• Using Maven to build JAR from source in Subversion trunk

  There's a Java library that I would like to use in my project. My project uses Maven to pull in dependencies and it works great for everything except this one library. The problem is, this library never has releases. The author maintains the source in a Subversion repository and only makes changes in trunk. Is there a way I can tell Maven to Update (or check out) the library's source tree from Subversion Build it according to its POM Use the resulting jar as a dependency for this project Do this regularly (possibly at each build) For bonus points, mark which Subversion revision of that library I want to use Thanks!

• How do I add a Marker to a jQuery UI Slider?

  I have a simple jQuery UI slider that has a numerical range from 25 to 35. It works fine and the default value is 28. I'm hoping to add a simple tick mark to the slider to indicate that 28 is where the default is. • Loading xml with encoding UTF 16 using XDocument

  Hi, I am trying to read the xml document using XDocument method . but i am getting an error when xml has <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?> When i removed encoding manually.It works perfectly. I am getting error " There is no Unicode byte order mark. Cannot switch to Unicode. " i tried searching and i landed up here-- Why does C# XmlDocument.LoadXml(string) fail when an XML header is included? But could not solve my problem.   What are the things that Java (the language and platform) got categorically right? In other words, what things are more recent programming languages preserving and carrying forward? Some easy answer are: garbage collection, a VM, lack of pointers, classloaders, reflection(?) What about language based answers? Please don't list the things Java did wrong, just right.   I wrote three classes for a colleague of mine (I'm new at this job). They compile just fine, but he tells me there are "defects, bugs, and style problems." He wants me to print the files out and mark the problems such as the standard coding conventions, best practices, format, design, and logic. I wrote this code when I was extremely tired and I plan to rewrite it completely. My mistake was showing to it before looking it over myself again. However, he still wants me to do the markings on paper. Any input is greatly appreciated!   Hi, I would like a query that will shouw a sum of columns with a default value for missing data. For example assume I have a table as follows: type_lookup: id name 1 self 2 manager 3 peer And a table as follows data: id type_lookup_id value 1 1 1 2 1 4 3 2 9 4 2 1 5 2 9 6 1 5 7 2 6 8 1 2 9 1 1 After running a query I would like a result set as follows: type_lookup_id value 1 13 2 25 3 0 I would like all rows in type_lookup table to be included in the result set - even if they don't appear in the data table. • A web application that uses someone else's mail server?

  I'm building a web application, call it http://mywebapp.com, where a user should be able to create a newsletter and email it to everyone in his user account's contact list. So he can check mark all his friends, select an html template, fill in the body content, and send. The only catch to this is that after the user sends the email, the recipient must NOT be allowed to trace the source of the email back to http://mywebapp.com. The reason for this condition is because the user is a "reseller" of my business who wants to appear as if he's an independent business. If liability issues arise due to the reseller's unduly usage, I do not want to be caught up in the legal issues. Hence, I do not want anything about my business or technology to be traceable back to me by newsletter recipients. What's the best way to achieve this?

• Python Textwrap - forcing 'hard' breaks

  I am trying to use textwrap to format an import file that is quite particular in how it is formatted. Basically, it is as follows (line length shortened for simplicity): abcdef <- Ok line abcdef ghijk <- Note leading space to indicate wrapped line lm Now, I have got code to work as follows: wrapper = TextWrapper(width=80, subsequent_indent=' ', break_long_words=True, break_on_hyphens=False) for l in lines: wrapline=wrapper.wrap(l) This works nearly perfectly, however, the text wrapping code doesn't do a hard break at the 80 character mark, it tries to be smart and break on a space (at approx 20 chars in). I have got round this by replacing all spaces in the string list with a unique character (#), wrapping them and then removing the character, but surely there must be a cleaner way? N.B Any possible answers need to work on Python 2.4 - sorry!

  I am trying cache a class instance with AppFabric but it return class instance with empty members. The reason is DataContract Attribute. My class is marked with [Serializable] and [DataContract(Name = "TestClass", Namespace = "CustomNameSpace.TestClass")] attributes. Problem solving if I mark all properties with DataMember or remove DataContract attribute. But I do not want to remove DataContract attributte because of other serialization needs (such as json or something else) Or I do not want to add DataMember attribute to other classes. (a lot of) Do you have any idea to solve that problem ? Thanks.

• Will this make the object thread-safe?

  I have a native Visual C++ COM object and I need to make it completely thread-safe to be able to legally mark it as "free-threaded" in th system registry. Specifically I need to make sure that no more than one thread ever accesses any member variable of the object simultaneously. The catch is I'm almost sure that no sane consumer of my COM object will ever try to simultaneously use the object from more than one thread. So I want the solution as simple as possible as long as it meets the requirement above. Here's what I came up with. I add a mutex or critical section as a member variable of the object. Every COM-exposed method will acquire the mutex/section at the beginning and release before returning control. I understand that this solution doesn't provide fine-grained access and this might slow execution down, but since I suppose simultaneous access will not really occur I don't care of this. Will this solution suffice? Is there a simpler solution?

