• Minecraft Fullscreen not working

  I upgraded to Quantal recently, and Minecraft seems to not want to run in fullscreen. When I go to fullscreen it, the screen will go black for a second, as if it was about to go fullscreen normally, but then it just restores back into its window. So far I have tried: using different JREs (I've tried openjdk 6 and 7, as well as oracle7). Oracle's jre wouldn't even run Minecraft (I just got a black screen after logging in) switching graphics drivers (tried nvidia-current, nvidia-current-updates, and xserver-xorg-video-nouveau) updating minecraft bin files updating lwjgl libraries separately from the lwjgl site None of this seemed to work at all. I am running Minecraft with the command java -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -cp minecraft.jar net.minecraft.LauncherFrame Graphics card is GeForce 9500 GS/PCIe/SSE2. Everything was working fine a few days ago when I was on 12.04.

• Any really decent way to get three monitors?

  What satisfactory solutions are there to achieve three monitors on Ubuntu? I know some ATI cards (Eyefinity) can support 3 monitors from a single card, but I don't know how well this is supported under Linux and besides, I've never had much luck with ATI on Linux. The alternative is to try two cards, but there seem to be problems there too. It looks to me like xrandr cannot support 2 GPUs. I believe you'll end up with two separate "Screens" across which you cannot move applications or windows, unless you enable Xinerama which as I understand it disables some acceleration and probably compositing too. I've found so much conflicting information on this online, I'm really confused. Please advise!

• CRT as 2nd monitor goes screwy after start up?

  new install of 12.04 on an old dell with a radeon ATI RV516 video card with monitor out and s-video out. During boot up all is good. Both screens operate and look fine. Then just before the desktop appears the cCRT goes purple and is covered in heavy horizontal lines, but as i said during boot up it was fine and the resolution was fine. The main monitor, an lcd, operates normally. everything else works fine, it's just the picture on the CRT that is screwed up. • Problem with graphic Ubuntu 12.04 (not sure if it's because of the graphic driver)

  Ubuntu 12.04 was functioning properly . Then after an update, some graphic elements stop working properly. I could not launch programs that has 3D elements. Work space switcher's window displays 2D window instead of a 3D like usual. In Details menu, the Graphic row is blank. I am using Intel GMA 4500MHD graphic card. I am guessing that the driver is not properly installed? Anyone has the same issue? Please help!

The laptop model is HP dv9500, Ubuntu 10.10, but the same was in the versions before. How can I fix this? • building kernel headers (v3.4) breaks wifi (in Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS)

  I have dual-booted by Samsung Series 5 Chromebook into Ubuntu using Jay Lee's script/instructions, and then installed the ~500 updates that appear thereafter. Now, I am trying to build my kernel headers in an attempt to enable virtualization so that I can run VirtualBox (I have a VM image on a flashdrive). I followed the instructions here: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/chromebook-central/PPQFpC7mYzk mainly doing as olofj suggests in his answer, while also making sure to abide by additions/edits made by panZ and algp. However, now that I have done so, my wifi has stopped working, and when I click on the network icon in the top bar, in place of wifi networks there is a grayed-out message that says "no network devices available". I have an Atheros AR9300 Ethernet card (I think thats what you call it). Any help is much needed and appreciated. Any further details necessary to answer the question will be provided as necessary. • How can I inform search engines that the usefulness of some content on my site has a limited shelf life?

  Let's say that I run a forum dedicated to computer hardware. Naturally, people are going to ask questions like: What is the best laptop for running [os] Or What is the best video card for under [amount] These may be perfectly fine discussions, but the content loses usefulness over time. An answer to either question asked in 2007 might still be relevant in 2008, but definitely not in 2012. Is there a way that I can tell search engines that certain pages might not give visitors what they're looking for after a certain date, and perhaps hint to a page on my site that would provide good information? Perhaps something I could set in HTTP response headers, meta tags or even a site map?

  ok, I have my ATI Radeon 2400XT working properly for longtime on ubuntus (8.04 - 12.04) and recently when I was trying to update (it installs kernal 3.2.0-31 during that update) every think related to ATI including property drivers (that can be activated from additional drivers) are vanished so AMD catalyst control center is not working (it says no amd graphics card is installed) and when opening [additional drivers] it loads and then a box is appear saying (Downloading package indexes failed, please check your network status. Most drivers will not be available.) after searching for additional drivers the window appear saying (no property driver are used on this system). I don't know what happened really! I don't know how to fix this problem either. help!!

  a few days ago I installed ubuntu 11.10 on my friends computer. Despite all of our efforts we are unable to open the default unity and it will only open the 2d interface. I have been told in the IRC chat room that we need to install the graphics card drivers(nvidia geforce 420.) When I check the additional drivers app it doesn't show any to install. I tried installing the ones from the nvidia website but no luck, I also forgot to mention. I don't know if it means anything but he has a 64 bit computer and it is ubuntu 11.10 64bit.

  so after recently reinstalling some drivers I came across the issue detailed in this post How to fix "The system is running in low-graphics mode" error? I run 12.04 on my HP laptop with an Nvidia card. I went to GRUB and loaded failsafex to have the exact same problem described in the response up there, I then attempted to load the terminal, however when I do try and load the terminal I just get a blank screen and nothing else, is there any other easier way to access the terminal. I am quite new to Ubuntu.

  I'm not a computer nerd but have been able to fix Ubuntu/Linux problems in the pass two years with a Google search but this on has me stumped. I upgraded to 12.04 about thirty days ago and all was well except that every time I tried to load KeePassX it would go to the login screen. I installed KeePass2 and all seemed to work. Last week I tried to load Bibble5 (Raw photo editor) and it would try to load and then back to the login screen. After a few days I gave up and downloaded Corel After Shot Pro (Corel's now owns Bibble5) and it has the same problem. Could someone please head me into the steps I need to follow to find out what is the cause? I'm interested in learning more about the Linux system. How to correct any future problems like this? • How do I figure out which version of OpenCL comes with my nvidia-current-dev package?

