• Checking online users with Facebook Javascript SDK

  Hi, I'm trying to build some kind of a social game in facebook, where I need that every user that has approved my APP is able to receive notifications from me. When the user approves my App, I save his UID in the DB for future reference. At some later time, I want to make it possible for other users find partners for a game - so I need a way to pick randomly some user from my DB and check if he's online. Then, send him a message and propose to play with the current player. So 2 questions: How can I check if some user is online, using Javascript SDK? It seems that in the new Graph API I can't get the users' online status. How can I then send him a message and propose to play the game? When he approves to play - he is being forwarded to the game page. Many thanks in advance, Roman

My script below loops through all users that are displayed after executing sp_change_users_login 'report' and apply "alter user [username] with login = [username]" to fix SID conflicts verses static go statements.   Hi Guys, I am building a widget for my users and trying to get it working however I keep running into a X-Domain issue with this header. httpfox gives me - NS_ERROR_DOM_BAD_URI - and on further investigation I find that its Access-Control-Request-Method: GET Access-Control-Request-Header: x-requested-with I am not sure why its not loading but I basically call a script and then I am trying to grab some html to load it but it gets blocked with the above headers. How can I get around this prob ?

• Best way to handle MySQL date for performance with thousands of users

  I am currently part of a team designing a site that will potentially have thousands of users who will be doing a number of date related searches. During the design phase we have been trying to determine which makes more sense for performance optimization. Should we store the datetime field as a mysql datetime. Or should be break it up into a number of fields (year, month, day, hour, minute, ...) The question is with a large data set and a potentially large set of users, would we gain performance wise breaking the datetime into multiple fields and saving on relying on mysql date functions? Or is mysql already optimized for this?

• Making an asynchronous interface appear synchronous to mod_python users

  I have a Python-driven web interface powered by Apache 2.2 with mod_python and Python 2.4. I need to make an asynchronous process appear synchronous to users of this web interface. When users access one module on this website: An external SOAP interface will be contacted with a unique identifier and will respond with a number N The external interface will respond asynchronously by contacting a SOAP server on my machine between 1 and 10 times (the number N tells us how many responses we will receive) I need to somehow aggregate these responses and pass them to the original module which will display the information back to the user. The goal is to make the process appear synchronous to the user. What is the best way to handle this synchronization issue? Is this something Twisted would be well-suited for? I am not restricting myself to Python for the solution, though it is preferred because everything else on the server is in Python. I prefer a solution that is both scalable and will take a minimal amount of programming time (though I understand that these attributes are somewhat at odds).

I need to know the number of users created for a given date range. Let's say I ask give me user report between 1-nov-2010 and 30-nov-2010 .   in my asp.net MVC project i have an database connection with connectionstring: Data Source=.;Initial Catalog=dbname;Integrated Security=True All users can execute Stored Procedures on that connection and i want to log those users. so after each execution I store "User.Identity.Name" to another database. This work great on my development machine but after deployment, to access the site i have to go through a VPN-connention and then remote desktop to the same server that the IIS is running on and use a web-browser there. Then i get User.Identity.Name: "NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE". i would expect it to be the credentials i entered in remote desktop that have access to the database. any idea how i can get this to work? iis6 authentication: "windows authentication: enabled" web.config:

• creating existing users on AWS when they don't have a group

  It seems when chef creates a user with the id of "foobar" it also creates a group with the id of "foobar". AWS doesn't do that. So, when I run my create users script via Opsworks it blows up on the first user that already exists because the group doesn't. I thought there was a way to say create the user but not the group, but I can't find it. What's the best way to solve this problem? Can I: Tell chef to not create the user's group? Tell chef to create it if the user exists but the group doesn't? Write a script that finds the existing users and creates groups for them? Something else?

