• Best PHP framework for jQuery?

  I've read all the answers on stackoverflow for similar questions but no one really laid down an explanation: why is zend/symfony/kohana/cakePHP the best for jQuery? what is the difference? I'm writing a snazzy ultra-cool web 2.0 app with google maps and facebook connect integration plus a bunch of other APIs. Almost everything will be AJAX vis JSON. For me PHP is a burden, an unnecessary evil. I need database control, almost always via JSON. I need user authentication. This is all. Nothing fancy. And I need it to scale. Most of all I need it to work effortlessly with jQuery, I need it to be jQuery's BFF, and I need to know why it is so. Thank you very much EDIT: The candidates right now are Yii, CodeIgniter and MongoDB.

• Can I create a dataset XSD without using the designer?

  Hi everyone, I want to be able to create the XSD file for my typed dataset without using the visual studio dataset designer. Is there a way to do this using for instance a command-line tool? There is some magic happening when a table is dragged from the server explorer to the design surface, but where does that magic come from? To add some flavour to the mix, I am using DB2 LUW 9.1, but I am guessing that the process is similar using other database vendors. • Moving from WCF RIA RC to Release: best practices?

  I have an existing WCF RIA project built on the Release Candidate; I'm now moving to the Release version & have discovered many changes. David Scruggs made the following comment on his (MSDN) blog: "If you’ve written anything in SIlverlight 4 RIA Services, you’ll need to rewrite it. There has been a lot of refactoring and namespace moves." Having made a brief attempt to compile the old solution with the new RIA framework I'm inclined to agree. My current plan is to: remove the Silverlight Business Application projects from the Solution rebuild the EF4 items from the database create a new Silverlight Business Application project re-add the files (XAML, CS) from the old Silverlight Business Application project Does this sound like a reasonable approach? I think it's cleaner than trying to manually alter the existing project.

  I found this very cool C++ sample , literally the "Hello World!" of genetic algorithms. I so decided to re-code the whole thing in C# and this is the result. Now I am asking myself: is there any practical application along the lines of generating a target string starting from a population of random strings? EDIT: my buddy on twitter just tweeted that "is useful for transcription type things such as translation. Does not have to be Monkey's". I wish I had a clue.

• ASP.net MVC: Getting a Partial View's HTML from inside of the controller

  I have developed a simple mechanism for my mvc website to pull in html via jquery which then populates a specified div. All is well and it looks cool. My problem is that i'm now creating html markup inside of my controller (Which is very easy to do in VB.net btw) I'd rather not mix up the sepparation of concerns. Is it possible to use a custom 'MVC View User Control' to suit this need? Can I create an instance of a control, pass in the model data and render to html? It would then be a simple matter of rendering and passing back to the calling browser.

  hi, i have an webserivce written where i do an insertion opertion to DB. path :http://localhost:1838/Ajax/WebService.asmx?wsdl.name of the webservice is localhost i have added webservice for the project now on button click event i try to call this webserice like this localhost obj= new localhost(); obj.insert(); now i am able to do the insertion operation fine. but i wanted to create an proxy for the webservice so wat is the use of it doing like tat? when i run this command in my command prompt in vs wsdl /out:myProxyClass.cs http://localhost:1838/Ajax/WebService.asmx?WSDL i get an error unable to connect the remote server. no connection would be made because the target machine actively refused it looking forward for an solution any help would great thank you

The simple part of it works well (articles has a list of all articles): private ObservableCollection<Article> _articles = new ObservableCollection<Article>(); [fill it with the available articles] and then: comboBoxArticles.ItemsSource = _articles.AsBindable().Where( c => c.Typ == 0 ); How can I extend the Where clause to query another table?   I have three tables, tblCompany table, tblParts table and a link table between them tblLinkCompanyParts. Since tblLinkCompanyParts is a link table so the columns that it has are LinkCompanyPartID(primary key), CompanyID from tblCompany table and PartID from tblParts as foreign keys. I have tied them up in the dbml file. In code if I write LinkCompanyParts.Parts (where LinkCompanyParts is an object of the tblLinkCompanyParts type) to get to the corresponding Part object I get the "InvalidOperationException: Sequence constains more than one element". I have looked at the data in the database and there is only one Parts record associated with the LinkCompanyPartID. The stack trace reads like at System.Linq.Enumerable.SingleOrDefault[TSource](IEnumerable`1 source) at System.Data.Linq.EntityRef`1.get_Entity() at ... I read about SingleOrDefault vs FirstOrDefault but since the link table should have a one-one mapping therefore I think SingleOrDefault should work and besides "SingleOrDefault" statement is being generated behind the scenes in the designer.cs file at the following line return this._Part.Entity; Any ideas?

