  • Cascading updates with business key equality: Hibernate best practices?

    - by Traphicone
    I'm new to Hibernate, and while there are literally tons of examples to look at, there seems to be so much flexibility here that it's sometimes very hard to narrow all the options down the best way of doing things. I've been working on a project for a little while now, and despite reading through a lot of books, articles, and forums, I'm still left with a bit of a head scratcher. Any veteran advice would be very appreciated. So, I have a model involving two classes with a one-to-many relationship from parent to child. Each class has a surrogate primary key and a uniquely constrained composite business key. <class name="Container"> <id name="id" type="java.lang.Long"> <generator class="identity"/> </id> <properties name="containerBusinessKey" unique="true" update="false"> <property name="name" not-null="true"/> <property name="owner" not-null="true"/> </properties> <set name="items" inverse="true" cascade="all-delete-orphan"> <key column="container" not-null="true"/> <one-to-many class="Item"/> </set> </class> <class name="Item"> <id name="id" type="java.lang.Long"> <generator class="identity"/> </id> <properties name="itemBusinessKey" unique="true" update="false"> <property name="type" not-null="true"/> <property name="color" not-null="true"/> </properties> <many-to-one name="container" not-null="true" update="false" class="Container"/> </class> The beans behind these mappings are as boring as you can possibly imagine--nothing fancy going on. With that in mind, consider the following code: Container c = new Container("Things", "Me"); c.addItem(new Item("String", "Blue")); c.addItem(new Item("Wax", "Red")); Transaction t = session.beginTransaction(); session.saveOrUpdate(c); t.commit(); Everything works fine the first time, and both the Container and its Items are persisted. If the above code block is executed again, however, Hibernate throws a ConstraintViolationException--duplicate values for the "name" and "owner" columns. Because the new Container instance has a null identifier, Hibernate assumes it is an unsaved transient instance. This is expected but not desired. Since the persistent and transient Container objects have the same business key values, what we really want is to issue an update. It is easy enough to convince Hibernate that our new Container instance is the same as our old one. With a quick query we can get the identifier of the Container we'd like to update, and set our transient object's identifier to match. Container c = new Container("Things", "Me"); c.addItem(new Item("String", "Blue")); c.addItem(new Item("Wax", "Red")); Query query = session.createSQLQuery("SELECT id FROM Container" + "WHERE name = ? AND owner = ?"); query.setString(0, c.getName()); query.setString(1, c.getOwner()); BigInteger id = (BigInteger)query.uniqueResult(); if (id != null) { c.setId(id.longValue()); } Transaction t = session.beginTransaction(); session.saveOrUpdate(c); t.commit(); This almost satisfies Hibernate, but because the one-to-many relationship from Container to Item cascades, the same ConstraintViolationException is also thrown for the child Item objects. My question is: what is the best practice in this situation? It is highly recommended to use surrogate primary keys, and it is also recommended to use business key equality. When you put these two recommendations in to practice together, however, two of the greatest conveniences of Hibernate--saveOrUpdate and cascading operations--seem to be rendered almost completely useless. As I see it, I have only two options: Manually fetch and set the identifier for each object in the mapping. This clearly works, but for even a moderately sized schema this is a lot of extra work which it seems Hibernate could easily be doing. Write a custom interceptor to fetch and set object identifiers on each operation. This looks cleaner than the first option but is rather heavy-handed, and it seems wrong to me that you should be expected to write a plug-in which overrides Hibernate's default behavior for a mapping which follows the recommended design. Is there a better way? Am I making completely the wrong assumptions? I'm hoping that I'm just missing something. Thanks.

