• Sharepoint 2010 as framework for website?

  So I'm looking at several solutions for our new website. And we've looked at ExpressionEngine first and foremost. Now, during brainstorming today, one person said "why don't we use Sharepoint 2010 to build the site on?", and it doesn't seem like a horrible idea. I mean, we're based around Office anyway. We use Lync and have an intranet based on Sharepoint 2010 anyway. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Would it cost more to develop an internet webpage on Sharepoint 2010 opposed to using ExpressionEngine?

• What should I call the process of converting an object to a string?

  We are having a game of 'semantic football' in the office over this matter: I am writing a method for an object which will represent the object as a string. That string should be such that when typed (more likely, cut and pasted) into the interpreter window (I will keep the language name out of this for now), will produce an object which is, for our purposes, identical to the one upon which the method was called. There is a spirited discussion over the 'best' name for this method. The terms pickle, serialize, deflate, etc have been proposed. However, it seems that those terms assume some process for the de-pickling (unserialization, etc) that is not necessarily the language interpreter itself. That is, they do not specifically refer to the case where strings of valid code are produced. This is closer to a quine, but we are re-producing the object not the code, so this is not quite right. any suggestions?

• Problem installing LibreOffice; please help!

  I followed the instructions for installing LibreOffice found here, which are basically the same instructions found all over askubuntu and the web in general. I followed the instructions (including removing OO first) for gnome; all that is in my Applications menu now is LibreOffice (OO used to have OpenOffice Spreadsheet, OpenOffice Presentation, etc.) When I open LibreOffice, I get the splash screen/menu, but all of the choices for creating new docs are greyed out. It also will not open any office/type files (no errors; they just don't open.) The terminal commands indicated that installation was successful, but obviously something is missing. I'm guessing I can just reinstall OO from the software center, but I'd really like to give LibreOffice a try, given the lack of ongoing development on OO. Can anyone help me out?

But as we go through our usual dev cycles, we create these ApplicationIDs. Hell Visual Studio will create them for us, to make things easy!The problem is, many a developer, and some a ITOgre, may leave these AppPrincipalIds sitting there and not clean them up when they are done playing. You can look for currently registered App Principals at https://yourtenant/_layouts/15/appprincipals.aspx The problem is, that URL shows you App Principals registered AND currently in use. Currently NOT in use App Principals are NOT shown on that page. The same issue applies on premises also, even though here I am talking specifically about Office 365.   I am developing an Excel addin that has an udf and calls it as a worksheet function. It is a com addin where I am using the IDTExtensibility2 interface and set the class interface type as autodual and then shim it as in the link http://blogs.msdn.com/andreww/archive/2006/07/23/excel-interop-types-in-shimmed-automation-add-ins.aspx Things work fine in my development machine but I am having a tough time packaging the assembly. The addin registers but the formula does not appear in the formula bar of Excel after the installation. Can someone help me with the right way to get it done ?   Issue:You changed the windows path and made a mistake and now want to reset it.Solution:In short, you can't. If you restore to the system default, you will loose any paths that were appended when you or the manufacturer installed software and drivers. Each time you install some sort of software or driver, MS Office, Turbotax, etc., it creates/appends to the path so that it points to it's start-up program.Too late now, but you should create a restore point BEFORE you touch the windows path if you are not sure what you are doing:http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html At a minimum you need the following:%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\AT worst you can reset it to the above, and go through each application as you use them and run into problems to fix the path. The link says something about "master mode", how do i put my T61 wifi-inter4965 in master mode. Can i install madwifi or atheros drivers on it. I will break it into 3 options I have: Hosted: Economical, $10-20/month for a small app Less setup, the CI company manage all hardware and software Desktop: I could just buy a simple, cheap desktop as a test server (about $500).   I want to deploy a "Did you know..." or "Tip of the day" application at the office. It should: Show a dialog at login time with a random tip. Obviously, provide some way to store my own tips. Be easy to disable and reenable by the user itself. I'm using puppet, so I'm covered with the deployment. The tips don't even need to be gathered from a server, since I can deploy the newest tips file/database with no costs. Sure, I could hack a quick solution by using zenity and bash, but I'd like to know if there's any application out there specifically targeted at this. I don't like the zenity approach very much because it's very limited on the contents that can be displayed. No text alongside screenshots, for example. Zenity is aimed towards displaying simple dialogs.

