  • Can Amazon VMs be used as Active Directory domain controllers?

    I've got a client who wants to move his companies servers off site. As he is only a 10 person company I'm looking for some pretty in-expensive options. One option is the smallest of the Amazon cloud machines. The question becomes can I make one of these machines a domain controller? Cost wise the Amazon machine is cheaper than the power costs of keeping a server (or a PC) up and running in his home office 24x7 thanks to the high cost of power in Southern California.

    For an Microsoft Exchange server, is it possible to encrypt the email database such that the sysadmin cannot see the emails? In other words, the admin would be responsible for all aspects of running the Windows server and Exchange process, but would not be able to see the contents of any one email (except those sent to him, obviously). Only another individual (e.g. company owner) would be able to see all emails contained in the database.

    Are their any known issues with storing employee photos in AD provided you store them in the compliant sizes and formats? Is there a critical mass that you break or could corrupt AD databases? I'm trying to understand some of the server teams deep concerns with our intent to store employee photos in AD... they fear it will corrupt the database or replication issues will occur globally, etc. We're about a 3,000 employee company.

  • How can I uninstall Fedora on a dual boot system without a Windows CD?

    I'm running a dual boot system with Windows XP and Fedora 13. I would like to uninstall Fedora 13 and remain with Windows XP only. This fedora document says I need to boot from a Windows XP installation CS to fix the MBR. Is there a way to do that without using the CD (I'm working in a company where I got my computer up and running with XP. Getting the CD will require me contact the system admins which might take some time).

  • Hyper-V VM guest can't ping any machine

    So I got Host: Hyper-v enabled machine with four NICs, only one enabled. Network type: External IP configuration are correct for both host and guest (getting it from the DHCP of the company network) The same configuration works on a machine with single NIC But With this other machine, with 4 NICs, there is no Internet in the guest, actually it can't ping any IP expect the host (pings host IP only, not the name) I searched the Internet and did every solution, more than once, with no success.

    I need to know if it's possible on an exchange server to filter outgoing mail and override the from address in certain cases. We have to set up many exhange users who will only be able to access exchange through the outlook web access. All their outgoing e-mails when received from recipients outside our company should appear to be sent from a single generic address and not from the users' addresses.     I have a LAN with 50 clients and my company has made me do a local WebApp. This is new territory for me, but as I see it, the individual internal IP's are regulated by MikroTIK. I was wondering, how does one make MikroTIK recognise internal domain names for this IPs? Right now, the WebApp works fine and can be used by entering 192.168.3.150/app/ But since most people have difficulties entering IPs I was wondering if i could do smth like : myroom.lan would be just as you typed 192.168.3.150

  • Why use hosts file?

    My company has a staging site and we access it by a url like this: www.example.com Until today I did not realise that I had a line in my hosts file which said: 192.0.2.0 www.example.com (the ip is fake here) now when I try to access this site through ip , I cannot get access.. why is this the case? We even own the domain we are using so I do not see the reason why we are using a hosts file and more over, why I cannot access the site through simple IP (by the way, we are using an internal IP)

This proxy is acting like a router that filters and redirects traffic to the main server and switch for failover if the main one is down.   • Dedicated Hosting offering Intel Core 2 Quad @ 6GHz. Is this real?

    Hi, sorry if this is a very dumb question, but... I just got an offer from a dedicated hosting company, offering me a box with "2 Core 2 Quad processors @ 6GHz" I didn't know we could get 6GHz, and some googling turned out a bunch of people getting that, after overclocking like crazy, which seems to confirm my suspicion. Are there hostings offering 6GHz CPUs, or are these people outright lying to me? Thank you!
