• Gmail for Googleapps mail delivery issues

  I have a google apps domain running gmail. One of the owners of one of the email accounts is complaining that some emails don't get delivered to him. I sent him an email that did not get to its destination on one hand but I got no NDR on the other hand. I have already checked that the email was not on in his spam folder. The only thing that he has there is a forwarding rule that is also set up to leave the original in place. I am looking for any tools or ideas on how to debug this.

• Grant relay to servers based on AD security group membership

  We're moving our relay from an Exchange 2003 server to an Exchange 2010 server. I was hoping the "Grant or deny relay permissions to specific users or groups" option would still be available in some form, but I can't find out how to do it. I've read up on recieve connectors and so far I can't get it to work. I have edited the security on the Recieve Connector to allow the following extended rights to the group and added computer accounts to that group: Accept Routing Headers Bypass Anti-spam Submit to Server Accept any Sender Accept any Recipient Then I suddenly realised while testing... How would the receive connector resolve the permission to a particular AD object, maybe a reverse DNS lookup? What I'd like to know is if what I'm trying to achieve is possible, and how it would be possible. I would rather not revert to an IP-based list as this is not as manageable, and I'm trying to avoid creating static IPs/reservations for a number of workstations that would otherwise not need them.

• Blocked connections passing through firewall. What is wrong?

  In our company we have a small business router (Cisco RV082) on which we are using its standard configuration (block all incoming traffic). We also have an SMTP relay configured (using WS2008R2) so that our internal applications can send email through google apps (which requires authentication). The thing is that the server was being used to send spam. We fixed the problem by only allowing the server to relay email from our internal IP address range (10.0.0.0/16). My concern is that there was a way by which external IPs connected to the network and that underlying problem has not been fixed, but I cannot imagine how these machines connected. Any thoughts?

  I have linux apache mysql and php server. My website uses the php mail() function and the server's postfix server to email other people. I successfully installed SPF and DKIM on my server to reduce the likelihood of my website's email-outs from ending up in people's spam boxes. In my research, I stumbled on Domain Keys which seems to be a "historical" version of DKIM. Do the big web mail services like Google, Yahoo and Hotmail still use Domain Keys? If not, then maybe I don't need to install it?

  After making my server sign outgoing email I started to wonder what the benefits are. This is the opposite of a previously asked question. Naively I see two benefits: We can throw away all emails which don’t carry a valid signature: Wrong! Mail forwarders (like Mailman) will produce emails from someone at «domain which signs» which are not signed correctly (in their forwarded shape). We can skip spam checking on signed email: Wrong! A spammer can send a single email through e.g. gmail.com and then resend that email as-is (w/o changing headers) to a million people. So what are the selling points of DKIM?

  Riddle me this: You have 3 part numbers with the same part name xyz, each with a quantity of 10 items. The items can be picked during the day or week, therefore changing the amount of items on hand. I know I need to use the group by, sort, count and perhaps sumif formulas to have a running count of the number of items on hand at the end of each day (which could be positive or negative). • Steps to make sure network is not blacklisted...Again

  I have an interesting issue. I have a client that just got blacklisted due to spam being sent out over the last 2 days. I have my firewall configured to only allow mail to go outbound on port 25 from our mail server (Exchange 2010) exclusively and I have verified that there are no open relay's on our transport rules. We are running Vipre Business and after running deep scans with updated definitions all computers come back clean. I ran a message tracking report on our Exchange server that shows all mail sent via the mail server over the last couple of weeks and didn't see anything malicious or out of the ordinary. I have also verified that there are no home devices or rouge computers on the network. For all practical purposes it appears that the network is clean, but we still wound up on 5 or 6 blacklists...Where should I start looking next? Is there a "best practices" guide that can help eradicate this issue? Thanks in advance! msindle

• Lots of spambot registrations on PHPBB forum

  We have a PHPBB forum running for a few years with admin approval of newly registred users. New users can not post on the forum untill we approve their new account. So I get an e-mail for every new registration, and sometimes there are spambot registrations amongst them. But untill yesterday this was only a few a year, but overnight I got 32 (!) new registrations and they keep rolling in every 15 minutes or so. I run the latest PHPBB version and spambot countermeasures are on. We first had the ReCaptcha option, but that didn't work well. Then we changed it to a Q&A version and that worked. I changed the question an hour ago, but the new spam registrations keep happening, whatever I do. Help!

  I realize that this is a subjective question, but I'm trying to get some experiences We have Juniper firewalls in our organization (SSG-320M, SSG-5, and some old NS-5GT). We have the option of a yearly subscription for: Deep Inspection Signature Updates Juniper-Kaspersky Antivirus I seem similar services available from other Firewall vendors. We have Symantec Endpoint Protection deployed to all workstations and servers, plus a dedicated appliance for e-mail spam/virus filtering. So, I'm not sure what these firewall-base services will bring to the table that I don't already have. I would appreciate some feedback from people using these firewall services (Juniper or otherwise). Are these services generally worth it? Do they really catch anything? Do they interfere with normal traffic (false positives)?

(This mail server requires authentication when attempting to send to a non-local e-mail address) but from yesterday , without change any setting I got many Message Delivery Delay from mail server for email address that I never try to sending email: I afraid that I someone try to sending Spam from my mail server,How can I check this possiblity ? and fix the problem. Thanks MailEnable: Message delivery has been delayed. Message is waiting at *.info for delivery to mailin-03.mx.aol.com. The message will be retried for another 29 hours. Reason: Mail Server for aol.com could not accept your email at this time. MailEnable will keep trying to deliver this message and will notify you of any progress.   So I've managed to setup bind9 and a mail server, but it seems there is something wrong. I don't quite under stand this error: The configuration of your mail servers and your DNS are not ok! The report of the test is: mail.domain.com. - mail.domain.com - 208.xxx.xxx.xxx - lisa.domain.com Spam recognition software and RFC821 4.3 (also RFC2821 4.3.1) state that the hostname given in the SMTP greeting MUST have an A record pointing back to the same server. Can anyone explain this to me in a bit more detail, and maybe point me in a direction to solve this?

