• How do I setup unison to sync a folder one way

  I have a 1tb NAS that has a 1tb usb external hard attached I have prepared the file system on the usb disk and mounted it I want to 100% sync my data from my nas to the usb disk - but I want it to be incremental and only have the NAS as the 'master' - eg if a file changes on the usb external hard drive I want it to ignore this change as its not the live version (not that I think the files will change on the usb disk but im paranoid the live could get overwritten) Also if a file gets deleted on live I want to retain the deleted file on the usb disk Can unison sync one-way and achive the above for me? if so with simply unison sorce/ target/ Work? • How to avoid damage to ISO archives?

  So had a problem where a 16GB ISO was damaged(likely my own fault using standard windows copy dialog instead of proper copy tool like robocopy with verification turned on). It took several hours but i managed to restore the ISO(basicly i rebuilt the damaged parts and recompiled).Namely some .rar archives inside it were unreadable but the ISO itself was readable. So im wondering how can i further protect something like this from happening again?.Obviously proper copy tool but mayble something else?.Perhaps set as "read only" could help?.I generally don't move these files a lot and if i need to acces them then it's only for opening/extracting.

• rc.local is not executed on bootup ubuntu

  Im on Ubuntu 10.04. I want to execute script on system boot. I added it to rc.local. If I execute rc.local manually it works fine. If I boot system in recovery mode(2nd string in boot menu) it also works fine. But if I boot normally it is not executed. However i added sleep 20 to my script and there is a pause at the end of boot process, but nothing more is executed. • Changing Servers - Redirect to new IP = No Downtime?

  I am changing servers of my website. The IP of old server cannot be moved to the new one. To have no downtime I am planing to do the following, please someone confirm it will work: Setup the new server and listen on the new IP Old server redirect all traffic to the new IP Change DNS records to point to the new IP My logic tells me that when I redirect to the new IP from my old box, the user will not see the domain name in the browser but will see the new IP. Is there a way to redirect to the new IP and send along the HOSTNAME with it so that the user will see the domain name in the browser? Im doing this because the site is in constant use and simply changing DNS settings won't do as database won't be synced between the new and old servers during propagation.

  hello everyone, I picked up a new server to do some testing and need of a little help in setting up my environment at home. Here is what I would like to do: The test server will be used to test new code and configurations for a SaaS product. I would like from my laptop to enter www.acme.com and have it hit the server. The server is connected to a wireless router. I have windows server 2008 with IIS running on an an IP of 192.168.1.4. What is the best way to set this up? I want to hit the test server for www.acme.com and not go out to the internet. Do i need to mess with the LMHosts file? Thanks for the help. Im sure its easy but have never done this before.

Before its fine i can ping google.co.uk after cant get out. Is there something wrong in my syntax here or what is the issue...? Im just trying to NAT my VPN so i can get internet access. • Ubuntu Karmic, Maximize delay problem

  Hello, I have tried various ubuntu versions, Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10 x86, Ubuntu 10.04 beta DVD, Ubuntu 9.10 AMD64, Mandriva 2010 x86, also a Fedora version and after installing compiz on all OS's, everything is working normal and smooth, even the compiz effects, cube, water, fire, wobbling windows, etc, except of the Maximize effect, where i get 2seconds+ delay for the effect. Cause it got me in a lot of thinking, why im getting this delay "problem", do you think there is any solution? or at least a way to decrease the delay? Thanks in advance. ;) P.S. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite P300d, AMD Turion 64 x2 Dual-Core TL-64 (2.20 GHz), ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3650 512MB, 3GB RAM.

  for work we have a remote dedicated server to run our webservice that also runs our email services, at home(comcast residential internet) i cannot send mail using the dedicated server's SMTP, comcast spits back a error saying i can only use their SMTP server for sending mail at work(comcast business internet) we can use our dedicated server for sending mail with no problem so i set up a box at work to forward smtp traffic, i'm new to all this networking stuff by the way i used delegate to forward smtp traffic, can someone point me in the right direction on how to use this program(delegate) to fix our issue the delegate command i used to test is : delegated -P25 SERVER="smtp://dedicated.server.com:25" PERMIT=":::" -v i also opened up port 25 on the router so it points to my boxes ip are there any other ways to fool comcast into thinking im using my works ip to send mail, my coworkers and i are unable to send mail from home for some time now thanks

  Im using jigdo-lite to download a Debian DVD ISO. I already have the CD version of the image, so I added the CD files to the task. Now I need to download many files (not all) of the DVD ISO. The default jigdo-lite uses wget to download files. It seems jigdo (wget) downloads only one file at a time with one connection. So I'm getting a low download speed. How can I accelerate the download speed using jigdo? Possible Solutions: Using different download manager with jigdo. Is it possible? If yes, How? Using jigdo (wget) to download multiple files at once. How? Getting download links of remaining files to download so that they can be downloaded with a download manager and later added to jigdo iso. How?