  I am trying to write a WPF windows application that dynamically creates a 3 D object for an existing 3D Image. The senerio is as follows. Mark the points randomly on the existing 3D Image. Create a 3D object based on the points already marked. Check the below Sample Screenshots. Screenshot 1 and Screenshot 2 I am successfully able to load the 3D file to the WPF form. And was able to perform the rotation using TrackballDecorator 3D Tools library.   I have a socketChannel configured as blocking, but when reading byte buffers of 5K from this socket, I get an incomplete buffer sometimes. ByteBuffer messageBody = ByteBuffer.allocate(5*1024); messageBody.mark(); messageBody.order(ByteOrder.BIG_ENDIAN); int msgByteCount = channel.read(messageBody); Ocasionally, messageBody is not completely filled and channel.read() does not return -1 or an exception, but the actual number of bytes read (which is less than 5k). Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

• Implementing traceback on i386

  Hi, I am currently porting our code from an alpha (Tru64) to an i386 processor (Linux) in C. Everything has gone pretty smoothly up until I looked into porting our exception handling routine. Currently we have a parent process which spawns lots of sub processes, and when one of these sub-processes fatal's (unfielded) I have routines to catch the process. I am currently struggling to find the best method of implementing a traceback routine which can list the function addresses in the error log, currently my routine just prints the the signal which caused the exception and the exception qualifier code. Any help would be greatly received, ideally I would write error handling for all processors, however at this stage I only really care about i386, and x86_64. Thanks Mark

• Canon MF3200 Printer Problems [closed]

  I bought a Canon MF3200 and used it on an old Windows laptop. The laptop broke, and now I'm trying to setup the printer on a laptop with Windows 7. I downloaded the new driver, and Windows was able to install it and mark it "Ready to Go." But whenever I try to print, an error comes up and it doesn't print. I tried to troubleshoot, to no avail. What else can I do? Any ideas on what the error might be?

  Hi everyone, I'm creating one Cocoa application for myself and I found a problem. I have two NSTextFields and they're connected to each other as nextKeyViews. When I run this app with memory leaks detection tool and tab through those 2 textboxes for a while, enter some text etc., I start to leak memory. It shows me that the AppKit library is responsible, the leaked objects are NSCFStrings and the responsible frames are [NSEvent charactersIgnoringModifiers] and [NSApplication nextEventMatchingMask:untilDate:inMode:dequeue:]. I know this is quite a brief and incomplete description, but does anyone have any ideas what could be the problem? Also, I don't use GC, so I release my instance variables in the controllers dealloc. What about the outlets? Since IBOutlet is just a mark for Interface Builder and doesn't actually mean anything, should I release them too?

  Hi All, Is it necessary to decorate custom objects with [DataContract] and [DataMember] when using shared assemblies (as opposed to auto proxy generation)? The reason I ask is that I have encountered the following scenario: Suppose the following object is implemented in my service: public class baseClass { Guid _guid; public baseClass() { _guid = Guid.NewGuid() } public Guid ReturnGuid { get {return _guid;}} } public class newClass : baseClass { int _someValue; public newClass {} public int SomeValue { get {return _someValue;} set {_someValue = value;} } } [ServiceContract] public IService { [OperationContract] newClass SomeOperation(); } In my client (with shared assemblie) I can happily recieve and use a serialized newClass when SomeOperation is called - even though I have not marked it as a DataContract. However, as soon as I do mark it with DataContract and use DataMember then it complains that set is not implemented on ReturnGuid in the base class. Could somebody explain why it works fine when I do not decorate with DataContract and DataMember. Many thanks.

  A lot of sites offer the ability to edit lists of items inline as well as allowing multiple items to be selected via checkboxes and have an action performed all at once e.g. delete, mark as spam etc. But how do you implement this without violating html rules. I need one form for the checkboxes with individual submit_tags for the mass actions. But after a user clicks on an item in the list, another form via Ajax will be inserted within the checkbox form. How do I avoid doing this? I'm using rails and jQuery.

  I am using will_paginate for pagination but I can't seem to use more than one condition at a time. For example, if I want to have a sql query that ends in "Where office_id = 5", then it's pretty straight forward, I can do that. but what if I want to do "Where office_id = 5 AND primary_first = 'Mark'"? I can't do that. I have no idea how to enter multiple conditions. Can you help?? • Is there an difference between transient properties defined in the data model, or in the custom subc

  I was reading that setting the value of a transient property always results in marking the managed object as "dirty". However, what I don't get is this: If I make a subclass of NSManagedObject and use some extra properties which I don't need to be persistet, how does Core Data know about them and how can it mark the object as dirty when I access these? Again, they're not defined in the data model, so Core Data has no really good hint that they are there. Or does Core Data use some kind of introspection to analyze my custom class and figure out what properties I have in there?
