  • Data Structure for Small Number of Agents in a Relatively Big 2D World

    - by Seçkin Savasçi
I'm working on a project where we will implement a kind of world simulation where there is a square 2D world. Agents live on this world and make decisions like moving or replicating themselves based on their neighbor cells(world=grid) and some extra parameters(which are not based on the state of the world). I'm looking for a data structure to implement such a project. My concerns are : I will implement this 3 times: sequential, using OpenMP, using MPI. So if I can use the same structure that will be quite good. The first thing comes up is keeping a 2D array for the world and storing agent references in it. And simulate the world for each time slice by checking every cell in each iteration and further processing if an agents is found in the cell. The downside is what if I have 1000x1000 world and only 5 agents in it. It will be an overkill for both sequential and parallel versions to check each cell and look for possible agents in them. I can use quadtree and store agents in it, but then how can I get the information about neighbor cells then? Please let me know if I should elaborate more.

  • Java JRE 7 Automatic Upgrade and Demantra Requirements - Action Required

    - by user702295
The following applies to ALL Demantra, EBS and Demantra Oracle Integrations: All EBS desktop administrators must disable JRE Auto-Update for their end-users immediately. See this externally-published article:     URGENT BULLETIN: Disable JRE Auto-Update for All E-Business Suite End-Users     https://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/entry/bulletin_disable_jre_auto_update Why is this required? If you have Auto-Update enabled, your JRE 1.6 version will be updated to JRE 7.     This may happen as early as July 3, 2012.     This will definitely happen after Sept. 7, 2012, after the release of 1.6.0_35 (6u35).  Oracle Forms is not compatible with JRE 7 yet.  JRE 7 has not been certified with Oracle E-Business Suite yet. Oracle E-Business Suite functionality based on Forms -- e.g. Financials -- will stop working if you upgrade to JRE 7. Related News Java 1.6.0_33 is certified with Oracle E-Business Suite.  See this externally-published article:     Java JRE 1.6.0_33 Certified with Oracle E-Business Suite     https://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/entry/jre_1_6_0_33

  • Ubuntu Tools for recovering data from damaged USB Flash Drive ~ 10 Gb

    - by PREDA LUCIAN
I have technical issues with my USB Flash Drive - JetFlash®V15 (TS16GJFV15) It's very critical situation because I can not see the data from it and I should get a way to recover them ASAP. So, in general, I have connected Non-stop that USB Flash Disk at my laptop. Was appear Power surges and when I was coming back, I saw that problem with it. Details regarding JetFlash®V15 (in present): - when I connect it on USP slot, the led is working intermittent and later on remain with constant light. - if I inspect the computer drivers, I found "Generic USB Flash Disk" (when the stick it's connected). - if I inspect "Properties", I can see next details: --- Type: unknown (application/octet-stream) --- Size: unknown --- Volume: unknown --- Accessed: unknown --- Modified: unknown I inspected that stick on 2 different computers (as well in different different USB Ports) and was the same problem, I can not see the content. I was checking with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04 OS, but without success. With both OS was working before this issue. I'll appreciate an answer which will solve the problem, not an answer which will certify the problem. What I have to do, to recover the information form it (nearly 10 Gb)? I'm looking forward to be guided from a technical expert.

  • SQL to XML open data made simple

    - by drrwebber
The perennial question for people is how to easily generate XML from SQL table content?  The latest CAM Editor release really tackles this head on by providing a powerful and simple toolset.  Firstly you can visually browse your SQL tables and then drag and drop from columns and tables into the XML structure editor.   This gives you a code-free method of describing the transformation you require.  So you do not need to know about the vagaries of XML and XSD schema syntax. Second you can map directly into existing industry domain XML exchange structures in the XML visual editor, again no need to wrestle with XSD schema, you have WYSIWYG visual control over what your output will look like. If you do not have a target XML structure and need to build one from scratch, then the CAM Editor makes this simple.  Switch the SQL viewer into designer mode, then take your existing SQL table and drag and drop it into the XML structure editor.  Automatically the XML wizard tool will take your SQL column names and definitions and create equivalent XML for you and insert the mappings. Simply save the structure template, and run the Open Data generator menu option, and your XML is built for you. Completely code-free template driven development. To see this in action, see our video demonstration links and then download the tools and samples and try it yourself.

