• OMG. Is Webmin safe? I can see file codes in Chrome browser without login

  When Im in File Manager of Webmin, I can double click and see the codes of the files in new tab in Firefox with its specific URL. But when I remove ?rand=xxxx... after the file.php and paste the URL in Chrome browser, I still can see the codes. This is the URL I just pasted in the Chrome browser http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:10000/file/show.cgi/var/www/html/mysite.com/files/file.php And then, I logout of webmin, and I change the file.php with other file, I can see the codes. OMG. Is Webmin safe? and how to secure this?

• Xen P2V for large physical hosts with much free space

  I need to P2V a rhel5 machine to xen under rhel5. I know I can use dd if=/dev/sda then using virt-install --import on the host, but the downside of this is the original machine has 80% free space on its drive. Does anyone know of (or can document) a quick and easy method which works reliably, to produce a bootable xen image which can run under a hvm in such cases ? I tried clonezilla to make the image, to avoid the free space problem, but it failed to do the clone with "something went wrong" (useless info, i know). At the moment im looking at doing a dd of each partition, and a file level copy of the partition which is mostly empty, then creating a new virtual disk, copying the partitions over to it by mounting both the new image and the virtual drive on a second vm, then copying the boot sectors over, then copying the file level backup..... there must be an easier way ? Oh, and budget is $0. :)

  i have acer al1702w lcd monitor in my office.. somehow i restarted the system using the reset button as the os stoped responding.. since then the 1440x900 resolution option in the display settings is not appearing.. the intel graphocs is 82945G... and as always the h/w guys at the office are of no help.. they start blurting out their theories that this the best resolution... even though i show them that the max resolution for the monitor is indeed 1440x900.. and its not that the 82945g cant handle it... as it was working before.. i installed the latest drivers for this graphics but still im not finding that option... how to force 1440x900 resolution... oh tes the os ix xp pro sp2 Thanks..

• Chrome Crash Investigation

  Chrome is crashing very very frequently(every 2-3 min). It becomes irresponsive. How can I start investigate why this is crashing so much? It feels to me that certain components of some web pages are triggering the crash. I also checked "C:\Users\irfan\AppData\Local\Google\CrashReports", but this folder is empty. Some sort of process tacking tool, and keep an eye out for which request is being made just before the crash, or something like that. Any software suggestion? Im using Windows 7. Please don't suggest, reinstall chrome. I want to know why this is happening.

• No internet connection for some programmes after installing ad hoc wireless network

  After installing a wireless network (through the program iPhoneModem) several programmes have stopped working when connected to the Internet using another wireless connection. Working programmes: Firefox (browser) uTorrent (p2p) FileZilla (ftp) etc. Programmes that are not working: Chrome (browser) Digsby (IM client) etc. I'm running Windows 7. I have tried to disable Windows Firewall entirely as well as AVG anti virus, with no effect. I've tried to run the FixIt program from Microsoft adressing a corrupt TCP/IP stack. This too had no effect. Any suggestions?

• Mirror DFS configuration data between 2 servers/ sites

  I have 1 Windows 2008 R2 server in Site A running Domain Integrated DFS in 2008 mode with a Single Namespace with a large number of DFS Targets all configured to point to a share on our NetApp SAN. Step 1. I want to initially copy this configuration data across to a 2012 server in Site A preserving all the configuration data. Step 2. I need to mirror this configuration to a 2nd server in Site B so we dont have a single point of failure for the DFS namespace. For Example. A user in Site B would "connect" to the DFS server in Site B, but if that site was down, it would attempt to connect to the Server in site A and vice versa. Note im not interesting in replicating actual Data here, just the configuration. Our NetApp SANS have mirroring which take care of that. Is this possible? Many thanks.

