• NLB NIC w/ Static IP permanently "Acquiring Network Address" after adding more IP's to the cluster

  We have a 2 node NLB cluster. I recently added more IP's to the cluster range, after which point, the NLB NIC's on both of my nodes ended up in a permanent "acquiring network address" state. The cluster appears to be functioning despite this hang in acquiring an address. We've also rebooted the machines, and these NIC's remain in this state "acquiring network address" even after reboot, which I find troubling. Questions: Does anyone know where I can find documentation on how NLB binds to a NIC? (are there dll's involved, drivers, etc.) Does anyone know of any programs that have known incompatability issues with NLB? We have an application server installed on these NLB nodes (AOL Server) that interacts with the NIC's as well, and I suspect that it might be causing this issue. Before I go directly to Microsoft, I want to gather as much information as possible about the issue. Any help / guidance would be much appreciated...

• Turn off Snap and Glue in MS Visio 2007 permanently

  Every time I create new drawing document in Microsoft Visio 2007, drawing options "Snap" and "Glue" are turned on by default. I find both of them particularly annoying, so every time I create a new drawing I open "main menu - Tools - Snap & Glue" and turn these options off for that particular document. Is there an option or setting to turn "Snap" and "Glue" off permanently for all new Microsoft Visio 2007 drawing documents? Update: Maybe there's some way to bithack executable file (EXE or DLL) in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12?

• IE11 throws error in IEFRAME

  When I try to see "properties" of JSFiddle's logo, IE11 shows script error in file res://ieframe.dll/anchbrws.js Looking at the file, I see function BodyLoad() { var arrAll = document.all; for (i=0; i < arrAll.length; i++) { var elm = arrAll[i]; if (elm.id.substring(0,1) == "_") { if (elm.innerText== "undefined" || elm.innerText == "") { elm.innerText = L_NotAvailable_Text; } } } } from what I see, trying to read document.all is a stupid idea to do in IE11, which puts me to concern - is this a bug in IE's internal script or I have old version of some file(s) or my PC was compromised ? p.s: this error does not happen on other pages, nor on other elements of JSFiddle site.

• How do I get Visual Studio build process to pass condition to library(external) project

  I have tried several solutions for this problem. Enough to know I do not know enough about MSBuild to do this elegantly but I feel like there should be a method. I have a set of libraries for working with .net projects. A few of the projects utilize System.Web.Mvc - which recently released Version 2 - and we are looking forward to the upgrade. Currently sites which reference this library reference it directly by the project(csproj) on the developer's computer - not a built version of the library so that changes and source code case easily be viewed when dealing code from this library. This works quite well and would prefer to not have to switch to binary references (but will if this is the only solution). The problem I have is that because of some of the functionality that was added onto the MVC1 based library (view engines, model binders etc) several of the sites reliant on these libraries need to stay on MVC1 until we have full evaluated and tested them on MVC2. I would prefer to not have to fork or have two copies on each dev machine. • How can I set audit controls on files owned by TrustedInstaller using Powershell?

  I am trying to set audit controls on a number of files (listed in ACLsWin.txt) located in \%Windows%\System32 (for example, aaclient.dll) using the following Powershell script: $FileList = Get-Content ".\ACLsWin.txt" $ACL = New-Object System.Security.AccessControl.FileSecurity $AccessRule = New-Object System.Security.AccessControl.FileSystemAuditRule("Everyone", "Delete", "Failure") $ACL.AddAuditRule($AccessRule) foreach($File in $FileList) { Write-Host "Changing audit on $File" $ACL | Set-Acl $File } Whenever I run the script, I get the error PermissionDenied [Set-Acl] UnauthorizedAccessException. This seems to come from the fact that the owner of these files is TrustedInstaller. I am running these scripts as Administrator (even though I'm on the the built-in Administrator account) and it's still failing. I can set these audit controls by hand using the Security tab, but there are at least 200 files for which doing by hand may lead to human errors. How can I get around TrustedInstaller and set these audit controls using Powershell?

