  • Do encryption algorithms provide really unique results?

    - by Mikulas Dite
I was wondering whether md5, sha1 and anothers return unique values. For example, sha1() for test returns a94a8fe5ccb19ba61c4c0873d391e987982fbbd3, which is 40 characters long. So, sha1 for strings larger than 40 chars must be the same (of course it's scrambled, because the given input may contain whitespaces and special chars etc.). Due to this, when we are storing users' passwords, they can enter either their original password or some super-long one, which nobody knows. Is this right, or do these hash algorithms provide really unique results - I'm quite sure it's hardly possible.

  • using itext how to extracta string in java

    - by user2455183
    I am finding the string in between 123 and 321 and making it as bold. For that I used the Pattern to get the string before 123, text between 123 and 321 and text after 321. Could anyone please help me get all the strings between 123 and 321. Pattern p = Pattern.compile("^.*?(123)"); Matcher m = p.matcher(meredithEditorialSectionSegment); while (m.find()) { String desc = m.group(); String segDesc = (desc.substring(0, desc.length() - 3)); segmentDesc.add(new Chunk(segDesc, sectionDescriptionFont)); } descBold = meredithEditorialSectionSegment.substring(meredithEditorialSectionSegment.indexOf("123") + 3); descBold = descBold.substring(0, descBold.indexOf("321")); segmentDesc.add(new Chunk(descBold, sectionDescriptionBoldFont)); Matcher matcher = Pattern.compile("(?<=321).*").matcher(meredithEditorialSectionSegment); matcher.find(); segmentDesc.add(new Chunk(matcher.group(), sectionDescriptionFont));

  • Difference of answers while using split function in Ruby

    - by N L
Given the following inputs: line1 = "Hey | Hello | Good | Morning" line2 = "Hey , Hello , Good , Morning" file1=length1=name1=title1=nil Using ',' to split the string as follows: file1, length1, name1, title1 = line2.split(/,\s*/) I get the following output: puts file1,length1,name1,title1 >Hey >Hello >Good >Morning However, using '|' to split the string I receive a different output: file1, length1, name1, title1 = line2.split(/|\s*/) puts file1,length1,name1,title1 >H >e >y Both the strings are same except the separating symbol (a comma in first case and a pipe in second case). The format of the split function I am using is also the same except, of course, for the delimiting character. What causes this variation?

  • Where to find .NET version usage statistics?

    - by Mash
There are some technologies like LINQ and WPF which are nice, but installation of .NET 3.5 is still slow procedure. It's important to understand - among Windows users how many of them have .NET 3.5 installed? Is there any good up to date stats gathered about .NET Version availability/usage? I've searched a lot, but can't find. Update: .NET version IS present in web-agent strings for FF and IE at least. So there SHOULD be somebody who have that information. Anyone with access to really large web-site logs? Update 2: I also understand Vista means that user have 3.5, but XP is still dominating the market.

  • Linq GroupBy - how to specify the grouping key at runtime?

    - by toasteroven
is there a good way to do a Linq GroupBy where the grouping key is determined at runtime? e.g. I want the grouping key to be built from a user-selected list of fields - can you do this? I know I can do it easily if I convert everything to a table of strings, but I was wondering if there was an elegant or clever way to accomplish this otherwise. class Item { public int A, B; public DateTime D; public double X, Y, Z; } I have a List<Item> called data. I want to do things like retrieve the sum of X grouped by A, or the sums of X, Y, and Z, grouped by A and B. but what fields go into the grouping should be able to be specified at runtime in some way.

  • In scala can I pass repeated parameters to other methods?

    - by Fred Haslam
Here is something I can do in java, take the results of a repeated parameter and pass it to another method: public void foo(String ... args){bar(args);} public void bar(String ... args){System.out.println("count="+args.length);} In scala it would look like this: def foo(args:String*) = bar(args) def bar(args:String*) = println("count="+args.length) But this won't compile, the bar signature expects a series of individual strings, and the args passed in is some non-string structure. For now I'm just passing around arrays. It would be very nice to use starred parameters. Is there some way to do it?

