• Can 302 redirect on wordpress homepage affect SEO?

  I manage a website. In order to lead the visitor to the latest post when entering the website, I set a 302 redirect from the homepage URL to the latest post URL. There's 1 to 2 posts a month so the redirection is made manually each time a new post gets published. Despite the website registration on google it doesn't get indexed at all. After searching for some solution on blogs and forums I understood this issue might be related to the 302 redirection. It's the first time I use redirections on a website, can someone help me?

• RabbitVCS suddenly stopped working in Nautilus with Ubuntu 11.04

  A while ago I installed RabbitVCS on Ubuntu 11.04. It then all worked pretty well, but since a few weeks (maybe even more than a month) RabbitVCS suddenly disappeared from the Nautilus context menu. I visited this page: http://wiki.rabbitvcs.org/wiki/support/known-issues and saw some points I could try, but none of them worked out to a working version again. Also this issue Rabbit VCS stopped working after upgrade to 11.10 does not describe the solution for me, so I think it might be something else. I have also tried to reinstall RabbitVCS again from the PPA which was recently updated according to this topic, but no luck. I am still on 11.04 (as I don't like the way Ubuntu is going in newer versions at all) and my Nautilus version is 2.32.2.1 . Is there someone who can help with this one?

• Has anyone used Sproutcore?

  Has anyone used Sproutcore for a web application? If so, can you give me a description of your experience? I am currently considering it, but I have a few concerns. First, the documentation is bad/incomplete, and I'm afraid that I'll spend lots of time figuring things out or digging through source code. Also, I'm a bit hesitant to use a project that is relatively new and could undergo significant changes. Any thoughts from people who have developed in Sproutcore are appreciated! EDIT/PS: Yes, I've seen this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/370598/sproutcore-and-cappuccino . However I'm interested in a bit lengthier description of Sproutcore itself from someone who's used it for a significant project.

• First time using Ubuntu, need help with drivers!

  I have just successfully built my first computer last night. I went through the boot menu and got Ubuntu 12.10 installed properly and everything. My question is...now what? There has to be some sort of drivers I need to install right? I can't connect to wi-fi or anything of that sort. I have an ASUS motherboard, model number M4N98TD EVO , and an NVIDIA Geforce GTX 650 grpahics card. I guess my main question is, can someone run me through step by step what I need to do after I install Ubuntu?

• Not mounting/finding 1TB NTFS drive

  I am having trouble with Ubuntu recognizing/finding/mounting one of my hard drives. I dual boot Ubuntu and Windows 7. I had Ubuntu 10.04 and all drives showed up under "Places" I could click on any of my Windows/NTFS drives and they would mount as they should. I have since updated to Ubuntu 10.10. One of my drives no longer shows up in "Places" or in Nautilus. I can open gparted and it is listed there, but if I try to click the mount button, I get an error. I am currently at work and can not post any screenshots or errors, but will happily do so later. I was just hoping that someone might be able to give me something to try when I get home. 250gig SATA hard drive (Windows7/NTFS) - recognized/mountable 200gig PATA hard drive (Ubuntu 10.10) - recognized (obviously) 1TB SATA hard drive (NTFS) - not recognized/won't mount Thanks!

• URL Rewrite http to https EXCEPT files in a specific subfolder

  I am trying to force all traffic on my web site to use HTTPS, using the URL Rewrite 2.0 module added to IIS 7.5. I got that working and now have a need to exclude a couple of pages from using SSL. So I need a rule to rewrite all URL except those referencing this folder to HTTPS. I've been banging my head against the wall on this and am hoping someone can help. I tried creating a rule to match all URL except those in a nossl subfolder as in this example: <rule name="HTTP to HTTPS redirect" enabled="true" stopProcessing="true"> <match url="(/nossl/.*)" negate="true" /> <conditions logicalGrouping="MatchAll" trackAllCaptures="false"> <add input="{HTTPS}" pattern="off" /> </conditions> <action type="Redirect" url="https://{HTTP_HOST}/{R:1}" redirectType="Found" /> </rule> But this doesn't work. • Yet Another Static Blog Generator