And i get this error (Zend Framework GData): Unable to find the socket transport "ssl" - enter code here did you forget to enable it when you configured PHP? So what i did. I went to php.ini and i uncomented the line extension=php_openssl.dll I also installed Win32 OpenSSL. But nothing works. What sould i do?

• The procedure entry php_mb_check_encoding_list could not be located

  I get this error. The procedure entry php_mb_check_encoding_list could not be located in the dynamic link library php_mbstring.dll The error is related to the php.ini settings, I think.. It finds it difficult to locate the extension I suspect, I put an environment path to the php.exe and its extensions folder, but when I run the command line and call php.exe, that error is being thrown. I use windows. I have got this set in my php.ini. ; On windows: extension_dir = "C:\xampp\php\ext" I installed xampp.. the php version is the latest.. Another thing which is weird is when I try to print out: phpinfo..nothing is being printed out <?php echo phpinfo(); ?> nothing comes out?!?! The question is why and how can I prevent it from being thrown..

• What would cause ANY .NET application to crash immediately... except a project I create and Debug in

  My software recently got deployed to a customer who said that the application was crashing immediately after it started. After some initial debugging, the customer provided me remote access to one of the computers which was unable to run the application. I found that the crash wasn't specific to my application. Any application which depended on the .NET framework crashed immediately. Conveniently, Visual Studio 2008 was installed so I created a quick hello world application on it and clicked Debug. The application worked fine. But, then when I tried to execute the generated binaries in the /bin/Debug/HelloWorld.exe directory outside of visual studio it crashed. List of things i've tried (UPDATED): I checked that "Everyone" has Read&Execute permissions for c:\Windows. To test that the problem was with the .NET Framework (and not my application), I attempted to download Paint .NET on to the computers. The setup frontend crashed in the same manner. Performed a repair of the .NET framework as outlined in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908077 (Boy was this fun and time consuming). No luck. Installed .NET 3.5 SP1 (before it just had .NET 3.5) Note: my application targets 2.0 so I did this more as a long shot... but i learned in the process that .NET 3.5 SP1 also updates the underlying frameworks. Ran Aaron Stebner's .NET Setup Verification Tool. This tool indicated that .NET was successfully installed. (I forget if i checked all the versions but at least 2.0 worked). Tested some mini hello world applications which were targeted for .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.5 and both crashed in the same way. Tried launching .NET apps via windbg cmd line. Doing this did allow me invoke my simple hello world applications. So, simple .NET hello world works when invoked by windbg or by launching via debug in visual studio... but doesn't if i try to execute it standalone. I created a dump file using WinDbg. It wasn't all that revealing to me. • Cannot install .NET Framework 4.0 on Windows XP SP3

  I'm using Windows XP SP3 logged in as the administrator. I had RAID Mirroring running. The motherboard broke earlier in the year. When I got a new battery I did not resync. I just use the disks as two separate disks. I searched Google for the errors but I didn't find anything detailed enough. • Using ASP.NET MVC 2 with Ninject 2 from scratch

