• Looking for search syntax documentation for SharePoint UserProfileManager.Search Method

  Greetings - I have a SharePoint 2010 server running with the User Profile service setup to synchronize to Active Directory. I'd like to use the UserProfileManager.Search() method to return user profiles based on specific criteria. MSDN documentation for this method is here. It states that the method will return user profiles that match the specified search pattern. This is exactly what I want. However, there is no documentation on what a valid search pattern is. I've made a few guesses like "Department = 'HR'" but haven't had any luck. I can't find any other documentation or sample code. Can anyone provide samples of valid "search patterns?" Another way to return user profiles is to do a query using the FullTextSqlQuery object. We don't yet have Search setup on this server so this isn't currently an option. Thanks, Greg

  I'm trying to develop a portable J2ME appli, but Netbeans do a class preverification of LWUIT library that uses optional APIs that some configurations don't have, so I get this error when I try to compile on a configuration without JRS-184 (M3G Optional API): Error preverifying class com.sun.lwuit.animations.Transition3D VERIFIER ERROR com/sun/lwuit/animations/Transition3D.initTransition()V: Cannot find class javax/microedition/m3g/Node I don't want to remove the classes from the LWUIT API because that classes works on other configurations compatibles with JRS-184 What I want is that NetBeans do not preverify the library, It is posible? • tolua++: Adding lua functions to a C++ class that has been exported to Lua

  I am using tolua++ to export some C++ classes to Lua. My understanding that each class is 'implemented' on the lua side, as a lua table. I am wondering if it is possible therefore, to add new (Lua) methods to the C++ object table so that I can achieve the effect of adding new methods to the C++ class. Assume that I am exporting the class Foobar. Methods of Foobar will be accessisble in Lua as follows: Foobar:method1() Foobar:method2() ... etc. I would like to be able to add new methods (newmethod1, and newmethod2) to the Foobar table "object" I have the following questions: Is it possible to 'extend' the functionality of an exported C++ object in the manner I described above? How would one go about add new functions to the Foobar table? (I am relatively new to Lua)

  I am trying to process with Proguard a MS Windows desktop application (Java 6 SE using the SWT lib provided by Eclipse). • Can I use a class as an object in C# to create instances of that class?

  I'm writing a fairly uncomplicated program which can "connect" to several different types of data sources including text files and various databases. I've decided to implement each of these connection types as a class inherited from an interface I called iConnection. So, for example, I have TextConnection, MySQLConnection, &c... as classes. In another static class I've got a dictionary with human-readable names for these connections as keys. For the value of each dictionary entry, I want the class itself. That way, I can do things like: newConnection = new dict[connectionTypeString](); Is there a way to do something like this? I'm fairly new to C# so I'd appreciate any help.

• UIView drawRect; class variables out of scope

  Short & sweet version of my last question in light of new information. I have a UIVIew with an init and a drawrect method (and another thread and a bunch of other stuff, but I'll keep it short & sweet). All of the class variables that I alloc and init in the -(id)init method are out of scope/nil/0x0 in the drawRect method, and I am unable to access them. For example; In the interface: NSObject* fred; In the implementation: -(id)init { if(self == [super init]) { fred = [[NSObject alloc] init]; } return self; } -(void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { NSLog(@"Fred is retained %i times",[fred retainCount]); //FAIL NSLog(@"But his variable is actually just pointing at uninitialised 0x0, so you're not reading this in the debugger because the application has crashed before it got here." } Should add that init IS being called before drawRect also. Anyone have any ideas?

  I have a simple class that defines some constants, e.g.: module Foo class Bar BAZ = "bof" ... Everything is puppies and rainbows until I tell Rake to run all my Test::Unit tests. When it does, I get warnings: bar.rb:3: warning: already initialized constant BAZ My habit has been to avoid these warnings by making the constant initialization conditional, e.g.: ... BAZ = "bof" unless const_defined? :BAZ ... This seems to solve the problem, but it is a little tedious, and I don't ever see anyone else initializing constants this way. This makes me think I might be Doing It Wrong. Is there a better way to initialize constants that won't generate warnings?

I would expect the compiler to see that the second argument will be unboxed one way or the other, and judge what method must be invoked depending on the third argument. Why does not this happen? What is the rationale?