  I am running Ubuntu 10.04 with an nvidia geforce GT 240 card. I installed nvidia-current-dev with apt-get, thus I got a bunch of headers and lib files for OpenCL. However, I am unable to figure out if I have OpenCL 1.0 or 1.1 (could be 1.2, though I doubt it). Does anyone know a way to figure out which version of OpenCL comes with the nvidia-current-dev package (version: 195.36.24-0ubuntu1~10.04.2)? If not, is there another place where I could get an answer?

  My wifi is not working. I have tried ndiswrapper with the XP driver but that still did not work. Please explain to me in layman's terms. I can run commands so if you tell me exactly what to put, i will put it. Basically, ubuntu is not showing a wireless networks option and when I ran some command yesterday it said the driver was UNCLAIMED. Please help. This is a wintec card with realtek rtl8192E chip on it. It is a desktop computer. On a 20gb partition, other 60gb is for windows(yeah its an old desktop). Use windows installer to install ubuntu(this is one of the dell desktops that wont boot ubuntu from disk). So any help is appreciated and I would like to get this done THIS weekend.

• How to install Radeon Open Source Driver?

  I have an MSI Radeon HD 7850 card. MSI provide no Linux support, and the AMD driver gives me an Unsupported Hardware watermark that does not show up in screenshots. I uninstalled the proprietary driver and found that Unity 3D no longer works, and I really only picked Ubuntu because of the excellent shortcuts provided in the recent versions. Trying to locate the open source driver has been a pain for me. According to the documentation I have read it is pre-included in Ubuntu 12.04, yet there is no Unity 3D support. I tried using the newest drivers from AMD's website, but that also had the watermark. Does anyone know how I can get the open source driver? If not, does anyone know how to remove the watermark. I'm on the verge of going back to Windows.

I managed to get Ubuntu booted but the screen looks like a corrupt/glitch image. I can just about make out the clock on the bottom right and a few icons. I've been told that this is an easy fix and that nomodeset needs to be set for the graphics card but all the solutions i find are for a hard drive installed Ubuntu where you can cd in and edit the grub file - how do you do this is it's in an iso? • Wired internet speed is slow in Ubuntu 12.04

  I have dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 on my Dell N4110 laptop. I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my existing windows 7 hard drive. I am experiencing very slow internet speed on Ubuntu(wired connection). But on Windows,internet is really fast. I disabled ipv6 by editing /etc/sysctl.conf No avail. Then i run the following command. sudo ethtool -s eth0 speed 100 duplex full autoneg off No benefit. I am having "Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller [10ec:8136] (rev 05)" network card.

• Proprietary Driver missing after Kernel upgrade

  I recently upgraded my kernel to the Linux 3.4 kernel. Upon doing so, I found that it zapped my proprietary driver for my graphics card. As an alternative, I had saved Catalyst 12.8, but now it will not open through Software Center. I tried several other terminal methods, but it seems that many of these postings are bunk. They only work until you're almost done and then you get errors. I just need a little help from somebody who has been there, as I am new to Ubuntu. I'm kind of afraid to reboot because this is my 3rd full load of Ubuntu. Any ideas?

  I have an ASUS N56VM-TB71 with a GeForce 630M graphics card. I have ubuntu 12.04 and when I vga plugged in a dell monitor, i am able to use it. When I then use my laptops hdmi port to plug in my second monitor, nothing happens, so I went to nvidia-settings and I got the error: You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X Driver, please run nvidia-xconfig as root and restart the X server. I ran this command and rebooted but I still cannot access nvidia-settings and I keep getting that error even though my /etc/X11/xconf.org is the one that got generated by running that command! What can I do to get around that and use my second monitor as well?

I went through the configuration, chose the one with the highest confirmation for my system and tested it: > Error: Module nvidia does not exist in /proc/modules > P50 Disabling nVidia Card Succeded (the spelling error is theirs) And it changes nothing. I tried other configurations and got worse results. This has really become a major headache. Any solutions?

• Ubuntu 12.04 LTS x86_64 sound artifacts when scrolling with firefox

  I've been using Ubuntu since the 10.04 LTS version and i have a sound problem that still remain in my fresh install of the 12.04 LTS AMD64 version. This install has been performed by formatting the / partition and my documents were kept safe in the separated /home partition. The problem : When i listen to a audio or video source while browsing the web with Firefox, I have some sound artifacts when i'm scrolling and stops when i'm not doing it. This happens when i'm doing X11 related actions too, such as switching between virtuals desktops. • Probelm with ATI catalyst drivers in ubuntu 13.10

  Recently I've installed dual boot ubuntu 13.10 alongside windows 8. My Laptop is Dell Inspiron 15, with AMD Radeon HD 7670 Video Card. Without fglrx my battery is draining to 1:30 hrs from 3:30hrs (In Ubuntu 13.04 but very slow booting ) so I installed fglrx using What is the correct way to install ATI Catalyst Video Drivers (fglrx)? But the problem is as you all know, Black Screen after logging into ubuntu. Tried so many solutions for this like reinstalling unity , ubuntu-desktop , compizconfig , etc.. but none helped except removing fglrx* completely. (But I need them very badly due to battery) Assuming that all hope is lost., Posting here as a final try.! Will be highly greatfull for those who helped :) PS : For those who think this question is a duplicate., Though the question may be a duplicate, but the answer is not! (so give me a assured solution for this problem before flagging this as duplicate., Kindly understand my frustation) Thank You !