  • How the JOptionPane works

    - by DevAno1
    How can I control what happens with window after clicking JOPtionPane buttons ? I'm trying to implement simple file chooser. In my frame I have 3 buttons (OK, Cancel, Browse). Browse button opens file search window, and after picking files should return to main frame. Clicking OK will open a frame with the content of the file. Now porblem looks this way. With the code below, I can choose file but directly after that a new frame is created, and my frame with buttons dissapears : import java.io.File; import java.io.BufferedReader; import java.io.FileReader; import java.io.IOException; import java.awt.*; import javax.swing.*; import java.io.*; public class Main { public static void main(String args[]) { javax.swing.SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { show("Window"); } }); } public static void show(String frame_name){ JFrame frame = new JFrame(frame_name); frame.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(450, 300)); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); JPanel top = new JPanel(); top.setLayout(new BoxLayout(top, BoxLayout.Y_AXIS)); JFileChooser fc = new JFileChooser(new File(".")); JPanel creator = new JPanel(); creator.setLayout(new BoxLayout(creator, BoxLayout.Y_AXIS)); creator.add(top); String[] buttons = {"OK", "Cancel", "Browse"}; int rc = JOptionPane.showOptionDialog( null, creator, frame_name, JOptionPane.DEFAULT_OPTION, JOptionPane.PLAIN_MESSAGE, null, buttons, buttons[0] ); String approveButt = ""; switch(rc){ case 0: break; case 1: break; case 2: approveButt = buttons[rc]; int retVal = fc.showDialog(null, approveButt); if (retVal == JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION) System.out.println(approveButt + " " + fc.getSelectedFile()); break; } frame.pack(); frame.setVisible(true); } } With the second code I can return to my menu, but in no way I am able to pop this new frame, which appeared with first code. How to control this ? What am I missing ? public class Main { public static void main(String args[]) { javax.swing.SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { show("Window"); } }); } public static void show(String frame_name){ JFrame frame = new JFrame(frame_name); frame.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(450, 300)); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); JPanel top = new JPanel(); top.setLayout(new BoxLayout(top, BoxLayout.Y_AXIS)); JFileChooser fc = new JFileChooser(new File(".")); JPanel creator = new JPanel(); creator.setLayout(new BoxLayout(creator, BoxLayout.Y_AXIS)); creator.add(top); String[] buttons = {"OK", "Cancel", "Browse"}; String approveButt = ""; Plane m = null; int rc = -1; while (rc != 0) { rc = JOptionPane.showOptionDialog( null, creator, frame_name, JOptionPane.DEFAULT_OPTION, JOptionPane.PLAIN_MESSAGE, null, buttons, buttons[0] ); switch (rc) { case 0: m = new Plane(); case 1: System.exit(0); case 2: approveButt = buttons[rc]; int retVal = fc.showDialog(null, approveButt); if (retVal == JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION) System.out.println(approveButt + " " + fc.getSelectedFile()); break; default: break; } } addComponents(frame.getContentPane(), m); frame.pack(); frame.setVisible(true); } private static void addComponents(Container c, Plane e) { c.setLayout(new BoxLayout(c, BoxLayout.Y_AXIS)); c.add(e); } } class Plane extends JPanel { public Plane(){ } @Override public void paint(Graphics g){ g.setColor(Color.BLUE); g.fillRect(0, 0, 400, 250); } }

  • MySQL + MyISAM table size question

    - by alessandro ferrucci
    Hello, I have a test table. The test table is as follows: CREATE TABLE mytest ( num1 int(10) unsigned NOT NULL, KEY key1 (num1) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; I inserted 50 million rows in this table. When I do show table status the avg_row_length is 7. I was expecting to see 4 since mySQL uses 4 bytes for integers. Does the key have an effect on the avg_row_length? When I look at my .MYD file the size is 334 MB which is exactly what it should be given that the avg_row_length is 7, however I was really expecting to see 190 MB given that I only have an int. +----------------+--------+---------+------------+----------+----------------+-------------+------------------+--------------+-----------+----------------+---------------------+---------------------+------------+-------------------+----------+----------------+---------+ | Name | Engine | Version | Row_format | Rows | Avg_row_length | Data_length | Max_data_length | Index_length | Data_free | Auto_increment | Create_time | Update_time | Check_time | Collation | Checksum | Create_options | Comment | +----------------+--------+---------+------------+----------+----------------+-------------+------------------+--------------+-----------+----------------+---------------------+---------------------+------------+-------------------+----------+----------------+---------+ | mytest | MyISAM | 10 | Fixed | 50000000 | 7 | 350000000 | 1970324836974591 | 600518656 | 0 | NULL | 2010-05-22 09:15:06 | 2010-05-22 19:32:53 | NULL | latin1_swedish_ci | NULL | | | I have included the output of show table status for mytest table.   • getjson and servers

    - by gheil.apl
    Is getJSON only useful for those who control a server? Is there any other alternative for getting data from a file? i tried $.getJSON("good.json", function(data){ out=out+"good.json: "+data + ","; }); where good.json = {"a":"1","b":"2"} and got a result of 'null' for data. These all are valid JSON files, and all give null when used in the above: good.htm assoc.json assoc.js stub.json stub.js test.js test.txt and all get a null result... The above is in an interactive setting at http://jsbin.com/dbJSON/8/edit the output (of null) is to be had by clicking 'output'.