  I just did File - New Project last night on a new project. Ah, the smell of green fields. I am using the just released ASP.NET MVC 2 (i.e. no preview or release candidate, the real thing), and thought I'd get off to a good start using Ninject 2 (also released version) with the MVC extensions. I downloaded the MVC extensions project, opened it in VS2008Sp1, built it in release mode, and then went into the mvc2\build\release folder and copied Ninject.dll and Ninject.Web.Mvc.dll from there to the Libraries folder on my project (so that I can lug them around in source control and always have the right version everywhere). I didn't include the corresponding .xml files - should I? Do they just provide intellisense, or some other function? Not a big deal I believe. Anyhoo, I followed the most up-to-date advice I could find; I referenced the DLLs in my MVC2 project, then went to work on Global.asax.cs. First I made it inherit from NinjectHttpApplication. I removed the Application_Start() method, and overrode OnApplicationStarted() instead. Here is that method: protected override void OnApplicationStarted() { base.OnApplicationStarted(); AreaRegistration.RegisterAllAreas(); RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes); // RegisterAllControllersIn(Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly()); } And I also followed the advice of VS and implemented the CreateKernel method: protected override Ninject.IKernel CreateKernel() { // RegisterAllControllersIn(Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly()); return new StandardKernel(); } That is all. No other modifications to the project. You'll notice that the RegisterAllControllersIn() method is commented out in two places above. I've figured I can run it in three different combinations, all with their funky side effects; Running it like above. I am then presented with the standard "Welcome to ASP.NET MVC" page in all its' glory. However, after this page is displayed correctly in the browser, VS shows me an exception that was thrown. It throws in NinjectControllerFactory.GetControllerInstance(), which was called with a NULL value in the controllerType parameter. Notice that this happens after the /Home page is rendered - I have no idea why it is called again, and by using breakpoints I've already determined that GetControllerInstance() has been successfully called for the HomeController. Why this new call with controllerType as null? I really have no idea. Pressing F5 at this time takes me back to the browser, no complaints there. Uncommenting the RegisterAllControllersIn() method in CreateKernel() This is where stuff is really starting to get funky. Now I get a 404 error. Some times I have also gotten an ArgumentNullException on the RegisterAllControllersIn() line, but that is pretty rare, and I have not been able to reproduce it. Uncommenting the RegisterAllControllers() method in OnApplicationStarted() (And putting the comment back on the one in CreateKernel()) Results in behavior that seems exactly like that in point 1. So to keep from going on forever - is there an exact step-by-step guide on how to set up an MVC 2 project with Ninject 2 (both non-beta release versions) to get the controllers provided by Ninject? Of course I will then start providing some actual stuff for injection (like ISession objects and repositories, loggers etc), but I thought I'd get this working first. • How to troubleshoot a GPF?

  I get a GPF dialog box out of the blue fairly often (like about 2 hours after I turn on the computer). It basically says that svchost.exe had a failure... (see the corresponding Event Log entry below). Event Type: Error Event Source: Application Error Event Category: (100) Event ID: 1000 Date: 5/18/2010 Time: 7:41:16 PM User: N/A Computer: DKHA-IPSA Description: Faulting application svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.5512, faulting module ole32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5512, fault address 0x0004eaa9. Shortly after this error pops up, the computer pretty much grinds to a halt (e.g. some UI elements on the desktop simply do not respond). And I have to do a hard reboot. How do I troubleshoot this type of thing? P.S. The PC has all the latest patches and nothing is missing in the Device Manager.

I am using ProcessExplorer from Sysinternals, and it says, that the offending call is ntdll.dll!RtlValidateHeap+0x170 however, the call stack towards the entry is always different, so it's hard for me to track the problem. Maybe it's a mal-programed trojan, causing exceptions in Explorer.exe, but that is only a wild speculation. Explorer.exe is then consuming 25% (a core on a dual core). Killing the process makes the task bar go away, respawning from task manager, and half a minute later it's again eating all CPU cycles.

• PHP throwing XDebug errors ONLY in command line mode...

  Hey, all! I've been having a few problems running PHP-based utilities within the command line ever since I enabled the XDebug. It runs just fine when executing script through a browser, but once I try an execute a script on the command line, it throws the following errors: h:\www\test>@php test.php PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'E:\development\xampplite\php\ext\php_curl.dll' - The specified module could not be found in Unknown on line 0 PHP Warning: Xdebug MUST be loaded as a Zend extension in Unknown on line 0 h:\www\test> The script runs just fine after this, but it's something I can't seem to wrap my head around. Could it be a path issue within my php.ini config? I'm not sure if that's the case considering it throws the same error no matter where I access the @php environmental variable. Also, all paths within my php.ini are absolute. Not really sure what's going on here. Any ideas? Thanks!

• Windows 7: app crashing/hanging on "save as" dialog

  now this is really annoying - I'm having a global problem in Windows 7: when using the system's "save as"-file dialog, the main app will just hang. the mouse-cursor is showing progress, the whole app is hanging and I need to terminate it manually. it's happening with every app! (notepad, word, graphics app). I'm assuming it's something with the system enumerating the harddisk-drivenames or something. any idea how to fix this? by the way - when viewing the problem details - it's telling the module - it's msonsext.dll, looks like some office thing to me.

