  I've got a few tables in an access database: ID | LocationName 1 | Location1 2 | Location2 ID | LocationID | Date | NumProductsDelivered 1 | 1 | 12/10 | 3 2 | 1 | 01/11 | 2 3 | 1 | 02/11 | 2 4 | 2 | 11/10 | 1 5 | 2 | 12/10 | 1 ID | LocationID | Date | NumEmployees | EmployeeType 1 | 1 | 12/10 | 10 | 1 (=Permanent) 2 | 1 | 12/10 | 3 | 2 (=Temporary) 3 | 1 | 12/10 | 1 | 3 (=Support) 4 | 2 | 10/10 | 1 | 1 5 | 2 | 11/10 | 2 | 1 6 | 2 | 11/10 | 1 | 2 7 | 2 | 11/10 | 1 | 3 8 | 2 | 12/10 | 2 | 1 9 | 2 | 12/10 | 1 | 3 What I want to do is pass in the LocationID as a parameter and get back something like the following table. So, if I pass in 2 as my LocationID, I should get: Date | NumProductsDelivered | NumPermanentEmployees | NumSupportEmployees 10/10 | | 1 | 11/10 | 1 | 2 | 1 12/10 | 1 | 2 | 1 It seems like this should be a pretty simple query. I really don't even need the first table except as a way to fill in the combo box on the form from which the user chooses which location they want a report for. Unfortunately, everything I've done has resulted in me getting a lot more data than I should be getting. My confusion is in how to set up the join (presumably that's what I'm looking for here) given that I want both the date and locationID to be the same for each row in the result set. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

• SQL Server Connection Timeout C#

  First off I'd like to let everyone know I have searched my particular problem and can't seem to find what's causing my problem. I have an SQL Server 2008 instance running on a network machine and a client I have written connecting to it. To connect I have a small segment of code that establishes a connection to an sql server 2008 instance and returns a DataTable populated with the results of whatever query I run against the server, all pretty standard stuff really. Anyway the issue is, whenever I open my program and call this method, upon the first call to my method, regardless as to what I've set my Connection Timeout value as in the connection string, it takes about 15 seconds and then times out. Bizarrely though the second or third call I make to the method will work without a problem. I have opened up the ports for SQL Server on the server machine as outlined in this article: How to Open firewall ports for SQL Server and verified that it is correctly configured. If anyone has any ideas that'd be great!

• OOP + MVC advice on Member Controller

  Hi, I am trying to follow good practices as much as possible while I'm learning using OOP in an MVC structure, so i'm turning to you guys for a bit of advice on something which is bothering me a little here. I am writing a site where I will have a number of different forms for members to fill in (mainly data about themselves), so i've decided to set up a Member controller where all of the forms relating to the member are represented as individual methods. This includes login/logout methods, as well as editing profile data etc. In addition to these methods, i also have a method to generate the member's control panel widget, which is a constant on every page on the site while the member is logged in. The only thing is, all of the other methods in this controller all have the same dependencies and form templates, so it would be great to generate all this in the constructor, but as the control_panel method does not have the same dependencies etc, I cannot use the constructor for this purpose, and instead I have to redeclare the dependencies and same template snippets in each method. This obviously isn't ideal and doesn't follow DRY principle, but I'm wondering what I should do with the control_panel method, as it is related to the member and that's why I put it in that controller in the first place. Am I just over-complicating things here and does it make sense to just move the control_panel method into a simple helper class? • c# - sqllite dosnt save data i inserted

  I'm messing around with SQL lite and learning it. I got a table called People, I got some method that connect to the database and do some stuff, like show all the info. Now I'm trying to insert some data and here it get wierd for me. I have this method: private void ExecuteQuery(string txtQuery) { SetConnection(); sql_con.Open(); sql_cmd = sql_con.CreateCommand(); sql_cmd.CommandText = txtQuery; sql_cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); sql_con.Close(); } and to see all the data I've got this method: private void LoadData() { SetConnection(); sql_con.Open(); sql_cmd = sql_con.CreateCommand(); string CommandText = "SELECT * FROM People"; DB = new SQLiteDataAdapter(CommandText, sql_con); DS.Reset(); DB.Fill(DS); DT = DS.Tables[0]; dataGridView1.DataSource = DT; sql_con.Close(); } When I inset some data and right afther it I call the LoadData(), I can see all the changes I made. After I close the program, and then open it agian and call LoadData(), I don't see the new info that I inserted before. I got some data that I used SQL lite GUI app to insert, and I can see that data every time I call the LoadData() method, but not mine. Do I need to do somthing else to make sure SQL lite saves all the data?