  • python writing a list to a file

    - by gfar90
I need to write a list to a file in python. I know the list should be converted to a string with the join method, but since I have a tuple I got confused. I tried a lot to change my variables to strings etc, this is one of my first attempts: def perform(text): repository = [("","")] fdist = nltk.FreqDist(some_variable) for c in some_variable: repository.append((c, fdist[c])) return ' '.join(repository) but it gives me the following error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "", line 1, in qe = perform(entfile2) File "", line 14, in perform return ' '.join(repository) TypeError: sequence item 0: expected string, tuple found any ideas how to write the list 'repository' to a file? Thanks!

  • Reading in a file - Warning Message in R

    - by Sheila
I have a file that has 22268 rows BY 2521 columns. When I try to read in the file using this line of code: file <- read.table(textfile, skip=2, header=TRUE, sep="\t", fill=TRUE, blank.lines.skip=FALSE) I get the following error: Warning message: In scan(file, what, nmax, sep, dec, quote, skip, nlines, na.strings, : number of items read is not a multiple of the number of columns I also used this command to see what rows had an incorrect number of columns: x <-count.fields("train.gct", sep="\t", skip=2) which(x != 2521) and got back a list of about 20 rows that were incorrect. Is there a way to fill these rows with NA values? I thought that is what the "fill" parameter does in the read.table function, but it doesn't appear so. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Working with Foreign languages

    - by Matt
My DB needs to hold strings containing foreign language characters such that; User enters string into form, form submitted and string added to DB, string will be displayed on page for viewing. I would like to use UTF8 as this will be able to handle all of the required languages. Currently I believe my DB is set to 'latin1' but webpages are capable of displaying correct charachters anyways. Problems arise when trying to set textareas to hold foreign charachters and when viewing DB via command-line. How can I implement this most effectively? My plan was to blitz the whole site such that:DB Charset is UTF8 and web pages charset is UTF8. Could someone give me the minimal commands on how to do this so I don't end up duplicating things (Having "UTF8" commands everywhere when I really just need one) and making things too difficult to control. Newbie Thanks

  • How detect length of a numpy array with only one element?

    - by mishaF
I am reading in a file using numpy.genfromtxt which brings in columns of both strings and numeric values. One thing I need to do is detect the length of the input. This is all fine provided there are more than one value read into each array. But...if there is only one element in the resulting array, the logic fails. I can recreate an example here: import numpy as np a = np.array(2.3) len(a) returns an error saying: TypeError: len() of unsized object however, If a has 2 or more elements, len() behaves as one would expect. import numpy as np a = np.array([2.3,3.6]) len(a) returns 2 My concern here is, if I use some strange exception handling, I can't distinguish between a being empty and a having length = 1.

  • Updating .net 4.0 machine.config seems to have no effect

    - by Jon P
I'm feeling stupid. I've just created my first ASP.net 4.0 site after working my way though over the years from 1.1 upwards. We have several settings at the machine.config level that I need to migrate to the new 4.0 machine.config. I though I had be adding the required connection strings to the connection string section of the following two files: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\machine.config C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\machine.config When I created a new website in IIS and assigned it to the ASP.net 4.0 Application pool I only get the default LocalSqlServer connection string. I tried editing the name of this in the two files above to indicate which file it was in, but there was no change. Are there machine.config files in other locations I should be looking at?

  • What is/are the Scala way(s) to implement this Java "byte[] to Hex" class

    - by nicerobot
I'm specifically interested in Scala (2.8) techniques for building strings with formats as well as interesting ways to make such a capability easily accessible where it's useful (lists of bytes, String, ...?).. public class Hex { public static String valueOf (final byte buf[]) { if (null == buf) { return null; } final StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(buf.length * 2); for (final byte b : buf) { sb.append(String.format("%02X", b & 0xff)); } return sb.toString(); } public static String valueOf (final Byteable o) { return valueOf(o.toByteArray()); } } This is only a learning exercise (so the utility and implementation of the Java isn't a concern.) Thanks

  • Taxonomy terms are not translated in an exposed filters block

    - by Daj pan spokój
Hi, in my view's exposed filters block the taxonomy terms are showed only in the original language version (in English). Vocabulary is set to Localize terms. The terms are translated via Translation Table. All the other content (Views, nodes, translated strings etc.) is showed correctly (in German). I'd expect them to appear in current language, however. Here for instance, I'd expect to have German Sommer 10 instead of English Summer 10. Do You have any idea how to solve it? I use Drupal 6 and Views 2.10

