Adding IP address to OpenVZ VPS (OpenVZ Web Panel)

I apologise if I sound at all dumb. This is my first dedicated server having used a VPS for over a year and I'm trying to setup a VPS on this new server. I purchased a subnet from my hosting provider that I believe allows me 6 usable IP addresses: 177.xx.xxx.201 - 177.xx.xxx.206 The subnet address looks like this: 177.xx.xxx.200/29. I've gone on my server and added them like it said on a wiki like so: ip addr add 177.**.***.201/29 dev eth0 I done that for all six and now when I go to them in the browser they point to my server. The problem is, I'm using OpenVZ web panel to create VMs (http://code.google.com/p/ovz-web-panel/) so I created a VM and assigned one of those IPs to it. However when SSHing to that IP it SSH's to the dedicated server and not the VM. Am I missing something?

How handle nifty initialization in a Slick2D state based game?

I'm using Slick2D and Nifty GUI. I decided to use a state based approach for my game and since i want to use Nifty GUI, i use the classes NiftyStateBasedGame for the main and NiftyOverlayBasicGameState for the states. As the description say, i'm suppose to initialize the GUI in the method initGameAndGUI on my states, no problem: @Override protected void initGameAndGUI(GameContainer gc, StateBasedGame sbg) throws SlickException { initNifty(gc, sbg) } It works great when i have only one state but if i'm doing a call to initNifty several times from different states, it will raise the following exception: org.bushe.swing.event.EventServiceExistsException: An event service by the name NiftyEventBusalready exists. accessing a web server from the LAN and WAN

My router does not support loopback. In order to view a webpage on my server, I either have to type in the local ip (192.168.1.201), or be on another network. What are my options for making this easier? Here are some possible things: Route all web traffic through an external proxy (seems to be overkill) Run my own DNS server (where to start?!) Buy a new router that supports loopback. Surely there is another way that I can use my laptop on the LAN and the WAN by typing in my domain more easily than these solutions.

Nginx access log shows authenticated user "admin"

I came across a line in my Nginx access log: 218.201.121.99 - admin [12/Dec/2012:18:33:18 +0800] "GET /manager/html HTTP/1.1" 444 0 "-" "-" Let me stress that there is only 1 record with this IP. Notice the authenticated user admin. After some googling, I was able to find out only that this is authenticated user (http://wiki.nginx.org/HttpCoreModule#.24remote_user), which was authenticated by the Auth Basic Module (http://wiki.nginx.org/HttpAuthBasicModule). However, nowhere in my site (configuration) do I use HTTP basic authentication. What is going on? How did it get there? Was the user authenticated?

Starting Spring Lineup

This morning I finished removing all VS2008 related frameworks and installed items related to VS2010 based on posts around the community. Here’s what I started with on my dev laptop, the config for my laptop: HP Pavilion dv6 Win7 64-bit 4Gb RAM Installed Developer Tools and Frameworks: Sync 2.0 SDK Visual Studio 2010 Pex Power Tools Enterprise Library 5.0 SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition Visual Studio 2008 Ultimate Expression Blend 4 RC Team Foundation Server 2010 Team Foundation Server 2010 SDK The only item I did not reinstall on top of VS2010 was ReSharper 4.5 only because I read mixed reviews on the dev experience. At this point I really just want to get use to the new(er) IDEs without adding any confusion to my dev machine. I’ll level off my desire for early adoption at Blend, EntLib 5.0, and Pex - I’m also interested in the Moles integration as well. Something else I didn’t have to install was my IDE theme which was left behind in my user folder was merged during installation – afterwards it was nice to see once the dust settled.

24 Hours of PASS scheduling

I have a new appreciation for Tom LaRock (@sqlrockstar), who is doing a tremendous job leading the organising committee for the 24 Hours of PASS event (Twitter: #24hop). We’ve just been going through the list of speakers and their preferences for time slots, and hopefully we’ve kept everyone fairly happy. All the submitted sessions (59 of them) were put up for a vote, and over a thousand of you picking your favourites. The top 28 sessions as voted were all included (24 sessions plus 4 reserves), and duplicates (when a single presenter had two sessions in the top 28) were swapped out for others. For example, both sessions submitted by Cindy Gross were in the top 28. These swaps were chosen by the committee to get a good balance of topics. Amazingly, some big names missed out, and even the top ten included some surprises. T-SQL, Indexes and Reporting featured well in the top ten, and in the end, the mix between BI, Dev and DBA ended up quite nicely too. Cannot connect to secure wireless with Netgear wna3100 USB

I have installed Ubuntu 11.10. I used a wired connection to download and install all of the updates. When I tried to use a Netgear WNA3100 wireless USB network adapter, it failed. Much searching and trying things I was finally able to get it working by disabling security on my router. I have verified this by disabling security and I was able to connect. When I enabled security (WPA2 PSK), the connection failed. What is necessary to enable security (WPA2 PSK) and still use the Netgear USB interface? On page 201 the author demonstrates that a filter is faster than the function with the same functionally. Rawr Code Clone Analysis–Part 0

Code Clone Analysis is a cool new feature in Visual Studio 11 (vNext). It analyzes all the code in your solution and attempts to identify blocks of code that are similar, and thus candidates for refactoring to eliminate the duplication. The power lies in the fact that the blocks of code don't need to be identical for Code Clone to identify them, it will report Exact, Strong, Medium and Weak matches indicating how similar the blocks of code in question are. People that know me know that I'm anal enthusiastic about both writing clean code, and taking old crappy code and making it suck less. So the possibilities for this feature have me pretty excited if it works well - and thats a big if that I'm hoping to explore over the next few blog posts. I'm going to grab the Rawr source code from CodePlex (a World Of Warcraft gear calculator engine program), run Code Clone Analysis against it, then go through the results one-by-one and refactor where appropriate blogging along the way. My goals with this blog series are twofold: Evaluate and demonstrate Code Clone Analysis Provide some concrete examples of refactoring code to eliminate duplication and improve the code-base Here are the initial results: Code Clone Analysis has found: 129 Exact Matches 201 Strong Matches 300 Medium Matches 193 Weak Matches Also indicated is that there was a total of 45,181 potentially duplicated lines of code that could be eliminated through refactoring. Considering the entire solution only has 109,763 lines of code, if true, the duplicates lines of code number is pretty significant. In the next post we’ll start examining some of the individual results and determine if they really do indicate a potential refactoring.

I have Micromax 3G modem, and i inserted it in the USB port, but it is not being detected by Ubuntu 12.04, that i'm using from a Live USB. I tried creating a mobile internet connection, however, eventhough i created it, there is no option to connect. I had previously used 11.10 Ubuntu, and it had automatically detected the datastick modem and asked me to create a connection.
