• memory issue iPad 4.2 crashes

  I am developing a application which receives 600-700 KB of XML data from the server. I have to do some manipulations in that data so once received the data the memory increases to 600 KB to 2 M.B. Already view occupied 4 M.B of memory in the application. So while processing the XML data i m doing some manipulation(pre-parsing) and the memory increases to 600 K.B to 2 M.B and finally decreases to 600 K.B. due to increase in memory, application gives the memory warning. While getting memory warning i m releasing all the views in the navigation controller but it releases only 1 M.B of memory. Even though I release all the views the application is crashing. Please help me out in this issue. It happens in iPad 4.2. Thanks in advance

• A little bit more complicated multiview App for Iphone

  Hi, i'm new to iphone development. I spend several days by looking for how write muliview app for an Iphone OS. I found how to switch the diferent views without navigation hierarchy (in this article). It's great, but i want more complicated function. For example, i have three diferent views (view 1 - 3) and i can switch between them with technique from link 1. It works fine. My question is: How can i put UITabBarController on view 2, that shows own subviews (tabView 1 - 3) and how put UINavigationController on view 3, that shows own subviews (navView 1 - 2)? The reslut should look like that, one main view (view 1) with two buttons (for example), which switch me to "window" with UiTabBarController or UINavigationController. I found only tutorials, where UITabBarController was a first controller class, that shows directly from AppDelegate (something like default Xcode predefined scenarios). Thanks for your helpfull answer, or i will be crazy soon:).

• How do I make these layers not overlap?

I tried using z-index, but it didn't work. 2 ) I'm trying to make the div #search align directly beneath the "More", but upon setting the width of #search, it aligns to the left side. 3 ) When I hover over the navigation on the left, the popup is being overlapped by the text in the middle. I want the popup to be on top of the text.

• Display archive posts in Wordpress

  I am looking to display archives pages as a normal posts page... So, a posts page with a secondary navigation showing: Latest posts / Last month / Last year / Older On each of those pages, I would like to display a summary of each post just like the standard latest news page. When you click through you get to the full post. For each of menu items I have created seperate page templates such as archives_month.php, Then in the template instead of using For the LAST MONTH page. But I now cannot use this for LAST YEAR and OLDER posts. Can anyone help me? I've looked into a number of different ways to do it but on some blogs it's not clear and most people just retrieve a list of archives rather than displaying the posts. Thanks in advance. Mel

• UIPopover Sizing

  I have a UIPopoverController which I'm trying to show from a UIBarButtonItem in a navigation bar. Despite setting the resizing mask for the tableview inside the popover's content viewController, it takes up the whole height of the screen. The only thing which has any effect on the content size is menuPopover.contentViewController.view setFrame:CGRect. I'm using the code below to show the popover inside the left hand side of a UISplitViewController // menuPopover and editVc are properties on the parent viewController menuPopover = [[UIPopoverController alloc] initWithContentViewController:editVc]; [menuPopover presentPopoverFromBarButtonItem:btnMenu permittedArrowDirections:UIPopoverArrowDirectionAny animated:true]; [menuPopover setPopoverContentSize:CGSizeMake(400, 500) animated:true]; [menuPopover.contentViewController.view setFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,400, 500)]; Yet this is what I'm seeing. • JSF, How to set a property in a different page/backing bean and then navigate to that page?

  I am using JSF 2.0 and attempting to pass values between different pages in my App. The setup is as follows: I have a page called userSelect that has a backing bean userSelectBacking. On this page I display a list of users that can be selected and submit using an h:commandbutton, when the page is submit the navigation goes to a userEdit page. I have a page called userEdit, that has a backing bean userEditBacking which displays the information for a user and allows that user to be edited. I would like to pass the user selected from the userSelect page into the userEdit page. I am currently using f:setPropertyActionListener to set the user in my userEdit backing from the userSelect page, however when I navigate to the userEdit page, it loses the information I set. is there a way that I can pass the values between the two pages/backing beans? thanks

• Any good jQuery plugins to awesomify my pagination?

  I have a basic pagination system that looks something like that: First | < Previous | 1, 2, [3], 4, 5 ... 100, 101, 102 | Next > | Last Nothing fancy really. I am looking at various plugins to improve the way the user would browse this, but so far I haven't found anything really new or interesting except: http://tympanus.net/jPaginate/ : interesting way of browsing between pages but still very classical in the realization http://cpojer.net/Scripts/Pagination/ : totally new way of doing pagination, but the implementation isn't perfect and it's not really usable. Do you guys have ideas on how I could improve the way my users browse through navigation? Are there any good jQuery plugins out there already doing that?

