• Determine which mouse was clicked (multiple mice devices) in .NET

  Hi, I want to detect when my touchpad is clicked! I normally use a usb mouse, so I don't use the touchpad for anything. Instead I'd like to make it possible to perform an action in .NET, when the touchpad is clicked. This way I can use it as a shortcut: One tap and something cool happens. Is this possible, and if yes, any clue how? I'd prefer if it could be working in VB.NET or C#. My theory is that I'd have to make a mousehook, which then somehow determines which device the click is coming from. If the click is determined to be from the touchpad, then cancel the click and doWhatever(). Thanks!

• Python Closures Example Code

  I am learning Python using "Dive Into Python 3" book. I like it, but I don't understand the example used to introduce Closures in Section 6.5. I mean, I see how it works, and I think it's really cool. But I don't see any real benefit: it seems to me the same result could be achieved by simply reading in the rules file line by line in a loop, and doing search / replace for each line read. Could someone help me to: either understand why using closures in this example improves the code (e.g., easier to maintain, extend, reuse, or debug?) or suggest a source of some other real-life code examples where closures really shine?   So there's this new cool thing, these NoSQL-databases. And so there's my data: Rows of rows of rows of meteorological data: Values, representing certain measurements at a certain station (Identified by a WMO number, not coordinates), at a certain time. Not every station measures every parameter, not every parameter is measured all the time. I store this data (30 years worth of hourly values, resulting in ~1 billion values) currently in MySQL. The continous growth and the forseeable addition of even more data give me a little headache. Reading about the document based NoSQL systems which seem to scale rather easily, I was wondering if NoSQL is a viable data storage concept for meteorological data too. Do you have any experience with this?

• Monitoring outgoing internet traffic

  Is there a way to monitoring internet traffic programatically? I would like to log the pages users are visiting on the Internet. Can this be achieved with .NET code, is there a 3rd party .NET component that could be used to retrieved data. Information about Internet traffic must be stored to a database so I cannot use a plugin or something for IE. We are also looking to include this code into our existing product so we cannot use a 3rd party product that cannot be redistributed. It would be cool if this thing could monitor traffic for all browsers but monitoring IE traffic might also be sufficient.

  My situation is Using .NET 3.5 Using SDL.NET Need to make a friendly installer or warning system. Chances are the user will be on XP (.NET 1.1). If possible can i do something to let the user know he needs to update to 3.5? Maybe have a yes/no dialog which downloads and install the .NET runtimes for him? Now how do i detect if the user has sdl.net installed (chances are its in program files/sdldotnet) and let them know they need sdl.net runtime and have a yes/no dialog that brings them to http://sourceforge.net/projects/cs-sdl/files/ The problem i have mostly is how to make the app not outright crash and how to download 3.5 .NET runtime if it is possible.

  In Delphi 2007 and later, the global variable UseLatestCommonDialogs causes TOpenDialog to use the new Vista-style dialog on Windows Vista and 7. That's cool. Unfortunately, the Vista-style dialog does not seem to support the ofHideReadOnly option of TOpenDialog. The read-only checkbox never appears regardless whether this option is set to True or False. How can I make TOpenDialog show a read-only checkbox on the Vista-style dialog? TOpenTextFileDialog adds a combo box to the dialog regardless of whether it's Vista-style or not. It should be possible to add a read-only checkbox in the same way, but I can't figure out how to do it, even when looking at the source for TOpenTextFileDialog.

• How do I mock a custom field that is deleted so that south migrations run?

  I have removed an app that contained a couple of custom fields from my project. Now when I try to run my migrations I get ImportError, naturally. These fields were very basic customizations like below: from django.db.models.fields import IntegerField class SomeField(IntegerField): def get_internal_type(self): return "SomeField" def db_type(self, connectio=None): return 'integer' def clean(self, value): # some custom cleanup pass So, none of them contain any database level customizations. When I removed this code, I've created migrations so the subsequent migration all ran fine. But when I try to run them on a pre-deletion database I realized my mistake. I can re-create a bare-bones app and make these imports work, but Ideally I would like to know if South has a mechanism to resolve these issues? Or is there any best practises? It would be cool if I could solve these issues just by modifying my migrations and not touching the codebase. (Django 1.3, South 0.7.3)

  I am using SQLite as my db during development, and I want to postpone actually creating a final database until my domains are fully mapped. If I do this ModelBinders.Binders.Add(typeof(BaseContentObject), new BaseContentObjectCommonPropertiesBinder()); then when in controller action parameter of type Tab appears, custom model binder is not fired. It gets fired if I do this: ModelBinders.Binders.Add(typeof(Tab), new BaseContentObjectCommonPropertiesBinder()); But I don't want to go writing "n" number of Add statements in my global.asax.cs to associate all the derived classes with my custom model binder, do I? I don't know if I have any other option.

