  • Video editing language

    Hi folks, My next project will be all about language tools, parsing and such. Because of that reason I've decided to write a simple language which can be used for video editing. So instead of those desktop applications (Sony vegas, Adobe Premiere, ..) it's basically a language where you define the effects and all and it will generate a video for you. Since I've got no experience in this kind of business I need some help. The goal of the project is to create a simple language which is able to do some basic things (such as text fading in, etc). I am looking for articles/projects/blogs/whatever related with this which could help me writing this language. (Note that I don't need articles about language parsing since I'm pretty familar with that, just the video editing part). Thanks, William v. Doorn

  • Parsing and validating arbitrary date formats in ruby (on rails)

    I have a requirement to handle custom date formats in an existing app. The idea is that the users have to do with multiple formats from outside sources they have very little control over. We will need to be able to take the format and both validate Dates against it, as well as parse strings specifically in that format. The other thing is that these can be completely arbitrary, like JA == January, FE == February, etc... to my understanding, chronic only handles parsing (and does it in a more magical way then I can use), and enter code here DateTime#strptime comes close, but doesn't really handle the whole two character month scenario, even with custom formatters. The 'nuclear' option is to write in custom support for edge cases like this, but I would prefer to use a library if something like this exists.

  • golang dynamically parsing files

    For parsing files i have setup a variable for template.ParseFiles and i currently have to manually set each file. Two things: How would i be able to walk through a main folder and a multitude of subfolders and automatically add them to ParseFiles so i dont have to manually add each file individually?     Say you were to create a search engine that can accept a query statement under the form of a String. The statement can be used to retrieve different types of objects with a given set of characteristics and possibly linked to other objects. In plain english or pseudo-code using an OOP approach, how would you go about parsing and processing statements as follows to get the series of desired objects ? get fruit with colour green get variety of apples, pears from Andy get strawberry with colour "deep red" and origin not Spain get total of sales of melons between 2010-10-10 and 2010-12-30 get last deliverydate of bananas from "Pete" and state not sold Hope the question is clear.   • App-Engine Parse a UrlFetch UTF-8 encoded stream

    I am trying to parse an XML from a URL using the xml.sax parser. I know there are other libraries to use but coming from Java this is the one I am most familiar with and seems the least complicated to me. The code I'm using to parse is as follows: parser = xml.sax.make_parser() handler = MangaHandler() parser.setContentHandler(handler) url = urlfetch.Fetch('http://www.mangapanda.com/alphabetical', allow_truncated = False, follow_redirects = False, deadline = False) xml.sax.parseString(url.content, handler) This returns a SaxException (invalid token) once the parser reaches the first & sign: SAXParseException: <unknown>:582:34: not well-formed (invalid token) Because urlfetch returns a string and not a stream I cannot use the parse() (which only works with streams) and am left to use parseString() instead. To see if parsing as a stream would fix this I tried: parser.parse(io.StringIO(url.content).encode('utf-8')) but this returns: TypeError: initial_value must be unicode or None, not str I have also tried to use the urllib2 libraries which do return a stream instead of urlfetch but the file is too large and is automatically truncated, leaving me with missing data. Any Sort of work-around for this would be greatly appreciated as I've spent days getting around one obstacle just to be stopped by another.

    Hello, I'm learning to use LINQ. I have seen some videos online that have really impressed me. In an effort to learn LINQ myself, I decided to try to write a query to the NOAA web service. If you put "http://www.weather.gov/forecasts/xml/sample_products/browser_interface/ndfdBrowserClientByDay.php?zipCodeList=20001&format=24+hourly&startDate=2010-06-10&numDays=5" in your browser's address bar, you will see some XML. I have successfully retrieved that XML in a C# program. I am loading the XML into a LINQable entity by doing the following: string xml = QueryWeatherService(); XDocument weather = XDocument.Parse(xml); I have a class called DailyForecast defined as follows: public class DailyForecast { public float HighTemperature { get; set; } public float LowTemperature { get; set; } public float PrecipitationPossibility { get; set; } public string WeatherSummary { get; set; } } I'm trying write a LINQ query that adheres to the structure of my DailyForecast class. At this time, I've only gotten to this far: var results = from day in response.Descendants("parameters") select day; Not very far I know. Because of the structure of the XML returned, I'm not sure it is possible to solely use a LINQ query. I think the only way to do this is via a loop and traverse the XML. I'm seeking someone to correct me if I'm wrong. Can someone please tell me if I can get results using purely LINQ that adhere to the structure of the DailyForecast class? If so, how? Thank you!

  • Prevent <xsi:nil="true"> on Nullable Value Types when Serializing to XML.

    I have added some nullable value types to my serializable class. I perform a serialization using XmlSerializer but when the value is set to null, I get an empty node with xsi:nil="true". This is the correct behaviour as I have found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ybce7f69%28VS.80%29.aspx Is there a way to switch off this option so that nothing is output when the value type is null?

    I fount this answer, but wanted to expand on the question and couldn't find any solutions here on stack or through searching google. Substring domainname from URL SQL Basically the link above solves my problem with a simple URL like parsing "www.google.com" with the result of google. What I am looking for to expand on that is the solution from the link above doesn't help with url's like 'www.maps.google.com' that just returns maps. WHat I would like is to have it return 'google' from the url 'www.maps.google.com' or return 'example' from 'www.test.example.com'. If anyone has a solution to this, I would greatly appreciate it. Update: To be more specific I will also need parsing on second level domains etc. 'www.maps.google.com.au' to return 'google' Here is my Sql function.     The Android documentation tells me that I can access a string from another package by using the "package name", whatever that means: @[<package_name>:]<resource_type>/<resource_name> So in my manifest I want to access a string that I've placed in a separate library project, in the com.globalmentor.android package---that's where my R class is, after all: <activity android:label="@com.globalmentor.android:string/app_applicationlistactivity_label" android:name="com.globalmentor.android.app.ApplicationListActivity" > </activity> That doesn't even compile. But this does: <activity android:label="@string/app_applicationlistactivity_label" android:name="com.globalmentor.android.app.ApplicationListActivity" > </activity> Why? What does the Android documentation mean which it talks about the "package_name"? Why doesn't the first example work, and why does the second example work? I don't want all my resource names merged into the same R file---I want them partitioned into packages, like I wrote them.

    I am using the SAX parser in java. I am not sure: 1) What classes I need for this kind of situation?   • JSONP parsing error from WCF

    Answered my own question I had a problem with a jquery (jsonp) call to a WCF service that was throwing a json parsing error. Using ASP.NET 4.0 on the WCF side and jquery 1.7 on the client side. Turned out there was an old set of script tags on the page using language = VBSCRIPT. The browser was interpreting the returned json packet of script as "VBscript" instead of javascript. I placed a set of empty javascript tags at the top of the page and the browser is now interpreting the json as the proper javascript function. Hope this helps someone else. Tom
