• Active Directory: Find out which users belong to a Group Policy Object

  Hi, I want to make sure that certain users are available in a group from the windows domain. I installed "Group Policy Management" and can open the Forest, the Domain. But then I am not sure what I am searching. I can select a link to a Group Policy Object (GPO). In Settings i see the Drive Maps and I know them. But how can I display a list of users that use this GPO? Right-click, Edit... is disabled. net group my_gpo does not work since I am not on a Windows Domain Controller. Any possibility to find out anyway?

• Preventing my postfix to send my local users spam

  I have a postfix/dovecot mail server with 100 different users. When they send an email they need to be authenticated. I successfully use saslauth to achieve this. Few days ago I had a problem. One specific user, probably with a virus or a spam-bot installed in its computer, started to send out through my server thousands of emails in few hours. As result, my ip has been blocked by many isp provider (@aol, @yahoo, and others) and has been listed in many blacklist, making all my 100 users unable to send any email to anyone. What is the best practice to avoid this problem? It would be great if my server could recognize a spamming user and automatically block it. Also, have a limit of, say, 30 emails per hour could be a partial solution. Any idea how to face this problem? Thank you

• Users will be kicked out of a network drive (DFS)

  Hi, In early January 2011, we completely switched to Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. On our domain controller set up a DFS is that the users as "Z: drive" is displayed. The DFS was it in the same way during our time with Windows Server 2003 R2 and Windows XP. At the time it has always worked without problems. Since Windows 7, we have sometimes the case that when a user accesses to the Z drive, the Explorer will return to the workplace without a user can do. After two to three trials of the Explorer remains in the network drive and the users work. This phenomenon occurs irregularly and you can not restrict exactly why. In the event log at the time no obvious entries are logged. Does anyone know the problem or has had similar experiences? I am grateful for any help. Greetings, sY!v3Rs

  I'm using Debian squeeze with Gnome Desktop for all my users. I have a group of machines to set up so that all users should use xpdf as a default viewer (rather than evince). I want this set up to be done by command line (even better, using puppet). I know about xpg-mime command, but the man page says that the default command should not be used as root. I could manually tweek the /etc/gnome/defaults.list files, but I'm looking for a single command I could run to perform the setting without an editor interaction. Any idea ?

  I have read several posts regarding restricting ALL users to Key authentication ONLY, however I want to force only a single user (svn) onto Key auth only, the rest can be key or password. I read How to disable password authentication for every users except several, however it seems the "match user" part of sshd_config is part of openssh-5.1. I am running CentOS 5.6 and only have OpenSSH 4.3. I have the following repos available at the moment. $ yum repolist Loaded plugins: fastestmirror repo id repo name status base CentOS-5 - Base enabled: 3,535 epel Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux 5 - x86_64 enabled: 6,510 extras CentOS-5 - Extras enabled: 299 ius IUS Community Packages for Enterprise Linux 5 - x86_64 enabled: 218 rpmforge RHEL 5 - RPMforge.net - dag enabled: 10,636 updates CentOS-5 - Updates enabled: 720 repolist: 21,918 I mainly use epel, rpmforge is used to the latest version (1.6) of subversion. Is there any way to achieve this with my current setup? I don't want to restrict the server to keys only because if I lose my key I lose my server ;-)

• Sharepoint 2010 can't find domain users when granting permissions

  I'm trying to grant permissions to other people to view a SharePoint site but when granting permissions it uses "Check Names" and claims any user or group that is part of a domain does not exist. It does this if I try granting permissions to the team site or in central admin BUT if I try to add someone to Farm Administrators in Central admin then all of the sudden it can find all domain users. Why is it finding domain users in that one context but not others? It is supposed to be using NTLM authentication and has Windows configured as the authentication provider (And IIS is configured to use NTLM). What's even more strange is I enabled Anonymous Access for the team site which I thought would allow anyone to view it but others say they can't access it.

• Login-time quota for VPN users

  I have configured Routing and Remote Access Service in Windows Server 2003 as the VPN server. VPN users are defined in Active Directory which is running on this server too. How i can configure the server to give each user a limited download size (for example 1GB) and does not authenticate them when they exceeds their download quota. The VPN server should also disconnect the users that reach their quota. Update: Apparently a third-party RADIUS server could provide this feature. One solution I have found is TekRADIUS but it is commercial. FreeRADIUS is a open-source free RADIUS server but I am not sure if it could these kind of features.

• Install Firefox on Windows 7 for all users

  This has got to be among the simplest possible things in the word for those who know how to do it. However, I don't, and I have been astonished to find nothing about it from google searches other than unanswered copies of the exact same question. All I want is Firefox, and I want it for all users on a Windows 7 laptop. In fact, the real story is that I want it to work again for all users after updating from Firefox 5 to Firefox 8, which process has apparently left it unavailable to anybody but the administrator. I'll probably find the answer to this in the time it takes for this question to get answered, but I promise I'll upvote you anyway :-) I mainly wanted to get this question (hopefully with good answers) out there so that it turns up on a Google search.