  Im trying to keep away some attackers that try to exploit XSS vulnerabilities from my website, I have found that most of the malicious attempts start with a classic "alert(document.cookie);\" test. The site is not vulnerable to XSS but I want to block the offending IP addresses before they found a real vulnerability, also, to keep the logs clean. My first thought is to have a script constantly checking in the Apache logs all IP addresses that start with that probe and send those addresses to an iptables drop rule. With something like this: cat /var/log/httpd/-access_log | grep "alert(document.cookie);" | awk '{print $1}' | uniq Why would be an effective way to send the output of that command to iptables?   I want to set up an Oracle Linux 6 server that gives users secure IMAP email (with dovecot), Jabber IM, FTP (with vsftpd), and calDav. However, I want each user logon to be able to authenticate all services (e.g. Joe Smith signs up once for a username and password that he can use for email, ftp, and his calendar). My question is, which database service will be best suited for that application? Also, is there a way to link the database with the preexisting server shell logins (e.g. so I can read the root account's LogCheck emails on a different device)?

  Doing a little research on the two to figure out which one may better suit my purposes (communications amongst different hardware). How do they fare against one another? Im far from being a specialist and have no idea where I would even start looking for data to compare and contrast. If possible can someone please answer the following questions in regards to each of these. Can they be networked amongst each other? Can they be easily networked over ethernet? What speeds do they transfer at? (Min, Max, Etc.) Reliability? Best framework to build on top of to support the above? Any standard communications programs? Debugging capability?   I'm trying to find an example to show where data is sent from somewhere, whether manually or automatically, and is received IMMEDIATELY by the recipient, (doesn't matter whether we're talking mobile, desktop or whatever). An even better example would be where there were multiple recipients for the same message. It doesn't matter what the data is or the context it's used in, only the immediacy of receiving it. I was thinking that there might be some example in finance and the stock markets, but I haven't been able to find any through googling. IM clients are a great example of this and I think I'm basically looking for examples of applications that communicate over sockets. If anyone works on applications of this nature or knows of particular implementations, can you give me a quick run down of the use case and if it's commercial software the name of the software. This is all basically for research purposes so doesn't have to be particularly detailed. If anyone can help, thanks.

  i have a 3.5" western digital my book 500gb external hdd....i gave it to a friend of mine and he broke the usb port in it...i went to a nearby comp repair shop and had him solder the thing...it didnt detect when i plugged it in my dell inspiron laptop........i recently saw about the 3.5" sata to usb enclosure, so i went to check it....strangely when its placed in the enclosure, its not detecting in windows...also when it was put as secondary(im guessing slave) to the shop fellow's desktop it shows up in the bios and starting, but then again doesnt show in windows 7, and the guy told me i need to data recovery to get teh data back p.s.the wd hdd doesnt have os, just data, soo my question is: can i slave the drive to my dell laptop and try to recover the data....if so how? please i would really appreciate it...thanks in advance

  i've read some threads here in SO that someone managed to use gmail's smtp server to send out messages from php script. so if php sends a mail to [email protected] it looks like this: php tells sendmail (smtp server) to send the message sendmail sends the message to gmail's smtp server gmail's smtp server sends the message to hotmail's smtp server so now i wonder, why should one use gmail's smtp server to send a mail? isn't it better just to send the message from sendmail to hotmail's smtp server? correct me if im wrong, but isnt all that requires for a mail to be sent a communication between TWO smtp servers, the senders and the receivers (in this case, hotmail)? and another question, why can't php just send the message directly to hotmail's smtp server, why does it have to go through a local smtp server? and why do you call it a smtp server when sendmail is just acting like a client to send a message and does not receive anything? would be great if someone could shed a light on this topic!

