  • Debug a local maven dependency with eclipse

    i have two maven projects, the first one is a library and the other one use it to works properly, the both have to elvolve regardless each other, this is why i use two different project. But breakpoints on my library code doesn't work when i launch my app (the second application).   • Supporting multiple instances of a plugin DLL with global data

    Context: I converted a legacy standalone engine into a plugin component for a composition tool. Technically, this means that I compiled the engine code base to a C DLL which I invoke from a .NET wrapper using P/Invoke; the wrapper implements an interface defined by the composition tool. This works quite well, but now I receive the request to load multiple instances of the engine, for different projects. Since the engine keeps the project data in a set of global variables, and since the DLL with the engine code base is loaded only once, loading multiple projects means that the project data is overwritten. I can see a number of solutions, but they all have some disadvantages: You can create multiple DLLs with the same code, which are seen as different DLLs by Windows, so their code is not shared. Probably this already works if you have multiple copies of the engine DLL with different names. However, the engine is invoked from the wrapper using DllImport attributes and I think the name of the engine DLL needs to be known when compiling the wrapper. Obviously, if I have to compile different versions of the wrapper for each project, this is quite cumbersome. The engine could run as a separate process. This means that the wrapper would launch a separate process for the engine when it loads a project, and it would use some form of IPC to communicate with this process. While this is a relatively clean solution, it requires some effort to get working, I don't now which IPC technology would be best to set-up this kind of construction. There may also be a significant overhead of the communication: the engine needs to frequently exchange arrays of floating-point numbers. The engine could be adapted to support multiple projects. This means that the global variables should be put into a project structure, and every reference to the globals should be converted to a corresponding reference that is relative to a particular project. There are about 20-30 global variables, but as you can imagine, these global variables are referenced from all over the code base, so this conversion would need to be done in some automatic manner. A related problem is that you should be able to reference the "current" project structure in all places, but passing this along as an extra argument in each and every function signature is also cumbersome. Does there exist a technique (in C) to consider the current call stack and find the nearest enclosing instance of a relevant data value there? Can the stackoverflow community give some advice on these (or other) solutions?

    I see that junctions are a common way of referencing shared code in many projects. However, I have not seen them used in web applications before. Our team is exploring the possibility of abandoning virtual directories in favor of junctions to simplify our build process. My goal is to compile a list of pros and cons in order to make an informed decision regarding this change. Is it more appropriate to use junctions or virtual directories on web application projects? Environment is ASP.NET, IIS6/IIS7, VS.NET.

  • Working effectively unit tests / Anyone tried the in-assembly approach?

    I'm trying to re-introduce unit testing into my team as our current coverage is very poor. Our system is quite large 40+ projects/assemblies. We current use a project named [SystemName].Test.csproj were all the test code is dumped and organised to represent the namespaces using folders. This approach is not very scalable and makes it difficult to find tests. I've been thinking about added a Tests folder to each project, this would put the unit tests "in the developers face" and make them easy to find. The downside is the Production release code would contain references to nunit, nmocks as well as the test code and test data.... Has anyone tried this approach? How is everyone else working with unit tests on large projects? Having a Tests project per "real" project/assembly would introduce too many new projs. Thanks in advance

  • How to generate a report of IIS settings for easy perusal?

    Hello, I'm looking for a way to (hopefully) create a text file which lists all the settings in IIS for.. Virtual Directories Web sites Which framework is used on a certain website/directory directory of hosted files etc. Basically I want to do some investigation on some of our servers to figure out where certain projects are located, without digging through right clicking and looking for the directory name manually, etc, for every domain we host. The reasoning is that I often need to find access to files/projects I haven't worked on before, but historically, we don't have a strong naming scheme, so you can't just look where something "logically" would be - so, generating a list would be very helpful. Something like this would be awesome, but I'm looking for any tips at all Domainname1.com framework: ASP.NET 1.1 directory: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\domainname1.com Applications hosted at this domain: etc, etc. Plain text, XLS, XML.. anything other than right clicking through the whole list!   • How to make one ASP.NET MVC site "derive" from another.