  • Pulling international street addresses / phone numbers from free-form text

    - by spitzanator
Hey, folks. I'm looking for some regular expressions to help grab street addresses and phone numbers from free-form text (a la Gmail). Given some text: "John, I went to the store today, and it was awesome! Did you hear that they moved to 500 Green St.? ... Give me a call at +14252425424 when you get a chance." I'd like to be able to pull out: 500 Green St. (recognized as a street address) +14252425424 (recognized as a phone number) What makes this problem easier is that I don't care about parsing text that gets pulled out. That is, I don't care that Green is the name of the road or that 425 is the area code. I just want to grab strings that "look like" addresses or telephone numbers. Unfortunately, this needs to work internationally, as best as possible. Anyone have any leads? Thanks!

  • Passing a String from PHP to a JavaScript function

    - by user635614

  • String loops in Python

    - by Steve Hunter
I have two pools of strings and I would like to do a loop over both. For example, if I want to put two labeled apples in one plate I'll write: basket1 = ['apple#1', 'apple#2', 'apple#3', 'apple#4'] for fruit1 in basket1: basket2 = ['apple#1', 'apple#2', 'apple#3', 'apple#4'] for fruit2 in basket2: if fruit1 == fruit2: print 'Oops!' else: print "New Plate = %s and %s" % (fruit1, fruit2) However, I don't want order to matter -- for example I am considering apple#1-apple#2 equivalent to apple#2-apple#1. What's the easiest way to code this? I'm thinking about making a counter in the second loop to track the second basket and not starting from the point-zero in the second loop every time.

  • Unicode generated by toEscapedUnicode method is without spaces

    - by vishvesha
For this word ????????????? the Unicode is== \u0938\u0941\u0916\u091A\u0948\u0928\u093E\u0928\u0940 \u0930\u0940\u091D\u0941\u092E\u0932 \u091C\u093F\u0935\u0924\u0930\u093E\u092E and look it has spaces before \u0930 and \u091C But when I am trying in my code String tempString=Strings.toEscapedUnicode(strString); This method to convert to Unicode gives a result without spaces: \u0938\u0941\u0916\u091A\u0948\u0928\u093E\u0928\u0940\u0930\u0940\u091D\u0941\u092E\u0932\u091C\u093F\u0935\u0924\u0930\u093E\u092E and that's why they are not matching. My 'toEscapeUnicode' method generates Unicode without spaces. I want the spaces, so how to do it?

  • Regular Expression

    - by equilibrium
Ohh! this regular expression thing is eating my brain up. I have been reading it from Introduction to Automata Theory, Languages and Computer by Hopcroft, Motwani and Ullman. I have solved a few exercises too but could not solve the following even after trying for almost one hr. The problem is to write a regular expression that defines a language consisting of all strings of 0s and 1s except the substring 011. Is the answer (0+1)* - 011 correct ? If not what should be the correct answer for this?

  • How can I print a text in two columns using Java Swing?

    - by Jonas
I have a longer text saved in a String. I would like to print the text in two columns on a single page. How can I do this using Java Swing? I don't understand how I can wrap the text when it's time to use a new line. I have read Lesson: Printing in the Java tutorial, but I haven't found any useful methods for working with text or Strings except FontMetrics. Is there any good methods in the Java API for this or is there any good library I can use for this?

  • Regex for template tag with attributes

    - by Funkmyer
Hi, I haven't found my answer after reading through all of these posts, so I'm hoping one of you heavy hitter regex folks can help me out. I'm trying to isolate the tag name and any attributes from the following string format: {TAG:TYPE attr1="foo" attr2="bar" attr3="zing" attr4="zang" attr5="zoom" ...} NOTE: in the above example, TAG will always be the same and TYPE will be one of several preset strings (e.g. share, print, display etc...). TAG and TYPE are uppercased only for the example but will not be case sensitive for real.

  • Manipulating Directory Paths in Python

    - by G Ullman
Basically I've got this current url and this other key that I want to merge into a new url, but there are three different cases. Suppose the current url is localhost:32401/A/B/foo if key is bar then I want to return localhost:32401/A/B/bar if key starts with a slash and is /A/bar then I want to return localhost:32401/A/bar finally if key is its own independent url then I just want to return that key = htt p://foo.com/bar - http://foo.com/bar I assume there is a way to do at least the first two cases without manipulating the strings manually, but nothing jumped out at me immediately in the os.path module.