  • Refresh page isnt working in asp.net using treeview

    - by Greg
    Hi, I am trying to refresh an asp.net page using this command: <meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="10"/> On that page I have 2 treeviews. The refresh works ok when I just open the page, but when I click on one of the treeviews and expand it, the refresh stopps working and the page isnt being refreshed. Any ideas why this can happen? Is there any connection to the treeview being expanded? Here is the full code of the page: public partial class Results : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { } // Function that moves reviewed yellow card to reviewed tree protected void ycActiveTree_SelectedNodeChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { ycActiveTree.SelectedNode.Text = "Move To Active"; ycReviewedTree.PopulateNodesFromClient = false; ycReviewedTree.Nodes[ycReviewedTree.Nodes.Count - 1].ChildNodes.Add(ycActiveTree.SelectedNode.Parent); Application["reviewedTree"] = new ArrayList(); int count = ((ArrayList)Application["activeTree"]).Count; // Move all the nodes from activeTree application to reviewedTree application for (int i = 0; Application["activeTree"] != null && i < count; i++) { ((ArrayList)Application["reviewedTree"]).Add(((ArrayList)Application["activeTree"])[i]); ((ArrayList)Application["activeTree"]).RemoveAt(0); } } protected void ycActiveTree_TreeNodePopulate(object sender, TreeNodeEventArgs e) { if (Application["idList"] != null && e.Node.Depth == 0) { string[] words = ((String)Application["idList"]).Split(' '); // Yellow Card details TreeNode child = new TreeNode(""); // Go over all the yellow card details and populate the treeview for (int i = 1; i < words.Length; i++) { child.SelectAction = TreeNodeSelectAction.None; // Same yellow card if (words[i] != "*") { // End of details and start of point ip's if (words[i] == "$") { // Add the yellow card node TreeNode yellowCardNode = new TreeNode(child.Text); yellowCardNode.SelectAction = TreeNodeSelectAction.Expand; e.Node.ChildNodes.Add(yellowCardNode); child.Text = ""; } // yellow card details else { child.Text = child.Text + words[i] + " "; } } // End of yellow card else { child.PopulateOnDemand = false; child.SelectAction = TreeNodeSelectAction.None; // Populate the yellow card node e.Node.ChildNodes[e.Node.ChildNodes.Count - 1].ChildNodes.Add(child); TreeNode moveChild = new TreeNode("Move To Reviewed"); moveChild.PopulateOnDemand = false; moveChild.SelectAction = TreeNodeSelectAction.Select; e.Node.ChildNodes[e.Node.ChildNodes.Count - 1].ChildNodes.Add(moveChild); child = new TreeNode(""); Application["activeTree"] = new ArrayList(); ((ArrayList)Application["activeTree"]).Add(e.Node.ChildNodes[e.Node.ChildNodes.Count - 1]); } } } // If there arent new yellow cards else if (Application["activeTree"] != null) { // Populate the active tree for (int i = 0; i < ((ArrayList)Application["activeTree"]).Count; i++) { e.Node.ChildNodes.Add((TreeNode)((ArrayList)Application["activeTree"])[i]); } } // If there were new yellow cards and nodes that moved from reviewed tree to active tree if (Application["idList"] != null && Application["activeTree"] != null && e.Node.ChildNodes.Count != ((ArrayList)Application["activeTree"]).Count) { for (int i = e.Node.ChildNodes.Count; i < ((ArrayList)Application["activeTree"]).Count; i++) { e.Node.ChildNodes.Add((TreeNode)((ArrayList)Application["activeTree"])[i]); } } // Nullify the yellow card id's Application["idList"] = null; } protected void ycReviewedTree_SelectedNodeChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { ycActiveTree.PopulateNodesFromClient = false; ycReviewedTree.SelectedNode.Text = "Move To Reviewed"; ycActiveTree.Nodes[ycActiveTree.Nodes.Count - 1].ChildNodes.Add(ycReviewedTree.SelectedNode.Parent); int count = ((ArrayList)Application["reviewedTree"]).Count; // Move all the nodes from reviewedTree application to activeTree application for (int i = 0; Application["reviewedTree"] != null && i < count; i++) { ((ArrayList)Application["activeTree"]).Add(((ArrayList)Application["reviewedTree"])[i]); ((ArrayList)Application["reviewedTree"]).RemoveAt(0); } } protected void ycReviewedTree_TreeNodePopulate(object sender, TreeNodeEventArgs e) { if (Application["reviewedTree"] != null) { // Populate the reviewed tree for (int i = 0; i < ((ArrayList)Application["reviewedTree"]).Count; i++) { e.Node.ChildNodes.Add((TreeNode)((ArrayList)Application["reviewedTree"])[i]); } } } } Thanks, Greg

  • Bulk inserting and updating with Entity Framework (Probably a better alternative?)