    My question is similar to "ASP.NET 2 projects to share same files", but with an ASP.NET MVC slant. Basically, we have two sites, one being based mostly on the other (roughly 90% views, controllers, images, in the second are identical to the first). However, in some cases, the views may be different, or a controller in the second site may be different to the first. Are there any simple ways of achieving this in ASP.NET MVC? So far, we've looked at using linked files to have two totally seperate projects where the second project shares the files it needs from the first. One problem with this approach is that most pages in the second project don't literally exist in the virtual directory, it makes debugging a pain - you have to publish in order to generate the files so you can debug. Does anyone have any better approaches, or ways this approach can be simplified?

  • MonoDevelop seems to hang (not unresponsive) when building csprojs

    Building a solution from Visual Studio in mono develop seems to have some issues. I'm hoping someone else has experienced this and has some suggestions. The actual dcms process goes pretty quickly, but in between projects it hangs after printing: Building: XXX.YYY.ZZZ (Debug) After a few minutes (been 10 so far on this current run), it jumps to: Performing main compilation... /Library/Frameworks/Mono.framework/Versions/2.10.1/bin/dmcs /noconfig "/... Build complete -- 0 errors, 0 warnings Building: XXX.YYY.ZZZ (Debug) Then hangs again for another few minutes. This is a sln file with 29 csproj projects in it that was originally created in Visual Studio 2010. I'm wondering if there is a better way to set this up - potentially a native MD file format?

  • Primary language - C++/Qt, C#, Java?

    I'm looking for some input, but let me start with a bit of background (for tl;dr skip to end). I'm an IT major with a concentration in networking. While I'm not a CS major nor do I want to program as a vocation, I do consider myself a programmer and do pretty well with the concepts involved. I've been programming since about 6th grade, started out with a proprietary game creation language that made my transition into C++ at college pretty easy. I like to make programs for myself and friends, and have been paid to program for local businesses. A bit about that- I wrote some programs for a couple local businesses in my senior year in high school. I wrote management systems for local shops (inventory, phone/pos orders, timeclock, customer info, and more stuff I can't remember). It definitely turned out to be over my head, as I had never had any formal programming education. It was a great learning experience, but damn was it crappy code. Oh yeah, by the way, it was all vb6. So, I've used vb6 pretty extensively, I've used c++ in my classes (intro to programming up to algorithms), used Java a little bit in another class (had to write a ping client program, pretty easy) and used Java for some simple Project Euler problems to help learn syntax and such when writing the program for the class. I've also used C# a bit for my own simple personal projects (simple programs, one which would just generate an HTTP request on a list of websites and notify if one responded unexpectedly or not at all, and another which just held a list of things to do and periodically reminded me to do them), things I would've written in vb6 a year or two ago. I've just started using Qt C++ for some undergrad research I'm working on. Now I've had some formal education, I [think I] understand organization in programming a lot better (I didn't even use classes in my vb6 programs where I really should have), how it's important to structure code, split into functions where appropriate, document properly, efficiency both in memory and speed, dynamic and modular programming etc. I was looking for some input on which language to pick up as my "primary". As I'm not a "real programmer", it will be mostly hobby projects, but will include some 'real' projects I'm sure. From my perspective: QtC++ and Java are cross platform, which is cool. Java and C# run in a virtual machine, but I'm not sure if that's a big deal (something extra to distribute, possibly a bit slower? I think Qt would require additional distributables too, right?). I don't really know too much more than this, so I appreciate any help, thanks! TL;DR Am an avocational programmer looking for a language, want quick and straight forward development, liked vb6, will be working with database driven GUI apps- should I go with QtC++, Java, C#, or perhaps something else?

  • Markdown to text/plain and text/html for multipart email

    I’m looking for a solution to send DRY multipart emails in Rails. With DRY I mean that the content for the mail is only defined once. I’ve thought about some possible solutions but haven’t found any existing implementations. The solutions I’ve thought about are: load the text from I18n and apply Markdown for the html mail and apply Markdown with a special output type for the text mail where links are put in parenthesis after the link text bold, italic and other formatting that doesn't make sense are removed ordered and unordered lists are maintained generate only the html mail and convert that to text according to the above conditions Is there any available solution out there? Which one is probably the better way to do it?