  In the spirit of hobbyist adventures, I made a static blog generator in C# with the help of MarkdownSharp (from the StackOverflow Guys, I think). Inspired from static blog generators like Jekyll, it does things Jekyll can’t do (aren’t built in)- it has a GUI and can generate feeds. Of course, it’s Windows Only and it’s somewhat limited too.   Alright so I've had Linux Ubuntu 12.04 for over a year now and I still don't know anything about it. That only thing I can do with it is use the internet. I want to start streaming games that I play on my computer to Twitch.tv., but I don't know how. All of the downloads are only for windows. I found a website that tells you how to do it, but since I know nothing about linux, I can't do it. I haven't been able to get past the first step yet. • Usefulness of the Backlinks shown in Webmaster Tools

  Is the list of links for a site shown in Google Webmaster Tools a complete list or just a sample? I've noticed that the links in there appear to be all the ones I didn't think would have any real value - either because they were nofollow or from irrelivant sites. The few I did think would be some use have never shown up and there's also some links that are sometimes there and sometimes not (such as my linkedIn profile). Does this mean that the missing links don't/no longer carry any value? It almost appears that the list is there for Google to either inform you about problems (there was a useful list there when someone tried to SPAM my site) or mis-imform you about which link-building strategies work or not (to keep people guessing about what works or not).

• wireless not connecting in 12.04 update

  I just updated from 10.04 to 12.04. I am not very knowledgeable at all with Ubuntu since it is still relatively new to me. I went through the whole update today and yesterday and now that it is finished it will not acknowledge that there are any wireless connections around, nor does it give me an option to pick one. it just tells me what ones I've used in the past. is there any way that someone can help me? I have read through and attempted almost every fix that everyone has found and nothing is working and I'm super confused.

• Toshiba Satellite a300 with Maverick keeps crashing.

  I just installed 10.10 on my girlfriends Toshiba Satellite a300 and for about two days it has been working just fine for two days but today it started acting pretty wonky. Several times over the machine just dies as if it didn't have a battery and someone yanked out the power supply. After such a crash I'll have to wait a while before powering it up again or it will die before it even reaches the startup screen. It sort of seems like it's reacting to something I do. I kept it on for several hours while we were out of the house and it was still fine when I came back. I haven't been doing anything I can imagine is especially CPU-intensive when the crashes occur, but I have been trying to set up her iPod with Rythmbox and / or Banshee. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful.

• Need to set up shared storage for Guest virtual machines that are running on a Xen host

  My environment: I am doing these things at home with the purpose of learning about virtualization techniques. My machine have quad core processor that supports Intel-VT and 8GB RAM. XEN is the virtualization platform. In short, all domUs are LVM based. Mainly I have two questions; I need to have shared storage for these VMs. Something like NFS / NAS / iSCSI etc. However, I don't know which one is the best solution. Therefore, can someone tell me which suits best? Please note that, this shared storage need to be accessed by the other physical machines in the network. • Separate urls for a set of pages sharing 80% duplicate content

  Issue: Currently my site has one particular page which has country specific data. So I've URLs like : mysite.com/sale-united-states mysite.com/sale-united-kingdom mysite.com/sale-sweden etc. All these pages have 80-90% common content and 10-20% country specific content. currently all these pages canonically point to mysite.com/sale-united-states. The problem is when someone searches for "sale Sweden", Google correctly shows mysite.com/sale-united-states page, which does not feel correct as it shows US page instead of Sweden. Now I'm thinking of not using canonical url so that country specific urls are produced in Google saerch. But I'm not sure how 80% duplicate content is going to affect SEO? What should be the recommended approach for this situation? A friend of mine suggested a "separate subdomain per country" based approach but it seems overkill for one page.