To be more exact replacement for (Thb +Enigmail this is the tandem Im using now) Best way would be if PGP would be built in into application. • Superscope DHCP leases and configuration set up

  Hello I wanted to see if someone could help with a network problem I am having. Right now we have a super-scope and scopes of 192.168.50.1 and 192.168.51.1, as of now both are activated but only 192.168.50.1 is handing our leases, 192.168.51 wont. here is a summary of our network Gateway: watchguard firebox x750e for our router/gateway at 192.168.50.1 I set up as a secondary IP address 192.168.51.1 Server: Server 2008 r2 standard, running our DNS @ 192.168.50.242 and 8.8.8.8 as a secondary, AD, and DHCP. On that NIC card i have 192.168.50.242 as the IP address and 192.168.51.242 as a secondary. 192.168.50.1 as the default gateway and 192.168.51.1 as a secondary. Im am not very knowledgeable at this but as far as i have researched after adding a super scope and activating scopes, they should automatically start handing out addresses and I cant figure out why only one does. any help at all would be appreciated.

• Enumerating network shares with NetBIOS

  Hello, I have a case where I need to find all connectable shares on my network, and preferably as much information about the share possible. I could do this manually but its quite a big network and it would be too slow. If I did it manually Im guessing I would do something like net view net use //hostname <browse it manually> This would however not give me hidden shares so its not a viable option. Does anyone know of a tool which can help me out in this case? I already tried Sysinternals ShareEnum but it did not work properly. It did a half decent job, but it gave me access denied on tons of shares that was actually open. Any tips in how I can script this is also appriciated. Thank you

  I am using "convert" from IM to get PNGs from multi-page TIFF files, everything is good except the speed. From "convert" documentation, I found: For the MNG and PNG image formats, the quality value sets the zlib compression level (quality / 10) and filter-type (quality % 10). For compression level 0, the Huffman-only strategy is used, which is fastest but not necessarily the worst compression. The default PNG compression is 75. So I tried "-quality 0", but almost no changes with the spreed. Anyone can share the ideas of how to improve the spreed? • How do I lower idle cpu usage in ubuntu linux? Gnome or KDE Variants

  My question comes from a kde desktop currently, but it also happens with the gnome instance. When just sitting there, with only the cpu monitor widget running. no open windows, no background processes other than the desktop, my cpu is at ~20%. I wanna know how to fix this, and possibly get better performance out of it. When running my windows side, the cpu will sit at zero, and i generally load new programs about 400ms faster. With windows 7 being as slow as it is, this is not acceptable. and the widget is only set to check every 500ms, so im almost completely sure its not the widget. My system is a Gateway nv 53 amd 2.0 ghz turion with 4 gb of installed ram, and 500 gb hd. both linux and windows are 64 bit. average ram use on either system is about 1.4 gb for just the os

• "Input not Supported" on external monitor

  when it rains, it pours! Im helping a friend with his Dell Inspiron 1520. The hdd crashed and and top of that, the screen is cracked. I've replaced the hdd (SATA-5400), but the lcd replacement is only comin in a months time. I've tried to: hook the laptop up to an Acer 18.5" lcd monitor via VGA, boot up into Windows 7 installer, get to the Step-1 screen, Switch to external display (Function-F8) ...and get the "Input not supported" message on the Acer lcd. I know that this is a resolution problem, but cant for the life of me figure out how to solve this. I've also tried, hooking it up to my TV via Composite cables (got a VGA-Composite adaptor). Please could someone advise me what to do? -Thank u!

• Powershell Foreach-Object with if statement not working - help!

  I have a batch file that takes a computer name as its argument and will install Java JRE on it remotely. Now, Im trying to run this Powershell script to repeatedly call the batch file and install Java on any system that it finds without the latest version. It seems to run error-free, but the statements inside the if code block never seem to run - even when the if conditional test evaluates to true. • Moving Exchange .EDB and .STM file to other partition

  Im trying to move my exchange mailbox store to a new partition and i keep running into an error message saying: "cannot copy insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service." The server is a Dell Poweredge 2850 with Dual Xeon Processors @ 3.00GHz and 4GB of ram. Running Win Server 2K3 R2 SP2 with Exchange 2K3 Standard. The Store is around 55GB any ideas. I want to get exchange on its on partition since I need to free up some space on the partition its currently on.
