  • QR Factorization Discrepancy

    - by KyleSum
I'm trying to get a feel for the Intel MKL library with a simple back-solve (A*x = b) using a QR factorization and comparing my MKL answer to the answer of a known working solution. When my answers didn't come up correct I printed a diff between the Q and R matrices of the known working and the MKL test code. I know MKL/lapack uses "elementary reflectors" to store the values of both the Q and R matrices. So, I'm wondering if these differences (mostly +/-) are by design or the result of some bug. I'm using DGEQRF, DORMQR, and DTRSM routines to solve the system and DORGQR (for debugging) to get the Q matrix shown in the diff. diff with 6x6 matrix (top known, bottom mkl): http://pastebin.com/4uwcME0J

  • How is Magento using the module_name tag elements in the module config file

    - by zokibtmkd
I found here that Magento is using these tags as custom config variables, but I still cannot understand where are they used and how. For example the Wishlist module has wishlist (same name as the module) xml tag in the config.xml file in which it defines: <item> <product_attributes> <visibility/> <url_path/> <url_key/> </product_attributes> </item> Where is this module using these configurations? Also if I was to build payment method, I have to add in my custom module config.xml a tag for sales and then for quote and so on... I also found other related questions, but most of the answers were that these tags can be anything, but I need to know how they are used by the system. Thank you in advance

  • Is it possible to set different select2 parameters at different times?

    - by ReiMasuro
From playing around I can see that this code $("#Selected3").select2({ minimumInputLength: 3 }); $("#Selected3").select2({ placeholder: "Show a placeholder" }); will show me the placeholder but remove the minimumInputLength parameters value. Does anyone know a way please that this example could be modified so that the placeholder will be added without losing the minimum..Length value. Any answers will need to allow for the possibility of the statements being in separate files, i.e. one on the page and another in a referenced .js file. I am aware that this would be much easier if I set all the parameters at once, e.g. $("#Selected3").select2({ minimumInputLength: 3, placeholder: "Show a placeholder" }); but I am working within a framework which won't currently allow that. EDIT: For anyone who is willing to give this a shot but doesn't know select2 the library comes from here Select2 on GitHub

  • How can I remove a duplicate object from a MongoDB array?

    - by andrewrk
My data looks like this: foo_list: [ { id: '98aa4987-d812-4aba-ac20-92d1079f87b2', name: 'Foo 1', slug: 'foo-1' }, { id: '98aa4987-d812-4aba-ac20-92d1079f87b2', name: 'Foo 1', slug: 'foo-1' } { id: '157569ec-abab-4bfb-b732-55e9c8f4a57d', name: 'Foo 3', slug: 'foo-3' } ] Where foo_list is a field in a model called Bar. Notice that the first and second objects in the array are complete duplicates. Aside from the obvious solution of switching to PostgresSQL, what MongoDB query can I run to remove duplicate entries from foo_list? Similar answers that do not quite cut it: http://stackoverflow.com/a/16907596/432 http://stackoverflow.com/a/18804460/432 These questions answer the question if the array had bare strings in it. However in my situation the array is filled with objects. I hope it is clear that I am not interested in a query; I want the duplicates to be gone from the database forever.

  • Which are the current/emerging desktop development technologies worth looking into?

    - by heeboir
Greetings, With all the existing development towards web development and emerging technologies in that area, I'm left wondering; what is a state of the art way to implement desktop applications in this day and age? If you were to start a new application of considerable size from scratch what technology would you invest your efforts in (focusing on cross platform portability, decent performance and interoperability with existing standards)? I've looked into the Adobe Air platform which appears quite impressive but seems rather limited to support a large application. Would something like Java/SWT still be the sensible choice? Do things like GWT fit the bill? Thanks P.S. I'm leaving my question a bit open-ended in an effort to gather diverse answers. Surely this a subjective matter and there is no right and wrong answer.

  • execute external command / application from java

    - by IttayD
I'm looking for a package to support reliably executing external processes from Java. My criteria: Abstract over OS. So if I want to run 'foo', it will look for 'foo.bat', 'foo.exe' under windows and 'foo' under other OSs (or, have a way of passing a map of os-command) Being able to execute Java classes by simply giving the class name and arguments (so the package locates the java command, copies jvm flags and then executes) Process stdout and stderr properly Watchdog / Monitoring capabilities I've looked at commons-exec but it looks like it answers only 3 & 4. Ant has support for execution but looks like an overkill to use it for this purpose only.

  • An elegant / simple way to check whether internet is available or not.