  • How do you fix "Too many open files" problem in Hudson?

    We use Hudson as a continuous integration system to execute automated builds (nightly and based on CVS polling) of a lot of our projects. Some projects poll CVS every 15 minutes, some others poll every 5 minutes and some poll every hour. Every few weeks we'll get a build that fails with the following output: FATAL: java.io.IOException: Too many open files java.io.IOException: java.io.IOException: Too many open files at java.lang.UNIXProcess.<init>(UNIXProcess.java:148) The next build always worked (with 0 changes) so we always chalked it up to 2 build jobs being run at the same time and happening to have too many files open during the process. This weekend we had a build fail Friday night (automatic nightly build) with the message and every other nightly build also failed. Somehow this triggered Hudson to continuously build every project which failed until the issue was resolved. This resulted in a build every 30 minutes or so of every project until sometime Saturday night when the issue magically disappeared.

The below snippet replaces tokens in any of the *.xml files with the corresponding values from my.properties file. <replace dir="${projects.prj.dir}/config" replacefilterfile="${projects.prj.dir}/my.properties" includes="*.xml" summary="true"/'> I want those *.xml files that had their tokens replaced be created as *.xml.filtered (for e.g.) and still have the original *.xml. Is this possible in Ant with some smart combination of tasks and concepts ?

    I'm wondering about the current support there is in Ruby for semantic web technologies. Is there good RDF options? It seems that the last surveys done were circa 2007 ( http://paul-classic.stadig.name/2007/10/26/the-state-of-rdf-support-in-ruby-2007/ ). Is Redland's RDF wrappers the best way to go for RDF support - all the other projects mentioned in that aging article seem to be unsupported or dropped. Is Ruby perhaps a bad choice if one which to pursue projects pertaining to the semantic web?

    Hi, How can I create two CCK fields where the latter has values based on the first selection? In my case I have a few programs which can be selected and then projects that are related to programs. I need to have two separate fields for them. Example: Programs: Program1 Program2 Projects: Project1 (related to Program1) Project2 (related to Program2) Project3 (related to Program2) If program "Program1" is selected, then the user should only be able to select "Project1" and in case of "Program2" is selected, the options should be "Project2" or "Project3". I'm using Drupal 6.20 and I've already tried using Conditional Fields and Computed Fields modules, but they don't really solve my problem. Any help is much appreciated!

  • Test for undefined references in Linux

    Is there a built in linux utility that I can use to test a newly compiled shared library for external undefined references? Gcc seems to be intelligent enough to check for undefined symbols in my own binary, but if the symbol is a reference to another library gcc does not check at link time. Instead I only get the message when I try to link to my new library from another program. It seems a little silly to get undefined reference messages in a library when I am compiling a different project so I want to know if I can do a check on all references internal and external when I build the library not when I link to it.   • Is it possible to generate plain-old XML using Haml?

    I've been working on a piece of software where I need to generate a custom XML file to send back to a client application. The current solutions on Ruby/Rails world for generating XML files are slow, at best. Using builder or event Nokogiri, while have a nice syntax and are maintainable solutions, they consume too much time and processing. I definetly could go to ERB, which provides a good speed at the expense of building the whole XML by hand. HAML is a great tool, have a nice and straight-forward syntax and is fairly fast. But I'm struggling to build pure XML files using it. Which makes me wonder, is it possible at all? Does any one have some pointers to some code or docs showing how to do this, build a full, valid XML from HAML?

    My UI is not updating when I expect it to. The application displays "projects" using a view similar to iTunes -- a source list on the left lets you filter a list (NSTableView) on the right. My filters update properly when they are examining any simple field (like name, a string), but not for arrays (like tags). I'm removing a tag from one of my objects (from an NSMutableArray field called "tags") and I expect it to disappear from the list because it no longer matches the predicate that is bound to my table's NSArrayController.     Hi, I have a system with 2 different projects, one is called LINQ_Extensions and the other is ORM_Linq. On ORM_Linq i have the LINQ diagram with the SQL tables "converted" in clases. One of the Class is called "Tipos_Pago" In the other project i have another class (partial class) "Tipos_Pago". I want to use the method OnValidate to validate the properties include in the class "Tipos_Pago", so i create this partial class. In the 2 projects i put the same NameSpace "ORM_Linq"(I changed the NameSpace of the project "LINQ_Extensions" to have the same of the project "ORM_Linq") After those chages, Visual Studio give me this error: Error 1 No defining declaration found for implementing declaration of partial method 'ORM_Linq.Tipos_Pago.OnValidate(System.Data.Linq.ChangeAction)' C..\Tipos_Pago.cs 13 22 Extensiones_Linq I don't have any Idea of what happend, can someone help me?   • How can I progrommatically change the target framework from 4.0 to 3.5 of a project/solution?

