jQuery returning two elements for each one it finds?

I'll start by saying I'm fairly new to jQuery. For the most part, I've found it intuitive and powerful, but this one circumstance has me thoroughly stumped. In the following method, the call to .each() returns two elements for every one found. It iterates over a set of table rows given IDs starting with the word, "communication," and followed by an ID number. For each row it returns, it processes twice. Using Firebug, I've validated that the DOM only has a single instance of each table row in question. Also using Firebug, I've validated that the method is not being called twice; the iteration in .each() is truly going over each returned table row twice. By the time all the AJAX call goodness is done, I'll have two entries in the database for each row created in the table. This is the code that's causing the issues: function getCommunications() { var list = $('[id^=communication]'); var communications = new Array(); list.each(function () { var communication = { ID: $(this).find('.commCompanyID').val(), /* * SNIP: more object properties here that are * unnecessary to this discussion */ }; communications.push(communication); }); return communications; } At the point of return communications, the Array returned will contain twice as many elements as there are table rows. I should note that nearly identical code (but going against specific lists of divs) is working on the same page. It's just the table that's suffering the issues. I'm using jQuery 1.4.1, the version which shipped with Visual Studio .NET 2010. The table markup is fully dynamic -- that is, aside from the header row, it's dependent on data either returned at page load or created by the user via a dialog box. I'll drop in just the code for what's created at page load; again using Firebug I've validated that what I create dynamically when an end user creates a row with the dialog box matches. iui transition moving in wrong direction

i am using iUI to build a native looking web app for iDevices. whenever i click a link with an href of #something that leads to another div on my page, the transition effect moves (correctly) as if the page were sliding in from the right like it does on any other iDevice app. a portion of my app requires an indefinite number of sub pages though, so i generate them on the fly, assign them and id, and set the window location to something like myip/mobile/#_newdiv. this causes the transition effect to move in the wrong direction though (as if the page were sliding in from the LEFT, opposite native iDevices). is there any way to fix this?

Why can XSLT not parse this XML?

Taking the XSLT and XML from this page as an example: http://www.w3schools.com/xsl/xsl_transformation.asp I have an xml file which contains (above example modified): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="cdcatalog.xsl"?> <catalog xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns="http://tempuri.org/"> <cd> In my case, the output contains nothing when the XSLT/XML is processed by the browser. The moment I remove the attributes from the element, it works. Problem is, I don't really have the option of pre-processing those attributes out of the file. Can anyone explain how to force the XSLT to work with the XML as is, please? After all, those attributes seem fairly standard. Many thanks, Matt.

Strange IE7 behaviors(or not)

mailto fails in IE where there is a long body text. Is there any way to resolve this?

I have a child element of a div named "bob" that's class is '.divTitle' <div id="bob"> <div class="divTitle"> <a href="#"> <h1>Title</h1> </a> </div> </div> I am trying to set the background color of "divTitle" to red but for the life of me can't get this to work. Right now I am trying two things... $('#bob').children('.divTitle')[0].css('background-color', '#0f0'); // assuming children is returning an array... and $('#bob').children('.divTitle').css('background-color', '#0f0'); neither with any success... can anyone tell me what I am missing here? Do I have to go deeper than ".children"?

jQuery stopPropagation bubble down

I have a div with a link inside of it: <div id="myDiv"> <a href="http://www.lol.com">Lol</a> </div> Clicking the <div /> should go somewhere, but clicking the child <a /> should go to www.lol.com. I've seen from previous questions and the jQuery website that .stopPropagation prevents bubbling upwards, but how do I prevent a bubble downwards (isn't that what's necessary here?).

Attach fancybox/lightbox/idontknowbox function on an element

I'm developing a jquery gallery, and I want to parametrize the highlighter function to support any kind of lightboxes (fancybox for example). In my defaults I did something like: $.fn.mygallery.defaults = { functionHighlighter: null } so in the code, creating the item, I'll check this property, and if it's setted to a function, I want to call it on the element: if ((typeof opt.functionHighlighter) === "function") { opt.functionHighlighter.call(link); } where link is the anchor element containing the miniature image, with href setted to the original image. In my idea, when the plugin is called, I set the function with: $("#gallery").mygallery({ functionHighlighter: $.fancybox }); but the "call" on the functionHighlighter executes directly the fancybox, that returns an empty area. What I want to emulate is the execution of link.fancybox(); that correctly builds the plugin on link. Any ideas?

My client's only worry is will this mess up search engine optimization? Can I just add alt text to the images like "link 1" or use the name attribute of the anchor tag? Or would it be better to just have the navigation as anchor tags with the names of the links in them like: <a href="...">link 1</a>? URL flow when writing a wizard in PHP

Hello, I am writing a basic wizard for my web site. It will have 4 steps, and each needs to have its own URL. Each step must first validate a form before moving on. If the form for a given step fails to validate, I don't want the URL to change. But if it passes, I do want it to move on. What is the preferred way to write this? Using javascript alone to validate is not secure enough. I have 2 ideas so far but I don't love either: 1) Post the form to the same script and use a header() redirect to the next step if it passes. 2) Send an ajax post to validate and then use location.href to send user to the next step if it passes. Is there a better way to do this? Thanks, Brian

Ampersand in link description text?

I am validating my site using validator.w3.org and have an issue where there is a & in my link description text. ie this is taken from the source <a class='tag' href='/php/iphone software.php?function=developer&dev=witch%26wizards+inc.&store=143441'>witch&wizards inc.</a> Which gives me this error in the validator Line 188, Column 540: cannot generate system identifier for general entity "wizards" …6wizards+inc.&store=143441'witch&wizards inc. If I urlencode the description then the validation passes, but the user then sees the text displayed urlencoded, ie Developer witch%26wizards+inc. However I believe it's much more user friendly if this was displayed unencoded, ie Developer witch&wizards inc. Is there a way to pass validation but still have user friendly text displayed? Using images and css file for a generated HTML UIWebView

Hi! I'm generating an HTML file for an app, and in this HTML file there's a link to a stylesheet and one to an image. Here's what I tried so far: NSMutableString *toReturn = [NSMutableString stringWithCapacity:100]; NSString *cssPath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"etapes.css" ofType:nil]; [toReturn appendFormat:@"<html><head><title></title><link href=\"%@\" media=\"all\" rel=\"stylesheet\" type=\"text/css\" /></head><body>", cssPath]; It generates the right full path to the right file, this is okay if I want to access it on my mac, but on the simulator or my iPhone it doesn't point to the right place at all... Do you have any idea of how could I make this? Thanks