    - by Dave
    I have a data set of devices, addresses, and companies that I need to import into our database, with the catch that our database may already include a specific device/address/company that is included in the new data set. If that is the case, I need to update that entry with the new information in the data set, excluding addresses. We check if an exact copy of that address exists, otherwise we make a new entry. My issue is that it is very slow to attempt to grab a device/company in EF and if it exist updated it, otherwise insert it. To fix this I tried to get all the companies, devices, and addresses and insert them into respective hashmaps, and check if the identifier of the new data exists in the hashmap. This hasn't led to any performance increases. I've included my code below. Typically I would do a batch insert, I'm not sure what I would do for a batch update though. Can someone advise a different route? var context = ObjectContextHelper.CurrentObjectContext; var oldDevices = context.Devices; var companies = context.Companies; var addresses = context.Addresses; Dictionary<string, Company> companyMap = new Dictionary<string, Company>(StringComparer.OrdinalIgnoreCase); Dictionary<string, Device> deviceMap = new Dictionary<string, Device>(StringComparer.OrdinalIgnoreCase); Dictionary<string, Address> addressMap = new Dictionary<string, Address>(StringComparer.OrdinalIgnoreCase); foreach (Company c in companies) { if (c.CompanyAccountID != null && !companyMap.ContainsKey(c.CompanyAccountID)) companyMap.Add(c.CompanyAccountID, c); } foreach (Device d in oldDevices) { if (d.SerialNumber != null && !deviceMap.ContainsKey(d.SerialNumber)) deviceMap.Add(d.SerialNumber, d); } foreach (Address a in addresses) { string identifier = GetAddressIdentifier(a); if (!addressMap.ContainsKey(identifier)) addressMap.Add(identifier, a); } foreach (DeviceData.TabsDevice device in devices) { // update a device Company tempCompany; Address tempAddress; Device currentDevice; if (deviceMap.ContainsKey(device.SerialNumber)) //update a device deviceMap.TryGetValue(device.SerialNumber, out currentDevice); else // insert a new device currentDevice = new Device(); currentDevice.SerialNumber = device.SerialNumber; currentDevice.SerialNumberTABS = device.SerialNumberTabs; currentDevice.Model = device.Model; if (device.CustomerAccountID != null && device.CustomerAccountID != "") { companyMap.TryGetValue(device.CustomerAccountID, out tempCompany); currentDevice.CustomerID = tempCompany.CompanyID; currentDevice.CustomerName = tempCompany.CompanyName; } if (companyMap.TryGetValue(device.ServicingDealerAccountID, out tempCompany)) currentDevice.CompanyID = tempCompany.CompanyID; currentDevice.StatusID = 1; currentDevice.Retries = 0; currentDevice.ControllerFamilyID = 1; if (currentDevice.EWBFrontPanelMsgOption == null) // set the Panel option to the default if it isn't set already currentDevice.EWBFrontPanelMsgOption = context.EWBFrontPanelMsgOptions.Where( i => i.OptionDescription.Contains("default")).Single(); // link the device to the existing address as long as it is actually an address if (addressMap.TryGetValue(GetAddressIdentifier(device.address), out tempAddress)) { if (GetAddressIdentifier(device.address) != "") currentDevice.Address = tempAddress; else currentDevice.Address = null; } else // insert a new Address and link the device to it (if not null) { if (GetAddressIdentifier(device.address) == "") currentDevice.Address = null; else { tempAddress = new Address(); tempAddress.Address1 = device.address.Address1; tempAddress.Address2 = device.address.Address2; tempAddress.Address3 = device.address.Address3; tempAddress.Address4 = device.address.Address4; tempAddress.City = device.address.City; tempAddress.Country = device.address.Country; tempAddress.PostalCode = device.address.PostalCode; tempAddress.State = device.address.State; addresses.AddObject(tempAddress); addressMap.Add(GetAddressIdentifier(tempAddress), tempAddress); currentDevice.Address = tempAddress; } } if (!deviceMap.ContainsKey(device.SerialNumber)) // if inserting, add to context { oldDevices.AddObject(currentDevice); deviceMap.Add(device.SerialNumber, currentDevice); } } context.SaveChanges();

  • GetOleDbSchemaTable Foreign Keys on Sql Server 2005

    - by haxelit
    I'm trying to get the Foreign Keys for a table in my SQL Server 2005 database. I'm using the GetOleDbSchemaTable function right now: DataTable schemaTable = connection.GetOleDbSchemaTable( OleDbSchemaGuid.Foreign_Keys, new object[] { null, null, null, "TABLE" }); This pulls back the right foreign keys, the only problem is that the UpdateRule and DeleteRule are set to "No Action". If I browse to the same table in SSMS I can see that my DeleteRule is "Set NULL". Does the GetOleDbSchemaTable function not return the proper foreign key rules ? Has any one else ran into this problem ?

