  • Port numbers appended to anchor tags

    I've built a static site. Locally, when I serve the content with python -m SimpleHTTPServer everything behaves normally, but when I copy the HTML onto the server and browse the site at the server's URL, some links will have a port number appended to the domain. For example: url.com:84/path where the correct path is url.com/path. The port number is usually different, always between 81-85. It is an Apache server. I'm not experienced with web server configuration, and I'm not the admin of the server.     I am a web developer and I want to create clones of the sites I've developed for clients, so that I have an "original copy" on a subdomain of my own website, so that I can showcase my work to new clients. What is the best way to not get my clients original websites penalised for duplicate content? I am planning to have a robots.txt file that disallows all robots, as well as using <link href="http://www.client-canonical-site.com/" rel="canonical" /> in the <head> of the pages. Is that sufficient? Should I use rel=nofollow on all the links as well?

  • introducing automated testing without steep learning curve

    We're a group of 4 developers on a ajax/mysql/php web application. 2 of us end up focusing most of our efforts on testing the application, as it is time-consuming, instead of actually coding. When I say testing, I mean opening screens and testing links, making sure nothing is broken and the data is correct. I understand there are test frameworks out there which can automate this kind of testing for you, but I am not familiar with any of them (neither is anyone on the team), or the fancy jargon (is it test-driven? behavior-driven? acceptance testing?) So, we're looking to slowly incorporate automated testing. We're all programmers, so it doesn't have to be super-simple. But we don't want something that will take a week to learn... And it has to match our php/ajax platform... What do you recommend?

  • Open source management game in java

    I am trying to find an open source sport management game, much like the link below, but am failing to do so. There are two links provided in the below question that are both fine,'except for one minor problem - I only know java! Is there an open source sports manager project? After some googling, I have been unsuccessful in finding a sports management game that is written in java. I am do not particullarly care about the type of sport, becuase I am mostly interested in mechanics. Does anyone know of any such projects or am I out of luck on java?

  • Multiple TOC with MediaWiki using section headings in single page

    I'm running my own installation of MediaWiki, which has been great! I haven't been able to find the answer to this small problem in any post, how to, etc. Here's the setup: Article TOC (limited to showing only H1 and H2) ==H1== ===H2=== ====H3==== ====H3==== I don't want the H3 to show up on the main table of contents, because it would make the list very long. Instead, under the H2, I would like to display another TOC with all the H3's under that listing. From my understanding, you cannot have multiple table of contents on a single page. I've thought about making a template for each H2 that has the H3 links, but that seems like it duplicates a lot of work and creates loads of pages. I'd love a template that sucks all subsection names and spits them out, but I don't see how to do that. Alternatively, is there a way to enable multiple TOCs in a custom install of MediaWiki that I'm missing? Even that would get closer to what I'm trying to do.

  • Duplicate domain names - .net and .com Create separate pages, or redirect?

    In a SEO point of view: This website has a good amount of traffic for a local business, but also ships some merchandise. While the .net domain (registered first) is associated with the local busines (google places, maps, etc...) the .com domain only redirects to the .net domain. Is it good, bad or okay to create a different page for the domain .com for example, that would be pretty simple, but would link to the 10 different categories of products that this company sells? I know links are good, so there's that, but what else is good, or bad? Thanks in advance!

  • Unity launcher full - Need more icons

    I have already reduced the Unity launcher icons to 32 but still the space is exhausted already with my most-used programs. Basically I have to scroll often in the unity launcher bar with is annoying. So far (Ubuntu 10.04) I had those icons as mini ones in the top panel (smaller icons and wider space) where they could fit all. I was thinking already of sub-launchers or something the like but could not find something like the drawer was in Gnome 2. I am using Ubuntu at home and in the office. I am a consultant and need a lot of stuff on a regular basis. To put links at the desktop does not make sense because of the many windows that I usually have open there is hardly ever a piece of the desktop looking through. How do you - power users get keep most-used programs at reach (and I mean <= 2 clicks away)?

The same question for algorithms http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_algorithm_general_topics ?... What's after learning algorithms and data structures? Specializing in a certain field of algorithms such as computer graohics, memory management...etc? or what could be the plan for mastering programming after knowing the language syntax and the background about program design and programming logic? I asked about wikipedia because i would like to find a complete resource or are least a resource which would be enough for the field of data structures instead of searching for separate articles in different places in other words an alternative to books which may even be more complete.

  • Doing affiliate program with shops who don't have a program already set up

    I am developing an online shop which has managed to agree with other shops to a comission per sale. Now, the problem, is these other shops don't have any kind of affiliate system. So my question is, is there any way we could arrange an easy way for this? They don't plan to develop anything as they are small shops, so... my only guess right now is to control on my site how many times the links to them have been clicked to have an estimate of potential clients, but don't know how they can know that user came through my site and purchased something.     I want to understand the relation between LL/LR grammars and the left-recursion problem (for any question I know parcially the answer, but I ask them as I don't know nothing, because I am a little confused now, and prefer complete answers) I'm happy with sintetized or short and direct answers (or just links solving it unambiguously): What type of language isn't LL(8) languages? LL(K) and LL(8) have problems with left-recursion? Or only LL(k) parsers? LALR(1) parser have troubles with left or right recursion? What type of troubles? Only in terms of the LL/LALR comparision. What is better, Bison (LALR(1)) or Boost.Spirit (LL(8))? (Let's suppose other features of them are irrelevant in this question) Why GCC use a (hand-made) LL(8) parser? Only for the "handling-error" problem?

But I'd like to know what's coming out this year.   • Can you change a license once you pick one?

    I am working on a product that I don't feel is completely ready but I have a set of users that are very interested in using it now as "alpha" testers. I would like to give them the product now for free as "alpha" testers, but I would like to later license the software. Is this possible? Can anyone point me to any links/books/articles/etc? Thanks. EDIT: Due to the lack of my clarity and the reponses to the question I thought I should add this statement. I haven't decided if I am going to close-source or open-source this project yet. The user base that wants to get their hands on it now has kind of surprised me and I was concerned about what my options are as far as being able to give it to them now as open-source and later change to closed-source, or even vice versa. Thanks to everyone who has answered and commented. I appreciate it the insights.
