• Can't install Oracle J2EE due to "An internal Error has occurred"

  I am trying to install Oracle JavaEE 6 SDK with Glassfish on Ubuntu 12.04 with Java SDK 7. I have downloaded java_ee_sdk-6u4-jdk7-linux-x64.sh already, but when I run it on terminal, the wizard appears, and after few steps, I get an Error Message Dialog: An internal Error has occurred. Please contact your system administrator... null. And, the terminal is showing something like WARNING: Could not process a navigation event for command=AC_NEXT [Command=AC_NEXT Error=null ] What can I do? How can I install J2EE/Glassfish under linux x64?

• JSR Updates - Multiple JSRs migrate to latest JCP version

  As part of the JCP.Next reform effort, many JSRs have migrated to the latest version of the JCP program in the last month.  These JSRs' Spec Leads and Expert Groups are contributing to the strides the JCP has been making to enable greater community transparency, participation and agility to the working of the JSR development through the JCP program. Any other JSR Spec Leads interested in migrating to the latest JCP version, now JCP 2.9, as of 13 November, incorporating the Merged Executive Committee (EC), see the Spec Lead Guide for instructions on migrating to the latest JCP version.  For JCP 2.8 JSRs, you are effectively already operating under JCP 2.9 since there are no longer two ECs.  This is the difference for JCP 2.8 JSRs migrating to JCP 2.9 -- a merged EC.  To make the migration official, just inform your Expert Group on a public channel and email your request to admin at jcp.org. • Problem installing Oracle 10g Express edition

  I have installed Oracle 10g Express edition in Ubuntu 10.10 and it doesn't show or ask to give my password during installation. When I click on "start database" it gave the warning "Operation failed, abhi is not a member of 'dba' group." and when clink on "Run SQL command line" it shows /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin/nls_lang.sh: 114: [[: not found When I click on "GOTO Database home page", it opens Mozilla's "Ubuntu Google search page". Can anyone help me get my Oracle to work or tell me how to remove that because it is also not getting removed. I tried all the commands that are given as suggestions by Ubuntu. Please help me because I don't want to format my Ubuntu.

• Outlook - Sychronise contacts from exchange

  Hi, At work the exchange server has details of all employees in the system. Then there is the Contacts folder in Outlook. I can populate this with all staff, but, I want to synchronise it against all staff (occasionally) removing people who in are in my local contacts, but not in the Exchange server (leavers) and importing changes/updates/new staff from the exchange server. However, I also have some personal contacts (family members etc) locally that I want to exclude from that. This is to enable synching to my smartphone better. Any suggestions? Regards, Michael

• SOA Suite 11g: Unable to start domain (Error occurred during initialization of VM)

  If you have recently installed SOA Suite, created a domain and then tried to start it only to find it fails with the error: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. the solution is to edit the file <domain home>\bin\setSOADomainEnv.cmd/sh (depending on your platform) and modify the line: set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms512m -Xmx1024m to something like: set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms512m -Xmx768m Save the file and then try to start your domain again.   Following my last posts on Change Data Capture and Change Tracking, here is another tip regarding tracking changes: table and colum checksums. The concept is: each time a column value changes, the checksum also changes. You can use this simple method to see if a table has changed very easily, however, beware, different column values may generate the same checksum.   To enable capture traffic on multiple interfaces at once, I tried to install wireshark 1.8.3. • VPN disconnected: resolv.conf not refreshed