    - by Trainee4Life
    I did a quick search on how to check whether Internet is available or not. Most of them talked about making InterOp calls to wininet.dll. One of the answers pointed towards System.Net.NetworkInformation namespace. Exploring the namespace I found a class Ping which could be used to pinging to our servers from code, and checking whether server is available or not. What I want to ask is how this solution compares to other solutions? Ping soPing = new Ping(); var soPingReply = soPing.Send("www.stackoverflow.com"); if (soPingReply.Status != IPStatus.Success) { // SO not available }

  • What kind of work benifits from OpenCL

    - by Daniel
Hey All First of all: I am well aware that OpenCL does not magically make everything faster I am well aware that OpenCL has limitations So now to my question, i am used to do different scientific calculations using programming. Some of the things i work with is pretty intense in regards to the complexity and number of calculations. SO i was wondering, maybe i could speed things up bu using OpenCL. So, what i would love to hear from you all is answers to some of the following [bonus for links]: *What kind of calculations/algorithms/general problems is suitable for OpenCL *What is the general guidelines for determining if some particular code would benefit by migration to OpenCL? • Referral System PHP

    - by Liam
I have a membership based website and im planning on implementing a referral system. My website is credit based, the idea is that if User X refers User Y, then User X gets 100 bonus credits. Has anybody built a referral system before and if so what obstacles should I bear in mind? I've had a snoop round SO tonight but couldn't find any suitable answers. My theory is to give each user a random string which is generated and stored in the DB when they sign up, The user will then be presented with a URL incl. that string which when they pass to somebody (User Z), User Z is then sent to a page, the page then uses the GET method to gather the Random string and update the DB Row they currently occupy, does this sound feasible or could it easily be breached? Thanks

  • How do I find out which process is locking a file using .NET?

    - by AJ
I've seen several of answers about using Handle or Process Monitor, but I would like to be able to find out in my own code (C#) which process is locking a file. I have a nasty feeling that I'm going to have to spelunk around in the win32 API, but if anyone has already done this and can put me on the right track, I'd really appreciate the help. • what is the responsibility of ngnix or apache in rails application?

    - by user2177410
How rails applications actually work? Let's say we have nginx + passenger + Ubuntu, so my questions are: What is nginx actually doing? How does it transfer requests to the rails app? what is passenger responsible for? And what is rack? How actually rails app can work just on webrick without apache? Please dont give me answers like "nginx processes the requests"; I need something more, or may be you know the source where I can read about this.

  • Check boxes for a has_many and belongs_to association.

    - by Thomas
I have a has_many and belongs_to association. class Link < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :categories belongs_to :property end class Property < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :links end In the index and show I have <%= link.property.name %> and it will show the Property that I assigned to the link with the console just fine. I have a problem with figuring out how to show check boxes in the _form that assign a property to the link (a drop down would work as well). It seems everyone who has had this question before has ether a has_many :through or a HABTM relationship and I can't seem to adapt their answers.

  • How do I determine darker or lighter color variant of a given color?

    - by Nidonocu
Given a source color of any hue by the system or user, I'd like a simple algorithm I can use to work out a lighter or darker variants of the selected color. Similar to effects used on Windows Live Messenger for styling the user interface. Language is C# with .net 3.5. Responding to comment: Color format is (Alpha)RGB. With values as bytes or floats. Marking answer: For the context of my use (a few simple UI effects), the answer I'm marking as accepted is actually the most simple for this context. However, I've given up votes to the more complex and accurate answers too. Anyone doing more advanced color operations and finding this thread in future should definitely check those out. Thanks SO. :)

  • Construction an logical expression which will count bits in a byte.

    - by danatel
When interviewing new candidates, we usually ask them to write a piece of C code to count the number of bits with value 1 in a given byte variable (e.g. the byte 3 has two 1-bits). I know all the common answers, such as right shifting eight times, or indexing constant table of 256 precomputed results. But, is there a smarter way without using the precomputed table? What is the shortest combination of byte operations (AND, OR, XOR, +, -, binary negation, left and right shift) which computes the number of bites?

  • How can I count existing and non-existing values with MySQL?

    - by jaya malladi
I am new to MySQL. I have a table with answer ids. Answers can look like this:a1, a2, a3 ..., but due to some problems some are NULL, some are blank, and some are others like 1 a etc. Now I want to calculate the count of ids with a1 a2 a3 distinctly. But how is it possible to do this leaving others like NULL, blanks and garbage. The output should look like this atype count a1 45 a2 0 a3 56 If there is no row entry for a particular answer, the count should be 0.

