• Why should I use Amazon Route 53 over my registrar's DNS servers?

  I am building a site that I anticipate will have high usage. Currently, my registrar (GoDaddy) is handling DNS. However, Amazon's Route 53 looks interesting. They promise high speed and offer globally distributed DNS servers and a programmable interface. While GoDaddy doesn't offer a programmable interface, I assume their servers are geographically distributed as well. What are the main reasons I should opt to use Amazon Route 53 over free registrar-based DNS?

• Windows 8: Different Themes or Different Wallpaper Slideshows for Multiple Monitors

  I know I can assign different wallpaper for each monitor that is connected to my computer in Windows 8(by right clicking and selecting "set for monitor 1,2,etc"), but I don't know how to assign different wallpaper slideshow or different theme for each monitor. Can anyone tell me how to do that? It is quite interesting to see different wallpapers on different monitors, but seeing static wallpaper on each of those monitors is no fun. thanks

• HP Server Automation - agent misreporting hostname

  I've been using HP Server Automation for some time, but have noticed an interesting issue I'm hoping the SF community has seen / knows a workaround to. When the management agent on Solaris or RHEL (only platforms I've noticed it on) reports the hostname of the managed server, it does not return the value of hostname, it returns the first alias to that entry in /etc/hosts. Any ideas on how to get around that? Other than editing /etc/hosts so the alias is at the end of the line instead of the front?

  Ok, so I was reading through the AMD64 manuels and knowing that nop is really an xchg eax, eax, I looked at the xchg and found something interesting, that it seems a byte can be encoded into the instruction for specifying the registers (apologies I'm on my iPod): picture. So what I am wondering is how does the processor know if there is a byte after to work with or is it that that extra register has to be of type rAX causing it to actually still be the one byte 0x90

  Hello, I've just installed ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop its all great but the screen resolution is a bit crap i have it set 1200:800 and when i do xrandr it indicates that the i can have a bigger screen resolution but i dont seem to to be able to increase it more 1200:800. another interesting thing is that xorg.conf does not exist on the /etc/X11/ is there a way to increase the screen resolution for Sony laptops? the graphics card is Intel Graphics Please help!

• WMP Skipping Chapters When Restored to Fullscreen

  I just noticed a rather interesting issue with WMP. I'm watching a DVD while working, and noticed that if I minimize it to my taskbar, and open up the small preview window I can watch it just fine. But if I restore it while it's playing, it immediately skips ahead to the next chapter, blowing right past several minutes of content. Is this standard behavior? Is there a work-around to keep it from doing this?

• nginx rule to capture header and append value as query string

  I have an interesting problem I need to solve in nginx: one of the sites I'm building receives inbound traffic on port 80 (and only port 80) which may have a certain header set in the request. If this header is present I need to capture the value of it and append that as a querystring parameter before doing a temporary redirect (rewrite) to a different (secure) server, while passing the paramater and any other querystring params along.   I am looking for a command-line tool for Unix (ideally, available in a Debian / Ubuntu package) for extracting all MIME parts from a multipart email message (or the body from a singlepart with an interesting content-type, for that matter). I have been using the mimeexplode tool which ships with the Perl MIME::Tools package, but it's not really production quality (the script is included as an example only, and has issues with what it regards as "evil" character sets) and I could certainly roll my own script based on that, but if this particular wheel has already been innovated, perhaps I shouldn't.

• Can I install a tool like Zimbra or Funambol on a server that is already managed by Syscp?

  I have a server that is managed by Syscp. The question is, if there are unresolveable dependencies, or services, that are managed by syscp already? For example Zimbra is intended using postfix but syscp is managing that already. I guess, that will not be possible, but maybe without having the full functionality of Zimbra. • Can "tar" backup incrementally?

  I have my home folder with a few GB. Is it possible to run tar on it, create a home.tar.gz, and then for changed files, it creates home1.tar.gz only with modified files from previous tar (thus being an incremental backup)? I would like to check the resulting checksum files and export them as well like home.md5, home1.md5, etc. (I know this could be another process, but interesting as well).

• Impossible to Remove FTDI driver / FTDI Enumeration on Windows 7

  I have already read the : Is it possible to reset FTDI virtual com ports enumeration, we easily get hundreds of COM ports in production environment topics which was pretty interesting ! But I got a problem, apparently I can't delete the ftdi driver, so I can't use the previous conclusion of the topic... I'm really stuck and bored of this problem, my com port number is 132 ! Does someone have another solution ?
