  • Windows 7 updates KB978601 and KB979309 fail with error 800736B3

    Everytime I try to install this 2 updates I get the same error while I've succesfully installed other updates. I've tried to disable NOD32 antivirus and Spybot resident with no result. I've also tried to download the updates and open with the Windows Update Standalone Installer but it comes up with a message which states "The update is not applicable to your computer".

  • n900 Windows driver

    Hi all, I have an n900 and am attempting to use it for tethering. On Ubuntu Linux, this works perfectly fine, I don't need to install any drivers; however, on the Windows equivalent - Windows XP in my case, I don't seem to have any drivers for it. Is there a driver I need to download to make this happen, if so, where can I find it? Thanks, Walter

Perhaps, I am not using right VT100 emulation. How can I test it and how can I get the ASCII codes working from commandline with Screen?

  • How to remove a plain text protecting single quote from all the selected cells in LibreOffice Calc?

    I've imported a CSV file having the first column to be date-time values in ISO 8601 format like 2012-01-01T00:00:00.000Z for the first moment of the year 2012. Then, willing to make LibreOffice to recognize the format (as I was looking forward to plot a diagram), I've selected the column, chosen Format Cells... and entered the custom time format as YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS.000Z And this seems to work if... I edit a cell to remove a hidden single-quote from its beginning (which serves to protect a cell content from being interpreted) as all the newly formatted cells now store values like '2012-01-01T00:00:00.000Z (note the single quote - it is only visible when you edit a particular cell). And I am to do so for all the cells in the column. How can I automate this? UPDATE: I've already found a solution for the particular case of mine: it helps to set a column format to "time" in the CSV import dialogue. But I am still curious how could this be done in case I wouldn't have the original .csv data file to import but only the .ods file with the data already imported without the format specified at the import time.

    In PowerShell, I type: PS C: sal cdp "cd 'C:\Users\ec\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Projects'" I get no error from this, and PS C: gal cdp shows definition as: cd 'C:\Users\ec\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Projects' But, when I try to use cdp, I get this: Cannot resolve alias 'cdp' because it refers to term 'cd 'C:\Users\ec\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Projects'', which is not recognized as a cmdlet, function, operable program, or script file. Verify the term and try again. At line:1 char:4 + cdp <<<<  + CatergoryInfo   : ObjectNotFound (dsp:String) [], CommandNotFoundException  + FullyQualifiedErrorId   : AliasNotResolvedException I am guessing that this is trivially easy. So I apologize in advance if that is the case. I have googled and googled and have also read through Windows PowerShell Cookbook.

  • How to fix Firefox Blue Screen of Death?

    I am running Windows XP SP3 and Firefox v3.6.2 and have an issue with Firefox causing the Blue Screen of Death. If I run in Windows safe mode, it does not occur, but running normally, it seems my firefox profile is going bad and results in certain web pages causing the BSOD. For example, presently, if I visit ebay.com, it gets BSOD. Before it was happening on google.com, but IT removed my Firefox profile and that seemed to fix the Google failure. However, now it has started occurring on ebay. I turned off all extensions and it still occurs. I'd like to fix my system so this does not occur. The IT folks don't seem to be able to solve this, so I am trying to fix it on my own. The BSOD is about something like (from memory) IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL. Why would safe mode avoid the issue and what does that tell us about the probable cause? I don't want to have to keep deleting my profile, so I'd like to find out the cause of the corruption.

    While doing a Complete PC Backup in Windows 7 I received dialog reading: Windows Backup...error The backup did not complete successfully. Open the Backup and Restore Control Panel to view settings From there I clicked the Options button. Windows Backup: Troubleshooting Options Check your backup Windows Backup encountered invalid MediaID.bin file on the drive where the backup is saved. Restore from a different backup or delete the MediaID.bin file and try to create another backup. The MediaID.bin file can be found under \MediaID.Bin & \\MediaId.Bin. I deleted the file in question (MediaID.bin) from X:\ (one of the drives being backedup( and tried the backup again. Next I was presented with a dialog that read: Windows Backups: Troubleshooting Options Check your backup The system connot find the file specified. When I draw a curved line with the pen tool, the only option I see for making a line out of the path is "Stroke path", which is not vector (raster).   • Internal drives vs USB-3 with external SSD or eSata with External SSD

