  • Scroll up/down while selecting multi-page block of text in Vim through putty

    I'm using vim 6.3.81 on a xterm through putty. When I use set mouse=a , I can scroll through the file , but not select text. When mouse is disabled using set mouse=, I can select text with mouse (automatically copied to a buffer) , but if the text block is over one page long , I can't scroll up/down (and have to select text one screen at a time) !! Is there any way to have the best of both - while selecting text with mouse , if i reach the end of page , it automatically scrolls up/down depending on whether i've reached top/bottom of page and allows me to select text from the next page as well ? I know vim is powerful/flexible enough to do what I want - I just don't know how !! Can anyone help ?

    Hi, When creating templates I typically have 3 separate parts (header, body, footer) which I combine to pass a singe string to the web-server (CherryPy in this case). My first approach is as follows... from jinja2 import Environment, FileSystemLoader env = Environment(loader=FileSystemLoader('')) tmpl = env.get_template('Body.html') page_body = tmpl.render() tmpl = env.get_template('Header.html') page_header = tmpl.render() tmpl = env.get_template('Footer.html') page_footer = tmpl.render() page_code = page_header + page_body + page_footer but this contains repetitious code, so my next approach is... def render_template(html_file): from jinja2 import Environment, FileSystemLoader env = Environment(loader=FileSystemLoader('')) tmpl = env.get_template(html_file) return tmpl.render() page_header = render_template('Header.html') page_body = render_template('Body.html') page_footer = render_template('Footer.html) However, this means that each part is created in its own environment - can that be a problem? Are there any other downsides to this approach? I have chosen the 3-part approach over the child-template approach because I think it may be more flexible (and easier to follow), but I might be wrong. Anyone like to convince me that using header, body and footer blocks might be better? Any advice would be appreciated. Alan

    I need to run my RMI server using the command line, my class files reside in this folder: C:\workspace\distributedhw2\AgencyServers\RmiEncodingServer\RmiServerClasses in package hw2.rmi.server The code base reside in this folder: C:\workspace\distributedhw2\AgencyServers\RmiEncodingServer\RmiServerCodeBase in package hw2.rmi.server I use the command line: java –classpath C:\workspace\distributedhw2\AgencyServers\RmiEncodingServer\RmiServerClasses\ -Djava.rmi.server.codebase=file:/C:\workspace\distributedhw2\AgencyServers\RmiEncodingServer\ Djava.security.policy=c:\HW2\permissions.policy hw2.rmi.server.RmiEncodingServer but I get a "class not found" exception as follows: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: ûclasspath Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: ûclasspath at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) Could not find the main class: GÇôclasspath.   • Doxygen: grouping documentation by folder in a multi-project codebase

    In one project, some pages were added - it was a new project in which doxygen was being tested properly - adding comments & pages - rather than simply auto-generating docs from our existing code-base. The problem is when doxygen is run on the main code-base, that project's pages show up at a top level. e.g they have a main-page and some sub-pages. But what we'd want is all those pages pushed down one level so you have main-project-main-project-pages. One question is what happens if multiple projects have a main-page? Do they get combined, or throw errors? Another question is if you can tell doxygen to use paths and containing folders to auto-generate groups or sections or page-hierarchies in some way? Going through all out projects to properly assign classes to groups is a mammoth task, so ideally everything in a directory would get put in a group of that name, as a way to make the documentation of non-doxygen codebases better. Sorry my question is a bit vague, the problem is even after reading the docs the terminology isn't totally clear yet. Hopefully the kind of question I'm asking is clear, if not I'll try to cobble an example file-structure together.

    Hi, I have a product built out of multiple processes. Each process uses internally commons configuration. Does anyone have an idea how to manage the config? I.e. we do not want to duplicate variables so each process will be able to read them. Additionally, DB solution is no good, as we do not want to be dependent on DB for something like configuration.     My question may appear silly. But as I am a rookie in Python , help me out. I have to pass a line to a stopword removal function. It works fine. But my problem is return of the function is appending the words. I want it as like follows: line = " I am feeling good , but I cant talk" Let "I,but,cant" are stopwords. After passing to the function , my output should be as "am feeling good , talk". What I a getting now is [['am','feeling','good','talk']]. Help me.

