  • What is the best vfat driver for FUSE?

    FUSE filesystem list show some FuseFat and FatFuse. One is 404 not found, others is old, not buildable and probably depends on glib. Now I'm using mountlo for the task (mounting USB drives in generic way without root access or suid things (except of fusermount itself), but it looks too big for such task. Is there good vfat FUSE driver?

  • best app to stream movies over the web

    Hi. I have an old box that I'd like to use as a private sever to stream movies off of. My upload speed is about 0.5/Mb/s, so I need something that compresses well. I'd like to be able to access these movies from anywhere, through the web, through some interface (maybe the divx web player? flash player? some other protocol?) Can anyone recommend anything good? (Using Windows XP) Thanks!

  • Can't find windows 2000 domain after PDC Change

    This is a windows 2000 domain issue. I had an old win2000 PDC that was beginning to fail. So, trying to be pre-emptive, I installed a new BDC, then "demoted" the old PDC and took it off the network. Now it appears that no member server can "find" the domain anymore. No logins work (for services or a RDP or anything). What I've tried (based on googling): Verified sysvol is shared on all servers. Used nslookup to verify that DC's are being found. netdiag /fix meta data cleanup routines. verified no firewall issues (port 389 etc) seizing all roles to new PDC (I did that as part of the original promotion). LMHOST file and Netbios settings. At the moment it seems like I can get the DC's returned but cannot contact them. I'm at a loss. My latest attempt was to remove a member server from the domain and try to "re-add" it. When I do that I get this message: The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.cfwebtools.com The following domain controllers were identified by the query: db-dev1.cfwebtools.com file-prod1.cfwebtools.com cfwt-pdc2.cfwebtools.com However no domain controllers could be contacted. It then goes on to ask if I've checked my A record and made sure they are running. Is there a way to force this domain to be seen? I also shared sysvol (or double checked it) and restarted the dfsr service. More information. I got looking at sysvol and found it was not shared on 2 of these servers. Only one of them (db-dev1) has a "good" or at least "populated" sys vol store. So I tried doing a "d2" recovery of my PDC against that good sysvol. But it never synchs - or at least it does not seem to synch. I'm guessing if I could get sysvol and netlogin to kick in and replicate that would fix my issue. I think these DC's aren't responding because they are waiting for replication which is broken somehow. Would taking down all the DC's except for db-dev1 fix the issue - at least temporarily? I know I can't just copy the sysvol stuff over to the other 2 can I?

  • How can people still be getting spam from a hotmail account that's been closed?

    My wife had an old hotmail account which she recently closed. Some people that she used to communicate with from that account have recently been receiving spam emails from this account. I don't see how this is possible because the account is closed. I considered that maybe the email address is being spoofed, is there a way I can tell from looking at the email headers or something? Or should I take this up with hotmail?

    Here is what I want to do. Hit backup and backup all my files to a jump drive. Take files on the road with me and edit them on the jumpdrive with my netbook. Come back to my computer and hit restore and have the files uploaded back to my computer, but I want to be prompted what files have changed and if I want to replace or keep the old file.     Is there any way to untar and only extract those files that are above a certain date including directory structure?? I restored a backup on a play server but it was a few days old. However I have a tar archive of the entire structure that is more up to date and healthy so now I want to extract all files (including directory structure) based on a date filter on the files if possible?

  • Wifi randomly drops on Windows 8 laptop

    First of all, I did a lot of research on this problem, and I wasn't able to come to any helpful conclusion. I've finally decided that I need advice from those who might know where to look. So don't let me down. :P I used to have an older Windows 7 laptop, which worked great for basic office and web browsing. However, I wanted something that would play actual modern games. So I recently bought a Sager NP8235 with the Intel Wireless-AC 7260 wifi card, and installed Windows 8 Pro on it. And ever since, I've been having problems with the wifi. Generally, what happens is if I leave the laptop on but inactive for an extended amount of time (I've estimated it around an hour to two), the wifi will start dropping randomly. If I happened to have a download going at the time, it usually causes the download to fail. Or, if I put the laptop to sleep overnight, the next morning I usually have to restart the computer because the wifi device apparently stops working (it literally won't turn on). Also, and most frustrating, whenever I'm on a video chat (like Skype), after about ten minutes, the connection will start lagging like crazy, until it forces Skype to end the call. After that, I usually have to disable and reenable the wifi to get it working again. I know it isn't our internet, because all the other computers in our house (~8) don't have any issues. Even the old Windows 7 laptop (connected also over wifi) works just fine, scoring the normal ~3Mbps average on speedtest.net (yes, I know our internet is slow, we live out in the country). Additionally, when I connect the Sager directly to the router via ethernet, the internet instantly starts working just great. Like I said, I've done a lot of googling to figure out what's going on, and I haven't been able to find anything that worked for me. Is it Windows 8 conflicting with the Wifi drivers? As of this writing, I have the Intel drivers v16.1.5.2 installed (without the extra Intel software). Or is it our router? It's a TP-Link TL-WR841ND, set to the default settings. The Sager is currently being assigned to a static IP, if that makes any difference. And yet, the old windows 7 laptop has a much more stable connection than the Sager. Anyone have any ideas? At this point, I'd appreciate even knowing what the problem is.

