  • Dispaly a gallery of images that are stored as Drawables in a List

    Hello - I am trying to modify this example: http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/views/hello-gridview.html But instead of displaying images that are resources, I want to display Drawables that I currently am storing in a List. Can anyone instruct me on how I would modify private Integer[] mThumbIds = { R.drawable.sample_2, R.drawable.sample_3, R.drawable.sample_4, R.drawable.sample_5, R.drawable.sample_6, R.drawable.sample_7, R.drawable.sample_0, R.drawable.sample_1, R.drawable.sample_2, R.drawable.sample_3, R.drawable.sample_4, R.drawable.sample_5, R.drawable.sample_6, R.drawable.sample_7, R.drawable.sample_0, R.drawable.sample_1, R.drawable.sample_2, R.drawable.sample_3, R.drawable.sample_4, R.drawable.sample_5, R.drawable.sample_6, R.drawable.sample_7 }; To display my drawable items instead?   • WPF/.NET data access models - resource recommendations

    We're in the early design/prep phases of transferring/updating a rather large "legacy" 3 tier client-server app to a new version. We’re looking at doing WPF over Winforms as it appears to be the direction Microsoft is pushing development of the future and we’d like the maximize the life cycle/span of the apps. That said during the rewrite we’d like to make as many changes to our data access/presentation model to improve performance as much as possible up front as many. I’ve been doing some research along that vein but the vast majority of the resources I've found that discuss WPF focus only simple data tracking apps or focus on the very basics UI design/controls. The few items that even discuss data presentation are fairly elementary in depth. Are there any books/articles/recommended reading/other resources recommended for development related to large enterprise level business apps? Any “gotchas” that should/could be avoided? General advice to minimize the time underwater

  • Port forwarding using a BT Home Hub 2.0 (Supplied to new BT Infinity Customers in the UK)

    I don't usually have trouble with port forwarding, I've been able to do it successfully on a number of different routers, including Linksys, Belkin, Netgear and Apple (Time Capsule / Airport Extreme). So I'm quite confused here. I had been using my Apple Time Capsule as my router for a few years now, with several port mappings all working fine. But it died recently, so I've had to resort to using the BT Home Hub 2.0 that was supplied with my BT Infinity broadband subscription. The forwarding interface for the Home Hub is simplified for the most part, allowing you to select an application or game and assign it to a particular computer on the network which you choose from a list that the Home Hub has 'discovered'. My Mac Pro has a manually assigned static IP 192.168.1.4 and my router is static at 192.168.1. I have chosen SSH from the list of applications and assigned it to my Mac Pro (the only computer in the list currently). The Home Hub also has a feature to keep a DNS service updated, and I have set it to keep my external IP address updated on my hostname. This is how I had it setup in the past with other routers and not had trouble before. I am able to ping my hostname (and external IP) from outside the network and get a response. But when I try to connect using SSH, the connection times out. The Home Hub also has "Firewall settings". The currently selected setting is: Default: Allow all outgoing connections and block all incoming traffic. Games and application sharing is allowed. But I've tried changing it to: Disabled: All traffic is allowed to pass through your BT Home Hub to your devices. Note: you’ll still need to use the games and application sharing feature to make sure that certain applications work properly. And the connection still times out... So frustrating. The OS X firewall on my Mac is disabled, so I don't think that's in the way. I have tried setting the port forwarding manually, instead of relying on the preset "SSH" option (incase it's not using the port I expect). So I set up my own "application" (as the Home Hub calls it) and forwarded external port 22 TCP to internal port 22 TCP to 192.168.1.4 - but that just gives the same result - unable to connect. Next, with the router's firewall disabled and OS X's firewall disabled, I ran the Shields Up test (https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2) and the result was that all my service ports (0 - 1055) are in 'Stealth' mode. I.e. nothing even exists at my IP as far as any outsider is concerned... Strange. The only thing that seems to work is setting my Mac Pro as the DMZ - which I don't want to do for obvious reasons. Any help with this would be extremely appreciated, thanks.

