• Maven release prepare without prompts?

  I want to automate the execution of Maven release:prepare with Perl so that the user doesn't have to answer the prompts for version names etc. Are there a -D arguments that can be supplied so that no prompting is done? I tried the obvious solution which is to feed the prompt answers to mvn via perl code like this: my $cmd = qq(mvn release:prepare -DautoVersionSubmodules=true-DpreparationGoals="clean install"); open MVN, "| $cmd"; print MVN "\n"; # default print MVN "$cur_version"; print MVN "\n"; print MVN "$next_version"; print MVN "\n"; close MVN; but mvn ignores such input and winds up using the defaults (and doesn't prompt either). So, are there -D args for the release:prepare plugin:goal? Thanks.

• Require help with program for edutainment game

  I am working on a factorisation problem and for small numbers it is working well. I've been able to calculate the factors (getting the answers from Wolfram Alpha) for small numbers, like the one on the Wikipedia page (5959). Along with the Wikipedia page I have been following this guide. Once again, as my Math knowledge is pretty poor I cannot follow what I need to do next. EDIT: It finally works! I'll post the working code up here once I've got it fully working so that others in my predicament can learn from it.

  I am trying to create a grid form for a survey question. value1 value2 value3 option 1 x option 2 x option 3 x Each cell in the grid is a radio button and the radio buttons in a row belong to one radio button group. My models: class Question # title has_many :answers end class Answer # name, position, atype(row/col) end I am struggling to come up with a Rails approach for creating such a form. To complicate the issue user can save the semi-completed form and complete it at a later time. What is the best approach for this problem?

• Open dot-file with dialogue in OSX

  Since the GUI-side of OSX treats all dot-files (such as .htaccess) as hidden, it doesn't display them in any of the graphical UI:s, e.g. Finder or the Open-dialogues. How can I open a dot-file (.htaccess in this case) in a graphical editor, without doing that thing for all hidden files, universally and without going through Terminal.app? Edit: I'm on Leopard, if that makes a difference. Edit2: TextWrangler and TextMate seem to have features that allow you to open hidden files, which partly answers my question.

• Is there a way to set up a Linux pipe to non-buffering or line-buffering?

  My program is controlling an external application on Linux, passing in input commands via a pipe to the external applications stdin, and reading output result via a pipe from the external applications stdout. The problem is that writes to pipes are buffered by block, and not by line, and therefore delays occur before my app receives data output by the external application. The external application cannot be altered to add explicit fflush() calls. When I set the external application to /bin/cat -n (it echoes back the input, with line numbers added), it works correctly, it seems, cat flushes after each line. The only way to force the external application to flush, is sending exit command to it; as it receives the command, it flushes, and all the answers appears on the stdout, just before exiting. I'm pretty sure, that Unix pipes are appropiate solution for that kind of interprocess communication (pseudo server-client), but maybe I'm wrong.   This is probably a really basic question, but I can't find any answers. I need to match a string by either one or more spaces OR an equals sign. When I split this string: 9 x 13 = (8.9 x 13.4) (89 x 134) with ( +) I get: part 0: 9 x 13 = (8.9 x 13.4) part 1: (89 x 134) When I split it with (=) I get: part 0: 9 x 13 part 1: (8.9 x 13.4) (89 x 134) How can split by BOTH? • What is the easiest way to deploy a MVC2 application from Visual Studio 2010 to IIS 7.5?

  I´ve tried a couple of different ways to deploy a application to a IIS 7.5 running on my machine for testing purposes and i´ve sort of hit a wall. Nothing works out of the box. Everything assumes I have knowledge I don't have and would prefer not to have to aqquire. Google isn't really helping either with answers ranging from "copy files by hand" to "install teamcity and set it up for CI". I have set up TeamCity for java projects before and it's really over kill for my needs at the moment. So anyone know of a fast, simple and easy way to deploy a application during testing/building?

  My Google-fu has failed me. In Python, are these: n = 5 # Test one. if n == 5: print 'Yay!' # Test two. if n is 5: print 'Yay!' two tests for equality equivalent (ha!)? Does this hold true for objects where you would be comparing instances (a list say)? Okay, so this kind of answers my question: l = list() l.append(1) if l == [1]: print 'Yay!' # Holds true, but... if l is [1]: print 'Yay!' # Doesn't. So == tests value where is tests to see if they are the same object?

• Access outer class from inner class: Why is it done this way?

  So most of us know how to access an outer class from an inner class. Searches with those words give oodles of answered questions on that topic. But what I want to know is why the syntax is the way it is. Example: public class A { private class B { public void c() {A.this.d();} } public void d() {System.out.println("You've called d()! Go, you!");} } Why is it A.this.d()? It looks like this is a static field of class A, but... * am confused * Forgive me if this is a repeat; like I said, searches with those words give how-answers.

• C++ Vector at/[] operator speed

  In order to give functions the option to modify the vector I can't do curr = myvec.at( i ); doThis( curr ); doThat( curr ); doStuffWith( curr ); But I have to do: doThis( myvec.at( i ) ); doThat( myvec.at( i ) ); doStuffWith( myvec.at( i ) ); (as the answers of my other question pointed out) I'm going to make a hell lot of calls to myvec.at() then. How fast is it, compared to the first example using a variable to store the result? Is there a different option for me? Can I somehow use pointers? When it's getting serious there will be thousands of calls to myvec.at() per second. So every little performance-eater is important.

