• My domain PageRank shows as unavailable, why is that?

  My domain, http://www.anovaordemmundial.com , has been snatched by some opportunist when I failed to renew the domain. I know, it's all my fault :/ . After I have being ripped off and bought my domain back, and everything is configured and working, the pagerank for that domain shows as unavailable. Also searches for "nova ordem mundial" (in portuguese), which used to show my domain as the first result in searches in any language, now don't show it anymore. Do you think this is something temporary and it will recover its pagerank after a full crawl by google? There exists hundreds of sites pointing to my domain, that is why I got the previous relevance in searches. The domain is back for more than 5 days already. In reality, bing already Is there anything I can do to help get my domain back to its pagerank??? Thanks for the help!

  It is written everywhere that lack of original content is has a negative impact on ranking. But what is lack of original content? (I am not talking about duplicate content) I guess if you copy other site's content, this makes sense. But, assuming one develops its own functionalities, but similar functionalities are already available on other sites, is this considered lack of original content? Can Google decide to not index such pages (i.e., not give them a chance at all)? Are there other definition of 'lack of original content'?

  Should I be using WAI-ARIA in my website builds? Will it have any benefit? Is anyone adding 'role' to their code at the moment? The tab, link, checkbox and slider roles, plus many more, aren't available yet for HTML5. From looking at the list of what is available (see below), and what will be coming in the future, it looks like we might be applying roles to a huge amount of tags on our pages. Its not an issue especially if it brings benefit to users using readers etc Also, a side question, will search engines give any benefits to sites using WAI-ARIA? • Windows XP self-installing virus [closed]

  Do you remember. Some years ago, there was a huge virus attacking Windows XP in its first version. Once you had installed Windows XP, and on your first internet access, the virus installed itself on your computer, closing your internet connection and making the computer reboot after some seconds. I wonder... How can a virus install itslef this way from nowhere ? Without any user action. You install Windows XP... the computer just connects itself to the internet (assuming Microsoft don't connect to bad sites on its first connection)... and you have a virus. There is something magic I don't understand here. Can someone explain me how that virus could attack Windows that way, without any user action on a fresh installed system...

• Apache2 Unwantingly Allowing Proxy Requests

  I'm not sure if this is the right location, but this is fairly urgent. I have completely removed all traces of mod_proxy and the other mod_proxy mods, although the Apache server continues to allow proxy requests. I have restarted numerous times, and have shut down until I can find an answer. I've noticed lots of requests from IPs in and around China to external sites such as free movie downloads and such. I'd like to prevent this from happening. I'll be grateful for any help I get.

• how to fix bad seo after being hacked

  About a year ago my wordpress website was hacked & some company decided to go nuts and actually do some "SEO" on the various links it created. Some of the pages would show up on google as "payday cash advance" instead of "portfolio". The issue has been resolved, but now as I've been doing GOOD seo, I've noticed (when checking backlinks) that there are TONS of links still on the internet (mostly broken sites now) that have links to my website with titles like: "get a loan today" and so on. Is there a way to remove these links ? Can I tell google to ignore them ? Help !

• New host, high load?

  A few minutes ago I signed up at a new webhost. I have yet to move my sites over. Upon initial SSH connection, I checked the load and memory usage, they do seem rather higher than I would like: # uptime 12:06:51 up 71 days, 23:23, 1 user, load average: 9.02, 9.49, 9.45 # free total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 33014800 31927192 1087608 0 2384812 17729816 -/+ buffers/cache: 11812564 21202236 Swap: 16787916 8584 16779332 Is that a bit to packed? I'm only paying about $5 USD per month, so I don't expect <0.1 loads, but ~10 is worrisome. Is it not? Also, there is no /etc/issue file so I tried other methods to guess the OS: # uname -a Linux box358.bluehost.com 2.6.32-20120131.55.1.bh6.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Jan 31 15:43:27 EST 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux # which yum /usr/bin/yum # which apt-get # That looks like CentOS / RHEL 6.2 possibly?

• Group "Discussion" software?

