• Attach a Wordpress.org blog to my BigCommerece Store as a sub-domain

  I am stuck in a peculiar situation. I have a store on BigCommerece configured with a domain from GoDaddy (mystore.com). I recently created a custom wordpress blog and hosted it on 1and1 hosting (s418783372.onlinehome.us), since bigcommerece can't host Wordpress. Now I want to use it from a sub-domain of my main-bigcommerece store (models.mystore.com), but it doesn't seem to be working since BigCommerce is the Doman Manager, but GoDaddy is the Domain-Registrar and 1and1 is the host so it doesn't control the domain. I have tried setting up a CNAME record on BigCommerece and when it didn't work asked BigCommerece about it, but they said they can't do anything about it since they aren't the domain registrar and gave me a message saying: The responsiblity to show the name in the browser on the site is up to the server or site admin. The Cname can only get the browser there

• Tracking a goal through a virtual pageview is not registering

  I am trying to track a goal in Google Analytics through a virtual pageview. As you can see in the code example, it is linking out from a picture instead of text with a link. I triple-checked to see if I had my Goals set up properly in the Admin panel, where the goal URL is set to "/click2", the goal type is URL destination and the match type is Head Match. I am unsure if the problem lies in the fact that it's linking out to an "https" link or if the link is attached to a picture that serves as a Call To Action. I would appreciate if any of you can help shed some light on this problem I'm having.

• How to organize my site's file system properly?

  Doing some reading on Stack Overflow, I've found a lot of information suggesting that proper organization of a file system is crucial to a well-written web app. One of the key pieces of evidence is high-frequency references to "separation of concerns" in questions related to keeping programs organized. Now, I've found some information on organizing file systems (Filesystem Hierarchy Standard) from 2004. It raises only two concerns: first, the standard's a bit dated, so I believe it may be possible to do better given the changes in technology over the past 8 years; second, and most important, my application is very small compared to an entire Linux distro. I think that the file system should be organized very differently because of that. Here's what I'm looking at, currently: /scripts, /databases, /www -> /dev, /production -> login, router, admin pages, /sites -> content types, static pages /modules, /includes, /css, /media -> /module-specific-media

• dual boot, Sony Viao, all in one portable desktop, not working and crashes

  I am a fan of Ubuntu but ever since I bought my new computers, both Sony Vaio, I can't get them running together with windows 8.1. When I try wubi, it doesn't show the install box, but some other information box. If I remove wubi from the iso and run it as admin on my desktop, it runs and installs but after rebooting, grub never comes up and it gives the error screen.. On my laptop, I had to make a usb install and partition everything myself and that worked for my laptop, for a little while. Windows boot loader would override and grub wouldn't come up no more, unless I try to boot from usb, with no usb in, and after it reboots because there is no usb, now grub opens, but doesn't cont. That is what happens with my Sony 2 in 1 laptop. My all in one portable just wont boot it period. Bios is the problem but I disabled everything that was necessary. Help

• wordpress restored from backup asking for ftp

  I backed up my /var/www/wordpress folder to my external harddisk and restored it back. Now when I add a new plugin I am asked for ftp access to my localhost. I wonder why ? As far as I could go /var/www/wordpress and its subfolders/files are own'ed by root. I have logged in to my wordpress as admin root. I dont know why I need to setup ftpd, but I tried that too. • Joomla: Prevent certain user from visiting a certain page

  I have an internal section in my Joomla only for "Registered" users. There they can edit preferences. Multiple users can access the same preferences (different stakeholders). Now I have "smithcorp" and "smithcorp_guest". They should both be able to view the same things, but "smithcorp_guest" shouldn't be able to edit the preferences. Is there a way to forbid "smithcorp_guest" access to this page? I have only seen access regulation via the user level, i.e. unregistered, registered, admin. Thanks, MrB

• (Joomla 1.6) Template position descriptions don't refresh

  I want to change a description of a template position, so when I go to Admin-Extensions-Module Manager I see a different description of a module position in the position list when I edit a module. However, when I change (for instance) the template 'beez_20' and want to rename the name of the position 'debug', I change the description (TPL_BEEZ_20_POSITION_DEBUG) in the language file 'languages\en-GB\en-GB.tpl_beez_20.sys.ini' to something different, say 'Abracadabra'. However, the changes don't appear in the position list and I can find no reference whatsoever of how or when the ini files are read or maybe cached. Does anyone has a clue?

• Convincing Upper Management the need of larger monitors for Developers

  The company I work for has recently hired on several developers, and there are a limited number of monitors to go around. There are two types in the office - a standard 15" (thankfully flatscreen) and a widescreen 23". No developer has a machine capable of a dual monitor setup, and the largest monitors went to the people who got here first. Three or four new senior level developers only have a 15" monitor to work on. To make matters worse, there are perhaps a total of 25-30 DBAs/Testers/Admin types in the company who all have dual screen 23" setups. We have brought the issue to management, and they refuse to take away large monitors from people who have been here for years for the sake of new employees, even if they are senior level. We have pitched the idea of testers sacrificing a large monitor for one of our small ones, but they won't go for that either. What can I say to management to illustrate the need of monitors for developers?

• How do I download a corrupted package again?