    I have an old program that kind of depends on older dynamic libraries. They tend to get upgraded easily with distro's updates. I figured that there would be a script with using ldd that would gather the libs needed and create one bigger, statically linked application that wouldn't break so easily. If I could do this, alot of older KDE libraries could be removed from my system and easen my life. Thanks!

  • Single click to accept meeting invite in Outlook 2010

    In Outlook 2003 when I received a meeting invite I could click the Accept button once to accept it. In Outlook 2010 I have to click Accept, then click "Send the response now", which is completely useless - what else do I need to say other than "yes, I'll be there"? How do I restore the old behaviour so that a I can accept with a single click? (Declining is different, of course - I might want to edit the message then.)

Eg is it SATA or whatever? Might be a bone question but I'm not really aware of the different types and if they've changed much in the past 6 years.     SITUATION: A larger company acquires a smaller one. IT infrastructure has to be merged. There are no immediate plans to change the current size or role of the smaller company - the offices and production remain. It has a Win 2003 SBS domain server, Win 2000 file server, linux server for SVN and internal Wikipedia, 2 or 3 production machines, LTO backup solution. The servers are approx. 5 years old. Cisco network equippment (switches, wireless, ASA). Mail solution is a hosted Exchange. There are approx. 35 desktops and laptops in the company. IT infrastructure unification: There are 2 IT merging proposals. 1.) Replacing old servers, installing Win Server 2008 domain controller, and setting up either subdomain or domain trust to a larger company. File server and other servers remain local and synchronization should be set up to a centralized location in larger company. Similary with the backup - it remains local and if needed it should be replicated to a centralized location. Licensing is managed by smaller company. 2.) All servers are moved to a centralized location in larger company. As many desktop machines as possible are replaced by thin clients. The actual machines are virtualized and hosted by Terminal server at the same central location. Citrix solutions will be used. Only router and site-2-site VPN connection remain at the smaller company. Backup internet line to insure near 100% availability is needed. Licensing is mainly managed by larger company. Only specialized software for PCs that will not be virtualized is managed by smaller company. I'd like to ask you to discuss both solutions a bit. In your opinion, which is better from the operational point of view? Which is more reliable, cheaper in the long run? Easier to manage from the system administrator's point of view? Easier on the budget and easier to maintain from IT department's point of view? Does anybody have any experience with the second option and how does it perform in production environment? Pros and cons of both? Your input will be of great significance to me. Thank you very much!

  • Can a FreePBX backup be restored to a different version?

    I run a small PBX based on the FreePBX distro of Asterisk. The installation has been steadily upgraded but for various reasons, we want to start again on a new server with a clean install from the distribution media. Will I be able to take a backup from the old server and restore it to the new server, even though the installs are different versions? How sensitive are FreePBX backups to the build version? Is it possible to get at least a partial restore?

  • iPhone4: Keep playing songs after song selected from Search iPhone screen ends?

    When I first got my iPhone 4, if I selected a song from the "search iPhone" screen (when you hit home twice), iTunes would start playing a playlist of all my songs, starting with the selected one. I recently updated it to 4.2.1 (I don't remember exactly what I was at before). Now, when I select a song from the "Search iPhone" screen, iTunes starts playing a playlist containing only that song. Is there a way I can get the old behavior back?

  • How Do I Disable Windows 7 Accessibility Apps?

    I want to permanently disable or remove Magnifier, Narrator, On-Screen Keyboard and High Contrast or at least permanently disable their keyboard shortcuts. I'm using Win7 inside a Parallels VM with an old IBM keyboard (SpaceSaver II) and USB/PS2 adaptor. Despite all my best efforts to customise the keyboard for the VM, the accessibility shortcuts activate almost by themselves at critical times :-( Can anyone help?
