    I was surprised by the fact that Map<?,?> is not a Collection<?>. I thought it'd make a LOT of sense if it was declared as such: public interface Map<K,V> extends Collection<Map.Entry<K,V>> After all, a Map<K,V> is a collection of Map.Entry<K,V>, isn't it? So is there a good reason why it's not implemented as such?

  • Removing an object in a child collection in MongoDB

    I've got a collection of content. Said collection has a collection of responses as such Content : [{ 'id' : '1234', 'Responses' : [{ 'id' : '12345' } etc. Now, I want to remove response 12345, but I don't want to remove all of the responses. I can't seem to find the command to do so. I'm getting the impression that the correct action is to grab the object, rebuild the Responses without the one I want removed, and then save the Content object as a whole. Provided there are many responses, this seems like a bad practice to have to load the entire object that way.

    Im trying to parse an xml feed that looks something like this: <item> <title>item title</title> <link>item link</link> <description>item description</description> </item> I'm trying to find an xpath expression that will retrieve all the details of each item so that each item in the feed is contained within its own array or grouped in some way. I tried using //item/* but the tags are not grouped, although they are correctly ordered. Is there anyway of doing that? edit: [ [title1, link1, desc1], [title2, link2, desc2], [title3, link3, desc3] ]

    When I evaluate a for in Scala, I get an immutable IndexedSeq (a collection with array-like performance characteristics, such as efficient random access): scala> val s = for (i <- 0 to 9) yield math.random + i s: scala.collection.immutable.IndexedSeq[Double] = Vector(0.6127056766832756, 1.7137598183155291, ... Does a for with a yield always return an IndexedSeq, or can it also return some other type of collection class (a LinearSeq, for example)? If it can also return something else, then what determines the return type, and how can I influence it? I'm using Scala 2.8.0.RC3.

    Hi, I have a web app, I want to define my index.jsp file to be shown when the entered url is like: www.mysite.com www.mysite.com/ www.mysite.com/index.jsp but if any other url is entered, like: wwww.mysite.com/g I want a particular servlet to handle the request. In my web.xml file, I am doing this: <servlet> <servlet-name>ServletCore</servlet-name> <servlet-class>com.me.test.ServletCore</servlet-class> </servlet> <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>ServletCore</servlet-name> <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> so that is letting the ServletCore servlet pick up any url, but as expected it is taking over even the: www.mysite.com/index.jsp type urls. How can I define it in such a way to work how I want? Thank you

    Question: What is a good datatype to keep in session for a large collection of keys and values to frequently reference and update? Application: Updating an old .NET web app with a million pages and grids to have all the grids maintain their sort. They currently access helper code to format themselves graphically on load and on sort. I figured I could add to that code to check for a key based on the page and grid id in a collection in session to see if it has a previous expression on load. and the on sort update/add its appropriate item in the collection.     I have this XSLT: <xsl:strip-space elements="*" /> <xsl:template match="math"> <img class="math"> <xsl:attribute name="src">http://latex.codecogs.com/gif.latex?<xsl:value-of select="text()" /></xsl:attribute> </img> </xsl:template> Which is being applied to this XML (notice the line break): <math>\text{average} = \alpha \times \text{data} + (1-\alpha) \times \text{average}</math> Unfortunately, the transform creates this: <img class="math" src="http://latex.codecogs.com/gif.latex?\text{average} = \alpha \times \text{data} + (1-\alpha) \times&#10;&#9;&#9;&#9;&#9;&#9;\text{average}" /> Notice the whitespace character literals. Although it works, it's awfully messy. How can I prevent this?

  • How do I get MSBuild Task to generate XML Documents when building a solution?