  • How much information can you mine out of a name?

    - by Finglas Fjorn
While not directly related to programming, I figured that the programmers on here would be just as curious as I was about this question. Feel free to close the question if it does not meet with the guidelines. A name: first, possibly a middle, and surname. I'm curious about how much information you can mine out of a name, using publicly available datasets. I know that you can get the following with anywhere between a low-high probability (depending on the input) using US census data: 1) Gender. 2) Race. Facebook for instance, used exactly that to find out, with a decent level of accuracy, the racial distribution of users of their site (https://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=205925658858). What else can be mined? I'm not looking for anything specific, this is a very open-ended question to assuage my curiousity. My examples are US specific, so we'll assume that the name is the name of someone located in the US; but, if someone knows of publicly available datasets for other countries, I'm more than open to them too. I hope this is an interesting question!

  • Data structure for grid with negative indeces

    - by The Secret Imbecile
Sorry if this is an insultingly obvious concept, but it's something I haven't done before and I've been unable to find any material discussing the best way to approach it. I'm wondering what's the best data structure for holding a 2D grid of unknown size. The grid has integer coordinates (x,y), and will have negative indices in both directions. So, what is the best way to hold this grid? I'm programming in c# currently, so I can't have negative array indices. My initial thought was to have class with 4 separate arrays for (+x,+y),(+x,-y),(-x,+y), and (-x,-y). This seems to be a valid way to implement the grid, but it does seem like I'm over-engineering the solution, and array resizing will be a headache. Another idea was to keep track of the center-point of the array and set that as the topological (0,0), however I would have the issue of having to do a shift to every element of the grid when repeatedly adding to the top-left of the grid, which would be similar to grid resizing though in all likelihood more frequent. Thoughts?

  • Data model for unlockable card collection

    - by Karlos Zafra
My game has a collection of cards (about 64) that are unlocked (one by one) provided that 4 items are collected/gained in the game. Right now the deck of cards is modeled with a plist file, like this: <plist> <dict> <key>card1</key> <dict> <key>available</key> <true/> <key>series</key> <integer>1</integer> <key>model</key> <integer>1</integer> <key>color</key> <integer>1</integer> </dict> <key>card2</key> <dict> <key>available</key> <false/> <key>series</key> <integer>1</integer> <key>model</key> <integer>1</integer> <key>color</key> <integer>2</integer> </dict> The value for the key named "available" marks if the item is locked or not. Right now I have to include the data for the items collected by the user, but including that inside the plist looks like too much hassle. What kind of structure should be more suitable for this? How do you manage a collection of unlockable items like this?