  • How to find nth element from the end of a singly linked list?

    - by Codenotguru
    The following function is trying to find the nth to last element of a singly linked list. For example: If the elements are 8->10->5->7->2->1->5->4->10->10 then the result is 7th to last node is 7. Can anybody help me on how this code is working or is there a better and simpler approach? LinkedListNode nthToLast(LinkedListNode head, int n) { if (head == null || n < 1) { return null; } LinkedListNode p1 = head; LinkedListNode p2 = head; for (int j = 0; j < n - 1; ++j) { // skip n-1 steps ahead if (p2 == null) { return null; // not found since list size < n } p2 = p2.next; } while (p2.next != null) { p1 = p1.next; p2 = p2.next; } return p1; }

  • Good practices for intialising properties ?

    - by Rubans
    HI, I have a class property that is a list of strings, List. Sometimes this property is null or if it has been set but the list is empty then count is 0. However elsewhere in my code I need to check whether this property is set, so currently my code check whether it's null and count is 0 which seems messy. if(objectA.folders is null) { if(objectA.folders.count == 0) { // do something } } Any recommendation on how this should be handled? Maybe I should always initialise the property so that it's never null? Appolgies if this is a silly question.

  • MVC SiteMap - when different nodes point to same action SiteMap.CurrentNode does not map to the correct route

    - by awrigley
    Setup: I am using ASP.NET MVC 4, with mvcSiteMapProvider to manage my menus. I have a custom menu builder that evaluates whether a node is on the current branch (ie, if the SiteMap.CurrentNode is either the CurrentNode or the CurrentNode is nested under it). The code is included below, but essentially checks the url of each node and compares it with the url of the currentnode, up through the currentnodes "family tree". The CurrentBranch is used by my custom menu builder to add a class that highlights menu items on the CurrentBranch. The Problem: My custom menu works fine, but I have found that the mvcSiteMapProvider does not seem to evaluate the url of the CurrentNode in a consistent manner: When two nodes point to the same action and are distinguished only by a parameter of the action, SiteMap.CurrentNode does not seem to use the correct route (it ignores the distinguishing parameter and defaults to the first route that that maps to the action defined in the node). Example of the Problem: In an app I have Members. A Member has a MemberStatus field that can be "Unprocessed", "Active" or "Inactive". To change the MemberStatus, I have a ProcessMemberController in an Area called Admin. The processing is done using the Process action on the ProcessMemberController. My mvcSiteMap has two nodes that BOTH map to the Process action. The only difference between them is the alternate parameter (such are my client's domain semantics), that in one case has a value of "Processed" and in the other "Unprocessed": Nodes: <mvcSiteMapNode title="Process" area="Admin" controller="ProcessMembers" action="Process" alternate="Unprocessed" /> <mvcSiteMapNode title="Change Status" area="Admin" controller="ProcessMembers" action="Process" alternate="Processed" /> Routes: The corresponding routes to these two nodes are (again, the only thing that distinguishes them is the value of the alternate parameter): context.MapRoute( "Process_New_Members", "Admin/Unprocessed/Process/{MemberId}", new { controller = "ProcessMembers", action = "Process", alternate="Unprocessed", MemberId = UrlParameter.Optional } ); context.MapRoute( "Change_Status_Old_Members", "Admin/Members/Status/Change/{MemberId}", new { controller = "ProcessMembers", action = "Process", alternate="Processed", MemberId = UrlParameter.Optional } ); What works: The Html.ActionLink helper uses the routes and produces the urls I expect: @Html.ActionLink("Process", MVC.Admin.ProcessMembers.Process(item.MemberId, "Unprocessed") // Output (alternate="Unprocessed" and item.MemberId = 12): Admin/Unprocessed/Process/12 @Html.ActionLink("Status", MVC.Admin.ProcessMembers.Process(item.MemberId, "Processed") // Output (alternate="Processed" and item.MemberId = 23): Admin/Members/Status/Change/23 In both cases the output is correct and as I expect. What doesn't work: Let's say my request involves the second option, ie, /Admin/Members/Status/Change/47, corresponding to alternate = "Processed" and a MemberId of 47. Debugging my static CurrentBranch property (see below), I find that SiteMap.CurrentNode shows: PreviousSibling: null Provider: {MvcSiteMapProvider.DefaultSiteMapProvider} ReadOnly: false ResourceKey: "" Roles: Count = 0 RootNode: {Home} Title: "Process" Url: "/Admin/Unprocessed/Process/47" Ie, for a request url of /Admin/Members/Status/Change/47, SiteMap.CurrentNode.Url evaluates to /Admin/Unprocessed/Process/47. Ie, it is ignorning the alternate parameter and using the wrong route. CurrentBranch Static Property: /// <summary> /// ReadOnly. Gets the Branch of the Site Map that holds the SiteMap.CurrentNode /// </summary> public static List<SiteMapNode> CurrentBranch { get { List<SiteMapNode> currentBranch = null; if (currentBranch == null) { SiteMapNode cn = SiteMap.CurrentNode; SiteMapNode n = cn; List<SiteMapNode> ln = new List<SiteMapNode>(); if (cn != null) { while (n != null && n.Url != SiteMap.RootNode.Url) { // I don't need to check for n.ParentNode == null // because cn != null && n != SiteMap.RootNode ln.Add(n); n = n.ParentNode; } // the while loop excludes the root node, so add it here // I could add n, that should now be equal to SiteMap.RootNode, but this is clearer ln.Add(SiteMap.RootNode); // The nodes were added in reverse order, from the CurrentNode up, so reverse them. ln.Reverse(); } currentBranch = ln; } return currentBranch; } } The Question: What am I doing wrong? The routes are interpreted by Html.ActionLlink as I expect, but are not evaluated by SiteMap.CurrentNode as I expect. In other words, in evaluating my routes, SiteMap.CurrentNode ignores the distinguishing alternate parameter.