  • C++ Vector at/[] operator speed

    - by sub
In order to give functions the option to modify the vector I can't do curr = myvec.at( i ); doThis( curr ); doThat( curr ); doStuffWith( curr ); But I have to do: doThis( myvec.at( i ) ); doThat( myvec.at( i ) ); doStuffWith( myvec.at( i ) ); (as the answers of my other question pointed out) I'm going to make a hell lot of calls to myvec.at() then. How fast is it, compared to the first example using a variable to store the result? Is there a different option for me? Can I somehow use pointers? When it's getting serious there will be thousands of calls to myvec.at() per second. So every little performance-eater is important.

  • IE 8 and text fading

    - by DMIL
I have a problem with fading text in IE 8, 7 and 6 (obviously). The text has a black outline during the animation that completely ruins the effect. Is there a workaround? I've read a bunch of answers about this problem and none made sense. Please take a look at this simple jsFiddle http://jsfiddle.net/LhSK7/ in IE 8, and show me how to fix it if possible. Edit: screenshot of the problem: http://i43.tinypic.com/1z6h1th.png I thought it might be because of the VirtualBox, but all other browsers display it correctly in VirtualBox. Edit #2: the problem can sort of be solved by setting the background color of the element being faded, which while still pretty ugly in IE 8 and below, at least gets rid of the black outline.

  • How Proxy server works with tcp/http connections?

    - by Vivek
Since I am a beginner in the world of internet/networking, I always mess up with these kinds of doubts in my head while programming ;) .. My doubts are, While working behind a proxy, how my requests and responses work? Means my request headers and data will first reach to Proxy server- then proxy server sends it(same headers and data) to corresponding server. And server responses to it with a response header and body to the proxy server-then proxy server sends it to my computer. Wright? While using websockets we are upgrading our http connection to tcp. At this time what is happening @ Proxy server? Does the proxyserver also upgrades its connection to plain TCP? After opening such TCP connections, does the proxy server able to track/log those socket messsages? And most importantly, Is the proxy server transparent or acting like an original server infront of a client? Thanks for any answers or helpful links in advance.

  • How to transition from PHP to Python Django?

    - by ggfan
Here's my background: Decent experience with PHP/MySql. Beginner's experience with OOP Why I want to learn Python Django? I gave in, based on many searches on SO and reading over some of the answers, Python is a great, clean, and structured language to learn. And with the framework Django, it's easier to write codes that are shorter than with PHP Questions Can i do everything in Django as in PHP? Is Django a "big" hit in web development as PHP? I know Python is a great general-purpose language but I'm focused on web development and would like to know how Django ranks in terms of web development.

  • How to ensure project management questions get answered

    - by Chuck Vose
Background: On a new project I've found myself 3 levels removed from my actual source of information. I report to my PM, who reports to our contractor, who reports to the actual client. Getting answers to questions has become something of a problem and I'm curious to know what people recommend. Needs: I'm trying to find a technology or disciplined strategy that will assist me in ensuring that the questions I'm asking are getting answered: Correctly without much modification of the original question Quickly so the original context isn't lost Completely so that if a question is deferred I don't forget about it. Does anyone know of a software suite that assists in this matter or do you have any personal discipline strategies that worked for you? Thank you for the guidance

  • Preparing for the next C++ standard

    - by Neil Butterworth
The spate of questions regarding BOOST_FOREACH prompts me to ask users of the Boost library what (if anything) they are doing to prepare their code for portability to the proposed new C++ standard (aka C++0x). For example, do you write code like this if you use shared_ptr: #ifdef CPPOX #include <memory> #else #include "boost/shared_ptr.hpp" #endif There is also the namespace issue - in the future, shared_ptr will be part of the std, namespace - how do you deal with that? I'm interested in these questions because I've decided to bite the bullet and start learning boost seriously, and I'd like to use best practices in my code. Not exactly a flood of answers - does this mean it's a non-issue? Anyway, thanks to those that replied; I'm accepting jalfs answer because I like being advised to do nothing!

  • Find mininum unused value in mysql table

    - by splattru
I have a MySQL table like this: +--------+-------+ + Server + Port + +--------+-------+ + 1 + 27001 + +--------+-------+ + 2 + 27002 + +--------+-------+ + 4 + 27004 + +--------+-------+ How you can see - here was 27003 port - but it was deleted some time ago (just for example). Is there some way to know the minimum value that is not used (higher than 27000 for example) in mysql table? Or there is no way and I need to make an separate table with all ports and column with "used" or "not used" ? Situation explanation: I am creating game hosting website, and I can use auto-increment for ports, but I will have a lot of deleted/unused ports after some time, and I want to use all of them before increasing port range. Thanks for your answers!