    Can anyone suggest some good materials for learning more about the Linux filesystem and command line? I have found myself frequently confused as to what programs go where on the Linux filesystem. I would like to learn how the various directories (var, etc, usr ...) are used and how to use the commandline more effectively. I come from the Windows development world (.NET developer) so I am very familiar with Windows system administration. However, when doing more and more work with PHP I found myself lost in the internals of Linux (specifically Ubuntu). For example I was having problems installing PEAR properly on my Ubuntu system and not understanding why it was installed where it was. All of my interactions with Linux machines is done via SSH so I would like to focus on the command line and the filesystem. Thanks for any suggestions.

I cannot beleive that the word wrapping information (how many lines are there, where are the line breaks) cannot be extracted from the JTextArea.   • what pattern to use for multi-argument method?

    I have a method with the following signature: foo (Sample sample, Aliquot aliquot) "foo" needs to alter a Sample object, either the first argument or from the second argument it can extract its Sample. For example: foo (Sample sample, Aliquot aliquot) { Sample out = null; if (sample != null) out = sample else out = aliquot.getSample() return out; } But that is so un-elegant, other than reading the API a developer does not know the reference of the first argument overrides the Sample of the second argument. Now, I could change "foo" to foo (SomeMagicalObject bar) where SomeMagicalObject is a tuple for Sample and Aliquot and holds some logic ... etc. But I am wondering, are there some patterns for this question?

  • Give me a practical use-case of Multi-set

    I would like to know a few practical use-cases (if they are not related/tied to any programming language it will be better).I can associate Sets, Lists and Maps to practical use cases. For example if you wanted a glossary of a book where terms that you want are listed alphabetically and a location/page number is the value, you would use the collection TreeMap(OrderedMap which is a Map) Somehow, I can't associate MultiSets with any "practical" usecase. Does someone know of any uses? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiset does not tell me enough :) PS: If you guys think this should be community-wiki'ed it is okay. The only reason I did not do it was "There is a clear objective way to answer this question".

You may, however, wish to treat a string as a multi-line buffer, such that the "^" will match after any newline within the string ... you can do this by using the /m modifier on the pattern match operator. The "after any newline" part means that it will only match at the beginning of the 2nd and subsequent lines. What if I want to match at the beginning of any line (1st, 2nd, etc.)?

  • Naming multi-instance performance counters in .NET

    Most multiple instance performance counters in Windows seem to automatically(?) have a #n on the end if there's more than one instance with the same name. For example: if, in Perfmon, you look under the Process category, you'll see: ... dwm explorer explorer#1 ... I have two explorer.exe processes, so the second counter has #1 appended to its name. When I attempt to do this in a .NET application: I can create the category, and register the instance (using the PerformanceCounterCategory.Create that takes a CounterCreationDataCollection). I can open the counter for write and write to it. When I open the counter a second time, it opens the same counter. This means that I have two applications fighting over the counters. The documentation for PerformanceCounter.InstanceName states that # is not allowed in the name. So: how do I have multiple-instance performance counters that are actually multiple instance? And where the second (and subsequent) instances get #n appended to the name? That is: I know that I can put the process ID (e.g.) on the instance name. This works, but has the unfortunate side effect that restarting the process results in a new PID, and Perfmon continues monitoring the old counter.

    Just converting some shell scripts into batch files and there is one thing I can't seem to find...and that is a simple count of the number of command line arguments. eg. if you have: myapp foo bar In Shell: $# - 2 $* - foo bar $0 - myapp $1 - foo $2 - bar In batch ?? - 2 <---- what command?! %* - foo bar %0 - myapp %1 - foo %2 - bar So I've looked around, and either I'm looking in the wrong spot or I'm blind, but I can't seem to find a way to get a count of number of command line arguments passed in. Is there a command similar to shell's "$#" for batch files? ps. the closest i've found is to iterate through the %1s and use 'shift', but I need to refernece %1,%2 etc later in the script so that's no good.

  • Multi-platform development from one computer

    I am planning to build a new development computer for both Windows & Linux platforms. On Windows, my development would be primarily in .NET/C#/IIS/MSSQL Server. On Linux—preferably Ubuntu—my development would be in Ruby and Python. I am thinking of buying a laptop with Windows 7 pre-installed with 4GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo, and 320 GB HD; running 2 VMs for both Windows and Linux development with the host OS as my work station. Of course, I would be running DBs and web servers on the respective platforms. Is this a typical setup? My only concern is running two VMs side by side. Not sure if this configuration would be optimal. Alternative would be to do my Windows development on the host Windows 7 OS. What are your thoughts?