• Alps touchpad detected as mouse dell inspiron n5110

  Now I know that this has been asked several times here but I couldn't find any decent solution to it. So I am running the latest Ubuntu on my dell n5110 and my touchpad is detected as a mouse, So I don't have the touchpad options avaliable. can't use multitouch and can't disable it either. I have tried the dkms driver: http://people.canonical.com/~sforshee/alps-touchpad/psmouse-alps-0.10/ but when installing it with dpkg I get the following error: ERROR (dkms apport): unable to determine source package for psmouse-alps-dkms Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 3.2.0-25-generic-pae (i686) Consult /var/lib/dkms/psmouse-alps/0.10/build/make.log for more information. I have installed all the updates as well. Can someone help me out with this issue?

• FFmpeg & Installation on phpmyadmin

  I am attempting to have an interface in which people can upload music files and listen to them through the site. The biggest problem obviously is that someone who uploads an audio track in mp3 format into Mozilla wouldn't be able to play it back (since MF doesn't support mp3 playback since I'm using jPlayer). I did some research and found out that I could use command line php using FFmpeg to convert the mp3 to ogg or some other supportable format. I believe I understand (a little bit) how command line php works but I was wondering how I could install it onto phpmyadmin on my hosting service? Could anyone link me to a tutorial or care to explain? I tried googling it but I just couldn't find it.

  Consider this scenario: I am developing a program FooSuite that uses a GPL-licenced library QuuxTools I release the program FooSuite 1.0 under GPL Later on I discover that, for some reason, I need to licence the program to someone on different terms. Hence: I remove the dependency on GPL via QuuxTools, by either... rewriting the program not to use this library any longer obtaining a different licence for QuuxTools (if it's dual-licenced; see PyQt) I release FooSuite 1.1 under a non-GPL licence. However, FooSuite 1.1 is still a derivative work from FooSuite 1.0. I understand that it's not legal for a stranger to do what I did, but am I myself - as the owner of FooSuite - free from this restriction?

  Hi, I'm not a software expert but need to outsource a web-based scientific GUI application, and I'm considering Adobe Flex. My math routines are currently in Javascript and C/C+. Having no experience with Flex, was hoping someone could help me understand what options are available for performing (preferably fast and efficient) CLIENT-side calculations. That is, can Flex interact with Javascript and/or C easily? If not, is actionscript or other language preferred? Downsides/tradeoffs? Need functions like LOG10, LN, SQRT, and would be nice to also have the error function (ERF) and complementary error function (ERFC), although I may be able to derive these last two from more basic functions if necessary. • Is it important to obfuscate C++ application code?

  In the Java world, it seems to sometimes be a problem, but, what about C++? Are there different solutions? I was thinking about the fact that someone can replace the C++ library of a specific OS with a different version of the same library, but full of debug symbols to understand what my code does. IS tt a good thing to use standard or popular libraries? This can also happen with some dll library under Windows replaced with the "debug version" of that library. Is it better to prefer static compilation? In commercial applications, I see that for the core of their app they compile everything statically and for the most part the dlls (dynamic libraries in general) are used to offer some third party technologies like anti-piracy solutions (I see this in many games), GUI library (like Qt), OS libraries, etc. Is static compilation the equivalent to obfuscation in the Java world? In better terms, is it the best and most affordable solution to protect your code?

• failing to boot after ''succesfully'' restoring from deja dup backup

  Before upgrading to 12.04, I completely backed up 11.10 oneiric with deja-dup. In 12.04 I had major nvidia-related problems, so I decided to roll back to 11.10. I tried to restore from the backup and at first failed several times with "an uknown error occured". I reformated my hard drive, installed a fresh copy of 11.10 on the hard drive, and tried the restore again, with no success. I then booted from a live usb and ran the restore again after mounting the file system. I chose the restore location to be "file system" and the restore completed successfully, or so it said. After restarting my PC, all I got was a 'no operating system' error. I remounted my partition chrooted and installed the kernel. I am working now but my question concerns the restore. Why didn't the restore worked? I'm hoping someone has thought of something that I have not.
