  • is it possible to have two web servers hosted at different places share the same domain name?

    say I have a wordpress site: https://www.foobar.com and I want to have an entry point to a rails app at a certain subdirectory within that same domain: https://www.foobar.com/rails_app I know this is possible if both the wordpress app and the rails app are hosted on the same box, but is this in anyway possible if they are hosted on different boxes? I do not want to use subdomains because I am trying to allow ajax post requests from one to the other and not having to deal with single origin policy stuff.

Create partition on /dev/md0 and /dev/md1 (primary over full 'HDD', set partition type correctly) and then do the stripe on the partition? Is there a correct way here or are there any advantages/disadvantages to a solution? Thank you

    hello, i've got two comboboxes with the same content. the user should not be allowed to choose the same item twice. therefore the comboboxes' contents (= selectedindex?) should never be equal. my first attempt was to comapare the selectedindex with a datatrigger to show/hide a button: <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding ElementName=comboBox1, Path=SelectedIndex}" Value="{Binding ElementName=comboBox2, Path=SelectedIndex}"> <Setter Property="Visibility" Value="Hidden" /> </DataTrigger> it seems that it is not possible to use Value={Binding}. is there any other way (if possible without using a converter)? thanks in advance!

  • How would I initialize these two lists so that modifying one doesn't modify the other?

    I'm aware of why this is happening, but is there any way to do this without having to implement ICloneable or a Copy() method? Preferably .net 2.0, but 3.5 is fine if it is necessary. Essentially I'm trying to implement an undo method. In most cases I can just perform the reverse action in the Undo(), but for others that is not possible. So I want to keep two lists. One for the list of items that I will be modifying, and one for the original, unmodified list of items. This way if I need to do an undo, I just delete the modified items and replace them with the originals. Most of the ways I've tried to assign the _originalItems variable doesn't work, so what would I need to do? public MyClass(List<SelectedItems> selectedItems) { _selectedItems = new List<SelectedItems>(selectedItems); _originalItems = ?? }

  • How can you buffer two online videos alternately while playing one of them?

    On my website, I want my user to be able to launch video 2 at any point in the middle of video 1 without waiting or refreshing the window. How can I buffer the two videos such that I buffer video 1 enough to let it start playing, and then buffer just enough of video 2 that if the user launches it at any point, he does not have to wait to view its first few seconds, and then I can come back and buffer the rest of video 1? If this is not possible, I could also look at buffering video 1 and 2 in parallel while playing only video 1. Thanks!

  • Two sites running same code and different config files?

    I have a Windows 2008R2 server with IIS, running one site (ASP.NET4.5). All the parameters are written in web.config file. I have to add a new site, that will run on the same code (same root folder) as the first one, but will read parameters like sql connection strings etc. from its own config file, not from first site web.config. How can I do that? Is it possible to run the second site in different app pool? Both sites will run the same .NET version of course. Thank you!

  • Two cisco gigabit switches refuse to link to each other. Any idea why?

    I have 3 Linksys SR2024 switches which are basically non-managed 24 port Gbit + 2 miniGBIC. I now had to add another switch to the network, and my provider didn't have the SR2024 switch anymore, so I got the Cisco SLM2024 which was a bit more expensive. It's pretty much the same thing but with management (that I don't need). So I've connected the SLM2024 to a SR2024 via Cat6 cable, and for some strange reason, I get no link. If I connect any machine with a Gbit NIC to both switches, it links with 1Gbit autonegotiated. If I connect the SLM2024 to a non-Gbit switch (I have a cheap 4port ASUS switch), it will link just fine on 100Mbit full duplex. Since the SLM2024 has management, I've tried to see if something is misconfigured on it's side, but it's not, it advertises 1Gbit and lower. (hence the machines connecting succesfully at 1Gbit). Since the SR2024 that I'm trying to connect it to also connects successfully with another SR2024 and other Gbit machines, it means that it advertises Gbit too. But for some reason when I link the SR2024 to the SLM2024 I get no link. Please note that I've properly tested the wire. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong?

    I have a laptop with a 250GB HDD. I have an existing installation of Kubuntu across three partitions (A 20GB one for /, 2GB for swap, and something like 97GB for /home). If I add another partition, use that as / for a Mint 13 install, and then use the existing /home partition as Linux Mint's home folder (different user names), are there any dangers (besides badly done partitioning, and other dumb things like that)?

