• MATLAB cannot find its own libraries

  I am having a problem with a new installation of MATLAB (2012b) that is cannot find the base enumberation type Simulink.IntEnumType. The specific error text is: specified superclass 'Simulink.IntEnumType' contains a parse error or cannot be found on MATLAB's search path, possibly shadowed by another file with the same name I am quite sure there is no shadowing, so I suspect there is a problem with the installation. Any ideas what could have gone wrong?

• Is it possible to install custom software on Amazon EC2

  I'm trudging through the Amazon docs for a quick answer, but while I'm looking I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask here. My client uses custom software that uses (wait for it) Microsoft Excel to store data as opposed a RDBMS. Either way, their server is outdated and they are interested in using Amazon's cloud services, but would installing this software be possible, or am I barking up the wrong tree? Links are welcome! • Convert IP Address format from ForeFront Firewall logs with SQL

  I am trying to query IP addresses from Forefront Firewall logs, and I am a little stuck on the IP formatting C0A8E008-FFFF-0000-0000-000000000000 Can anyone give me the MSSQL command to turn this into standard human redable? UPDATE, I now see that I kust need to convert the first 8 charecters from hex to decimal....which I can then convert to IP. the trick is to parse those first charecters from the field with SQL

  When I install Fedora 19 with a kickstart file and via network, the generated ifcfg-eth0 file is genorated by the kickstart: # Generated by parse-kickstart However if I use the same kickstart file and install via a USB stick, the ifcfg file is generated by initrd. # Generated by dracut initrd The line in the kickstart file to set the network settings is as follows: network --device=eth0 --bootproto=dhcp --hostname=SOMEHOSTNAME Is there away to keep network device settings set in the kickstart file when not installing via network?

• Disk drive disappear in Windows Explorer driver list

  OS: WinXP SP3 When pressing win+E or open Windows Explorer, under My Computer, usually there are several disk drives. But somehow they just disappeared. If I type c:\ in address bar, then the disk will re-appear in the tree though. How to get them back to normal? Thanks.

• Where can I get precompiled mod_perl, mod_python for Apache on Win64?

  I have managed to set up pure 64-bit Apache, PHP, MySQL, and 64-bit distributions of Perl and Pyton. However, I cannot get Apache to automatically parse .pl files with Perl, and .py files with Python. Looking around points to mod_perl and mod_python for Apache, which unfortunately fail to build. Is there any precompiled mod_perl, mod_python for Win64? Or is there any other way of getting .pl, .py to work on Apache?

• Zenoss: Getting SNMP stats over SSH

  I have the SSH connection working. I have it successfully modeling the device (Ubuntu Server, in this case). What I can't get to work is the SNMP portion. It sounds like I have to custom add the snmpwalk command when doing monitoring over SSH - in other words, have Zenoss connect via SSH, and then run an arbitrary command agains the client (in this case, an snmpwalk), and then parse the results.   I would like to know of addons which actually enhance firefox's performance, both intentionally and unintentionally. I find that firefox tends to have major performance issues with certain websites. These websites tend to have a fair amount of javascript and css, and probably a large dom tree which may even be growing dynamically through javascript too. The worse offenders are those with heavy javascript, use heavy facebook integration, websites with non performant javascript, excessive javascript and websites with too many advertisements.

A developer who has only sftp access needs to be able to restore from the backups and hence a solution such as rdiff-backup or duplicity wont work as she would need shell access to restore (afaik).   There are many network analysis tools like Wireshark, Sniffer Pro, Omnipeak which can dump the packet data in structured manner. I'm just writing my own file analyzer for general purpose, which can dump JPEG, PNG, EXE, ELF, ASN.1 DER encoded files, etc. in tree style. There are so many file formats in the world that I can't handle them all. So I'm wondering if there's some software already there, with pluggable architecture and a large established file format repository?

  I have a tree of snapshots taken about once an hour as I progressed through a rather tricky server setup. Now that I'm done, I would like to get rid of the snapshots, but I gather that these are actually differencing drives. If that's the case, does it not mean that deleting a snapshot will in fact revert me back to a previous point in time. Or does it mean that deleting a snapshot merges the changed bits into the parent VHD.

  I would like to parse an access log file and have returned the amount of requests, for the last 7 days. I have this command cut -d'"' -f3 /var/log/apache/access.log | cut -d' ' -f2 | sort | uniq -c | sort -rg Unfortunately, this command returns the amount of requests since the creation of the file and sorts it into HTTP-code categories. I would like just a number, no categories and only for the last 7 days. Thanks.

  I'm often deep inside a directory tree, moving upwards and downwards to perform various tasks. Is there anything more efficient than going 'cd ../../../..'? I was thinking something along the lines of this: If I'm in /foo/bar/baz/qux/quux/corge/grault and want to go to /foo/bar/baz, I want to do something like 'cdto baz'. I can write some bash script for this, but I'd first like to know if it already exists in some form.