• Table View Page Control Code

  Hi Everyone this is what i want to achieve 1) Have a page control that allows user to do a swipe to 6 different pages 2) each page is a table view controller 3) everything is done via code NOT IB The tutorials that are i find either use VIEW CONTROLLER or is done via IB. I am not very good with IB and prefer to have everything done via coding. I have a TableViewController.h and TableViewController.m When the user navigate to the TableViewController view, my application will display a table view (filled with some information), when the user swip to the next page, another page (table view) will appear with another set of information... I am very new to objective-c and iphone programing...can some one pls guide me on how to achieve the above or is there another way to doing things? oh yar....i have a tab bar controller as my root controller...and for one of the tab (tab A) i have a navigation controller and my TableViewControllers falls inside tab A. • Using Entity Framework, how do I specify a sort on a navagation property?

  I have two tables: [Category], [Item]. They are connected by a join table: [CategoryAndItem]. It has two primary key fields: [CategoryKey], [ItemKey]. Foreign keys exist appropriately and Entity has no problem pulling this in and creating the correct navigation properties that connect the entity objects. Basically each category can have multiple items, and items can be in multiple categories. The problem is that the order of items is specified per category, so that a particular item might be third in one category but fifth in another. In the past, I have added a [Sequence] field to the join table and modified the stored procedure to handle it. But since Entity is replacing my stored procedures, I need to figure out how to make Entity handle the sequence. Any suggestions?

• iPhone: how do I set up a clear window-size "blocker view"?

  I feel like this should be obvious to me, but for some reason I can't figure this out. I have a navigation interface with nav bar, tool bar, and primary view. Sometimes the user takes an action that causes a progress indicator to appear in the middle of the view. While the progress indicator (which is a custom UIView) in spinning in the middle, I want no touch input to be allowed to go to any of the underlying interface (main view, nav bar, toolbar, etc). But this doesn't seem trivial. I've tried (and failed) to create a simple view whose only job is to swallow touch input and use it as a window subview-- no dice, it never gets the touch events (and yes, it does have userInteractionEnabled). I've tried to bolt it on as a transparent modal view controller, but those don't seem to ever be transparent. Thoughts? What am I missing? Thanks!

  Inside of a phase listener class that runs during the "RESTORE_VIEW" phase, I have some code like this: public void afterPhase(PhaseEvent event) { FacesContext fc = event.getFacesContext(); NavigationHandler nh = fc.getApplication().getNavigationHandler(); nh.handleNavigation(fc, null, "/a/specific/path/to/a/resource.jspx"); } Navigation to the new URL doesn't work here. The request made will just receive a response from the original JSPX that was navigated to. Code like this works fine: public void afterPhase(PhaseEvent event) { FacesContext fc = event.getFacesContext(); NavigationHandler nh = fc.getApplication().getNavigationHandler(); nh.handleNavigation(fc, null, "OUTCOME_DEFINED_IN_FACES_CONFIG_XML"); } Also the first snippet will work with an IceFaces Faces provider, but not Sun JSF 1.2 which is what I need to use. Is there something I can do to fix the code so it is possible to forward to specific URLs?

• Animating Reloading of UITableView

  I am trying to animate table rows in a UITableView in an iPhone project as I swipe across the screen to reload the data. When I disable animations and only call reloadData, table continues responding to swipe gestures. When I add animations with the reloadSections:WithRowAnimation: method, table stops responding to swipes, and only the navigation bar at the top responds to swipes. Another change is that, table starts responding to selection and I have to manually disable it again. I suspect these two issues might be related. • What is the best PHP framework for building a website around a heavily relational PostgreSQL databas

  First of all, the framework of choice needs to have excellent support for PostgreSQL. I don't care about MySQL because it doesn't have half of the features the application I will be porting requires. (And when I say excellent support, I mean that their approach to database drivers has not been solely trained in MySQL). The ideal framework: Should take full advantage of PHP 5.3 and PostgreSQL 8.4 features Should support new technologies such as OpenID and social networking Should support complex relationships between database relations Should have an intelligent validation system Should have a basic library of helpful views (such as pagination, navigation, etc) Should probably be MVC based Should have excellent documentation and an active development community Should namespace classes intelligently What I'm looking for might be more of a library of utilities, as I really don't want to be restricted by the framework in what I can and can not do. • Prototype mouseleave for two elements

  I have created a small navigation element that is positioned right on top of another element. It is only shown when a user mousenters/mouseovers the main element. I am having some trouble with the prototype. I would like this small nav element to be hidden when a user mouses out of the main box, but I would also like the small nav element to remain visible if a user mouses out of the main box but mouses into the small nav at the same time. This is my attempt so far with some pseudo-code to hopefully explain: $('main_box').observe('mouseenter', function(){ $('small_div').show() }) $('main_box').observe('mouseleave', function(){ if this element is $('small_div') then Event.stop() $('small_div').observe('mouseleave', function(){ if this element is $('main_box') Event.stop observe $('main_box') mouseleave else $('small_div').hide(); }) else $('small_div').hide(); }) The main thing I'm having trouble with is figuring out what element the mouse is over at a given point in time. Is there a way to do something like: on mouseleave do blah unless the mouse is over a specific element then do not do blah?