• Is Cygwin the best unix environment for Windows?

  Which unix like environment do you prefer on Windows? I have found Cygwin to be very comfortable for a windows platform (usually XP). I am wondering if there is a better alternative (not because I want to move away from Cygwin). What are the features of Cygwin that you like OR, What are features you find in alternatives that you miss in Cygwin? I am often miss binary compatibility of applications built on Cygwin. These cannot be run directly on another Windows platform. But, usually fetching a copy of cygwin1.dll suffices. A collection of other tools many of which work directly on the Windows subsystem rather than emulating unix, like Cygwin does.   I am creating a plugin system and I am creating one AppDomain per plugin. Each plugin has its own directory with its main assemblies and references. The main assemblies will be loaded by my plugin loader, in addition to my interface assemblies (so the plugin can interact with the application). Creating the AppDomain: this.appDomain = AppDomain.CreateDomain("AppDomain", null, new AppDomainSetup { ApplicationBase = pluginPath, PrivateBinPath = pluginPath, }); Loading the assemblies: this.appDomain.Load(myInterfaceAssembly.GetName(true)); var assemblies = new List<Assembly>(); foreach (var assemblyName in this.assemblyNames) { assemblies.Add(this.appDomain.Load(assemblyName)); } The format of assemblyName is the assembly's filename without ".dll". The problem is that AppDomain.Load(assemblyName) throws an exception: Could not load file or assembly '[[assemblyName]], Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. All of the dependencies of [[assemblyName]] are: Inside the directory pluginPath, The myInterfaceAssembly which is already loaded, or In the GAC (e.g. mscorelib). Clearly I'm not doing something right. I have tried: Creating an object using this.appDomain.CreateInstanceAndUnwrap inheriting from MarshalByRefObject with a LoadAssembly method to load the assembly. I get an exception saying that the current assembly (containing the proxy class) could not be loaded (file not found, as above), even if I manually call this.appDomain.Load(Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetName(true)). Attaching an AssemblyResolve handler to this.appDomain. I'm met with the same exception as in (1), and manually loading doesn't help. Recursively loading assemblies by loading their dependencies into this.appDomain first. • Sql 2008 r2 DEV install failed

  I am trying to install Sql 2008 r2 DEVeloper on Windows 2008 STD. It previously had Sql 2008 Enterprise installed. I first uninstalled SQL 2008. I think uninstall still leaves some crap in registery, and in Program files. Installation fails in the last step of the process - installation, about couple of minutes into it. Can't insert picture for you because serverfault does not allow me to do so. But it basically it: Error message: "Installation failed" I re-installed SQL 2008 Enterprise on this box and we are not going to go to R2 on older servers that previously had SQL 2005 or SQL 2008 on it. Looking at Windows log: Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2008R2\x64\Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.SqlServer_ConfigExtension.dll". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.CRT,processorArchitecture="amd64",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.4027" could not be found. • How to lookup an IP address in an Excel spreadsheet?

  I am working with a decent sized spreadsheet of domains and server names. Another user of the spreadsheet needs the IP address for each of the DNS entries on the worksheet. Instead of manually adding and then having to maintain this list I was hoping there was an easy way to do an IPAddress lookup to display the IP address in a cell. I've seen some VBScripts that call gethostbyname, e.g.: Declare Function GetHostByName Lib "wsock32.dll" Alias "gethostbyname" (ByVal Host As String) As Long But I'm not a VB expert so I'm not sure if this is the right way to go. Any advice/links would be appreciated! also if this is a question better suited for Stack Overflow - let me know, I'm new here.