To start the SQLCMD utility and connect to a named instance of SQL Server Open a Command Prompt window, and type sqlcmd -S myServer\instanceName. Replace myServer\instanceName with the name of the computer and the instance of SQL Server that you want to connect to. Press ENTER. • Database Connectivity Test with UDL File

  I bounced around between projects a lot last week.  What each project had in common was the need to validate at least one SQL connection.  Whether you have SQL tools like SSMS installed or not, this is a very easy task if you are aware of the UDL (Universal Data Link) files.  Create a new file and name it anything as long as it has the .udl extension. Open the file, choose a provider: Click Next >> or navigate to the Connection Tab to provide connection information.  Once you provide server and login credentials, the database list will populate.  At this point, you know the connection is valid. but go ahead and click the Test Connection button anyway. On the final tab, you can provide extra connection information like Application Name which can come in handy.  The All tab is beneficial if you want to build a valid connection string to include in your own applications.  If you save the file and then open in Notepad, you’ll find that said connection string: Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=master;Data Source=(local);Application Name=TestApp I hope this tip helps save you some time.  How do you test if you don’t have SSMS installed?

• SQL Developer: Describe versus Ctrl+Click to Open Database Objects

  In yesterday’s post I talked about you could use SQL Developer’s Describe (SHIFT+F4) to open a PL/SQL Package at your cursor. You might get an error if you try to describe this… If you actually try to describe the package as you see it in the above screenshot, you’ll get an error: Doh! I neglected to say in yesterday’s post that I was highlighting the package name before I hit SHIFT+F4. This works just fine, but it will work even better in our next release as we’ve fixed this issue. Until then, you can also try the Ctrl+Hover with your mouse. For PL/SQL calls you can open the source immediately based on what you’re hovering over with your mouse cursor. You could try this with “dbms_output.put_line(” too Ctrl+Click, It’s not just for PL/SQL If you don’t like the floating describe windows you get when you do a SHIFT+F4 on a database object, the ctrl+click will work too. Instead of opening a normal ‘hover’ panel, you’ll be taken directly to the object editor for that table, view, etc. Go ahead and try it right now. Paste this into your worksheet, then ctrl+click with your mouse over the table name: select * from scott.emp And now you know, the rest of the story.

  I try to access a mysql table using OpenJs Grid. I already doublechecked if the database "partsdb" and the table "parts" exists and it can be accessed from the commandline. This is one of the script which every developer would like to keep it handy. I have upgraded the script bit more. I have included few additional information which I believe I should have added from the beginning. It is difficult to visualize the final script when we are writing it first time. I use every script which I write on this blog, the matter of the fact, I write only those scripts here which I was using at that time. It is quite possible that as time passes by my needs are changing and I change my script. Here is the updated script of this subject. If there are any user data types, it will list the same as well.   If you’re using external hard drives with your Windows Home Server, they might get unplugged and create an error. Here we look at running the Repair Wizard to quickly fix the issue. If an external drive that is included in your drive pool becomes unplugged or loses power, you might see the following error under Home Network Health when opening the WHS Console. To fix the issue verify the drive has power and is plugged in correctly and click Repair. The wizard launches and you’ll need to agree that you may lose data during the repair of the backup database. In this example it was a simple problem where an external drive became unplugged from the server…so you can close out of the wizard. If you look under Server Storage you can see the drive is missing…To fix the issue verify the drive has power and is plugged in correctly. WHS will add the drive back into the pool and when finished you’ll see it listed as healthy and good to go. Using external drives that are part of your storage pool may not be the best way to have your home built WHS setup, but if you do, expect occasional errors such as this.   One of the things I've always wanted in DBCC CHECKDB is the option to omit particular tables from the check. The situation that I often see is that companies with large databases often have only one or two very large tables. They want to run a DBCC CHECKDB on the database to check everything except those couple of tables due to time constraints. I posted a request on the Connect site about time some time ago: https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/611164/dbcc-checkdb-omit-tables-option The workaround from the product team was that you could script out the checks that you did want to carry out, rather than omitting the ones that you didn't. I didn't overly like this as a workaround as clients often had a very large number of objects that they did want to check and only one or two that they didn't. I've always been impressed with the work that our buddy Ola Hallengren has done on his maintenance scripts. He pinged me recently about my old Connect item and said he was going to implement something similar. The good news is that it's available now. The ability to recognize patterns in a sequence of rows has been a capability that was widely desired, but not possible with SQL until now. Row pattern matching in native SQL improves application and development productivity and query efficiency for row-sequence analysis. With Oracle Database 12c you can use the new MATCH_RECOGNIZE clause to perform pattern matching in SQL to do the following: Logically partition and order the data using the PARTITION BY and ORDER BY clauses Use regular expressions syntax to define patterns of rows to seek using the PATTERN clause. These patterns a powerful and expressive feature, applied to the pattern variables you define. Specify the logical conditions required to map a row to a row pattern variable in the DEFINE clause. Define measures, which are expressions usable in the MEASURES clause of the SQL query. • Run database checks but omit large tables or filegroups - New option in Ola Hallengren's Scripts
