  • Excluding standard directories from code coverage results with C++/CLI

    I have a Visual Studio 2010 .NET 4 solution with C# projects and a C++/CLI project. I use Visual Studio's built in unit tests and code coverage. Other than the fact that Visual Studio 2010 coverage tool for C++/CLI projects seems to be much weaker than Visual Studio 2008 coverage tool, I get weird results. For example, I get uncovered code in this file: c:\program files (x86)\microsoft visual studio 10.0\vc\include\xstring And some other files in that directory. I want to exclude this code from coverage results. Is there a way to put some exclude attributes on that code? If not, is there a different automatic way to exclude that code from coverage? If not, is there a way to use EXCLUDE option to exclude it? Can it be done automatically within Visual Studio without running the coverage tool from command prompt? Any other solutions?

  • How to use Visual Studio debugger visualizers built against a different framework version?

    I compiled the ExpressionTreeVisualizer project found in the Visual Studio 2010 samples but when I try to use it in a .NET 3.5 project I get the exception below: Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Visual Studio 2010\Common7\Packages\Debugger\Visualizers\ExpressionTreeVisualizer.dll' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded. The sample project had the TargetFrameworkVersion set to v4.0 and after changing it to v3.5 and building it now works in my project. I changed the source code and project file and rebuilt it so that I now have two expression tree visualizers, one for v3.5 projects and one for v4.0 projects. Is there a better way? Thanks!

It works fine, but I need to call more than 30 different functions, turning my normally impeccable, exquisite code into something of near-elephantine proportions.   • Hosting WCF on IIS5/6

    I have developed a Web service using WCF Service Application. This service application is a part of multiple projects. we have data access , services(business logic) , testing(to test class) and WCF Service application.Where WCF Service application is just like an infterface and all the request are sent to the services project. so all the projects communicate with each other. I am new to hosting WCF application. Now to host this on IIS do i have to put the whole project in the IIS virtual directory?

  • C# / Visual Studio: production and test code placement

    Hi, In JavaLand, I'm used to creating projects that contain both production and test code. I like this practice because it simplifies testing of internal code without artificially exposing the internals in a project's published API. So far, in my experiences with C# / Visual Studio / ReSharper / NUnit, I've created separate projects (i.e., separate DLLs) for production and test code. Is this the idiom, or am I off base? If this idiomatically correct, what's the right way to deal with exposing classes and methods for test purposes? Thanks, -Patrick

  • Code reading: where can i read great, modern, and well-documented C++ code?

    Reading code is one of the best ways to learn new idioms, tricks, and techniques. Sadly it's very common to find badly written C++ code. Some use C++ as it was C, others as if it was Java, some just shoot in their feet. I believe gtkmm is a good example of C++ design, but a binding could not be the better code to read (you need to know the C library behind that). Boost libraries (at least the one I read) tend to be less readable than I'd like. Can you mention open source projects (or other projects which source is freely readable) that are good example of readable, modern, well-documented, and auto-contained, C++ code to learn from? (I believe that one project per answer will be better, and I'd include the motivation that led you to selecting that one.)

  • Xml files stop being served by IIS6 after allowing .net to process the .xml extension

    I added a route into my site to allow for a sitemap and everything worked fine in IIS7 but once I deployed the route stopped working. Since the live server is running IIS6 I needed to put a new mapping in for .xml to be processed by .net and then it started to work. My issue though is on every other xml file on the site now. I keep getting a 404 error when trying to view xml files, but the sitemap.xml route works. Is this a routing issue or an IIS setup issue?   • ASP.NET MVC: What's the difference in concept between Service and Repository

    Hello, The question I'm asking is kind of subjective. I've seen twice, while exercising with real projects such as StoreFront, both Repository and Services. Sometimes they can just be folders or projects attached to the solution. But they contain classes and interfaces. So, I'd like to know what goes to the repository and what goes to the services. So far, I was familiar with repositories (we put methods and properties in the repository to reduce the complexity in the controller). How about the services? So, ASP.NET MVC: What's the difference in concept between Service and Repository? (Maybe none) My question is Kind of subjective, but I'd like to make sure that I'm not missing anything.   • How do I include 2 tables in one LocalStorage item?

    I've got a table that you can edit, and I've got a simple code saving that list when you're done with editing it. (the tables have the contenteditable on) The problem I've stumbled upon is that if I double click on enter, the table gets divided into two separate tables with the same ID. This causes the code I'm using to set the localStorage to only store one of the tables (I assume the first).. I've thought of different solutions and I wonder if someone could point out the pro's and con's (if the solutions even works that is). Make a loop that checks the page after tables and stores them into an array of localStorage-items.. I'd have to dynamically create a localStorage item for each table. Take the whole div that the tables are in, and store that in the localStorage, when a user revisits the page, the page checks after the items in storage and displays the whole divs. Any suggestions you have that can beat this :).. (but no cache, it has to be with the localStorage!) Thanks

  • Visual Studio 2010 SQL Server Database Project - Ignore Stored Procedures and Functions

    I really like the new SQL Server Database projects in Visual Studio 2010. I also like using the "Generate DROP statements for objects that are in the target database but that are not in the database project" option in the deployment properties. However, I do not want to manage Stored Procedures and Functions using this interface; I have another tool for that. Every time I do a build and deploy, VS will drop my stored procedures that I have created with my external program. I would like to essentially "ignore" stored procedures and functions. Is there a way to ignore stored procedures and functions when building SQL Server Database projects? I won't be able to use the "Generate DROP statements..." option if I want to use my external tool for stored procedures and functions.