  My client wants a "lite" forum... not unlike these stack exchange sites, but even a little lighter. There's a screenshot of the discussion group she likes most, below. You can also go here to see it for yourself it you like. I don't think traditional forum apps will display, functionally, in this manner. Is there any software I can use to get a similar result? A web service would be acceptable as well.

• Changed username. Now I cannot log on or view my previous files

  I want to change my username and followed the instructions from How do I change my username? by creating a temp user with admin privileges. While logged in as temp, I did : sudo usermod -l newname oldname sudo usermod -d /home/newname -m newname Now I cannot log in under newname and /home only lists newname and temp Reading through other sites now, it seems I should have used usermod -d /home/newname -m oldname Based on this, I think I may have deleted the contents of my previous home folder?? I'm sure I'm not the first person to do some stupid while changing username, but any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

• Google webmaster tools / Geographic location settings

  I am building an website. It has an .nl domain. Now only my domain is showing up on google.nl I hope I can change this somehow that it could be findable in all google's (like google.com / co.uk) and so on. If I look on google forums. They say go to webmaster tools and change your geographic position over there. But I have added this site and I am not able to change it there because there is no select box. I dont have any idea were to search (yes I searched on google offcourse) or where to ask for this special problem. So maybe here can someone redirect me or explain me what is possible and what not. • Chicago Alt.NET Presentation Aftermath

  Right now I’m on the train on my way back from Chicago. It’s interesting to be drinking a Corona and hanging out in the lounge while I’m watching the miles go by. Chicago was a nice time. I had never been so we decided to vacation in Chicago and see the sites – posts coming at the other blog. My presentation was on UppercuT. It was a small group that came to the presentation which makes for an more engaging audience. Overall it was a pretty good presentation and I enjoyed it. We got a little comfortable and ventured off track for a few minutes and talked about RoundhousE as well. I would definitely come back out to Chicago and present or go to a Code Camp. • Correctly indexing multiple domains with same content in Google and others

  I have a client with a dozen territorial domains, like mydomain.co.uk, mydomain.fr, mydomain.de, etc Most of these domains hold a different language of the same dynamic content (shop), but some, like co.uk and .com, have the same language and content, except for some content customized to each country/domain in the front page, contact and other pages. I am aware that we should use the canonical meta tag to mark those duplicated contents, but, we want the co.uk to be present in UK ( indexed in google.co.uk ) and the .com to be present in US and other countries, for example, or least that is the goal. Is there anything we can do to "help" google determine the geographical meaning of each domain? If we mark with canonical tag the .com and co.uk sites, do you know how google will decide which one to show on a given search?

Can I use it for the ecommerce site as well? I did read EV is recommended for web sites.. I would like to know what to use and the recommended procedures. • CDN for site with target market in Australia

  I was told that http://www.edgecast.com/ is very good CDN provider for Australian market. I have a cloud server based in Sydney Australia but was wondering whether it's even worth getting cdn as my target market is only Australia based also. Would I see any performance gain if I use above CDN services or would this be more for sites that target international visitors? I have Apache installed in our server but I would like to install Nginx. Would I see much more gain in performance on this change than CDN or should I go for both as they are all beneficial?

I have been an OsCommerce developer for years now, and im finding alot of my clients are wanting updated looking backends ... OSC is fantastic, but the fact that its not being updated anymore and that its clunky and table based is taking up quite a bit of my time. I have built a few sites on Magento, and although it gives quite a good backend, it is the slowest shopping cart i have ever come across in my time, that and the fact that modifying it takes years, has convinced me not to use that again. • Where can I find simple, but well-written programs to learn from?

  I've tried a few times to look at the source code for various things from github or other sites, in javascript, C#, PHP, etc. I'm never able to understand the programs as a whole though. I can sort of piece together what a specific snippet of code does, but I quickly lose the context of what I'm looking at and how it fits in. I want to be able to improve, but everything I've tried learning from so far has been too big. Where can I find well-written, but not very complex source code to look at? edit: Sorry, to be more specific, I'm hoping for javascript/php/C#.