I've a dedicated ViewController for each cell and if I implement touchesBegan method in this viewController i can change my cell background without any problem. The problem is that the method "didSelectRowAtIndexPath" of the UITableView is no longer called. How can I call it manually? Now we want to move one of those methods out to another util class to make it a static method. We will pass that binaryScanData into the method like this: public static void convertAndSaveRawData(ref MemoryStream output, ref ArrayList binaryScanData) Our questions are followed: how can we sychoronize that binaryScanData? can we do the same as it is originally? ref is necessary? • bundle .NET dlls to run application in .NET-less machine?

  AFAIK, ngen turns MSIL into native code (also reffered to as pre-JIT), however I never payed too much attention at it's startup performance impact. Ngen'd applications still require the .NET base class libraries (the runtime). Since the base class libraries have everything our .NET assemblies need (correct?) would it be possible to ship the framework's DLLs with my ngen'd application so that it does not require the runtime to be installed? (e.g., the scenario for most Windows XP machines) Oh, and please don't bother mentioning Remotesoft's Salamander Linker or Xenocode's Postbuild. They are not for my (and many's) current budget (and they seem to simply bundle the framework in a virtualized enviroinment, which means big download sizes and slow startup times I believe) EDIT: I know now, ngen doesn't do what I thought it did. But is it possible to bundle the .NET files with an application, without using a VM?

  I am writing some Selenium tests and I need to be able to find an ancestor of a WebElement that I have already found.   Hi, we had a debate at work about what is the best practice for using listeners in java: whether listener logic should stay in the anonymous class, or it should be in a separate method, for example: button.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { // code here } }); or button.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { buttonPressed(); } }); private void buttonPressed() { // code here } which is the recommended way in terms of readability and maintainability? I prefer to keep the code inside the listener and only if gets too large, make it an inner class. Here I assume that the code is not duplicated anywhere else. Thank you.

  hi, I am working in xcode on an ipod app in objective C, and I have a field (navigationController) in one of my classes (rootViewController). How do I reference the instantiated rootViewController's navigationController from another class? For example, how would I do this if I want to reference the navigationController from the FirstViewController.m class? I seem to only be able to find references for this to reference the application delegate. If I want to reference the application delegate with FirstViewController, I just say: MyAppDelegate *delegate = [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; [delegate.navigationController pushViewController:childController animated:YES]; how do I do this for the rootViewController class instead of MyAppDelegate?

  The new Android 2.1 SDK (version 7) has a new class called SignalStrength: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/telephony/SignalStrength.html I updated my SDK in Eclipse to include the 2.1 add-on, and now I am trying to use this new class. However, when I go to do an import android.telephony.SignalStrength, it can't find it. Do I have to somehow reset my project to refresh the SDK so it knows about the new libraries? • How to make and use first object in Objective C to store sender tag

  I started with a sample program that simply sets up a UIView with some buttons on it. Works great. I want to access the sender tag from each button and save it. My first thought was to save it to a global variable but I couldn't get it to work right. I thought the best way would be to create an object with one property and synthesize it so I can get or set it as needed. First, I created GlobalGem.h: #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> @interface GlobalGem : NSObject { int gemTag; } @property int gemTag; -(void) print; @end Then I created GlobalGem.m: #import "GlobalGem.h" @implementation GlobalGem @synthesize gemTag; -(void) print { NSLog(@"gemTag value is %i", gemTag); } @end The sample code I worked from doesn't do anything I can see in "main" where the program initializes. They just have their methods and are set up to handle IBOutlet actions. I want to use this object in the IBOutlet methods. But I don't know where to create the object. In the viewDidLoad, I tried this: GlobalGem *aGem = [[GlobalGem alloc]init]; [aGem print]; I added reference to the .h file of course. The print method works. In the nslog I get "gemTag value is 0". But now I want to use the instance aGem in some of the IBOutlet actions. For instance, if I put this same method in one of the outlet actions like this: - (IBAction)touchButton:(id)sender { [aGem print]; } ...I get a build error saying that "aGem is undeclared". Yes, I'm new to objective c and am very confused. Is the instance I created, aGem, in the viewDidLoad not accessible outside of that method? How would I create an instance of a Class that I can store a variable value that any of the IBOutlet methods can access? All the buttons need to be able to store their sender tag in the instance aGem and I'm stuck. As I mentioned earlier, I was able to write the sender tag to a global variable I declared in the UIView .h file that came with the program, but I ran into issues using it. Where am I off?