• Authenticating users in iPhone app

  I'm developing an HTTP api for our web application. Initially, the primary consumer of the API will be an iPhone app we're developing, but I'm designing this with future uses in mind (such as mobile apps for other platforms). I'm trying to decide on the best way to authenticate users so they can access their accounts from the iPhone. I've got a design that I think works well, but I'm no security expert, so I figured it would be good to ask for feedback here. The design of the user authentication has 3 primary goals: Good user experience: We want to allow users to enter their credentials once, and remain logged in indefinitely, until they explicitly log out. I would have considered OAuth if not for the fact that the experience from an iPhone app is pretty awful, from what I've heard (i.e. it launches the login form in Safari, then tells the user to return to the app when authentication succeeds). No need to store the user creds with the app: I always hate the idea of having the user's password stored in either plain text or symmetrically encrypted anywhere, so I don't want the app to have to store the password to pass it to the API for future API requests. Security: We definitely don't need the intense security of a banking app, but I'd obviously like this to be secure. Overall, the API is REST-inspired (i.e. treating URLs as resources, and using the HTTP methods and status codes semantically). Each request to the API must include two custom HTTP headers: an API Key (unique to each client app) and a unique device ID. The API requires all requests to be made using HTTPS, so that the headers and body are encrypted. My plan is to have an api_sessions table in my database. It has a unique constraint on the API key and unique device ID (so that a device may only be logged into a single user account through a given app) as well as a foreign key to the users table. The API will have a login endpoint, which receives the username/password and, if they match an account, logs the user in, creating an api_sessions record for the given API key and device id. Future API requests will look up the api_session using the API key and device id, and, if a record is found, treat the request as being logged in under the user account referenced by the api_session record. There will also be a logout API endpoint, which deletes the record from the api_sessions table. Does anyone see any obvious security holes in this?

I read in SDK I can use service account to login without promting user, but I don't know how to share or give permissions files for custom users. In api reference I found this: "The user is not necessarily yet a Google user (e.g. if a file or folder is shared with an email address that does not yet have an associated Google account). Example: 1111459233037698895607". How a custom user in my app should get a token for own privilages.

  Been Googling around without finding much at all, so does anyone know of a class or library that helps you parse any sort of language, like a Domain Specific Language (I'm creating one, so I'm flexible in what the syntax and format can be) into either PHP code or some helpful struct or a class hiearchy or ... ? Anything goes at this point. :) I want to experiment with parsing text files into tokens, building up a small grammar and syntax library to express things like Business Natural Languages.

  Hi I'm having a problem with a WSS 3.0 instance where users keep losing their upload access rights every night. Users can always enter the Site involved and can browse lists, document libraries etc. just like normal, but they get an error when trying to upload documents, getting access denied error. This can be fixed by applying their access rights again in WSS, but it has to be done every morning, making that solution not feasible. This is a dedicated virtual server and no other applications running on it. Has anyone had a similar problem regarding WSS and Sharepoint access rights ?

  Hi there. I have a project, where I have posts for example. The task is next: I must show to user his last posts visit. This is my solution: every time user visits new (for him) topic, I create a new record in table visits. Table visits has next structure: id, user_id, post_id, last_visit. Now my tables visits has ~14,000,000 records and its still growing every day.. May be my solution isnt optimal and exists another way how to store users visits? Its important to save every visit as standalone record, because I also have feature to select and use users visits. And I cant purge this table, because data could be needed later month, year.   I am new to Hive, MapReduce and Hadoop. I am using Putty to connect to hive table and access records in the tables. So what I did is- I opened Putty and in the host name I typed- ares-ingest.vip.host.com and then I click Open. And then I entered my username and password and then few commands to get to Hive sql. Below is the list what I did $ bash bash-3.00$ hive Hive history file=/tmp/rjamal/hive_job_log_rjamal_201207010451_1212680168.txt hive> set mapred.job.queue.name=hdmi-technology; hive> select * from table LIMIT 1; So my question is- I was trying to connect to Hive Tables using Squirrel SQL Client, so in that my Connection URL is- jdbc:hive://ares-ingest.vip.host.com:10000/default. So whenever I try to connect with these attributes, I always get Hive: Could not establish connection to ares-ingest.vip.host.com:10000/default: java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect. It might be possible I am using wrong port number or domain name here. Is there any way from the command prompt I can find out these two things, like what Domain Name and Port Number(where Hive server is running) should I use to connect to Hive table from Squirrel SQL Client. As I know host and port are determined by where the hive server is running