Is it possible to open the command prompt (and I guess any other terminal for other systems), and execute commands in the newly opened window? Currently what I have is this: Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime(); rt.exec(new String[]{"cmd.exe","/c","start"}); I've tried adding the next command after the "start", I've tried running another rt.exec containing my command, but I can't find a way to make it work.   I'm trying to create a perma link for a nested attribute. For example, look at the links for the answers in SO. I would like to do something similar in rails: I have Project model with multiple tasks and I would like to create a perma link to a task. The task can only viewed with the project, just like Q & A on SO. Ideally, i would do something like: task_helper.rb: def GetTaskURL project = Project.find(:project_id) return project_url(project,:html) + "#" + id end However, i get a method not found. • Representing a very large array of bits in little memory

  Hello, I would like to represent a structure containing 250 M states(1 bit each) somehow into as less memory as possible (100 k maximum). The operations on it are set/get. I cold not say that it's dense or sparse, it may vary. The language I want to use is C. I looked at other threads here to find something suitable also. A probabilistic structure like Bloom filter for example would not fit because of the possible false answers. Any suggestions please?

• How is Magento using the module_name tag elements in the module config file

  I found here that Magento is using these tags as custom config variables, but I still cannot understand where are they used and how. For example the Wishlist module has wishlist (same name as the module) xml tag in the config.xml file in which it defines: <item> <product_attributes> <visibility/> <url_path/> <url_key/> </product_attributes> </item> Where is this module using these configurations? Also if I was to build payment method, I have to add in my custom module config.xml a tag for sales and then for quote and so on... I also found other related questions, but most of the answers were that these tags can be anything, but I need to know how they are used by the system. Thank you in advance

• Hiding result sets from multiple selects in a stored procedure

  I have a stored procedure that retrieves SQL queries as text and executes the statements using sp_executesql. Each of the dynamic queries is a count query in that it only returns the number of records found (select COUNT(id) from...). I am looping through a set of SQL queries stored as text and building a table variable out of the results. At the end, I am selecting all the results from the table variable as the result set that I want returned from the stored procedure. However, when I execute the stored procedure, I am naturally getting multiple result sets (one for each of the dynamic queries and one for the final select.) Is there any way I can suppress the results of a select statement executed through sp_executesql? I have found answers that reference storing the results in a temp table, but I don't have control of the query text that I am running so I can't change it to select into anything. Please help. One of the answers pointed towards System.Net.NetworkInformation namespace. Exploring the namespace I found a class Ping which could be used to pinging to our servers from code, and checking whether server is available or not. • Hashing a python function to regenerate output when the function is modified

  I have a python function that has a deterministic result. It takes a long time to run and generates a large output: def time_consuming_function(): # lots_of_computing_time to come up with the_result return the_result I modify time_consuming_function from time to time, but I would like to avoid having it run again while it's unchanged. [time_consuming_function only depends on functions that are immutable for the purposes considered here; i.e. it might have functions from Python libraries but not from other pieces of my code that I'd change.] The solution that suggests itself to me is to cache the output and also cache some "hash" of the function. If the hash changes, the function will have been modified, and we have to re-generate the output. Is this possible or ridiculous? Updated: based on the answers, it looks like what I want to do is to "memoize" time_consuming_function, except instead of (or in addition to) arguments passed into an invariant function, I want to account for a function that itself will change.

• Prevent auto scrolling when clicking tab anchor

  On my page I have some tabs that I've added some javascript so when they're clicked the page loads the tab's anchor URL instead of simply changing the view with AJAX, but I now want to stop the browser from auto scrolling to the anchor location. Having done some research, I'm pretty sure I just need to add a couple of lines so that when clicked it returns false or prevents default but, being a noob, I've no idea where to put them!?! • How to find the number of inversions in an array ?

  This is an phone interview question: "Find the number of inversions in an array". I guess they mean O(N*log N) solution since O(N^2) is trivial. I guess it cannot be better than O(N*log N) since sorting is O(N*log N) I have checked a similar question from SO and can summarize the answers as follows: Calculate half the distance the elements should be moved to sort the array : copy the array and sort the copy. For each element of the original array a[i] find it's position j in the sorted copy (binary search) and sum abs(i - j)/2. Modify merge sort : modify merge to count inversions between two sorted arrays (it takes O(N)) and run merge sort with the modified merge. Does it make sense ? Are there other (maybe simpler) solution ? Isn't it too hard for a phone interview ?

  Hi guys! I have this problem of my app crashing (only when press a certain UIButton) after i upgraded my xcode to the latest 3.2.5 and iPhone simulator 4.2. • QR Factorization Discrepancy

  I'm trying to get a feel for the Intel MKL library with a simple back-solve (A*x = b) using a QR factorization and comparing my MKL answer to the answer of a known working solution. When my answers didn't come up correct I printed a diff between the Q and R matrices of the known working and the MKL test code. I know MKL/lapack uses "elementary reflectors" to store the values of both the Q and R matrices. So, I'm wondering if these differences (mostly +/-) are by design or the result of some bug.