    Edit 3: After more googling it looks like you can't have the TargetFrameworkMoniker property in a .NET 3.5 application. So I guess I should be asking a different question. How do I change the Target framework from 4.0 to 3.5? Unfortunately, I can only find stuff on how to go the other way. or better yet how do i progrommatically set the target framework version of a project to something other than 4.0? Original question: I just switched to vs2010. I have an application that uses .net 3.5. It loads plugins which are generated by a different app. The plugins are using .net 4 and there for cannot be loaded. I'm using EnvDTE.Project to create a project and set the settings. I can't find what setting needs to be set for this. Edit 1: I'm generating code for about 50 solutions. When I made the switch from vs2005 to vs2010 the projects in those solutions are defaulting to .NET Framework 4.0. So I need to set the .NET Framework to 3.5 when I am generating the code for these solutions. Edit 2: After a lot of googling I found this. so then I tried this: loProp = vsGetProperty("TargetFrameworkMoniker"); vsSetValue(loProp, ".NETFramework,Version=v3.5"); the definitions for those two methods are below. as far as I can tell they do the same this as project.Properties.Item("TargetFrameworkMoniker").Value = ".NETFramework,Version=v4.0,Profile=Client"; I start getting an Property Unavailable Exception later in the code. When I remove the new lines everything works except the projects target framework is still 4.0. Write a charityware application such as Vim, improve an office IT infrastructure to support telecommuting and reduce CO2 emissions, use an ebook reader for saving paper... what else would you? which projects do you think can have an impact?

  • Ways not to write function headers twice?

    Hi, I've got a C/C++ question, can I reuse functions across different object files or projects without writing the function headers twice? (one for defining the function and one for declaring it) I don't know much about C/C++, Delphi and D. I assume that in Delphi or D, you would just write once what arguments a function takes and then you can use the function across diferent projects. And in C you need the function declaration in header files *again??, right?. Is there a good tool that will create header files from C sources? I've got one, but it's not preprocessor-aware and not very strict. And I've had some macro technique that worked rather bad. I'm looking for ways to program in C/C++ like described here http://www.digitalmars.com/d/1.0/pretod.html

    I've used mysql's update replace function before, but even though I think I'm following the same syntax, I can't get this to work-it matches the rows, but doesn't replace.   • Missing System.Core.dll and others on Visual Studio 2010 Project targeting 3.5 Framework

    I just got Visual Studio 2010 installed and running on my development machine (alongside VS 2008). The first thing I did was make a copy of an existing project and convert it up to the VS 2010 project. I told the conversion wizard to leave the project targeting the 3.5 framework. The project compiles and runs just fine in VS 2008. When I go to build it, several of my references are marked as missing (System.Core, System.Xml.Linq, System.Data.DataSetExtensions). When I go to the Add Reference dialog, they are not present. Yet if I view the GAC at C:\Windows\Assembly, I can see the entries there. I have tried converting the projects to 4.0, then back down to 3.5, and also unloading/reloading the projects. Nothing works. Has anyone else ran across this problem?

  • Pros and Cons of Access Data Project (MS Access front end with SQL Server Backend)

    I have been tasked with moving an existing MS Access application (mdb) over to an Access Data Project (adp). Basically the Access forms will remain the same but the data will be migrated over to SQL Server. I am not too familiar with Access Data Projects so I was hoping I could get some opinions on the pros and cons of using them. My first thought was to convert this to a web application or even a Winform application, however I really wanted to perform due dilligence in looking at Access Data Projects before making a decision. Thanks for any assistance.