• What is the last entry in an unfilled array (C++)?

  I put C++ because I'm just starting in C# and I'm not sure if there's a difference. if you declare an array char arr[10] and fill in values for arr[0] through arr[8], what value will be put in arr[9]? a space ' '? An endline '\n'? '\0'? Or is it nothing at all? I'm asking this because I've always used tactics like this char word[20]; for(count = 0 ; count < 20 ; count++) { cout << word[count]; } to print the entire contents of an array, and I was wondering if I could simplify it (e.g., if the last entry was '\0') by using something like this char word[20]; while(word[count] != '\0') { cout << word[count]; } that way, I wouldn't have to remember how many pieces of data were entered into an array if all the spaces weren't filled up. If you know an even faster way, let me know. I tend to make a bunch of mistakes on arrays.

• float** allocation limit + serialized struct problem. Need advice!

  basically im getting an allocation limit error/warning when i create a float** array. the function i am calling to fill the float** retrieves data from a struct loaded from a file. The function works fine when i use one object but when i load 2 objects into memory i get the limit error. I am pretty sure this is to do with byte alignment or a similar thing because my struct is saved with a float** member which i am sure you are not susposed to do !?! Please confirm this! The next question i have now is how to save/serialize the float** member of this struct? I cant really afford to put an upper bound on the array ie "float [10000][3]" because i need/want to use this structure as a base for many other types of objects that may have well under the upper bound. Stroking my chin here! Any help/advice will recieve my highest gratitude. BTW these said struct objects will be used in a game/graphics package, the float** is a float[3] array for storing vertices in a model. Much thanks in advance

• jquery, attaching objects (instead of string attribute) to an element

  Hi! I'm trying to build DOM with jQuery and fill it with data that is received with AJAX (data type = json). I'd like to also store this data as an object, attached to a specific DOM element. Does jQuery provide any method for this? The reason I want to do it is because only part of data is initially displayed; other data might be needed later, depending on user actions. I tried using attr(), but it stores a string "[object Object]" instead of an actual object: var div = $('<div/>'); div.attr('foo', {bar: 'foobar'}); alert(div.attr('foo')); // gives "[object Object]" alert(typeof div.attr('foo')); // gives "string" alert(div.attr('foo').bar); // gives "undefined" Another way to do this would be by "bypassing" jQuery (div[0].foo = {bar: 'foobar'};), though this seems to be a "dirty workaround", if jQuery happens to already support attaching objects.   Possible Duplicate: How much do you [really] work a day When I started working (not so long ago), I was very conscientious about really working. If I didn't work for 10 minutes at a time, I felt like I was cheating. But as I started to look around me, I realized that I was the only one... and most of my coworkers were spending a big percentage of their time browsing the internet or playing solitaire. I started to slack off a little more than usual... while still basically getting all my work done. But while I do all that's required of me, and usually quickly, I no longer beg for work to fill up my spare time; I'm content to do what I'm told and play around when no one makes sure I'm busy enough. Which means that I'm often bored and underutilized. (Which I was even when I begged for work - people are pretty laid back about the workload and don't seem to realize how much I can get done if pushed to the fullest.) But I was just talking to a friend who graduated with me and also recently started working... and she came to me with the same concerns about slacking. She's working remotely, which means there are often gaps in communication when she can't really get anything done... And she's feeling guilty about it. Which made me rethink the whole thing... So, as workers, how many hours, out of the 8 standard average, are you actually working (honestly)? And, as bosses, how many hours do you expect your workers to work? And from an ethical standpoint, how much free time, or space out time, can workers have during the day without being considered to be "cheating" their office of labor and money?

• Transfering data from Excel to dataGridView

  I have a problem when I want to transfer data from Excel to dataGridView in C#. My Excel's column has numeric and alphanumeric values. But for example, if the column has 3 numbers and 2 alphanumeric values then only the numbers are shown in the dataGridView, and vice versa. Why aren't all the values shown?   I'm really not sure how to explain this. It's so simple I can't fathom why it's not working. I have a loop. It puts a bunch of strings into an array. If I fill a single variable with any given string, it will output it perfectly. But filling an array with the strings will make it give me the dreaded: Array Array Array Array Array Array Array Array Note: my strings are not all 'Array'. • How do I pause main() until all other threads have died?