• IE8 Crash On Startup

  Hello All, I have a problem - IE8 has suddenly stopped working. I was doing some development work, and suddenly IE8 crashed every time I tried to use it. I've rebooted, but still crash every time I try to open it. There is no real indication as to what has gone wrong. It just says "Internet Explorer has stopped working". I've tried almost everything that I've seen when I've Googled it: I disabled all Add-Ins via Manage Add-Ins, but it still crashes on startup* I re-registered IEPROXY.DLL * The thing I don't understand is that if I start from the Run box with the -extoff option, IE starts up. Isn't that the same as disabling all Add-Ins? Any ideas? Thanks, wTs

• Windows not showing version (or other resources) for files in tooltip

  Whenever I hover the mouse cursor over executable file types (.exe, .dll, etc.) in Windows Explorer, it only shows the Type, Size, and (Modified) Date of the file in the tooltip instead of the Company, Version, Description, etc. This used to work in Windows XP, but Windows 7 is showing me less information which is frustrating because I often need that information to be quickly and easily available (no, opening the Properties dialog or adding columns is not a solution). How can I get Explorer to show me all the relevant information for the files in the tooltip? (Bonus points for also showing it in the Preview pane at the bottom.)

• IE "About:Tab" page hijacked

  Hey folks, Client o' mine, running Windows 7 64-bit, installed Kiwee Toolbar and then uninstalled it. The software is pretty much gone except for one last thing: The About:Tab IE page redirects to a Kiwee search page. I have temporarily disabled the "New Tab" page via Internet Explorer's options, but it annoys me. I have scanned with multiple tools. Spyware Doctor purports to removed it, but they want money to remove it. I would buy it -if- I could be certain it would fix the problem. I've also searched the registry and the filesystem for instances of the program, plus I've removed Kiwee manually via the many manual uninstalls out there. IE's AboutURLs registry entry still points to res://ieframe.dll/tabswelcome.htm and if I enter that URL into IE, the correct New Tab page comes up. Any help appreciated.

• Is there a diff utility that allows you to exclude columns?

  For example, I have a text file, each line is a long string. I want to exclude 2 "segments" of this string, say columns 1-7 and 20-22. So the bottom 2 lines below would be a match: 123456789012345678901234567890 ------------------------------ xxxxxxxAAAAAAAAAAAAxxxBBBBBBBB yyyyyyyAAAAAAAAAAAAyyyBBBBBBBB I know WinMerge has a "IgnoreColumns" plugin but I have never go this working. In this example I would rename it IgnoreColumns_1-7, 20-22.dll, select it in the plugins menu, and choose "Pre-Differ." but it has never worked. I am going to be comparing huge files that I don't want to modify. I'm not opposed to stream editing them in the comparison with sed or something like that, but I would prefer not to modify the actual files. I have not chose to feed sed to diff yet just because I was hoping for for a more visual view of the data.

  What does mean the plus sign before */dyn in the :version command's output, e.g.: +python/dyn +python3/dyn +ruby/dyn +tcl/dyn I didn't find any useful documentation on it. When I run :echo has('python3') Vim returns 0. When I run :python3 print('hi') it says E370: Could not load library python31.dll meaning I should install python (as I understand). So I just can't see the difference between -*/dyn and +*/dyn. What does plus sign give to us? Also what's the difference from dyn-less feature, e.g. +python?

  I'm trying to create an add-on to Skype with C#. I don't want to use Skype4COM, as I'd like the experience with messages and such. Unfortunately, the messages are tripping me up. I've got the pumps and such set up. They all work, and my app successfully sends the "APIDiscover" message to Skype, gets a "PendingAuth" response and then the "AttachSuccess" message. However, when I try to send "ping" to Skype (to which it should reply "pong") nothing happens. The return code from SendMessage is 0 but Marshall.GetLastWin32Error is 1400 (Invalid handle). • getting PHP PDO flavors to work on Mac OS X

  I'm running OS X 10.5; it looks like it came with Apache and PHP installed (minus some minor configurations which I turned on per this page; I've used Apache before so I know the basics of how httpd.conf works). I've got a pre-existing script which uses PDO. I've got a MySQL database and can easily configure my script to access the database via PDO MySQL or PDO ODBC. The problem is, that even though I enabled the PDO MySQL and PDO ODBC extensions in php.ini, phpinfo() reports the only PDO drivers are sqlite2 and sqlite. I'm guessing the relevant extension .dll or .so files are not present? How do I get them? note: I'm using the built-in install for PHP. (see apple's page on enabling php, which doesn't say anything about configure or adding additional .so files)