• Extract attachments from Mbox throw MIME

  I am a littlebit frustrated, im working on a project with the aim to build a system witch print automatically e-mail attachments of incoming mails ("E-Mail to Print"-system). I already set up a e-mail server (exim4) which receive perfectly e-mail and stores them to a mbox in /var/mail/ - now I want to extract the attachments out of the mbox file throw MIME to the original .PDF, .DOC, .JPG, .GIF, ... and save them in a directory, from where they get print. After the e-mail attachments got extracted they should be deleted, so they don't get extracted again. But how can I get this to work? I am not a coder, so I looked for existing scripts and programs but found nothing to work with. Could anyone give me little help - I would be very thankful! Thanks, Simeon

• phpmyadmin forbidden after changing config for my IP

  I followed the phpmyadmin setup and changed the config to require ip my ipaddress and allow from my ipaddress and its still telling me forbidden You don't have permission to access /phpmyadmin on this server. when I try to access the page on my browser (my server is not located on my machine). I installed everything using root. I also chmod 775 the entire phpMyAdmin folder. Im running RHEL 6.1. Any idea what to do at this point? • Nginx Forward SSL for single site

  I have a nginx server setup and it works fine for http however i would like to bypass the proxy for https connection. I want it so that when someone goes to my ip https:// ip1 (Nginx server) it bypasses ngix and forwards all traffic to https:// ip2(webserver) i do not need ngix to do this for any ssl website just one particular website. SO Client to https:// ip1 to https:/ /ip2 to https:// ip1 to client pc I just want the nginx to not intercept the connection and forward it on and on return forward the connection to client Im guessing i do this by nat mascarade buy not exactly sure how to do it and if i will need to tell nginx to ignore ssl aswell can someone help me please this has gone me stuck

  Hello, I am looking for a rsync script that will backup specific directories from my home machine to a remote server nightly. So say: /home/me/Pictures to ssh -p 6587 [email protected]/Pictures. It would be nice if it can look for changes but im not worried so much about the changes aspect is having a script that runs at a certain time of night with cron or however. • ISA - Why do i suddenly need to specify settings on the client machines?

  Have been pulling my hair out over this one for hours, and wondering if someone can help. I have a server with two network interfaces that was running isa 2004 and humming until i installed sbs service pack + isa 2004 service pack 3. Grrrrrrrrrr I can get the client machines to connect to the internet but only by installing the ISA Client on each machine or setting proxy settings etc in the internet settings. Ideally i want the client machines to just work with no configuration or proxy server settings as they were before. Where do i start, and what other information do you need from me if any to find out what im doing wrong Thanks!

• Windows 7 starter will not shutdown or logoff

  Hi all, Im having some problems with a friends netbook (a dell mini 10). It will not shutdown or logoff via the usual route. Whenever the shutdown/logoff button is clicked, it will briefly freeze (maybe for only a second) and then do nothing. Ive tried shutting down manually via the command line using shutdown /p but all to no avail, it just defaults back to flashing cursor in the command prompt. There doesnt seem to be any mention of a similar problem on google so i was wondering if anyone else had any ideas. Thanks oh and its runnning windows 7 starter.

  I am looking to add a third monitor to my workstation. I currently have 2 monitors connected to a geforce gt 120. I am wanting to find the cheapest solution on adding another monitor, I have a old ati x300 laying around and wanting to know if I would be able to use that to power the other monitor and if it would conflict with my other graphic card (I am not a gamer).   Im confusing about where should I have a script polling an Aws Sqs inside a Rails application. If I use a thread inside the web app probably it will use cpu cycles to listen this queue forever and then affecting performance. And if I reserve a single heroku worker dyno it costs $34.50 per month. It makes sense to pay this price for it for a single queue poll? Or it's not the case to use a worker for it? • IBM storage ds3400 Cant connect to management using fiber

  i have a problem with a DS3400 IBM storage system we bought a few years back. when i try to manage the storage using its IBM storage management i cant find it using automatic detection even though its connected directly using the fiber and i can see the Logical drives connected and working properly. when i tried to connect the two management Ethernet wires and manage the storage directly by entering the IP address manually i am able to connect however after i make several changes to the controller configuration one of the controllers stops responding and i am not able to ping it directly (since you cant make any changes without being connected to both controllers this is a problem) whats more bizarre is that when i change the IP of the controller that doesn't respond it starts working .. i have found some articles over the web explaining stuff about LUN31 being missing and causing similar problems however all my attempts to manually configure it failed . *link to an example http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/docdisplay?lndocid=MIGR-5075711 in short im trying to get my storage to appear in the storage manager when directly connected using only the fiber cable directly attached. thanks in advance

• use i3 tiling window manager in RHEL 5

  For some time I have been using the i3 tiling window manager in Ubuntu. However at my new company we use RHEL5. I would dearly love to port over all my configs but Im having some trouble... An initial (naive) approach seems that a simple yum install i3 yields no results for i3. I then used some additional rpm repos by following instructions to add the EPEL RPM Repositories but it seems i3 is only bundled for RHEL = 6. Damn. I'm fairly sure that this must be possible but I'm pretty new to the Redhat scene and am not sure how to approach this problem. Any pointers would be gratefully received!

  The Situation When im staying at my girlfriends we both like to have internet access on our laptops but her accommodation don't allow wireless routers. My Question My question is if I set up an Ad-Hoc network to share the internet connection as shown here on How To Geek. Will my laptop be acting as a wireless router or will the connection all go through my laptop as one ip address so it appears to be my computer accessing the webpages etc, that my girlfriend actually is. i would be interested in knowing any additional information that could help sove this problem eg. if connectify would do what i want.

• NIC: Changing Link Speed & Duplex to Full Duplex Is Drastically Slower

  I have an old Win Xp box with a 100 PRO/100 VE NIC and connecting to a Win 7 box with gigabit NIC via an ASUS gigabit router and peer to peer. I was getting 76% network utilisation on the XP machine using AUTO as the value for Link Speed and Duplex which is fine. But I decided to see what would happen if i selected Full Duplex 100Mbps on the XP box. I thought at worst it would be as good as auto detect since the Win 7 box it's transferring to is faster. Instead network utilisation dropped to 0.12% (as in a 10th of a percent) and the transfers just timed out. No biggie to reverse back to Auto but my question is why is full duplex such a dog? Im not "stuck" but just dont understand. There are only 2 machines here connecting through a router so i cant see how that would cause alot of collisions etc (if thats the problem).