• Strange centering problem in Firefox and IE8

  The navigation bar on my site http://hungryathome.net doesn't center properly on Firefox and IE8 Standards mode. It centers properly in IE7 Compatability mode and in Chrome. What's odd is that setting a Margin on the div (id="navlinks") to 4px or more will make it center properly. Any less will result in it being slightly off-center. I changed the values back and forth in Firebug and it's confusing the heck out of me. Any explanation for why that's happening?

• Increasing width of UISearchDisplayController PopOver Results

  I have an iPad app that has a UISearchBar in its navigation bar. When I enter text in the search bar the results are automatically displayed in a UIPopOverController. That's great except the popover's default size is not wide enough for my needs. Is there a way to set its width? Apple has done this themselves with Safari's search bar. The popover that displays search results is a good bit wider than the default and they have removed the "Results" title from the popover.

• UIWebView in multithread ViewController

The question is if I pop out(tap back on navigation bar) this controller before the second thread is done, the app will crash after [super dealloc], because "Tried to obtain the web lock from a thread other than the main thread or the web thread. For youtube, we find solution by adding extra parameter: <param name="wmode" value="opaque" /> which resolve this issue, but what can i do to fix other video sources? • Received memory warning and app crashes - iphone

  I am creating an app using ARC but my app is crashing due to Received memory warning. The App is working fine in simulator. But in case of iphone device, If i run the app for few minutes then on doing anything, the app crashes straightaway. I have checked my app by xcode instrument. My app folder size is 6 MB but all memory allocation is showing 63 MB on xcode instrument. Because of this reason, presentViewController-Animated-Completion is getting slow during navigation. Does anyone have any solution why this is happening?

• Slowness of Netbeans Platform Apps - how to mitigate?

  Hi, We are developing a commerical application (pretty complex) in java using Netbeans IDE. We have 2 options in netbeans to create it- 1. Develop Java desktop app 2. Netbeans Platform app We have requirement that application startup and response times should be very very fast, should be modular etc. We did Proof of Technology by creating apps using both approaches mentioned above. We found Netbeans platform apps are very slow during startup and during screen navigation compared to pure Swing based desktop apps. We tried to implement suggestions provided at http://wiki.netbeans.org/Category:Performance:FAQ and in other blogs and forums to improve on speed of the app but were not successful. We feel for creating a complex desktop app Netbeans platform app would be better suited, but its not meeting our performance requirements (startup and response times, memory footprints, CPU usage guidelines etc). Can any one guide us on how to mitigate our problem of improving performance of Netbeans Platforms apps? Thanks in advance for your help. -bhan

• How to find out what is causing a slow down of the application on this server?

  This is not the typical serverfault question, but I'm out of ideas and don't know where else to go. If there are better places to ask this, just point me there in the comments. Thanks. Situation We have this web application that uses Zend Framework, so runs in PHP on an Apache web server. We use MySQL for data storage and memcached for object caching. The application has a very unique usage and load pattern. It is a mobile web application where every full hour a cronjob looks through the database for users that have some information waiting or action to do and sends this information to a (external) notification server, that pushes these notifications to them. After the users get these notifications, the go to the app and use it, mostly for a very short time. An hour later, same thing happens. Problem In the last few weeks usage of the application really started to grow. In the last few days we encountered very high load and doubling of application response times during and after the sending of these notifications (so basically every hour). The server doesn't crash or stop responding to requests, it just gets slower and slower and often takes 20 minutes to recover - until the same thing starts again at the full hour. We have extensive monitoring in place (New Relic, collectd) but I can't figure out what's wrong; I can't find the bottlekneck. That's where you come in: Can you help me figure out what's wrong and maybe how to fix it? Additional information The server is a 16 core Intel Xeon (8 cores with hyperthreading, I think) and 12GB RAM running Ubuntu 10.04 (Linux 3.2.4-20120307 x86_64). Apache is 2.2.x and PHP is Version 5.3.2-1ubuntu4.11. If any configuration information would help analyze the problem, just comment and I will add it. • facebook iphone app architecture

  does anyone know or predict how facebook's iphone app architecture could look like? More specific to what could be built into the app (client) what could be rendered on demand? Do you think the main menu layout of the app (where all the navigation buttons are there) are on the client or being rendered dynamically? Similarly apps like NYTimes or US News, what portion is done on the client and what is rendered dynamically. What could be the best way to render things on-demand. Would it be ok to use to UIWebView and render most of the app in it? A quick overview would help. Thank you!
