  • My HTML5 web app crashes and I have no clue how to debug

    Hi All, I have written a word game using HTML5 canvas tag and a little bit of audio. I developed the application on the chrome web browser on a linux system. Recently during the testing phase it was tried on safari 5.0.3 on Mac and the webpage froze. Not just the canvas element, but interactive element on the page froze. I have at some times experienced this problem on google chrome when I was developing but since the console did not throw any error before this happened, I did not give it much credence. Now as per requirements I am supposed to support both chrome and safari but this dismal performance on safari has left me shocked and I cannot see what error can be thrown which might lead to such a situation. Worse yet the CPU usage on using this application peaks to 70-80percent on my 2yr old macbook running ubuntu... I can only but pity the person who uses mac to operate this app, which undoubtedly is a heavier OS. Could someone help me out with a place I can start with to find out what exactly is causing this issue. I have run profiles on this webapp on google chromes console and noticed that in the heap spanshot value increases steadily with the playing of the game, specifically (root) value which jumps up by 900 counts. Any help would be very appreciated! Thanks EDIT: I don't know if this helps, but I have noticed that even on refreshing the page after the app becomes unresponsive the page reloads and I am still not able to interact with the page elements but the tab scroll bar continues to work and I can see my application window completely. So to summaries the tab stops accepting any sort of user interaction inside the page. Edit2: Nop. It doesn't work still... The app crashes on double click on the canvas element. The console is not throwing any errors either! =/ I have noticed this problem is isolated only to safari!

  • Database PK-FK design for future-effective-date entries?

    Ultimately I'm going to convert this into a Hibernate/JPA design. But I wanted to start out from purely a database perspective. We have various tables containing data that is future-effective-dated. Take an employee table with the following pseudo-definition: employee id INT AUTO_INCREMENT ... data fields ... effectiveFrom DATE effectiveTo DATE employee_reviews id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_id INT FK employee.id Very simplistic. But let's say Employee A has id = 1, effectiveFrom = 1/1/2011, effectiveTo = 1/1/2099. That employee is going to be changing jobs in the future, which would in theory create a new row, id = 2 with effectiveFrom = 7/1/2011, effectiveTo = 1/1/2099, and id = 1's effectiveTo updated to 6/30/2011. But now, my program would have to go through any table that has a FK relationship to employee every night, and update those FK to reference the newly-effective employee entry. I have seen various postings in both pure SQL and Hibernate forums that I should have a separate employee_versions table, which is where I would have all effective-dated data stored, resulting in the updated pseudo-definition below: employee id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_versions id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_id INT FK employee.id ... data fields ... effectiveFrom DATE effectiveTo DATE employee_reviews id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_id INT FK employee.id Then to get any actual data, one would have to actually select from employee_versions with the proper employee_id and date range. This feels rather unnatural to have this secondary "versions" table for each versioned entity. Anyone have any opinions, suggestions from your own prior work, etc? Like I said, I'm taking this purely from a general SQL design standpoint first before layering in Hibernate on top. Thanks!

But I want to have "new messages" being saved in my XcurrentMsg / Cache. Now if I do not cut this part out, my Application gets awesome crazy.     I wish to have two threads. The first thread1 occasionally calls the following pseudo function: void waitForThread2() { if (thread2 is not idle) { return; } notifyThread2IamReady(); while (thread2IsExclusive) { } } The second thread2 is forever in the following pseudo loop: for (;;) { Notify thread1 I am idle. while (!thread1IsReady()) { } Notify thread1 I am exclusive. Do some work while thread1 is blocked. Notify thread1 I am busy. Do some work in parallel with thread1. } What is the best way to write this such that both thread1 and thread2 are kept as busy as possible on a machine with multiple cores. I would like to avoid long delays between notification in one thread and detection by the other. I tried using pthread condition variables but found the delay between thread2 doing 'notify thread1 I am busy' and the loop in waitForThread2() on thear2IsExclusive() can be up to almost one second delay. I then tried using a volatile sig_atomic_t shared variable to control the same, but something is going wrong, so I must not be doing it correctly.

  • Querying for a unique value based on the aggregate of another value while grouping on a third value

    So I know this problem isn't a new one, but I'm trying to wrap my head around it and understand the best way to deal with scenarios like this. Say I have a hypothetical table 'X' that looks like this: GroupID ID (identity) SomeDateTime -------------------------------------------- 1 1000 1/1/01 1 1001 2/2/02 1 1002 3/3/03 2 1003 4/4/04 2 1004 5/5/05 I want to query it so the result set looks like this: ---------------------------------------- 1 1002 3/3/03 2 1004 5/5/05 Basically what I want is the MAX SomeDateTime value grouped by my GroupID column. The kicker is that I DON'T want to group by the ID column, I just want to know the 'ID' that corresponds to the MAX SomeDateTime. I know one pseudo-solution would be: ;WITH X1 as ( SELECT MAX(SomeDateTime) as SomeDateTime, GroupID FROM X GROUP BY GroupID ) SELECT X1.SomeDateTime, X1.GroupID, X2.ID FROM X1 INNER JOIN X as X2 ON X.DateTime = X2.DateTime But this doesn't solve the fact that a DateTime might not be unique. And it seems sloppy to join on a DateTime like that. Another pseudo-solution could be: SELECT X.GroupID, MAX(X.ID) as ID, MAX(X.SomeDateTime) as SomeDateTime FROM X GROUP BY X.GroupID But there are no guarantees that ID will actually match the row that SomeDateTime comes from. A third less useful option might be: SELECT TOP 1 X.GroupID, X.ID, X.SomeDateTime FROM X WHERE X.GroupID = 1 ORDER BY X.SomeDateTime DESC But obviously that only works with a single, known, GroupID. I want to be able to join this result set on GroupID and/or ID. Does anyone know of any clever solutions? Any good uses of windowing functions? Thanks!