    I have a need to carry VMWare Virtual Machines with me for work. These are very large files (each VM is 20GB or more) and I carry around about 40 to 50 VM's to simulate different software configurations for different client needs. Key: they won't fit on the internal hard drive of my current laptop. I currently execute the VM's from an external 7200RPM 2.5" USB-2 drive. I keep copies of the VM's on other 5400 external USB-2 drives. The VM's work from this drive, but they are slow, costing me much time and frustration. It can take upwards of 30 minutes just to make a copy of one of the VM's. They can take upwards of 10-15 minutes to fully launch and then they operate sluggishly. I am buying a new laptop (Core I7, 8GB RAM and other high-end specs). I intend to buy an SSD for the O/S volume (C:). This SSD will not be large enough to hold the VM's. I have always wanted a second internal hard drive to operate the VM's. To have two hard drives, though, I am finding that I will have to go to a 17" laptop which would be bulky/heavy. I am instead considering purchasing a 15" laptop with either an eSATA port or USB-3 ports and then purchasing two external drives. One of the drives might be an external SSD (maybe OCX brand) for operating the VM's and the other a 7400RPM 1TB hard drive for carrying around the VM's not currently in use. The question is which options would give me the biggest bang for the buck and the weight: 1) 2nd Internal SSD hard drive. This would mean buying a 17" laptop with two drive "bays". The first bay would hold an SSD drive for the C: drive. I would leave the first bay empty from the manufacture and then purchase/install an aftermarket SSD drive. This second SSD drive would have to be very large (256 GB), which would be expensive. I would still also need another external hard drive for carrying around the VM's not in use. 2) 2nd internal hard drive - 7400 RPM. Again, a 17" laptop would be required, but there are models available with on SSD drive for the C: drive and a second 7200 RPM hard drives. The second drive could probably be large enough to hold the VM's in use as well as those not in use. But would it be fast enough to drive the VM's? 3) USB-3 with External SSD. I could buy a 15" laptop with an SSD drive for the C: drive and a second hard drive for general files. I would operate the VM's from an external USB-3 SSD drive and have a third USB-3 external 7200 RPM drive for holding the VM's not in use. 4) eSATA with External SSD. Ditto, just eSATA instead of USB-3 5) USB-3 with External 7400 RPM drive. Ditto, but the drive running the VM's would be USB-3 attached 7400 RPM drives rather than SSD. 6) eSATA with External 7400 RPM drive. Dittor, but the drive running the VM's would be eSATA attached 7400 RPM drives rather than SSD. Any thoughts on this and any creative solutions?

  • OpenVPN Bridge LAN-to-LAN Configuration?

    I'm trying to configure an OpenVPN bridge LAN-to-LAN setup. Currently, I have the OpenVPN bridge Server/Client setup up running. On the server-side my br-lan interface has tap0, eth0, and wlan0 in the bridge group. On the client-side the br-lan interface has eth0 and wlan0 in the bridge group, the client tap0 is outside of the br-lan group. Currently the two bridge groups are connected via the wlanO interfaces (server-side is the Access Point - AP and the client-side is the wireless client). My goal is to connect the two bridge groups with a wireless VPN pipe. My network configuration: Server: br-lan: 10.4.96.50 Client: br-lan: 10.4.96.75 tap0: 10.4.96.100 <---- issued by the VPN server. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with using a bridge instead of a routed OpenVPN setup. My question is how (if possible) do I add the client tap0 interface to the client bridge group, as to ensure all traffic between the server/client bridge groups is using the VPN pipe?   • powerpoint make computer shut down on dell optiplex 760

    hello, At my office we upgraded group of computers to windows 7 + office 2010, few of us have problem that when we work on powerpoint - once in a while the computer suddenly shut down (with out any message). Some of us - has no such problems. We checked and fount that the people who experience problems - use Dell Optiplex 760 PC, and everyone that have no problems use other models. We also found out that the processors of the 760's are not the same - some are Intel E7400 and one is Intel E8400, so I suspect that maybe the mother board is the problem Does any one no this problem?     I have bought a ACER Aspire 5736Z-4790 laptop for my parents. It just passed the warranty. I think the hard disk is bad now. I cannot open/copy some of my files. It will crash (blue screen) when I do chkdsk /f/r in the stage 4 of 5 which is verifying file data. I can hear a strange noise when it is reading the bad sectors (I guess because it hangs there.) I am thinking replace the hard disk. should I buy the same hard disk or any SATA laptop hard disk will be ok? BTW, is there a way to repair it (with software)?

But when i run a 3-D program in System A and try to view it from System B, i see the screen frame by frame. The response time is too slow. My Req. is to show the 3-D program to another person. How can i make VNC faster, to its best ?