  In my program, I am creating several threads in the main() method. The last line in the main method is a call to System.out.println(), which I don't want to call until all the threads have died. I have tried calling Thread.join() on each thread however that blocks each thread so that they execute sequentially instead of in parallel. Is there a way to block the main() thread until all other threads have finished executing?   I need a fast and efficient method to read a space separated file with numbers into an array. The files are formatted this way: 4 6 1 2 3 4 5 6 2 5 4 3 21111 101 3 5 6234 1 2 3 4 2 33434 4 5 6 The first row is the dimension of the array [rows columns]. The lines following contain the array data. The data may also be formatted without any newlines like this: 4 6 1 2 3 4 5 6 2 5 4 3 21111 101 3 5 6234 1 2 3 4 2 33434 4 5 6 I can read the first line and initialize an array with the row and column values. Then I need to fill the array with the data values. My first idea was to read the file line by line and use the split function. But the second format listed gives me pause, because the entire array data would be loaded into memory all at once. Some of these files are in the 100 of MBs. The second method would be to read the file in chunks and then parse them piece by piece. Maybe somebody else has a better a way of doing this?

• Integrating jQuery autocomplete with Google site search

  I have a bit of an odd situation. I have to implement search on a public facing website -but, that search must be able to search both web pages and have an autocomplete/suggestion functionality that comes from a list of terms that are in a DB table. So, I'm wondering a couple things: 1) should I be looking at Google search and jQuery autocomplete? 2) is there something else I should be looking at instead? 3) if this is the right path to be heading down are the enough pointers on implementation? The crux of my problem is that the terms that I need to use for the autocomplete/suggest functionality reside within a database and not on the webpages. So, I thought Google would be appropriate for search the webpages and that I could sort of fill in the blanks so to speak with these terms from the DB. I'm going to say that there are roughly 20-40,000 terms or so that need autocomplete. But that is really just a very rough guess -it could be less. I'm open to ideas and not really married to any particular solution. However, I will admit to liking the ideas of offloading the search to Google. I hear they have a good algorithm ;) Any ideas, thoughts, or leads are greatly appreciated!

  In this statement, I am trying to see if there if the latest posting in the database that has the exact same title, price, city, state, detail. If there is, then it would say to the user that the exact post has been already made; if not then insert the posting into the dbc. (This is one type of check so that users can't accidentally post twice. This may not be the best check, but this statement error is annoying me, so I want it to work :)) Why won't this sql work? I think it's not letting the title=$title and not getting the value in the $title...   I was wondering if it was possible to create a struct containing a number of variables and a map in a map. What I have at the moment: typedef std::map<std::string,double> lawVariables; struct ObjectCustomData { std::string objectType; bool global_lock; std::map<std::string, lawVariables> lawData; }; This struct is then passed on to another function as a single data block for that object. The structure setup is as follows: Each object has a data block that contains: its ObjectType, a bool for a lock, and a varying number of "laws" that could look like this: law1 -> var_a = 39.3; -> var_g = 8.1; law8 -> var_r = 83.1; -> var_y = 913.3; -> var_a = 9.81; Firstly, I'm unsure whether I should be using a Map within a Map and secondly even if this would be valid, I'm unsure how to fill it with data and how to recall it afterwards. I looked at maps because then I can search (on a name) if a certain object has a certain law, and if that law has certain variables. (sorry for the first messy post appearance, hope this is better :) )

  I am having a hard time with the new Alpha release of JQM not showing nested popups. For example, I am displaying a popup form that the user is supposed to fill out, if the server side validation fails, I want to display an error popup. I am finding that the error popup is not being shown.   I have an image that is 512x280 pixels. I want to populate a 64x35 array with every 8th pixel in the matrix. Here is what I have right now: Color[,] imgArray = new Color[b.Width, b.Height]; for (int y = 0; y < 35; y++) { for (int x = 0; x < 64; x++) { imgArray[x, y] = b.GetPixel(x, y); } } But that will get just the top corner of the image. How would I change the loop so it grabs every 8th pixel to fill the array with? edit: I think I may have gotten it. Can someone read this and assure me that it is correct? • TreeNode Selection Problems in C#

  Whenever I click outside the tree nodes text, on the control part, it tigers a node click event- but doesn't highlight the node. I am unsure why this is happening. I want the node to be selected on a click- when you click the nodes text- not the whitespace- I only assume that the nodes width reaches across the whole Treenode? I have the Treeview on dock.fill mode if that has something to do with it- I tried everything but can't get it to behave correctly. Maybe someone will know what's going on. Update: if (e.Location.IsEmpty) { Seems to work better- but still selects the node in the blank place where there is no text- Obviously the node width extends across the whole treeview it seems? Is there a better way to accomplish what I want? Or is that the best way? UPDATE: Previous idea isn't working- sigh- I thought it did it but it didn't. New Problem : I think part of the problem is related to the focus now when I switch from treeview.