  • JQuery ajax success help

    Hi all, I am implementing a "Quick delete" function into a page I am creating. The way it works is like this: 1: You click the "delete" button in the table row for the record that you want to delete. 2: The page sends a request to the ajax page and return a successfully message of "yes" or a failure message of "no". My issue is that if I get a successful message of "yes" I want to hide the row for that record. I am having issue "finding" the row using JQuery.     This is something that has been bugging me some time and every time I found myself using different solution for this. So, I have link in my document which on click creates new element with some ID. <a href="#" id="test-link">Link</a> For the purpose of easier reusing, I would like to store that new elements ID in a variable which is jQuery object var test = $('#test'); On click I append that new element on body, new element is DIV $('body').append('<div id="test"/>'); And here goes the main "problem" - if I test this new elements length with test.length it first returns 0 and later 1. But, when I test it with $('#test').length it returns 1 from the start. I suppose it is some caching mechanism and I was wondering is there better, all-around solution which will allow to store elements in variables in the start for later repurpose and in the same time work with dynamically created elements. Live, delegate, something else? What I do sometimes is create string and add it to jQuery object but I think this is just avoiding the real issue. Also, using .find() inside another jQuery object. Using JQuery: 1.4.1. Having seen other examples online, I can't see what the difference should be. Feel free to test it in FireBug at (http://www.initiat.de/tests/testform/).     I've got a Fedora LAMP server on Amazon EC2 functioning as a HTTP pseudo-proxy (Sorry, don't know the terminology- It's not a true proxy where requests are relayed through apache, rather client requests are being translated by a PHP script, which then sends a new request.) I'd like to be able to fully log the HTTP cycle CLIENT - PROXY PROXY - SERVICE SERVICE - PROXY PROXY - CLIENT I'm hoping to do this using BASH tools- thinking netcat? Looking for advice and examples.     All of the Windows 7 64-bit Enterprise machines in my organization are failing to install a good number of printer drivers that previously installed without issue. This only happens with printer drivers. And not with all printer drivers. Just some. Network drivers, video drivers, etc. have had no problems. The error that appears in Device Manager is "The driver cannot be installed because it is either not digitally signed or not signed in the appropriate manner." It appears to be signed fine though. It has an accompanying .CAT file and worked previously. If I take it off the domain, it installs fine. But it doesn't seem to have anything to do with Group Policy. I moved the machine to an OU that blocks inheritance, ran a gpupdate, ran rsop.msc to verify, and tried again. And it still didn't work. Likewise, I removed a machine from the domain, manually set all of the domain Group Policy settings in gpedit.msc, and tried that way, and it worked fine. So it seems like the Group Policy settings are irrelevant. What other domain-related issue could be causing this though? Any ideas on what to try next would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure where to go from here. Thanks!

ReadyToStart Not Ready for Start I want to find the first Status that is not "OK". I have attempted this: =Match("<>""OK""", StatusRange, 0) which is supposed to return the index of the first element in the range that is NOT-EQUAL (<) to "OK" But this doesn't work, instead returning #N/A. I expect it to return 4 (index #4, in a 1-based index, representing that CheckedIn is the first non-OK element) Any ideas how to do this?

The usual config: own_window yes own_window_type normal # (desktop, override) - I have the same result for all this attributes own_window_transparent yes own_window_hints undecorated,below,skip_taskbar,sticky,skip_pager Is giving me Conky with (pseudo)transparent background in front of icons (they are completely hidden behind it, even if in background of Conky is shown background image), while I am trying achieve opposite... My system: SuSE 11.4 KDE 4.4 (Release 3) x86_64

    When I run something like: $ konsole -e "sleep 30" I get this message Konsole is unable to open a PTY (pseudo teletype). It is likely that this is due to an incorrect configuration of the PTY devices. Konsole needs to have read/write access to the PTY devices. But if I try to run this: $ gnome-terminal -e "sleep 30" Then it is fine, and it does not throw any error. How can I change the read/write access of the Konsole to the PTY devices?

  • Multiple Selections from Dropdown in Word 2011 Form

    Anyone know if there is a way to setup a Word form to allow the user to select multiple items from a dropdown list that are then displayed? For example, I need to setup a form to identify applicability of specific procedures to various levels of our organization. Since the listing of all departments under all divisions can be pretty lengthy, I was hoping for the ability to check off a division and then have a dropdown list on the same line to select the applicable departments (so the selections are specific to that division and not all listed on the form if that division is not applicable). First, I'm not seeing how to create a dropdown that would allow multiple selections. Beyond that, I don't know if that form element alone would then display all selected items or if that would require another element of some type. Anyone have any suggestions on this?