  I've been working as a software developer for almost a year (not much though) in a corporate environment but all I've done so far is a raw software implementation of company needs. Senior coworkers don't seem to be doing some fairly different stuff. In fact their "benefit" for being experienced is simply an app design and getting their hands on new projects first. My elder software developer friend's jobs don't seem to differ from the overall picture. Currently I'm a student of a CS department and what I really want to bring in this world is some innovative(not new but innovative) stuff that haven't been there. Something as great as google wave or JARVIS (if that can be done at all) or even much better, but yet it looked like that's not possible. The question is: when do people in a corporate environment choose to create something innovative? (from your experience/thoughts)

  Why my "mainRegion.Activate(view);" doesn't display the view on screen? It only works if I remove the default view that registered (RegisterViewWithRegion) in ModuleInit.cs though I don't put .Activate() after I added a View. But a problem occurs if I move to other module, and get back to module which default view has been removed, I get blank page. Any clues? • How do you design a database to allow fast multicolumn searching?

  I am creating a real estate search from RETS data, but this is a general question. When you have a variety of columns that you would like the user to be able to filter their search result by, how do you optimize this? For example, http://www.charlestonrealestateguide.com/listings.php has 16 or so optional filters. Granted, he only has up to 11,000 entries (I have the same data), but I don't imagine the search is performed with just a giant WHERE AND AND AND ... clause. Or is this typically accomplished with one giant multicolumn index? Newegg, Amazon, and countless others also have cool & fast filtering systems for large amounts of data. How do they do it? And is there a database optimization reason for the tendency to provide ranges instead of empty inputs, or is that merely for user convenience?

  Hi all, I have a windows service responsible for running processes on a remote machine with capturing the output, I googled for that and read a lot of articles and threads, I found two ways: 1) using WMI for call the remote process like this example: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/EverythingInWmi02.aspx 2) using the PsExec tool by System.Diagnostic.Process class ever way of these has many problems, the WMI doesn't support returning the output and doesn't support "WaitingToExit" It just call the process and return the PId, and the PsExec couldn't capture the output programmatically by System.Diagnostic.Process in a clear way, I found only workarounds like redirect the output to a file then read the redirected file..etc, I need a real solution please

• Randomly Losing Session Variables Only In Google Chrome & URL Rewriting

  Using Google Chrome, I'm seemingly losing/corrupting session data when navigating between pages (PHP 5.0.4, Apache 2.0.54). The website works perfectly fine in IE7/8, Firefox, Safari & Opera. The issue is only with Google Chrome. I narrowed down the problem. I'm using search friendly URL's, and hiding my front controller (index.php) via a .htaccess file. So the URL looks like: www.domain.com/blah/blah/ Here's the .htaccess file contents: Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine on #allow cool urls RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*) index.php [L] #allow to have Url without index.php If I remove the .htaccess file, and expose the front controller in the URL: www.domain.com/index.php/blah/blah/, Chrome works perfectly fine. Any thoughts ideas? I'm thinking it's some kind of problem with how Chrome identifies what cookie to use and send to the server? This happens in Chrome 4 & 5. Thanks!

There is one path, that is making program in dart compiling it to javascript and then making app using Adobe air..... .But looks inefficient. so is there any other way which i am unaware of, via which i can build an android app at least.. using dart i know you can build an app, using javascript..and css+html...so i am looking for html+css+dart.   I had the following situation: main application has app.xaml, which sets the style for TextBox controls a custom control is implemented in a separate DLL, and uses several TextBox controls The main application's TextBox style is applied to the custom control's TextBox controls. Cool! My problem comes in because I need to use a class derived from TextBox in the custom control. Now the main app's TextBox style is no longer applied. Can the custom control DLL have something like "app.xaml" where I can set the style for all my derived TextBox controls? Or can the main application somehow set the style for all TextBox-derived classes? Thanks!

  Hi there, I'm studying for my final exams in my CS major on the subject distributed systems and operating systems. I'm in the need for a good definition for the terms task, process and threads. So far I'm confident that a process is the representation of running (or suspended, but initiated) program with its own memory, program counter, registers, stack, etc (process control block). Processes can run threads which share memory, so that communication via shared memory is possible in contrast to processes which have to communicate via IPC. But what's the difference between tasks and process. I often read that they're interchangable and that the term task isn't used anymore. Is that really true?

• Ignoring generated files when using "Treat warnings as errors"

  We have started a new project but also have this problem for an existing project. The problem is that when we compile with a warning level of 4 we also want to switch on 'Treat all warnings as errors' We are unable to do this at the moment because generated files (in particular reference.cs files) are missing things like XML comments and this generates a warning, we do not want to suppress the xml comment warnings totally out of all files just for specific types of files (namely generated code). I have thought of a way this could be achieved but am not sure if these are the best way to do this or indeed where to start :) My thinking is that we need to do something with T4 templates for the code that is generated such that it does fill in XML documentation for generated code. Does anyone have any ideas, currently I'm at well over 2k warnings (its a big project) :(

  I cannot figure out how to get rid of errors that basically should not be halting my compile in VS 2010 and should not be show stoppers, or at least I will fix them later but I don't want the compile to just error and halt on these kinds of problems.