  • subsonic.migrations and Oracle XE

    - by andrecarlucci
Hello, Probably I'm doing something wrong but here it goes: I'm trying to create a database using subsonic.migrations in an OracleXE version 10.2.0.1.0. I have ODP v 10.2.0.2.20 installed. This is my app.config: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <configSections> <section name="SubSonicService" type="SubSonic.SubSonicSection, SubSonic" requirePermission="false"/> </configSections> <connectionStrings> <add name="test" connectionString="Data Source=XE; User Id=test; Password=test;"/> </connectionStrings> <SubSonicService defaultProvider="test"> <providers> <clear/> <add name="test" type="SubSonic.OracleDataProvider, SubSonic" connectionStringName="test" generatedNamespace="testdb"/> </providers> </SubSonicService> </configuration> And that's my first migration: public class Migration001_Init : Migration { public override void Up() { //Create the records table TableSchema.Table records = CreateTable("asdf"); records.AddColumn("RecordName"); } public override void Down() { DropTable("asdf"); } } When I run the sonic.exe, I get this exception: Setting ConfigPath: 'App.config' Building configuration from D:\Users\carlucci\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\Wum\Wum.Migration\App.config Adding connection to test ERROR: Trying to execute migrate Error Message: System.Data.OracleClient.OracleException: ORA-02253: especifica‡Æo de restri‡Æo nÆo permitida aqui at System.Data.OracleClient.OracleConnection.CheckError(OciErrorHandle errorHandle, Int32 rc) at System.Data.OracleClient.OracleCommand.Execute(OciStatementHandle statementHandle, CommandBehavior behavior, Boolean needRowid, OciRowidDescriptor& rowidDescriptor, ArrayList& resultParameterOrdinals) at System.Data.OracleClient.OracleCommand.ExecuteNonQueryInternal(Boolean needRowid, OciRowidDescriptor& rowidDescriptor) at System.Data.OracleClient.OracleCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() at SubSonic.OracleDataProvider.ExecuteQuery(QueryCommand qry) in D:\@SubSonic\SubSonic\SubSonic\DataProviders\OracleDataProvider.cs:line 350 at SubSonic.DataService.ExecuteQuery(QueryCommand cmd) in D:\@SubSonic\SubSonic\SubSonic\DataProviders\DataService.cs:line 544 at SubSonic.Migrations.Migrator.CreateSchemaInfo(String providerName) in D:\@SubSonic\SubSonic\SubSonic.Migrations\Migrator.cs:line 249 at SubSonic.Migrations.Migrator.GetCurrentVersion(String providerName) in D:\@SubSonic\SubSonic\SubSonic.Migrations\Migrator.cs:line 232 at SubSonic.Migrations.Migrator.Migrate(String providerName, String migrationDirectory, Nullable`1 toVersion) in D:\@SubSonic\SubSonic\SubSonic.Migrations\Migrator.cs:line 50 at SubSonic.SubCommander.Program.Migrate() in D:\@SubSonic\SubSonic\SubCommander\Program.cs:line 264 at SubSonic.SubCommander.Program.Main(String[] args) in D:\@SubSonic\SubSonic\SubCommander\Program.cs:line 90 Execution Time: 379ms What am I doing wrong? Thanks a lot for any help :) Andre Carlucci UPDATE: As pointed by Anton, the problem is the subsonic OracleSqlGenerator. It is trying to create the schema table using this sql: CREATE TABLE SubSonicSchemaInfo ( version int NOT NULL CONSTRAINT DF_SubSonicSchemaInfo_version DEFAULT (0) ) Which doesn't work on oracle. The correct sql would be: CREATE TABLE SubSonicSchemaInfo ( version int DEFAULT (0), constraint DF_SubSonicSchemaInfo_version primary key (version) ) The funny thing is that since this is the very first sql executed by subsonic migrations, NOBODY EVER TESTED it on oracle.

  • Wozu eigentlich Oracle Linux?

    - by Manuel Hossfeld
Sie trägt den Titel: "Oracle Linux Takes Its Place in the Operating Systems Market". • Big Data – Interacting with Hadoop – What is PIG? – What is PIG Latin? – Day 16 of 21

    - by Pinal Dave
In yesterday’s blog post we learned the importance of the HIVE in Big Data Story. In this article we will understand what is PIG and PIG Latin in Big Data Story. Yahoo started working on Pig for their application deployment on Hadoop. The goal of Yahoo to manage their unstructured data. What is Pig and What is Pig Latin? Pig is a high level platform for creating MapReduce programs used with Hadoop and the language we use for this platform is called PIG Latin. The pig was designed to make Hadoop more user-friendly and approachable by power-users and nondevelopers. PIG is an interactive execution environment supporting Pig Latin language. The language Pig Latin has supported loading and processing of input data with series of transforming to produce desired results. PIG has two different execution environments 1) Local Mode – In this case all the scripts run on a single machine. 2) Hadoop – In this case all the scripts run on Hadoop Cluster. Pig Latin vs SQL Pig essentially creates set of map and reduce jobs under the hoods. Due to same users does not have to now write, compile and build solution for Big Data. The pig is very similar to SQL in many ways. The Ping Latin language provide an abstraction layer over the data. It focuses on the data and not the structure under the hood. Pig Latin is a very powerful language and it can do various operations like loading and storing data, streaming data, filtering data as well various data operations related to strings. The major difference between SQL and Pig Latin is that PIG is procedural and SQL is declarative. In simpler words, Pig Latin is very similar to SQ Lexecution plan and that makes it much easier for programmers to build various processes. Whereas SQL handles trees naturally, Pig Latin follows directed acyclic graph (DAG). DAGs is used to model several different kinds of structures in mathematics and computer science. DAG Tomorrow In tomorrow’s blog post we will discuss about very important components of the Big Data Ecosystem – Zookeeper. • Oracle’s Web Experience Management