    Hey, I am not sure what to do on this one, I'm not a programmer, but trying to learn CSS as this is how the theme I am using was coded in. I've gotten quite far on my own, but this one stumps me Its two column Theme... As far as I have been able to get, I can use the following: #left { width: 235px; padding: 10px; margin-left: 20px; position: fixed; line-height: 15px; If I change the position to Absolute, The whole page scrolls, If I leave it at Fixed, and add lets say, a Twitter feed, or other type of text that takes me past its reading where you would normally scroll, Its just cut off, cannot get to it, hightlight or scroll.. I've also toyed with the idea, of changing the theme to a 3 column theme, but Again, not a programmer, and i'd be really confused. anyhelp would be great...   • WinXP Parallels Guest with OS X host -- communication between the two?

    The setup: Windows XP guest OS running inside Parallels 5 on a OS X 10.6.2 host. I have a win32 application that runs in windows that communicates with other programs by sending out keystrokes to the program in focus. I can run this software inside parallels just fine, but I need a way for it to communicate (via keystrokes) with native OS X applications. For instance, the windows software sends out a continuous stream of a's and w's, based on the program input from an external source. On the other side, I have a Mac version of VLC media player with hotkeys set up for a and w for the two functions I would like to manipulate from the windows software. How can I set up a link between the guest and host OS's with Parallels that lets a windows program send keystrokes to a mac program?

    Hi, I want to do the following two SQL Queries in Microsoft SQL SERVER UPDATE Partnerships SET sortOrder = 2 WHERE sortOrder = 1; UPDATE Partnerships SET sortOrder = 1 WHERE sortOrder = 2; The only problem is, I don't allow for sortOrder to contain the same value, it is a unique key. How could I get around this, because the first query violates the unique key rule and terminates? Or will I have to get rid of the unique key rule I have? Thanks!

    Hey guys, The website that I'm building includes a section where two users can interact. I think I know how to do most of it, except the actual session sharing part. I'm using Ruby on Rails & Javascript (jquery), and I've got user login and session management all working okay. Would the best way to create a shared session be to have a SharedSession model, with accompanying database table, with participant1ID, participant2ID etc? Is there a better way?     I'm going to create a website using Wordpress static pages feature. It's going to have a menu for all the created pages. A blog is going to be created as well. This blog has a completely different layout/menu from the main site, but within the same domain: "http://www.domain.com" is the website url, and "http://www.domain.com/blog/" is the blog url. I was thinking of installing two different Wordpress instances: /var/www/public_html/ and /var/www/public_html/blog/. Although it's a simple solution, users are going to be duplicated: if you change password in one system, you need to change in the other. So, I would like to know from you which other approaches are possible: create a "dynamic" theme (call a theme when in root domain, another whern /blog - dont even know if this is possible), or for example a plugin to syncronize users from both instances? Does Wordpress MU solve this problem for me? Thanks!

    I've searched quite a bit and can't seem to find a straight, modern answer on this. If I am hosting a domain, say, mydomain.com, on a machine which is going to solely be used for that domain, and there are no subdomains, is there a real, practical reason besides compliance to create an arbitrary hostname (i.e. myhost) just in order to have a three-part FQDN (myhost.mydomain.com) to satisfy some sort of RFC or convention that's expected. This seems to make a lot of undue complexities from my perspective, and I'm not sure if there's an advantage to this or if it's just a hold-over from a time where all web resources came from a subdomains such as www and ftp which may need to scale to separate machines. I don't use www on my domain, either, which is ill-advised for all I know from an administrators perspective (though removing it is the norm from a designer's perspective)...

I thought I could do some self-joins to deal with this, but I am worried in the cases where the non-key fields have the same data in multiple rows.

    Alright, here is my issue, I have two tables, one named firstnames and the other named lastnames. What I am trying to do here is to find 100 of the possible combinations from these names for test data. The firstnames table has 5494 entries in a single column, and the lastnames table has 88799 entries in a single column. The only query that I have been able to come up with that has some results is: select * from (select * from firstnames order by rand()) f LEFT JOIN (select * from lastnames order by rand()) l on 1=1 limit 10; The problem with this code is that it selects 1 firstname and gives every lastname that could go with it. While this is plausible, I will have to set the limit to 500000000 in order to get all the combinations possible without having only 20 first names(and I'd rather not kill my server). However, I only need 100 random generations of entries for test data, and I will not be able to get that with this code. Can anyone please give me any advice?

    Hello, I have a problem with my vpn connections, my ISP requires me to connect to a private vpn server of it's own in order to connect to internet, im connected to main network via WiFi, but i also want to connect to another VPN network of my choice (to bypass internet limitation in my country of course), i am able to do that in Windows, but its not working in Mac OS X Snow Leopard second vpn connecion type is PPTP / CHAP How can i do that? as u see in the pic, both vpn's are connected, first one is for main internet which is working properly , second one is also connected but its not affecting anything. its just connected. http://www.freezpic.com/pics/a5231c3e80501a3c25430f43c1ef5856.png