  I connect to VPN using vpnc. When VPN disconnects, either via time out or the session limit is reached, VPN is terminated, but resolve.conf continues to contain references to my VPN network. resolv.conf before VPN is connected: nameserver 127.0.0.1 search mylocalnetwork resolv.conf after VPN is connected and remains once VPN is lost: nameserver X.X.X.X nameserver X.X.X.Z nameserver 127.0.0.1 search internal.mycompany.com mylocalnetwork In 10.04, when VPN lost, I'd run this script to refresh resolve.conf: 7$ cat bin/refreshResolvconf.sh #!/bin/bash #if [ -e /etc/resolvconf/run/interface/tun0 -a "`pidof vpnc`" == "" ]; then /sbin/resolvconf -d tun0; fi if [ -e /etc/resolvconf/run/interface/tun0 -a "`pidof vpnc`" == "" ] then /sbin/resolvconf -d tun0; echo "Refreshed resolv.conf" fi But, resolveconf changed in 12.04 changed, so this script is no longer applicable. To resolve, I manually edit resolve.conf or turn off/on my connection via "gnome-control-center network". Anyone else have the same problem? How can resolv.conf be updated post-VPN disconnect?

• IE does not send NTLM domain

  Hi! I have a problem with NTLM single-sign-on with IE8. We've got multiple domain controllers and users from multiple domains that we try to authenticate to a web application via NTLMv1 passthru. Somehow IE fails to send the user's domain in the NTLM Type 1 message. This has the effect that the webapp can not match users properly to their domain controllers, resulting in failed logon attempts, because a user from domain X tries to authenticate to domain controller Y. This problem does not occur with Firefox, as it always sends the correct domain header. So: how do I get IE to send the domain in the NTLM header? Grateful for any help, Michael

• Execure a random command from .txt file?

  I have a Ubuntu server, and I'm trying to print a Twitter quote using the app "twidge". So I made a list of tweets on a .txt file. I want to print one tweet (per line) from that file and send it to Twitter via twidge (or what ever other method was possible). I can print a random phrase with shuf: shuf -n 1 /var/www/tweets.txt and it works. It sends me back one of the tweets, but, it does not send it to Twitter, even if the "in line" phrase is a command. i.e: twidge update "bla bla bla" It just prints on the screen, but don't send it to Twitter. I tried turning the .txt to .sh, but don't work... any idea? by the way, i want to use it with crontab, something like this: 15 * * * * shuf -n 1 /var/www/tweets.txt

• Why can't I get a working session with vnc4server

  We have a couple of (identical) Ubuntu 11.10 machines, configured with gnome-classic, which we use as remote servers, and let our clients log into personal user accounts we create for them using vnc4server. We configured all the machines in the same way, following a short manual we compiled, describing how to download, install and prepare a few tools and our software. The connection usually works fine, but today I set up a fresh machine, and experienced problems. After installing vnc4server, I ran vncpasswd and copied the following startup file to ~/.vnc/xstartup: #!/bin/sh unset SESSION_MANAGER unset DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS gnome-session --session=gnome-classic & [ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup [ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources xsetroot -solid grey vncconfig -iconic & Then, I started vnc4server and used two viewers (the Ubuntu Remote Desktop Viewer and Windows RealVNC Client) in two other machines, but instead of getting my desktop, I see an empty window with a grey-ish background pattern like this: and the cursor is a bold X. What is wrong with the setup and why don't I get a remote session as expected?

I try to perform ./autogen.sh .   Well I have installed avast anti virus on Ubuntu 12.04. But after updating, it crashes! So I have made some tweaks like below: 1) I pressed press Ctrl+Alt+T and opened Terminal. When it opened, I ran the command below. sudo gedit /etc/init.d/rcS 2) typed my password and hit enter 3) when the text file opens add the line: sysctl -w kernel.shmmax=128000000 4) made sure the line you added is before: exec /etc/init.d/rc S 5) This is how it should look like: Code: #! /bin/sh # rcS # # Call all S??* scripts in /etc/rcS.d/ in numerical/alphabetical order # sysctl -w kernel.shmmax=128000000 exec /etc/init.d/rc S 6) save it 7) Reboot My question is. Did I do anything wrong. I mean as I have made some tweaks,will it lower the security of avast down like viruses do! Please if you are a programmer check this if it contains bug or harmful intentions...Thanks.