    - by Christie Flanagan
Today’s guest post on Oracle’s Web Experience Management comes from a member of our WebCenter Evangelist team, Noël Jaffré, a Principal Technologist based in France.Oracle’s Web Experience Management (WEM) solution enables organizations to optimize the online channel for driving marketing and customer experience management success. It empowers business users to manage the web presence and create rich and engaging online experiences for customers and prospects. Oracle's WEM platform provides a framework to simplify the integration of Oracle, third-party and custom-built applications. This framework essentially allows the creation and integration of applications using one single business interface called the WEM interface. It includes the following: Single sign-on access control for all integrated applications using the Central Authentication Service (CAS) component. A single centralized administration window for user, role, and native applications management including site management. Community server management, gadget server management as well as management for partner integrated technologies. A Representational State Transfer (REST) API for accessing WebCenter Sites data. REST services are supported on both Oracle WebCenter Sites and Oracle WebCenter Sites Satellite Server to leverage the satellite server cache. All REST requests are cached for web consuming applications as well for the high performance delivery of native applications on the mobile channel. Oracle WebCenter Sites’ Web Experience Management environment enables organizations to deliver a compelling online experience to customers by simplifying the deployment and management of sophisticated and engaging websites. The WebCenter Sites platform automates the entire process of managing web content including: Authoring:  Business users can easily contribute and manage web content in real-time, with intuitive interfaces and drag-and-drop content authoring and layout capabilities designed for the non-technical user. Contextual Content Targeting: Marketers are empowered to create and manage targeted campaigns with relevant recommendations and promotions based on the context of the session of the visitor such as his or her navigation history, user profile, language, location or other information shared during the visitor session. Content Publishing and Deployment: It offers advanced multi-site management capabilities for departmental or regional sites, as well as strong multi-lingual and multi-locale content management. The remote satellite server caching infrastructure provides high-performance, distributed caching, tuned to deliver high-volume, targeted and multi-lingual sites. Editors and marketers can immediately determine whether a given article or promotion is relevant to a particular customer segment. User-generated Content: Marketers can enable blogs, comments, rating and reviews on the website.  All comments and reviews posted to the website can be moderated from the administrator interface either manually or automatically using filters, whitelists, blacklists or community based moderation. Personalized Gadget Dashboards:  Site managers can deploy gadgets, small applications using web content, individually or as part of dashboards containing multiple gadgets.  These gadget dashboards enable site visitors to create their own “MyPage” on a given site where they can select and customize the gadgets that the site administrator has made available.  Any gadget that conforms to the iGoogle/OpenSocial standard can be made available to site visitors, or they can be created within the WEM interface. Oracle's WEM platform also provides a unique environment for the delivery of a rich, multichannel online experience for site visitors through its advanced management modules for mobile. With Oracle’s WEM solution, it’s easy to control branding and deliver a consistent message while repurposing web content for publication to mobile devices, kiosks and much more. This distinctive approach provides: HTML5 Delivery: HTML5 delivery which includes native support for adaptive design that responds to the user’s computer screen resolution and orientation. The approach is less driven by the particular hardware and more driven by the user’s interactions with the device. In other words, this approach takes both the screen interactions (either cursor or touch) and screen sizes and orientation into consideration. A Unique Native Mobile Extension Environment for Contributors: From the WEM interface, a contributor can directly manage their mobile channel, using the tooling already in place for driving the traditional web presence. This includes the mobile presentation, as well as mobile insite editing, drag and drop page layout, and in-context recommendations and personalization. Optimized REST APIs for High Performance Content Delivery on Native Mobile Device Applications: WebCenter Sites’ REST API uses the underlying HTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE) to interact with resources. Resources support two types of input and output formats -- XML and JSON. REST calls are customizable to optimize the interactions between the content repositories and the client applications. Caching is essential to decrease network loads and improve overall reliability and usability of the applications and user interactions. REST results are cached through the highly efficient Oracle WebCenter Sites caching architecture.