  • How do I apply a "template" or "skeleton" of code in C# here?

    - by Scott Stafford
    In my business layer, I need many, many methods that follow the pattern: public BusinessClass PropertyName { get { if (this.m_LocallyCachedValue == null) { if (this.Record == null) { this.m_LocallyCachedValue = new BusinessClass( this.Database, this.PropertyId); } else { this.m_LocallyCachedValue = new BusinessClass( this.Database, this.Record.ForeignKeyName); } } return this.m_LocallyCachedValue; } } I am still learning C#, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to write this pattern once and add methods to each business layer class that follow this pattern with the proper types and variable names substituted. BusinessClass is a typename that must be substituted, and PropertyName, PropertyId, ForeignKeyName, and m_LocallyCachedValue are all variables that should be substituted for. Are attributes usable here? Do I need reflection? How do I write the skeleton I provided in one place and then just write a line or two containing the substitution parameters and get the pattern to propagate itself? EDIT: Modified my misleading title -- I am hoping to find a solution that doesn't involve code generation or copy/paste techniques, and rather to be able to write the skeleton of the code once in a base class in some form and have it be "instantiated" into lots of subclasses as the accessor for various properties. EDIT: Here is my solution, as suggested but left unimplemented by the chosen answerer. // I'll write many of these... public BusinessClass PropertyName { get { return GetSingleRelation(ref this.m_LocallyCachedValue, this.PropertyId, "ForeignKeyName"); } } // That all call this. public TBusinessClass GetSingleRelation<TBusinessClass>( ref TBusinessClass cachedField, int fieldId, string contextFieldName) { if (cachedField == null) { if (this.Record == null) { ConstructorInfo ci = typeof(TBusinessClass).GetConstructor( new Type[] { this.Database.GetType(), typeof(int) }); cachedField = (TBusinessClass)ci.Invoke( new object[] { this.Database, fieldId }); } else { var obj = this.Record.GetType().GetProperty(objName).GetValue( this.Record, null); ConstructorInfo ci = typeof(TBusinessClass).GetConstructor( new Type[] { this.Database.GetType(), obj.GetType()}); cachedField = (TBusinessClass)ci.Invoke( new object[] { this.Database, obj }); } } return cachedField; }