  I know this question has been asked on various forums before, and that all the answer were negative, but many of the answers are quite old, and with Azure developing so quickly it seems useful to ask it again. Can we run a mail server (such as mailenable) on an Azure VM? And if not, why not? I've seen one posting on the MS forums (here) that suggests the IP of the Azure machine would be blacklisted as a source of spam. Why would this be (as opposed to hosting a mailserver on a dedicated box)?

So far I added to my .htaccess-file: # block doamins and all subdomains Deny from .example.org # block domainrange: 1.2.3.[1-255] Deny from 1.2.3. # Block single IP Deny from 2.3.4.5 but still I had problems with spam from e.g. server1.example.org. What is wrong with my script? Is it also possible to redirect all requests from certain hosts/IPs to a document (say: info.html)?

• Why doesn't tmux respond to shortcuts properly?

  I'm using OSX 10.8.1 in combination with iTerm2, zsh and tmux via Homebrew. The beginning of my ~/.tmux.conf file looks like this: set -g prefix C-a unbind C-b bind-key a send-prefix set -sg escape-time 1 When I start tmux and press C-a c, nothing happens. When I spam C-a c fast enough then some new tabs open up, but not the equivalent count of my command spaming. When I press C-a first followed by c, nothing happens again. Is there a delay issue or what's up with my tmux installation/configuration?

• Is there a lightweight MTA for Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop?

  I'm writing a Perl script to run as a cron job, and I want to email results & errors to a local account on the laptop. I'd like something that can talk SMTP (do any MTAs not adhere to SMTP?). I use Thunderbird 3, so I'll also need a POP/IMAP server (unless T-Bird can read straight from an mbox file; I'll have to check into that). No need for spam controls as I'll lock it down real tight, only accepting mail originating from the laptop itself. Thanks!

  Hey guys, recently I just installed msmtp in linux and I even send a mail from the terminal and it worked: echo -e "Subject: Test Mail\r\n\r\nThis is a test mail" |msmtp --debug --from=default -t [email protected] But in php, after editing the php.ini file to have this: sendmail_path = '/usr/bin/msmtp -t' and using this piece of code: <?php if ( mail ( '[email protected]', 'Test mail from localhost', 'Working Fine.' ) ){ echo 'Mail sent'; } else{ echo 'Error. Please check error log.'; } ?> I get the Mail sent message but don't receive a message in my inbox. Not even in the spam folder. Anything wrong I'm doing?

• Postfix sending mail back to itself? (Ubuntu 9.10)

  I setup Dovecot and Postfix using the "Dovecot-Postfix" package with SASL and all that. The Dovecot part seems to be working fine but I'm having issues with Postfix. Whenever I send a message to another address through the postfix server, two things happen. the message never gets to the other address (even when I request a delivery notification, it says that it's been delivered but it's not in the spam box in the other inbox or anything) The message comes back to my inbox through Dovecot as though I sent it to myself internally. e.g. I send an email through my postfix server to my gmail account, 10 minutes later nothing shows up in my gmail account but the message comes back to me as though I was sending it to my internal address (with no errors) Any ideas?

• Troubleshooting "connection reset" error on my linux server

  I fervently hope someone here can help me with the problem I am experiencing. I am a programmer, and I have very little understanding of linux sysadmin terminology/concepts. I am attempting to troubleshoot a problem with my website. It is a Facebook app, and whenever I try to connect using Chrome, I get an error stating that the "connection was reset". I have been Googling for four days straight trying to find a solution to this problem, but no joy. A big part of the problem is that I do not understand the terminology being employed, and the output from many of the tools referenced is likewise indecipherable to me. I am running a VPS with CentOS 5, apache, PHP, and MySQL. I could spam this post with a ton of information from my iptables, apache, etc but if anyone needs information from my server, please let me know how to get it, and I will post it here. With that I wasn't able to send emails in bulk in cases like "newsletters" and "invitations to join my site". • Blackberry keeps sending notifications of FB and emails [closed]

  Here is the problem I got with my blackberry : I have received and sent multiple mails this week-end from my home computer. As usual, I received the notifications of sent and received emails on my blackberry, and archived / deleted them. But, I still receive the notifications of new mails several times a day, for emails I already have deleted in my Gmail account. I tried rebooting the blackberry (alt+shift+del) and removing the battery, but nothing helps, the notifications are sent and re-sent, no matter what I do. Anyone has an advice on how to stop this spam, as it is becoming very annoying ?

• User account automatically filling up with dead.letter file

  I have one user account on a server with about 400 accounts that is filling up automatically. The dead.letter file in the users home directory automatically grows until the account is full (about 10 - 40 Mb per day). The user is using Microsoft Outlook to send and receive mail. What can be causing this and how can I avoid it from happening? Right now I have an emergency cron-job to delete the file but I would like "real" solution. Edit: The server version is Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 4) Edit 2: It seems mainly spam and I see different mailer headings (from php to Outlook Express) and a frequent appearing header is [email protected] Update: I have asked the hosting provider where I use that dedicated server to look into the problem as well, as it's their Control Panel that could be a cause of the problem.