  I have a server in which SCO 5.x is installed. I have several thin clients which were supplied from our head office. Those thin clients have linux pre-installed in them. When we tried to connect to our SCO server, we have found out that the thin client does not support SCO terminal type. So the program (Which is written in Oracle forms) is not working correctly. Lots of function keys stopped working and screen also not getting refreshed correctly. Hence we decided to use Ubuntu Live USB keys in thin clients. Now the problem is how can we change the terminal type to SCO in ubuntu ? Means I want it in the text terminal (Alt+Ctrl+F1,F2...) (Not in xterm...graphical terminal emulators). Does ubuntu support SCO terminal type ?

  In C# I am trying to get an instance of an Excel.Application object from a Process object. This seems like it should be really simple yet I cannot figure it out and cannot find an example. To repeat, I have a System.Diagnostics.Process object that I know refers to a running Excel instance. I now need to recover a Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application object that refers to the process so that I can go about manipulating the Excel application from C#. In case it makes it any simpler, I also have the HWND id and window text associated with the active Excel window. Thanks.

  I just got a new project. It’s a WinForm app. And it’s interesting because I will have the possibility to learn how fish farms work and are managed. I will have to develop touch interfaces, and use datasnap to communicate and sync data between farm and office. The development will be done in DELPHI win32, still not sure about the database, but maybe SQLlite. So now comes the difficult part of the project, building it. I am just finishing one. It took me a lot of time to do it and I am a bit “burned out”. I will have time to relax, not much, but a few days. What I am looking is some tips and tricks and possibly tools to be able to speed up the development. It must be up and running in 2 months. So what tricks do you use to speed up things?

  It seems to me that the programming industry is in a race to the bottom. If we take the practices of: Not taking time to implement best practices Using other's people code as much as possible (custom code as a liability) Using increasingly higher level languages to improve productivity GUI based development "tools" that greatly simplify "programming" and do not require people to understand the plumbing behind the code These things imply to me that we are in a race to becoming like any other office worker. It is in the employer's interest for things to not require skill (easier to replace), for things to be prebuilt (less project time). My point here is that a) is there a misalignment between skill and the economic interests of the employer? and b) if there is, how do you mitigate it to enforce professional standards?

• C# - Error if Windows Media Player is not supported

  i´m using the windows media player (Interop.WMPLib.dll & AxInterop.WMPLib.dll) in my c#-project to stream a mp3 from a server. The only problem is, if the windows media player is somehow not supported on a pc (not installed or something), my application just gives an error (no exception, just a "windows-error") and won´t start. So, is it possible to check, if the windows media player is supported? Just checking if the OS is supported will probably not help. Are there maybe some better ways to stream mp3s than with the WMP ? • Unity launcher full - Need more icons

  I have already reduced the Unity launcher icons to 32 but still the space is exhausted already with my most-used programs. Basically I have to scroll often in the unity launcher bar with is annoying. So far (Ubuntu 10.04) I had those icons as mini ones in the top panel (smaller icons and wider space) where they could fit all. I was thinking already of sub-launchers or something the like but could not find something like the drawer was in Gnome 2. I am using Ubuntu at home and in the office. I am a consultant and need a lot of stuff on a regular basis. To put links at the desktop does not make sense because of the many windows that I usually have open there is hardly ever a piece of the desktop looking through. How do you - power users get keep most-used programs at reach (and I mean <= 2 clicks away)?

It enjoy the look on audience faces when they see the app actually work on actual device. I see a great opportunity on WP7 and everyone I met agrees on the fact the WP7 has a very bright future ahead.