    I have a solution with lots of projects. Each project is configured to generate the XML documentation file when building in Debug-Mode (which is default). That works when I build in Visual Studio 2008. In my build script on my integration server I advise MSBuild to build the whole solution, but it won't generate the documentation files. What can I do? I already tried to explicitly give the Debug-Condition to the build process, but it makes no difference. <Target Name="BuilSolution"> <MSBuild Projects="C:\Path\To\MySolution.sln" targets="Build" Properties="SolutionConfigurationPlatforms='Debug|Any CPU'"/> </Target> There seem to be some ideas to solve this problem when building single projects, but I can't afford to do this, so I need a hint for doing it this way.     I'm trying to store types in a collection, so that i can later instantiate objects of the types in the collection. But I'm not sure how to do this the best way. What i have so far: List<Type> list = new List<Type>(); list.Add(typeof(MyClass)); var obj = (MyClass)Activator.CreateInstance(list[0]); I would like to have some constrains on the Type, or better yet, just a generic type in the collection instead of an instantiated Type object. Is this possible?

  • Possible to add hook as android fetches XML-strings?

    I'm on my first week with android and would appreciate any insight if it's possible to hook or override the default behaviour when an android application reads their values from the resource-files to the shown layouts. What I want is to over time be able to add new/updated strings OTA and store locally and then on launch of application load new values instead of the ones in the default /res. Ideally i guess, would be an override of setContentView. Files holding updates will be in same xml-format as those in /res. (Please, no advices in other ways to do this. Just need to know if it's at all possible, without hacking the SDK) regards, /t

Then I put in my LDAP password, and I get this svn: The OPTIONS response did not include the requested activity-collection-set; this often means that the URL is not WebDAV-enabled What do I need to do to resolve this? The previous IT guy had all sorts of weird ways of setting up stuff on the network.

  • Using heavyweight ORM implementation for light based games

    I'm just about to engulf myself in an MVC-based/Component architecture in C#, using MySQL's connector/Net for the data storage, and probably some NHibernate/FluentNHibernate Object-relational-mapping to map out the data structure. The goal is to build a scalable 2D RPG. Then I think about it...and I can't help but think this seems a little "heavy weight" for a 2D RPG, especially one which, while I plan to incorporate a lot of functionality and entertaining gameplay, may be ported to something like Windows Phone or Android in the future. Yet, on the other hand even a 2-Dimensional RPG can become very complicated, and therefore must incorporate a lot of functionality. While this can be accomplished with text/XML/JSON for data storage, is there a better way? Is something such as Object-Relational-Mapping useful in such an application? So, what do you think? Would you say that there is a place for such technologies? I don't know what to think...

But most programs writes the output message to stdout in custom format and usually in human readable format. So it requires the system integrator to write a function to parse the output, which is considered trouble and the parser code may be buggy. Do you think this is old fashioned? Most Unix-style programs do that. Very few programs write to stdout in standard format such as XML or JSON, which is more modern. Example: Veracity (DVCS) writes JSON to stdout. Should we switch to use modern formats? For a console program, human readable or easy parsable: which is more important ?

    Examining a blogger template's img tag (data:post.thumbnailUrl) i've approached a mystery. An inline style tag controlling the width, margin and heigh perimeters are getting added to my img element. They are auto adjusting the images ratio to fit a smaller size. But I can't figure-out where this style tag script lives and how it's happening in my template. My template has no special javascript or jquery scripts. The full size images in the single posts page don't have this style tag.     This is a naming things question. I am processing trees (XML documents), and there are often special rules applied to nodes based on structure. It's been very difficult coming up with concise naming conventions for some cases, namely for nodes in the first position among their siblings, along with some recursive relationship: Given an arbitrary node, I want to describe its first child, and then that node's first child, and so on recursively. Given another arbitrary node, I want to describe its parent if the parent is first among its siblings, and that parent's parent if it's first, and so on recursively. Is there existing terminology to describe these tree positions? How would you name a variable or function that captures one of these cases so that it's intuitive to an unfamiliar developer trying to understand an algorithm?

    Is it possible to have an online site to see the list/collection of installed extensions of the Chrome browsers installed among my PCs? Please share. ps. I notice that we have the Chrome backup feature which will restore my chrome extensions after we sign in via a Google account. So I need to see the list online somewhere so that to disabled/remove the extensions that I don't wanna waste time reinstalling.
