesn't work... Adobe Flash CS4 rebuilds the thing, but after I press CTRL+ENTER I get a lot of runtime errors (probably something to do with AS <- AS2 <- AS3 and don't know how to fix that). So the question is: can I reconstruct how the xml should look like? I am able to view all the actionscript code with Flash Decompiler Gold and ain't gettin much smarter. Maybe I could post the code if someone desire it. thanks

• Linq to Entities, checking for specific foreign key id?

  I am trying to get rows where the foreign key ParentID == 0, and this is what I am trying but I get a NotSupportedException because it can't translate the ArrayIndex [0]: IQueryable<ApplicationSectionNode> topLevelNodeQuery = from n in uacEntitiesContext.ApplicationSectionNodeSet where (int)n.Parent.EntityKey.EntityKeyValues[0].Value == 0 orderby n.Sequence select n; So I need to pull that ArrayIndex out of the query so that the runtime can successfully translate the query. I'm not sure how to do that though. How does one query a specific object via it's primary key or set of objects via foreign key? Edit: Note that there is not actually a row in the table with NodeId == 0, the 0 is a magic value(not my idea) to indicate top level nodes. So I can't do n.Parent.NodeId == 0

• How do I run a vim script that alters the current buffer?

  I'm trying to write a beautify.vim script that makes C-like code adhere to a standard that I can easily read. My file contains only substitution commands that all begin with %s/... However, when I try to run the script with my file open, in the manner :source beautify.vim, or :runtime beautify.vim, it runs but all the substitute commands state that their pattern wasn't found (patterns were tested by entering them manually and should work). Is there some way to make vim run the commands in the context of the current buffer? beautify.vim: " add spaces before open braces sil! :%s/\%>1c>\s\@<!{/ {/g " beautify for sil! :%s/for *( *\([^;]*\) *; *\([^;]*\) *; *\([^;]*\) *)/for (\1; \2; \3)/ " add spaces after commas sil! :%s/,\s\@!/, /g In my tests the first :s command should match (it matches when applied manually).

• Unable to install Maven: "JAVA_HOME is set to an invalid directory"

  I followed the Maven tutorial to the letter but I still can't get Maven installed. When I run the following in command prompt: E:\Documents and Settings\zach>mvn --version I get: 'mvn' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I navigated to the maven install folder and ran mvn --version and got: E:\java resources\apache-maven-2.2.0\bin>mvn --version ERROR: JAVA_HOME is set to an invalid directory. JAVA_HOME = "E:\Sun\SDK\jdk\bin" Please set the JAVA_HOME variable in your environment to match the location of your Java installation but when I run java -version I get: java version "1.6.0_14" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_14-b08) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.0-b16, mixed mode) So I do have Java installed. Anyone know what the problem is?

The obvious costs are those of creating weak references and calling get on them. A less obvious cost is that significant extra work needs to be done each time the GC runs. So what exactly is the cost to the GC of a weak ref? What extra work does it need to do, and how big of a deal is it? I can make some educated guesses, but am interested in the actual mechanics.

One of the main use cases / constraints is that it must support generating dynamic pages. I.e., the page/form layout and components is stored in a database and is changeable at runtime, and from this pages are generated. We are also going to write static layouts, but that is not the main focus of this question. I thought maybe the user community here can share experiences of different frameworks in this context. Are there differences in ease of implementation and what is suitable?

• Null Inner Bean with Spring IoC

I have a singleton bean definition like this: <bean id="exampleBean" class="com.examples.ExampleBean"> <property name="exampleBean2"> <bean class="com.examples.ExampleBean2" /> </property> </bean> where ExampleBean could be: public class ExampleBean { private ExampleBean2 exampleBean2; public ExampleBean() { } public ExampleBean2 getExampleBean2() { return exampleBean2; } public void setExampleBean2(ExampleBean2 exampleBean2) { this.exampleBean2 = exampleBean2; } } The problem is that, in certain conditions, the com.examples.ExampleBean2 class might not exist at runtime witch will cause an error when the IoC tries to instantiate exampleBean. What I need is to ignore this error from IoC and allow the exampleBean to be created but leaving the exampleBean2 property null. So the question is: is this possible in any way?   In C#, I am using form1 as homescreen,.. while running exe from Debug folder, form1.exe appears in Process tab in task manager,... The problem is: Through form1 at runtime, i may create more instances of form1 while trying to close particular instance, the instances closed,.. but still exe appears in task manager. what i found: If i close the instances in the order what we created,.. all exe closes correctly,.. but if close the 4th instance and then 3rd instance,.. exe remains in task manager. (instead of 3rd and then 4th instance) I also used Application.Exit() but still the Exe remains in taskmanager,......