  • Changing UINavigationBar font in Swift

    I have a UINavigationBar with a title in the middle. I have added a custom font ("Comic_Andy.ttf") to my app (I have checked info.plist to make sure it's listed, and I have checked the Copy Bundle Resources to make sure it has been added), and I would like the title of the UINavigationBar to be displayed in that font. From what I can gather it seems as though I'm supposed to use this in my ViewController: myNavigationBar.titleTextAttributes = [NSFontAttributeName: UIFont(name: "Comic_Andy", size: 22)] I placed that method in the viewDidLoad function of the ViewController. I have also tried this in the didFinishLaunchingWithOptions function of the AppDelegate: UINavigationBar.appearance().titleTextAttributes = [NSFontAttributeName: UIFont(name: "Comic_Andy", size: 22)] I am programming in Swift, in XCode 6 Beta 6. Many resources regarding this task have mentioned using a method called setTitleTextAttributes, which is nowhere to be seen. I can't figure it out for the life of me - I've probably spent close to 3 hours on it by now - I have checked every StackOverflow answer, every website, so please do not mark this as a duplicate.   • maven-archetype-webapp eclipse problem

    Hi all, I'm trying to create a very simple webapp with maven and eclipse, but I'm having no joy at all, in fact the reverse of joy. I go to File - New Project, select Maven Project, and select the maven-archetype-webapp. When I finish the wizard, a webapp structure gets generated but with no 'java' directory under main, just resources and webapp. So I right click on main and select new Class. The class gets created under resources (?!), and furthermore, there seems to be no compilation of it by java. I can make stupid errors and no syntax highlighting comes up. It's like java isn't recognizing it. Alternatively I have tried creating a new 'java' directory under main where it should be, but still with the same non-existent java symptoms. What gives? This is driving me insane.. Thanks all!

    I have a file sharing website, and my files hosted in a server with those system specifications: 32GB RAM 12x3TB 2x Intel Quad Core E5620 I have files in this server up to 4gb for each file. 446gb is full (/36TB) [root@hosted-by ~]# df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda2 50G 2.7G 44G 6% / tmpfs 16G 0 16G 0% /dev/shm /dev/sda1 97M 57M 36M 62% /boot /dev/mapper/VolGroup01-LogVol00 33T 494G 33T 2% /home And take a look at this: Why is the wa% so high? (I think that what makes the server to be so slow)

  • Combining regroup with get_foo_display in Django templates

    I'm using the regroup template tag to group queryset output on a Choices field. In the model: RESOURCE_TYPES = ( ('tut','External tutorial'), ('read','Additional reading'), ('org','Company or organization'), ) restype = models.CharField('Resource type',max_length=6,choices=RESOURCE_TYPES) in the view: resources = Resource.objects.filter(tutorial=tutorial) in the template: {% regroup resources by restype as resource_list %} {% for type in resource_list %} <h3>{{type.grouper}}</h3> So type.grouper renders as 'tut' or 'org' on the page, rather than the long form. Normally you would use the get_foo_display syntax to get at the value of the choice, rather than the key. But the value doesn't seem to be available after going through regroup. There's no way I can find to use get_foo_display on {{type.grouper}}. It makes sense when you think about it, but what's the workaround? Thanks.

  • Windows 7 Remote Desktop Connection Rendering Each Frame?

    When connecting to my work computer over VPN and Remote Desktop Connection, images and videos are sent back one frame at a time, which really slows things down. I'm familiar with the "Experience" tab while connecting and the only options I have checked are "Visual styles" and "Persistent bitmap caching". Isn't it possible to work remotely that is more similar to screen sharing over Skype, where there is a lag but not every single frame has to be rendered and passed back to me one at a time? Both computers are running Windows 7 Professional.