Multi-value schema attributes get considerably more complicated. Say (for the sake of argument) my value is "Projects" and each user may be a list as many projects as necessary.     just some general and specific questions about running a business which uses open source software and sells training, services, and other value added solutions utilizing the open source asset(s). 1) how much modification do you need to make to an existing open source software/framework to give a new brand ? open source (GPLv3) branding issues here.... for ex) Mambo and Joomla, i think they are pretty much same ? but they have different labels. 2) Is there a disadvantage of promoting open source software/framework/suite in hopes of selling value added services and solutions on top of the Open source asset ? 3) can Open source assets be marketing point for lowered Total Ownership Cost and transparency ? meaning, clients will not be using some mysterious, opaque proprietary asset ? 4) is competition fierce? cost of developing software is non existing because you are using an open source asset. barrier to entry is minimal ??

  • Xaml not WPF

    I am interested in using Xaml with expression blend for creating user interfaces in an application. However, because of the limitations of the target architecture, I cannot use WPF or C#. So, what I am interested in is in any examples / existing projects or advice from anyone who has experiance of this technology on the use of Xaml in it's "Pure" form as a specification language not tied to WPF. Specific questions: 1) Is it possible to use Blend + Xaml without the WPF elements, or without C# backing classes? 2) Are there any other implementations of Xaml parsers etc. which use different architectures, and can they work with blend or similar tools. 3) Are there alternative editor / designer tools which can help in this situation? I am aware of the MyXaml and MycroXaml projects, and have found a lot of resources on the web about Xaml, but 99% of it relates directly to WPF. This is fine for understanding the concepts of Xaml, but doesn't help with the implimentation I need. Many thanks!

  • MySQL query cache vs caching result-sets in the application layer

    I'm running a php/mysql-driven website with a lot of visits and I'm considering the possibility of caching result-sets in shared memory in order to reduce database load. However, right now MySQL's query cache is enabled and it seems to be doing a pretty good job since if I disable query caching, the use of CPU jumps to 100% immediately. Given that situation, I dont know if caching result-sets (or even the generated HTML code) locally in shared memory with PHP will result in any noticeable performace improvement. Does anyone out there have any experience on this matter? PS: Please avoid suggesting heavy-artillery solutions like memcached. Right now I'm looking for simple solutions that dont require too much time to implement, deploy and maintain.

  • Querying MySQL with CodeIgniter, selecting rows where field is NULL

    I'm using CodeIgniter's Active Record class to query the MySQL database. I need to select the rows in a table where a field is not set to NULL: $this->db->where('archived !=', 'NULL'); $q = $this->db->get('projects'); That only returns this query: SELECT * FROM projects WHERE archived != 'NULL'; The archived field is a DATE field. Is there a better way to solve this? I know I can just write the query myself, but I wan't to stick with the Active Record throughout my code.

  • TFS Security and Documents Folder

    I'm getting an issue with TFS where the documents folder is marked with a red cross. As far as I can tell, this seems to be a security issue, however, I am set-up as project admin on the relevant projects. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a security issue from running the TFS Project Admin tool (available here). When I run this, it tells me that I don’t have sufficient access rights to open the project. I’ve checked, and I’m not included in any groups that are denied access. Please can anyone shed any light as to why I may not have sufficient access to these projects?

  • How do I merge a local branch into TFS

    hi, I did a stupid thing and branched my project on my local disk instead of doing it on the TFS. So now I have two projects on my disk: the old one which has TFS bindings and the new, which doesn't. I want to merge those changes back into the TFS project. How would I go about doing that? I can't do Compare because my local branch has no TFS bindings. There should be some way to compare the differences between the two projects locally and then meld the differences into the old project and check-in, but I can't find an easy way of doing that. Any other solutions?

  • What would you recommend for a large-scale Java data grid technology: Terracotta, GigaSpaces, Cohere

    I've been reading up on so-called "data grid" solutions for the Java platform including Terracotta, GigaSpaces and Coherence. I was wondering if anyone has real-world experience working any of these tools and could share their experience. I'm also really curious to know what scale of deployment people have worked with: are we talking 2-4 node clusters or have you worked with anything significantly larger than that? I'm attracted to Terracotta because of its "drop in" support for Hibernate and Spring, both of which we use heavily. I also like the idea of how it decorates bytecode based on configuration and doesn't require you to program against a "grid API." I'm not aware of any advantages to tools which use the approach of an explicit API but would love to hear about them if they do in fact exist. :) I've also spent time reading about memcached but am more interested in hearing feedback on these three specific solutions. I would be curious to hear how they measure up against memcached in the event someone has used both.

    Hey, I have recently started a project in Ruby on Rails. I used to do all my projects before in Python but decided to give Ruby a shot. In the projects I wrote in Python I used a nice little technique explained by the correct answer in this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/277965/dictionary-or-if-statements-jython I use this technique due to Python not having a native switch function and it also get rid of big if else blocks I have been trying to do recreate the above method in Ruby but can't seem to quite get it.
