    I am developing a Django website. I've been using django-registration for user registration so far but I would really like to allow users to login to my site using their Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc accounts. I am using addthis sharing buttons. I just noticed they introduced a social sign in solution. The idea seems great, you integrate your authentication system with their service once, and your users can login via all of the popular social networking sites. Has anybody integrated addthis social signin plugin with a django website? How can you use it along side django-registration? Are there any similar, alternative solutions?

The application breaks when I call Spine.Route.setup() Uncaught TypeError: Object function (element) {return element;} has no method 'extend' Any help would be greatly appreciated

    I am working on windows. I am building a twitter application which periodically checks for new tweets as well as allows users to update their status. I have written separate PHP files for reading (reader.php) and writing tweets (writer.php). The only problem is how do I periodically read the tweets. There are a few ways which I can think of - 1) Use a time-based job scheduler (like Cron) to periodically run the reader.php. How do I do this? 2) Use multithreading to run both reader and writer.php and use a timer function in reader.php Suggestions?

  • Key word extraction in Python

    I'm building a website in django that needs to extract key words from short (twitter-like) messages. I've looked at packages like topia.textextract and nltk - but both seem to be overkill for what I need to do. All I need to do is filter words like "and", "or", "not" while keeping nouns and verbs that aren't conjunctives or other parts of speech. Are there any "simpler" packages out there that can do this? EDIT: This needs to be done in near real-time on a production website, so using a keyword extraction service seems out of the question, based on their response times and request throttling.

    I working with the latest draft of the twitter annotations api. An example bit of data looks like status { annotations : [ {myAnnotationType:{myKey:myValue}}, {someoneElsesAnnotationType:{theirKey:theirValue}}, ] } now i want to check a status to see if it has an annotation with myAnnotationType in it. If annotations was a hash instead of an array I could just write var ann = status.annotations.myAnnotationType. But its not so I wrote this instead: function getKeys(obj){ var keys = []; for (key in obj) { if (obj.hasOwnProperty(key)) { keys[keys.length] = key; } } return keys; } function getAnnotation(status, type){ for(var i=0;i<status.annotations.length;i++){ var keys = getKeys(status.annotations[i]); for(var j=0;j<keys.length;j++){ if(keys[j] == type){ return status.annotations[i]; } } } } var ann = getAnnotation(status, "myAnnotationType"); There must be a better way!   • Re-measuring custom item renderer on a List

    I'm writing an Adobe Air client to a service similar to Twitter. On the timeline (List component) I have a custom item renderer which is basically a Canvas with a fixed-width Image and a Text control, which is multi-line. If the text is long enough to change the Canvas height, it will only be resized if I manually change the width of the Window, forcing a redraw of all renderers. If I simply scroll through the List, all "new" renderers will have the minimum height possible (which is the Image height). Any ideas on how to force the re-measurement of the renderer when I set it's data? Thanks in advance! :)

    I have created a theme where I already have a custom options page where I let the user set text for footer, twitter user and some other things and that works well. Now i'd like to add the functionality of letting the user select which font that should be used for content on the site. How can i accomplish this? I can probably create a php file that outputs something like: <style type="text/css"> body{ font-family: <?php echo get_option('my-font');?>; } </style> and include that file in header.php, but that means that I have to hit php for every request for this css and I want to avoid that if posssible.

  • Making JSON Feed Work Server to Server

    I have a JSON feed (which I don't directly control, I have to ask the server admins to update it), that is returning NULL, or otherwise not working when I try to access it from another server. The actual feed works fine, but I can't get it to work like a normal API. Why can I use Flickr, WhitePages, Twitter, etc's JSON APIs, but for: http://portlandoregon.gov/shared/cfm/json.cfm It returns NULL in the browser when using JS. If I call it on the same server, it's fine though. If this is a server issue, what do I ask the admins to change, and if this is a local (browser) based issue, what am I doing wrong for this one feed that works for every other JSON API?

    Hey. I'm caching tweets on my site (with 30 min expiration time). When the cache is empty, the first user to find out will repopulate it. However, at that time the Twitter API may return a 200. In that case I'd like to prolong the previous data for another 30 mins. But the previous data will already be lost. So instead I'd like to look into repopulating the cache, say, 5 minutes before expiration time so that I don't lose any date. So how do I know the expiration time of an item when using php's memcache::get()? Also, is there a better way of doing this?

  • Is Python a beginner language or is it robust?

    I am already working on some software in Python but I'm having one of those days where I step back and reflect just to make sure I'm not spinning my wheels. I know that Twitter launched with RoR because it was fast to build. Then they almost moved into another language in 2008 because of scalability issues. This has caused me to step back and introspect for a moment to make sure I'm heading down the right path. I've read in some tutorials and other places that Python is "a great first language" or a "nice beginner language" as though it's not capable of larger tasks. I look at it as Python can do what Java or ASP can but with about 1/4th of the code, not to mention I don't have to build or compile, etc. I've read that Java runs quite a few times faster than Python which is important of course, but then I read everywhere that hardware keeps getting cheaper and there are projects like Unladen Swallow by Google to make Python faster. Should I be concerned or is this just the remnants of Java developers?

I will be running the script on a cronjob and then displaying the tweets on my site from the database to prevent hitting the limit on the twitter API. So I don't want to have duplicate tweets in my database, I understand I can use 'INSERT...ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE' to achieve this, but I don't quite understand how to use it. My database structure is as follows. Table - Hash id (auto_increment) tweet user user_url And currently my SQL to insert is as follows: $tweet = $clean_content[0]; $user_url = $clean_uri[0]; $user = $clean_name[0]; $query='INSERT INTO hash (tweet, user, user_url) VALUES ("'.$tweet.'", "'.$user.'", "'.$user_url.'")'; mysql_query($query); How would I correctly use 'INSERT...ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE' to insert only if it doesn't exist, and update if it does?     Hey, I'm experiencing some problems with Google's social graph API. It seems that for some parameters passed to 'otherme' nothing is returned. I'll use Robert Scoble's profiles as an example (as he's a guy sure to be everywhere on the web). If I query: http://socialgraph.apis.google.com/otherme?q=http://twitter.com/scobleizer&pretty=1 I get results, as expected. However, if I query: http://socialgraph.apis.google.com/otherme?q=http://delicious.com/scobleizer&pretty=1 Nothing is returned, even though 'http://delicious.com/scobleizer' is listed in the previous results...
