• Masking to Transparent returns empty image

  Hi there, I'm trying to put white color in my images to transparent with the following code. Problem is that "CGImageRef maskedTransparent" is blank. I don't understand because the code I'm using is nearly a copy paste from the doc ... Any idea ?   I'm using the low-level google datastore api and I want to query by the key property and another property (let's call it category). I need to query based on a list of keys for which I'll use the IN operator. I know that the max. number of values you can provide for the IN clause is 30. I have 2 questions: Does the limit of 30 IN values apply to the key property as well? Do I need to create a composite index on {_key_ + category} or just on {category} for this query? Thanks, Keyur

  Hi! Is it smart to keep arrays in table columns? More precisely I am thinking of the following schema which to my understanding violates normalization: create table Permissions( GroupID int not null default(-1), CategoryID int not null default(-1), Permissions varchar(max) not null default(''), constraint PK_GroupCategory primary key clustered(GroupID,CategoryID) ); and this: create table Permissions( GroupID int not null default(-1), CategoryID int not null default(-1), PermissionID int not null default(-1), constraint PK_GroupCategory primary key clustered(GroupID,CategoryID) ); UPD: Forgot to mention, in the scope of this concrete question we will consider that the "fetch rows that have permission X" won't be performed, instead all the lookups will be made by GroupID and CategoryID only Thoughts? • AJAX response inside jqplot not working

  I'm trying to render data from an AJAX response as a bar chart with jqplot. To render this bar chart I use two variables: s1 which contains the numbers ex: s1 = [22,67,32,89] ticks which contains the name corresponding to a number inside s1 ex: ticks = ["Jack", "Mary", "Paul", "John"] So my AJAX returns two variables, data1 and data2. • How to make scipy.interpolate give a an extrapolated result beyond the input range?

  I'm trying to port a program which uses a hand-rolled interpolator (developed by a mathematitian colleage) over to use the interpolators provided by scipy. I'd like to use or wrap the scipy interpolator so that it has as close as possible behavior to the old interpolator. A key difference between the two functions is that in our original interpolator - if the input value is above or below the input range, our original interpolator will extrapolate the result. If you try this with the scipy interpolator it raises a ValueError. Consider this program as an example: import numpy as np from scipy import interpolate x = np.arange(0,10) y = np.exp(-x/3.0) f = interpolate.interp1d(x, y) print f(9) print f(11) # Causes ValueError, because it's greater than max(x) Is there a sensible way to make it so that instead of crashing, the final line will simply do a linear extrapolate, continuing the gradients defined by the first and last two pouints to infinity. Note, that in the real software I'm not actually using the exp function - that's here for illustration only!

• Copying a 14bit grayscale image (saved in long[]) to a pictureBox

  My camera gives me 14bit grayscale images, but the API's function returns a long* to the image data. (so i'm assuming 4 bytes for each pixel) My application is written in C++/CLI, and the pictureBox is of .NET type. I am currently using the BitmapData.LockBits() mechanism to gain pointer access to the image data, and using memcpy(bmpData.Scan0.ToPointer(), imageData, sizeof(long)*height*width) to copy the image data to the Bitmap. For now, the only PixelFormat that is working is 32bit RGB, and the image appears in shades of blue with contours. Trying to initialize the Bitmap as 16bppGrayscale isn't working. I would ideally want to cast the array from long to word and using a 16bit format (hoping the the 14bit data will be displayed properly) but I'm not sure if this works. Also, I don't want to iterate over the image data, so finding the min/max and then histogram stretching to [0..255] isnt an option for me (the display must be as efficient as possible) Thanks

  I'm trying to print Invoices in a Java Swing applications. I do that by extending Printable and implement the method public int print(Graphics g, PageFormat pf, int page). I would like to draw strings in columns, and when the string is to long I want to clip it and let it end with "...". How can I measure the string and clip it at the right position? Some of my code: Font headline = new Font("Times New Roman", Font.BOLD, 14); g2d.setFont(headline); FontMetrics metrics = g2d.getFontMetrics(headline); g2d.drawString(myString, 0, 20); I.e How can I limit myString to be max 120px?   my view generates keys in this format ["job_id:1234567890", 1271430291000] where the first key element is a unique key and the second is a timestamp in milliseconds. A full example (using a very small file!) is: 1) my file contains the following bits 000011110000111 2) I need a procedure to QUICKLY convert it to 0F0F 3) I will call a sql server function passing 0x0F0F as parameter The problem is that I have large files (up to 100MB, even if average file size is 100KB files are possible), so I need the fastest way to do this. • Making sure unsigned int/long always execute in checked context in C#

  Has anyone found it strange that the default context for uint and ulong is unchecked rather than checked considering that they are meant to represent values that can never be negative? So if some code is trying to violate that constraint it seems to me the natural and preferred behaviour would be to throw an exception rather than returning the max value instead (which can easily leave important pieces of data in an invalid state and impossible to revert..). Is there an existing attribute which can be applied to either class/assembly so that it always performs arithmetic operations in a checked context? I was thinking of writing one myself (as an aspect using PostSharp) but would be great if there's one already. Many thanks,

• For Loop help In a Hash Cracker Homework.

  On the homework I am working on we are making a hash cracker. I am implementing it so as to have my cracker. java call worker.java. Worker.java implements Runnable. Worker is to take the start and end of a list of char, the hash it is to crack, and the max length of the password that made the hash. I know I want to do a loop in run() BUT I cannot think of how I would do it so it would go to the given max pasword length. I have posted the code I have so far. Any directions or areas I should look into.... I thought there was a way to do this with a certain way to write the loop but I don't know or can't find the correct syntax. Oh.. also.   I just saw the first git tutorial at http://blip.tv/play/Aeu2CAI How does git store all the versions of all the files and still be more economical in space than subversion which saves only the latest version of the code? I know this can be done using compression but that would be at the cost of speed, but this also says that git is much faster (though where is gains the max is the fact that most of its operations are offline). So, my guess is that git compresses data extensively it is still faster because uncompression + work is still faster than network_fetch + work Am I correct? even close?

• Numpy modify array in place?

  I have the following code which is attempting to normalize the values of an m x n array (It will be used as input to a neural network, where m is the number of training examples and n is the number of features). However, when I inspect the array in the interpreter after the script runs, I see that the values are not normalized; that is, they still have the original values. I guess this is because the assignment to the array variable inside the function is only seen within the function. How can I do this normalization in place? For this line,using qsort: qsort(catalog, MAX ,sizeof catalog, struct_cmp_by_amount); I get this warning: warning: passing argument 4 of ‘qsort’ makes pointer from integer without a cast struct_cmp_by_amount is another function on the program. BUT,for another program with the same code, with the same exactly struct_cmp_by_amount function, i dont get that warning for the 4th argument! qsort(structs, structs_len, sizeof(struct st_ex), struct_cmp_by_price); I'm wandering about why that;s happening.