It's almost in the realm of "hollywood special effects" -- like fire/smoke/fire, but I don't want natural phenomenon; I want user interfaces.   Hi all, I want to build a Python function that calculates, and would like to name my summation function S. In a similar fashion, would like to use ? for product, and so on. I was wondering if there was a way to name a python function in this fashion? def S (..): .. .. That is, does Python support unicode identifiers, and if so, could someone provide an example for it?   I'd like to get the number of commits of my git repository, a bit like SVN revision numbers. The goal is to use it as a unique, incrementing build number. I currently do like that, on Unix/Cygwin/msysGit: git log --pretty=format:'' | wc -l But I feel it's a bit of a hack. Is there a better way to do that? It would be cool if I actually didn't need wc or even git, so it could work on a bare Windows. Just read a file or a directory structure ...

  Hi, I am producing some latex beamer slides (but I think it is not a beamer specific question per se). I have the following: \begin{itemize} \item Issue1 \item Issue2 \item Issue3 \end{itemize} Now, I want to have a right curly brace (i.e. '}') behind the items spreading over issue1 and issue2. And of course I want to write something behind that curly brace. In a perfect world I would write something like: \begin{itemize} \left . \item Issue1 \item Issue2 \right \} One and Two are cool \item Issue3 \end{itemize} This does not work because I am not in a math environment and I can not put the whole snippet inside a math environment because itemize would not work in that case.   I'm going through "Intermediate Perl" and it's pretty cool. I just finished the section on "The Schwartzian Transform" and after it sunk in I started to wonder why the transform doesn't use a cache. In lists that have several repeated values the transform recomputes the value for each one so I thought why not use a hash to cache results. Here' some code: # a place to keep our results my %cache; # the transformation we are interested in sub foo { # expensive operations } # some data my @unsorted_list = ....; # sorting with the help of the cache my @sorted_list = sort { ($cache{$a} or $cache{$a} = &foo($a)) <=> ($cache{$b} or $cache{$b} = &foo($b)) } @unsorted_list; Am I missing something? Why isn't the cached version of the Schwartzian transform listed in books and in general just better circulated because on first glance I think the cached version should be more efficient?

  I'm stumped! We have a user control for managing account information. We use this particular control on two pages. On one page, everything works perfectly and meets our expectation. • Localization with separate Language folders within Views

  I'm trying to have specific folders for each language in Views. (I know this isn't the best way of doing it but it has to be this way for now) e.g. /Views/EN/User/Edit.aspx /Views/US/User/Edit.aspx These would both use the same controller and model but have different Views for each language. In my Global.asax.cs I have routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{language}/{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { language = "en", controller = "Logon", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional }, // Parameter defaults new { language = @"en|us" } // validation ); This works ok but always points to the same View. If I put the path to the Lanagugage folder it works return View("~/Views/EN/User/Edit.aspx"); but clearly this isn't a very nice way to do it. Is there anyway to get MVC to look in the correct language folder? Thanks and again I know this isn't the best way of doing Localization but I can't use resource files.

  For my application, i need to divide diagonally the screen of my iphone in 4 parts and detect which of the part was touched. I am very confused because my areas are triangles and not squares and I can't find a solution to detect which of the triangle was touched... I get the touched Point with method touchesBegan, and there I'm stuck... :( How to define triangle shapes and test if it was touched? with View? layer? • C#, WindowsForms difference to simple Console App

  Hi there, I currently started to "port" my console projects to WinForms, but it seems I am badly failing doing that. I am simply used to a console structure: I got my classes interacting with each other depending on the input coming from the console. A simple flow: Input -> ProcessInput -> Execute -> Output -> wait for input Now I got this big Form1.cs (etc.) and the "Application.Run(Form1);" But I really got no clue how my classes can interact with the form and create a flow like I described above. I mean, I just have these "...._Click(object sender....)" for each "item" inside the form. Now I do not know where to place / start my flow / loop, and how my classes can interact with the form. thanks and regards daemonfire

• [C#] What does MissingManifestResourceException mean and how to fix it?

  The situation: I have a class library, called RT.Servers, containing a few resources (of type byte[], but I don't think that's important) The same class library contains a method which returns one of those resources I have a simple program (with a reference to that library) that only calls that single method I get a MissingManifestResourceException with the following message: Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "Servers.Resources.resources" was correctly embedded or linked into assembly "RT.Servers" at compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required are loadable and fully signed. I have never played around with cultures, or with assembly signing, so I don't know what's going on here. Also, this works in another project which uses the same library. Any ideas? Edit: I checked the .resx file; all the resources are marked as "Culture=neutral" there. Also, I noticed a similar question and went to check the namespace in Resources.Designer.cs, but it's correct (it's "RT.Servers").