  Ubuntu 12.04 can't install Firefox 13 update, because the package is corrupted. While attempting to install, returns this error (I translated it from my language to English). /var/cache/apt/archives/firefox_13.0+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1_i386.deb W: Waited for dpkg --assert-multi-arch but was not there - dpkgGo (10: There are no "child" processes). I can tell that the package at /var/cache/apt/archives/firefox_13.0+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1_i386.deb is corrupted, but even as admin, I can't delete it in order to be downloaded again.   Please go easy on me. I'm a clutzy dinosaur. I currently have a large, unwieldy website hand-coded in html/css with php includes. It currently has a single WP installation in a subdirectory. The plan is to reorganize, and I want to use WP as the CMS and incorporate 3 WP blogs for 3 subdomains. Ideally, would like to create a WP multisite network to allow for further expansion and to save admin trouble. I just want to confirm that if I install WP in the root directory and create 3 blogs (in subdomains), does this mean my website's home page is the mother blog's index.php? Essentially, I will have created 4 blogs - mother at root and 3 children in subdomains? How to set this up on my Mac (OSX 10.5.8) running MAMP for development? And then how to migrate to server without breaking?

• Ubuntu server 12.04 on AWS - How does the passwordless sudo work for the ubuntu user?

  I'm using Ubuntu server 12.04 on Amazon. I want to add a new user that has the same behaviour as the default ubuntu user. Specifically I want passwordless sudo for this new user. So I've added a new user and went to edit /etc/sudoers (using visudo of course). From reading that file it seemed like the default ubuntu user was getting it's passwordless sudo from being a member of the admin group. So I added my new user to that. Which didn't work. Then I tried adding the NOPASSWD directive to sudoers. Which also didn't work. Anyway, now I'm just curious. How does the ubuntu user get passwordless privileges if they aren't defined in /etc/sudoers. What is the mechanism that allows this?

This actions drop down I would like to have an action to 'Enable Editing'. Upon clicking to enable editing, I would like a PHP variable modified from 'EnableEditing = false' to 'EnableEditing = true'. Why I would like to use PHP maybe questionable, here is why I would like to use PHP under my understanding to clarify; Sections on my page will show to different administrators depending on their level. Upon enabling editing mode, certain contents will then dynamically. <?php if ($_SESSION['user_level_status'] < 2) { if ($editing = enabled) { show this } else { show this } } ?> Something similar to this, I'm new at PHP so this may look incorrect. But if you're looking to install a simple deployment quickly, and you don't want to do all of the configuration work right off the bat, you can use the Quick Start Guide. It's a streamlined procedure that runs you through installing a single Enterprise Controller and co-located Proxy Controller, and then shows you how to discover assets quickly. Once you've discovered these assets, it describes how to use the analytics feature to view their performance, and use monitoring to keep track of their statuses and health. You'll have to do some additional configuration to use features like OS provisioning, OS updates, and virtualization, but the Quick Start guide gives you an overview of how to install and start using features quickly.

  I was trying to upgrade my 2nd computer's hard drive, and in the process, I un-admin'd and disabled my account. I'm using the guest account right now. I've tried everything that ask ubuntu has to offer (or at least after 5 hours of searching, trying, and failing) i.e., creating a new account (didn't allow me to do it), usermod, passwd, anything involving sudo, hell, I can't even get into recovery mode with the left shift thing... I really want to get into my account. Please help me.

  a friend of my friend has started a small firm and given me the responsibility to erect all the IT infrastructure required? I'm basically a windows guy that too on the developer side. But recently I fell in love with Linux n dared to dream about becoming a Linux admin and play with Linux, virtualization, cloud etc. So, first I'll be running a pilot project of creating mail/ftp/web servers required on a Linux based server. And Ubuntu is the ideal choice for a Linux beginner right? my question is simple: if a commercial organization is using Ubuntu for it's day to day desktop and server(mail,ftp etc) uses but has technicians which can provide support internally then do the organization needs to pay for Ubuntu? If yes then could you please suggest a Debian based distro on the lines of CentOS. Also can I use the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit desktop version instead of the no gui server version for the server machine(gui can be helpful for a windows guy like me) thanks.

• Samba user does not have folder read permission

  I have set up a special user for read only samba shares. I set him up in Samba and as a system user. I shared a couple of folders but that user cannot access them. I know samba is working because I also shared them with the main user of the system which is an admin account and it works fine. How can I allow this user to have read permissions on all the directories I want to share without changing anything for any other users of the system? For example, I don't want to give him ownership of any of the files/directories. Just ongoing recursive read access. ongoing recursive is important. If someone adds a file or directory, I still want him to automatically be able to read it.

It's currently indexing them on it's own time I believe which is every 2 - 3 days and when working in music and media I need to have the latest post fairly quickly. My robots.txt file is. User-agent: * Disallow: /wp-admin/ Disallow: /wp-content/ Disallow: /wp-includes/ sitemap: http://vipes.us/sitemapindex.xml If I am understanding this correctly, I would put this URL into Google http://vipes.us/sitemapindex.xml. But in doing so I still only get some of my pages indexed?

In Django, how do I manage the need to have my Employee table split across multiple databases based on an Employee attribute (i.e. country_code) in a way that doesn't impact anything else in the project (e.g. views, templates, admin)?   Well first I would like to add at the moment I have had 1174 page views. That does not count people who just browse via the homepage so add around another 200 visitors! Well back on the subject I have recently joined Ubuntu-AU (Australia) LoCo team and it is great! Basilar it is a Ubuntu loco community group and just before the my first time being at a meeting I was emailing the admin and he said that there was a stop for a team reporter and I put my hand up and he said 'yes'. He was actually going to ask at the team meeting I would have said no way! But because I saw it before hand and I asked him I wanted to do it. • Website address hacked, emails created but not showing in manage your account

  I have a website, thebleudoor.com. It is hosted by yahoo. It gets 2000-3000 hits a day and has been for at least 5 years. A few months ago, as admin of the website, I started getting bounced back emails from newly created emails like [email protected]. Yahoo only shows 2 emails for my account. They said they can't do anything about it. Now, my "spam hacked email accounts" are getting spam. They haven't altered or used my website or email or bank info, just the good name of my website. Is there anything I can do? Do I need to be concerned? Changing my provider won't really help will it? Thank you.