  Hi, I have a SingletonClass, which has only one instance. I want to expand it and add to it a category (MoreFeatures). I created a source SingletonClass+MoreFeatures, which interface/implementation looks like that: @interface SingletonClass (MoreFeatures) - (void) feature; @end @implementation SingletonClass (MoreFeatures) - (void) feature() { } @end When I created my SingletonClass i followed the Apple's example of Singleton implementation in cocoa. This singleton resides in a project B, which is a dependency of a bigger project A. I can call for [[SingletonClass sharedInstance] foo] from a source in project A and it works in case that function foo is located in SingletonClass interface/implementation. When I try to call [[SingletonClass sharedInstance] feature] from a source in project A, I get a crash, which says that there is no method feature for class SingletonClass... Why it happens? • Can't Instantiate Windsor Custom Component Activator

  Hi, I'm getting an exception calling Resolve: KernelException: Could not instantiate custom activator Inner Exception: {"Constructor on type 'MyProj.MyAdapter`1[[MyProj.MyBusinessObject, MyAsm, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null]]' not found."} There's definitely a public parameterless constructor there (and I've verified this using reflection at runtime)...so I figure the problem might have to do with the fact that it's generic? I've tried getting the component model object and setting RequiresGenericArguments to true, but that hasn't gotten me anywhere. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

• Is it possible to use DLR in a .NET 3.5 website project?

  I'm trying to evaluate an expression stored in a database i.e. "if (Q1 ==2) {result = 3.1;} elseif (Q1 ==3){result=4.1;} else result = 5.9;" Rather than parsing it myself I'm trying to use the DLR. I'm using version .92 from the Codeplex repository and my solution is a .NET 3.5 website; and I'm having conflicts between the System.Core and Microsoft.Scripting.ExtenstionAttribute .dll's. Error = { Description: "'ExtensionAttribute' is ambiguous in the namespace 'System.Runtime.CompilerServices'.", File: "InternalXmlHelper.vb" } At this time I cannot upgrade to .NET 4.0 and make significant use of the .net 3.5 features (so downgrading is not an option). Any help greatly appreciated.

• Killing COM object from C#

  I have a COM object that we are calling from C#. This works great, and I have my own pool of objects that I can use whenever I want. Now I need to kill the object. I've tried releasing the COM object explicitly and then garbage collecting from another thread, but that does nothing. Does anyone have any other ideas to kill this object? Thanks for the help. • How can I enable MySQL's slow query log without restarting MySQL?

  I followed the instructions here: http://crazytoon.com/2007/07/23/mysql-changing-runtime-variables-with-out-restarting-mysql-server/ but that seems to only set the threshold. Do I need to do anything else like set the filepath? According to MySQL's docs If no file_name value is given for --log-slow-queries, the default name is host_name-slow.log. The server creates the file in the data directory unless an absolute path name is given to specify a different directory. Running SHOW VARIABLES doesn't indicate any log file path and I don't see any slow query log file on my server...

• How to call another PHP script from a PHP script?

  Hello, I have a PHP script that has a runtime of 34 seconds. But it dies after 30 seconds. I guess my webhost a time limit of 30 seconds. I am thinking of splitting the script into two parts say PHP-1 and PHP-2. Can I call PHP-2 from PHP-1 and kill PHP-1? Both scripts have to run in sequence, so calling both of them using cron is not possible. [ My host provides cron with interval 5 mins and does not allow to change the start time] -Will this circumvent the time limit set by host?
