    Given a Windows domain, with DNS provided by a server on that domain, I am curious about what happens if a guest joins the network attempting to use the same hostname as an existing server, and then tries to register that hostname in DNS with its DHCP address. Can this potentially be disruptive to the server, or is Windows DNS smart enough to spot a duplicate hostname and deny an auto-register request from that host? What actions can be taken to ensure that DNS for a hostname cannot be altered?

  • Accessing guests on virtual network when connected to host via PPTP

    I'm setting up a development machine which runs Ubuntu 12.04 and KVM for virtualization. I have a guest running Ubuntu 12.04 which can be accessed from the host via its IP address which is assigned by libvirt. The guest can also access the internet, no problem there. However, now I want to setup PPTP so I can connect to the host (from my workstation running Windows 7) and directly access guests without relying on SSH port forwarding. I can connect from my W7-machine to the host (PPTP), but I cannot access any virtual machines (which are accessable from the host directly).     I have configured LVS on cent os using piranha tool .I am using vip of internal n/w as gateway for real server we have two NIC one having exteranl Ip and other for internal n/w which is on 192.168.3.0/24 network. But I am not able to connect from client it shows connection refused error . Please suggest iptables rules for private n public n/w to communicate. May be I am missing this .   • Full Disk Encryption for Mac (Not PGP)

    I purchased PGP Whole Disk Encryption for my Macbook Pro, and it's exactly what I need. After the Symantec acquisition, PGP no longer sells single licenses of the software so I can't purchase a second copy for my iMac. Since I can no longer buy PGP Whole Disk Encryption, can anyone suggest an alternative? I'm currently using Filevault, but I specifically want whole disk encryption. I'm using a quad-core i7 iMac running Snow Leopard and I'm also hoping to protect my Windows Bootcamp partition.

In the process I removed the saved credentials, which are just a default local login to the VM. I need to know how to set this so that the VM auto logs in with the domain account credentials used to log into the physical computer. Google hasn't helped me find the answer.

    I'm working on a solution to allow remote Linux nodes that are behind firewalls to be accessible for SSH and web server. Can anyone suggest an IPv6 tunnel scheme that would work with NAT firewalls? And what software would be needed on the remote nodes and the central server? Also I do not believe the ISP at either side does native IPv6. A solution where we could have static IPv6 addresses on the remote Linux nodes would be ideal. Thank you, Fred

    Hi I have an Amazon S3 bucket with 10,000 images sitting in it with a standard naming convention: 001_small.jpg 001_large.jpg 002_small.jpg 002_large.jpg Because there are such a large amount of files I don't want to download ALL of them and I don't want to sit there for a couple of hours to select just the *_large.jpg files... Can someone suggest an S3 file manager that can let me select only the *_large.jpg files to download?? Thanks!

    As the title reads, I'm about to download and install URL Rewrite Go Live extension on my Windows Server 2008 R2 dedicated server, and I need to find out which version of URL Rewrite I should be downloading, x64 or x86. The information that came with the server when I started to rent it said it was 64-bit but when I look at my C: directory I have two Program Files directories, one titled "Program Files" and the other "Program Files (86)" - so this has confused me somewhat. Can anybody suggest how to find this out?

Making some security testing I'd noticed than my server is returning a 200 HTTP status code of the default error page when I try to access to a non-existent element instead of return a 404 status code and redirect me to the default error page. When you enter a bad or broken link in Google Chrome, the browser takes you to a search results page with all possibly relevant links to the request attempted.     Which hard disk drive do you suggest with trustworthy SMART diagnostics? That is, a hard disk that can truthfully report sector reallocations and other pre-failure indicators. I'm asking this because I have seen quite a few hard disks with SMART support fail with no warning in the SMART diagnostics, so a hard drive that can report such problems with some degree of reliability would be much appreciated :)

Increasingly I'm getting tables having to be repaired during the backup process with the message returned of: Auto-increment value: 0 is smaller than max used value: xx Is this being caused by corruption? Are the two scripts conflicting? Any ideas?