• Audio Stutter in in ubuntu 12.04

  After upgrading to precise my audio is stuttering. It is happening, in VLC, mplayer, and anything streaming from the internet. I followed the procedures in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure but nothing has helped so far. There is the problem that the driver version is out of date but it does not seem to want to update with the given commands. $ bash alsa-info.sh --stdout |grep version Driver version: 1.0.24 Library version: 1.0.25 Utilities version: 1.0.25 How can I upgrade the driver and fix the stuttering?

• MAAS fails to Commission nodes

  I'm evaluating MaaS/Juju. I followed instructions in this link http://maas.ubuntu.com/docs1.5/install.html to setup MaaS. I'm running this in Oracle VirtualBox environment so Power options are not configured for the VMs. PXE booting VM works fine. The node shuts down itself and registers with MaaS in Declared state. Issues: a) When I Commission the VM (which is in the Declared state), first it gets IP-Config: no response after 60 secs - giving up errors. (See link below for a screenshot). b) Fails to mount the boot device and drops into initramfs prompt. • Happy Tau Day! (Or: How Some Mathematicians Think We Should Retire Pi) [Video]

  When you were in school you learned all about Pi and its relationship to circles and turn-based geometry. Some mathematicians are rallying for a new lesson, on about Tau. Michael Hartl is a mathematician on a mission, a mission to get people away from using Pi and to start using Tau. His manifesto opens: Welcome to The Tau Manifesto. This manifesto is dedicated to one of the most important numbers in mathematics, perhaps the most important: the circle constant relating the circumference of a circle to its linear dimension. For millennia, the circle has been considered the most perfect of shapes, and the circle constant captures the geometry of the circle in a single number. Of course, the traditional choice of circle constant is p—but, as mathematician Bob Palais notes in his delightful article “p Is Wrong!”,1 p is wrong. It’s time to set things right. Why is Pi wrong? Among the arguments is that Tau is the ration of a circumference to the radius of a circle and defining circles by their radius is more natural and that Pi is a 2-factor number but with Tau everything is based of a single unit–three quarters of a turn around a Tau-defined circle is simply three quarters of a Tau radian. The reason is very simple: we feel that Birmingham needs a fresh start. We are both very passionate about .NET and are hoping to share our experiences with the community. • How can I schedule execution of a program?

  Let's say I have a small "Hello World" Java program compiled in my home directory. I can run it with java helloWorld from my home directory and it executes without any problem. Now I need to schedule to execute this program let's say after 10mins from now. So, I am executing following commands on console: at now+10min warning: commands will be executed using /bin/sh at> java helloWorld Press CTRL+D to finish So it is scheduled properly as I can see it with at -l command. But at this time nothing happens. Why? What is wrong with it? Because, if instead of scheduling the execution my own program I schedule executing of gedit command it opens it at a specified time. But with my own program it doesn't perform anything. How can I change the situation?

And we've heard from the likes of: "Uncle Bob" Martin - Who warned us about "the consequences of making a mess". Michael C. Feathers - Who gave us guidance for 'Working Effectively With Legacy Code'. So certainly the software engineering community is aware of these issues. But I feel like our aggregate society does not appreciate how these issues can plague working systems and applications. As Steve McConnell notes: ...Unlike financial debt, technical debt is much less visible, and so people have an easier time ignoring it. If this is true, and I believe that it is, then I fear that governments and businesses may defer regular maintenance and fortification against hackers until it is too late. [Much like NYC and the steam pipes.] My Question: Is there a way that we can avoid the software equivalent of NYC and the steam pipes?

• Force users to access SSL site using specific host header

  Hi, So i am running IIS7 with one SSL site on it. I have a few different domains and subdomains that all point to my external IP. When using http they all direct to their respective sites using host headers. Whenever someone uses https on any of the domains they all point to my SSL site. I only want people who type in https://sub.domain.com (for example) to end up at my secure site and for anything else to just not go there, it can throw an error or direct to the http version, it doesn't matter. Is there a way of getting IIS7 to check the host header and throw an error if it doesn't match my specific subdomain? Thanks, Michael