  • Inserting contact with android and querying the result uri returns no entries

    - by th0m4d
    Im developing an application which is dealing with the android contacts API. I implemented methods to insert, update and query contacts. So far everything worked (writing and reading contacts). At one point in my project Im experiencing a strange behaviour. I insert a contact using batch mode. I receive the URI to the RawContact. I do this in a background thread. // use batchmode for contact insertion ArrayList ops = new ArrayList(); int rawContactInsertIndex = ops.size(); // create rawContact ops.add(ContentProviderOperation.newInsert(RawContacts.CONTENT_URI) .withValue(RawContacts.ACCOUNT_TYPE, ConstantsContract.ACCOUNT_TYPE) .withValue(RawContacts.ACCOUNT_NAME, accountName).build()); ops.add(createInsertOperation().withValueBackReference(Data.RAW_CONTACT_ID, rawContactInsertIndex) .withValue(Data.MIMETYPE, StructuredName.CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE) .withValue(StructuredName.DISPLAY_NAME, displayName).withValue(StructuredName.GIVEN_NAME, firstName) .withValue(StructuredName.FAMILY_NAME, lastName).build()); //other data values... ContentProviderResult[] results = context.getContentResolver().applyBatch(ContactsContract.AUTHORITY, ops); if (results.length 0) { result = results[0]; } Then i request and store the lookup uri RawContacts.getContactLookupUri(this.getContentResolver(), myContantRawContactUri); I am able to query the contact using the rawContactUri directly after inserting it (in the same thread). The lookup uri returns null. Uri rawContactUri = appUser.getRawContactUri(ctx); if (rawContactUri == null) { return null; } String lastPathSegment = rawContactUri.getLastPathSegment(); long rawContactId = Long.decode(lastPathSegment); if (rawContactUri != null) { contact = readContactWithID(rawContactId, ContactsContract.Data.RAW_CONTACT_ID); In a different place in the project I want to query the contact i inserted by the stored lookup uri or raw contact uri. Both return no rows from the content provider. I tried it in the main thread and in another background thread. ctx.getContentResolver().query(ContactsContract.Data.CONTENT_URI, null, ContactsContract.Data.RAW_CONTACT_ID + " = ? AND " + ContactsContract.Data.MIMETYPE + " = ?", new String[] { contactID + "", ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.StructuredName.CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE }, null); My first thought was that it could be related to the context.getContentResolver(). But the android documentation states, that the ContentResolver objects scope is the application's package, so you have on ContentResolver for the whole app. Am I right? What am I doing wrong? Why does the same rawContactUri return the contact at one place and does not on another place? And why do I get a lookup uri from a raw contact, which is not working at all?

  • CLR 4.0 inlining policy? (maybe bug with MethodImplOptions.NoInlining)

    - by ControlFlow
    I've testing some new CLR 4.0 behavior in method inlining (cross-assembly inlining) and found some strage results: Assembly ClassLib.dll: using System.Diagnostics; using System; using System.Reflection; using System.Security; using System.Runtime.CompilerServices; namespace ClassLib { public static class A { static readonly MethodInfo GetExecuting = typeof(Assembly).GetMethod("GetExecutingAssembly"); public static Assembly Foo(out StackTrace stack) // 13 bytes { // explicit call to GetExecutingAssembly() stack = new StackTrace(); return Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly(); } public static Assembly Bar(out StackTrace stack) // 25 bytes { // reflection call to GetExecutingAssembly() stack = new StackTrace(); return (Assembly) GetExecuting.Invoke(null, null); } public static Assembly Baz(out StackTrace stack) // 9 bytes { stack = new StackTrace(); return null; } public static Assembly Bob(out StackTrace stack) // 13 bytes { // call of non-inlinable method! return SomeSecurityCriticalMethod(out stack); } [SecurityCritical, MethodImpl(MethodImplOptions.NoInlining)] static Assembly SomeSecurityCriticalMethod(out StackTrace stack) { stack = new StackTrace(); return Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly(); } } } Assembly ConsoleApp.exe using System; using ClassLib; using System.Diagnostics; class Program { static void Main() { Console.WriteLine("runtime: {0}", Environment.Version); StackTrace stack; Console.WriteLine("Foo: {0}\n{1}", A.Foo(out stack), stack); Console.WriteLine("Bar: {0}\n{1}", A.Bar(out stack), stack); Console.WriteLine("Baz: {0}\n{1}", A.Baz(out stack), stack); Console.WriteLine("Bob: {0}\n{1}", A.Bob(out stack), stack); } } Results: runtime: 4.0.30128.1 Foo: ClassLib, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null at ClassLib.A.Foo(StackTrace& stack) at Program.Main() Bar: ClassLib, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null at ClassLib.A.Bar(StackTrace& stack) at Program.Main() Baz: at Program.Main() Bob: ClassLib, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null at Program.Main() So questions are: Why JIT does not inlined Foo and Bar calls as Baz does? They are lower than 32 bytes of IL and are good candidates for inlining. Why JIT inlined call of Bob and inner call of SomeSecurityCriticalMethod that is marked with the [MethodImpl(MethodImplOptions.NoInlining)] attribute? Why GetExecutingAssembly returns a valid assembly when is called by inlined Baz and SomeSecurityCriticalMethod methods? I've expect that it performs the stack walk to detect the executing assembly, but stack will contains only Program.Main() call and no methods of ClassLib assenbly, to ConsoleApp should be returned.