    I want to set up a server for small group meetings. I'm looking for features like audio conferencing, multi-point video, screen sharing... stuff like that. I'm familiar/comfortable administering Ubuntu servers, so for this task I'd likely fire up a small EC2 server running Ubuntu. I'm most interested in using FLOSS. I see there are at least a couple of options out there. For example: bigbluebutton and openmeetings. Anyone installed either (or a different one) and have recommendations/tips? If yes, have you ever upgraded same? I notice bigbluebutton has deb packages, so that might be pretty straightforward. openmeetings appears to support logging in with a facebook account; that might be a good way to avoid having to manage logins.

Some clients I've looked so far: Blink, seems promising but the Linux variant lacks a lot of features Twinkle Latest release is ~2 years old. AFAIK the only one capable of encrypting calls using zrtp. Empathy: default tool for IM on ubuntu Ekiga Some features I'd like to see: availablity of buddies conference calls call log chat desktop sharing (Blink seems to do that for Mac) So my question is: what client software do you prefer and for what reason?

  • What is the fastest way to learn JPA ?

    I'm looking for the best resources (books, frameworks, tutorials) that will help me get up to speed with JPA. I've been happily using iBatis/JDBC for my persistence needs, so I need resources that will hopefully provide comparable functions on how to do things. e.g. how to I set the isolation level for each transaction ? I know there might be 10 books on the topic, so hopefully, your recommendation could narrow down to the best 2 books. Should I start with OpenJPA or are there other opensource JPA frameworks to use ? P.S. Do suggest if I should learn JPA2 or JPA1 ? My goal ultimately is to be able to write a Google App Engine app (which uses JPA1). Thanks Jacque

  • Rails has-and-belongs-to-many form question

    Sorry for the semi-generic title, but I'm still pretty new at rails and couldn't think of a succinct way to put the question. I have a basic habtm model setup: a Project has many Resources and a Resource can have many Projects. I have the database and models setup properly, and can do everything I need to via the console, but I'm having trouble translating it all into the view. On the show view for the Project, I want to be able to create a Resource and automatically assign it to the current Project. Here's my basic html: <p> <b>Name:</b> <%=h @project.name %> </p> <h2>Equipment</h2> <ul> <% @project.resources.each do |r| %> <li><%=h r.name %></li> <% end %> </ul> <h2>Add A Resource</h2> <% form_for(@project) do |f| %> <%= f.error_messages %> <p> Resource Name:<br /> <%= f.text_field :resources %> </p> <p> <%= f.submit 'Create' %> </p> <% end %> Obviously, that form won't work, but I'm at a loss for what to do next. I've searched around for various examples, but haven't found one for what I'm trying to do here. One thing I've thought of was to change the form to be form_for(Resource.new) and include a hidden input of the @project.id. And then when the resource_controller handles the form, check for that id and go from there. That seems like an ugly kludge though.

  • What filesystem for shared (read/write) PC/Mac external drive?

    Is there a recommended filesystem to use when sharing an external drive between the Mac and PC? I understand there are options for Macs to read/write NTFS filesystems and also for PCs to read/write HFS+ filesystems. Is there a preferred filesystem or perhaps a different filesystem that both Mac and PC and read/write? I know I could use FAT32 but some of the files I use are larger than 4 GB (i.e. Virtual Machine images)

  • Handling multiple exceptions

    Hi there, I have written a class which loads configuration objects of my application and keeps track of them so that I can easily write out changes or reload the whole configuration at once with a single method call. However, each configuration object might potentially throw an exception when doing IO, yet I do not want those errors to cancel the overall process so that the other objects are still given a chance to reload/write. Therefore I collect all exceptions which are thrown while iterating over the objects and store them in a super-exception, which is thrown after the loop, since each exception must still be handled and someone has to be notified of what exactly went wrong. However, that approach looks a bit odd to me. Someone out there with a cleaner solution? In fact, I'm looking for recommendations of materials that focus on the higher level concepts with examples that could port well to any language so even ASP.net books will be tolerated ;-) Any recommendations for books, websites, blogs, etc would be excellent. UPDATE: I have reviewed the MVC Learning Resources post but all of the references there seemed to be ASP.net specific. I was hoping to gather suggestions that were broader than a single language.

What am I doing wrong?
