• A Lot of WordPress wp-cron.php in Memory

  My client is hosting many WordPress blogs. I checked system load with "ps -ef | grep -i php" (because the server is hosting domains for clients using SuPHP and cpanel) and I see many of the blogs have wp-cron.php in memory, sometimes several of the same domain running several copies of wp-cron.php. Is this wp-cron.php loaded so much a normal thing with WordPress? Or is it a misconfiguration?

• apache mix name and ip based virtual hosts and ssl

  Hi Everyone I'm trying to configure apache 2.2 so that I can use two IPs. One for name based virtual hosts which should all use the same ssl-key and the other one for just one ip based host which should be using an other ssl-key. But it seems that when ever I get either the ip based or name based host to work the other one breaks. Can someone tell me how to do this on a debian system or at least point me in the right direction? Thanks

• Can you run Android 2.2 Froyo or 2.3 Gingerbread in a VM?

  I came across a how-to guide for running Android 1.7 in a virtual machine (VirtualBox), but 1.7 is old. I haven't been able to find a Android 2.2 or 2.3 image anywhere, does anyone have any ideas on how to virtualize newer Android OS's? Preferably a free virtualization solution like VirtualBox. • Apache 2.2 used to provide access to SVN consumes a lot of memory

Works fine except that over a couple of weeks the httpd process inflates and starts consuming something like 1.5 gigabytes of virtual memory. All operations with the repository become very slow. What to tweak to prevent httpd from cosuming so many resources?

  I have a virtual machine with an internal IP address and a running mailserver with IMAP/POP3/SMTP. Everything works fine except: When I do an SSH tunnel to the guest server and want to connect to the mailserver with mail.*. then it does not work. There is a connection timeout. But If i connect to the internal IP 192.168..* then it works. So what can I do to enable the access from the domain name to the virtual machine with SSH tunneling?

• iMac memory limit

  I have an iMac that was from the first generation of aluminum iMacs. The reported model is "iMac 7,1". This iMac's manual says I can put 2 2GB modules, but when this manual was made we don't have modules with more than 2GB and also we had Leopard then, that I suppose can handle less memory than Snow leopard. Today we have 4GB modules, so can I put two 4GB modules and make it 8GB? thanks.

• Switching from virtual console to X disables keyboard

  Every time I switch to a virtual console and back to X.org (1.5.3) the keyboard is disabled. The only way to get the keyboard back is to restart the X server. There is no message in the system logs. How can I fix this?

  I received a out of memory error SQL Error: 0, SQLState: 53200 from postgres while trying to upload a 10MB file into a single row with a column of blob-type bytea. Which configuration parameters should be changed to allow inserts of this size, or should this work out of the box without modifications? Is there an option like in informix-db to create so called blob-spaces?

I am working on a setup where OpenVZ machines shall boot the same (read-only) disk image, so I can not configure them individually in the file system. Another help, I used a code below to drop my memory caches in every hour. 0 * * * * /root/clearcache.sh #!/bin/sh sync; echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches But 1st 15 in every hour my server remain so slow after cleaning the caches. My sites do not load during every hour in 1st 15 minutes. In another way if I restart my server then also caches are removed. So I decided to restart my server in every 2 days to drop my caches. Will it be helpful to restart? Or is there any other way to drop my memory caches that will not down my server?

  I've got Win2008 R2 64bit installed on Dell R410 server with 8GB of RAM. Dell Open Manage shows 8GB total and 4GB available for use, In Windows Control Panel, System i see 64bit and 8GB of RAM while in Windows Task Manager at Performance tab there is 4GB of memory available. Dell support has made some checks and told me that if BIOS shows 8Gb of RAM and indeed BIOS does then it's operational system issue. Tried to search online for resolution but none found.   I installed a SSD disk in my computer and installed Windows 7 in it. I disabled defragmentation on the disk. Now when I try to partition my other disk I'm getting an error Virtual Disk Manager The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. Well, I'm not willing to enable defragmentation because it makes the lifespan of the SSD shorter. Solutions? Thanks

• HP ML150 G6 upgrading RAM/CPU beyond specs?

  I am being told that some limits on some HP servers can be crossed. Do any of you have any experience with that? A ML150/G6 is limited to 48GB RAM but I have been talking to a German company that guaranties me that this server will be able to be upgraded to 384GB RAM (using 32GB memory modules and 2 CPUs) http://www.compuram.de/en/memory,HP+%28-Compaq%29,Server,Proliant,ML150+G6.htm Can this really be true? The server that I have is using E5504 CPUs but will I be able to upgrade to any CPU that is using a LGA1366 socket? All from a low wattage L5640 all the way to the 6 core, high wattage versions like an X5650? (If cooling and power is adequate ofcause). • Commit charge peak higher than system limit

  We are seeing some very strange behaviour on our servers and google didn't turn up anything usefull, so I'm tossing it out here. A standard server is configured with 4GB Ram, 2 4GB pagefiles and running windows server 2003. The servers are running 50-120 vb6/.net applications which normally consume no more than 100mb of memory, but will occasionally run up to 300 mb. The issue with a single process spending way too much memory is being traced down somewhere else, but the thing that is baffling us is that the reported peak charge is vastly higher than what we have available. As the image above shows, we are getting reported peaks that are way higher than what the system is actually capable of delivering. This number has been seen as high as 29GB, which makes no sense at all for a system with a limit of 12GB. Does anyone have an idea what is going on?

  I'm trying to setup multiple virtual interfaces with VLAN's on a single NIC. I'm running Debian Squeeze. Currently this is my /etc/netowrk/interfaces auto eth0.10 iface eth0.10 inet dhcp This gives me a working connection, however I'm not sure how to configure several like these on a single NIC so I can use multiple external IP's. I have tried aliasing the VLAN's like so: iface eth0.10:1 But that was not successful and it said failed to bring up interface. And suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

• Virtualizing Firewalls/UTM

  So Sophos UTM (Astaro Gateway UTM) can be virtualized in Hyper-V, VMWare, vSphere etc. Now I'm new to virtualization, so am wondering how the networking would be configured in this situation. Imagine the following (a very simple setup). A Zyxel router acting as the default gateway, standard ADSL line. This is connected directly via Ethernet to my VHost, Hyper-V in my case. Now I assume I need two virtual network adapters, one which is the "External" interface to the firewall, and the other being the "Internal" interface. But where does my switch go, since I have 5 machines (or X number of machines). Where is the switch connected, to the internal interface on the VHost? What default gateway do my clients use etc? How would the routing work if these two interfaces weren't bridged since they are virtual networks anyway. I'm a little confused! Any advice is much appreciated! Cheers