  • FluentNHibernate Many-To-One References where Foreign Key is not to Primary Key and column names are

    - by Todd Langdon
    I've been sitting here for an hour trying to figure this out... I've got 2 tables (abbreviated): CREATE TABLE TRUST ( TRUSTID NUMBER NOT NULL, ACCTNBR VARCHAR(25) NOT NULL ) CONSTRAINT TRUST_PK PRIMARY KEY (TRUSTID) CREATE TABLE ACCOUNTHISTORY ( ID NUMBER NOT NULL, ACCOUNTNUMBER VARCHAR(25) NOT NULL, TRANSAMT NUMBER(38,2) NOT NULL POSTINGDATE DATE NOT NULL ) CONSTRAINT ACCOUNTHISTORY_PK PRIMARY KEY (ID) I have 2 classes that essentially mirror these: public class Trust { public virtual int Id {get; set;} public virtual string AccountNumber { get; set; } } public class AccountHistory { public virtual int Id { get; set; } public virtual Trust Trust {get; set;} public virtual DateTime PostingDate { get; set; } public virtual decimal IncomeAmount { get; set; } } How do I do the many-to-one mapping in FluentNHibernate to get the AccountHistory to have a Trust? Specifically, since it is related on a different column than the Trust primary key of TRUSTID and the column it is referencing is also named differently (ACCTNBR vs. ACCOUNTNUMBER)???? Here's what I have so far - how do I do the References on the AccountHistoryMap to Trust??? public class TrustMap : ClassMap<Trust> { public TrustMap() { Table("TRUST"); Id(x => x.Id).Column("TRUSTID"); Map(x => x.AccountNumber).Column("ACCTNBR"); } } public class AccountHistoryMap : ClassMap<AccountHistory> { public AccountHistoryMap() { Table("TRUSTACCTGHISTORY"); Id (x=>x.Id).Column("ID"); References<Trust>(x => x.Trust).Column("ACCOUNTNUMBER").ForeignKey("ACCTNBR").Fetch.Join(); Map(x => x.PostingDate).Column("POSTINGDATE"); ); I've tried a few different variations of the above line but can't get anything to work - it pulls back AccountHistory data and a proxy for the Trust; however it says no Trust row with given identifier. This has to be something simple. Anyone? Thanks in advance.

  • How to use correctly the Query Window in SQL Server 2008

    - by Richard77
    Hello, What should I do to avoid that commands be executed each time I hit 'Execute !. icon' I mean this USE master; GO CREATE DATABASE Sales GO USE Sales; GO CREATE TABLE Customers( CustomerID int NOT NULL, LName varchar (50) NOT NULL, FName varchar (50) NULL, Status varchar (10), ModifiedBy varchar (30) NULL ) GO When I click Execute!, Sql Server tries to redo the same thing. What I do for now is to delete the Query Window completely then write what I need before clicking the Execute icon. But, I doubt that I should be doing that. What can I do to keep writing the commands without having each time to clear the Query Window? Thanks for helping

  • NHibernate HQL logic problem

    - by Jon
    Hi I'm trying to write an NHibernate HQL query that makes use of parenthesis in the where clause. However, the HQL parser seems to be ignoring my parenthesis, thus changing the meaning of my statement. Can anyone shed any light on the matter? The following HQL query: from WebUser u left join fetch u.WebUserProfile left join fetch u.CommunicationPreferences where (u.CommunicationPreferences.Email = 0 and u.SyncDate is not null) or u.DateDeleted is not null translates to: from WebUser webuser0_ left outer join WebUserProfile webuserpro1_ on webuser0_.UserId = webuserpro1_.WebUserId left outer join WebUserCommunicationPreferences communicat2_ on webuser0_.UserId = communicat2_.UserId where communicat2_.Email = 0 and (webuser0_.SyncDate is not null) or webuser0_.DateDeleted is not null Thanks Jon
